They will put a chip in him and play the music to "Electric Slide", or Goo Goo Dolls' "So why don't you slide...". and like the Manchurian candidate, he will slide on a dime :)

I actually love this idea. Play it loud. And play in twice in a row. Once to remind AR to slide, and the second to remind AD about how the first round of the draft went for him.

Double motivation. And I really want to see AD playing with a chip on his shoulder this season. All out, every snap!

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this update! I am embarrassed to admit that I completely forgot the whole turf replacement debacle ever happened. This is great news though.

That said, I have no real opinion on the topic one way or the other, so I defer to the opinions of the players and coaches rather than the suits. The players are the ones putting their health on the line. The science behind it always makes sense, but I still believe there to be too many theories on the topic rather than concrete facts. Whatever the consensus is among the players is what I would like to see happen.

I played on one of the first iterations of turf in HS back in ‘06. The first version that had the rubber pellets, not actual astro turf lol. I liked it because it felt flashy at the time. I preferred it to natural turf. That said, our “natural turf” practice field was comprised of a lot of dirt and rocks, not the lush NFL natural fields. So I was biased. Not to mention the much lower velocity, intensity, and impact at the HS level compared to the NFL lol.

  3. What a draft so far! I just got home from a sales appointment for work and started catching up on all of this madness.

What a draft so far! Loving the first and second picks. Our team got better today. No doubt about that.

I don’t know anything about this Gonclave guy, but I agree with other posters that you can never stock up enough on OL depth/future potential starters. Looking forward to reading up on him.

Most importantly, I am so gosh darn proud of this forum. This is one of the best draft threads I think we have ever had on here. I had my reservations/ concerns after the first few weeks of free agency. But this has been amazing to catch up on. Keep being awesome, folks!

Can’t wait for the season to start! Go ‘Shoe!

The players union needs to step it up. I remember Eric Dickerson talked about this on Speak for Yourself a few years ago after the new CBA was ratified. The current players didn't want to expand the benefits for the retirees. Eric Dickerson was trying to get them to understand by taking care of the retirees, they'd be taking care of themselves in the future. He was upset because a lot of former players he played with are struggling mentally.

This is the first I have heard of that; however, I haven’t actively been looking for any content on this topic.

If true, that seems like a very shortsighted approach for the players to take…

Seems the confirmation I have seen, has been the tweet from the Illinois coach

Hopefully untrue, but seeming like it very well could be.

Unfortunately, it seems that this is accurate. The TMZ article has a quote from one of Vontae’s personal friend’s facebook post.

Darius Butler talking about it now. He's crushed and is struggling getting through it. Sounds like he received confirmation via some close friends/family.

Definitely sounds like Vontae was struggling a bit based on some of the comments.

I would like to see the NFL ramp up additional supports for current and former players. Kicking the stigma is good, but it’s going to take a much more intentional and targeted effort to curb some of these emerging trends with mental wellness.

They just talked about it a bit on Pat's show.

So sad to hear. Between how he retired, what we saw of him via Hard Knocks, I imagine this is unfortunately mental health related. He always struck me as a guy that was dealing with some demons and I hope he's at peace.

This is exactly what I am most afraid of.

That's sad to hear. He played for 9 years & didn't get a chance to enjoy 9 years of retirement.

honestly, I’m pretty sure this is the exact point that is making this so difficult for me to process. I’m very curious to hear more of the details once everything comes out. 35 is just way too young…

I think you posted a legit source.  TV stations don’t post stories like that as an April fools joke.

Agreed. I’m seeing a couple of other outlets like CBS repost that original article about the death investigation. It sounds legitimate.

    I’m pretty bummed out…

  10. Mods, feel free to delete or merge if this has already been posted.

I came across a few posts on Twitter suggesting that Vontae Davis passed away at age 35. However, it is April 1, and I have yet to find any sort of verified source for this. I’m hoping this is a bad prank in poor taste, but my gut is telling me otherwise.

Has anybody come across any other sources for this news? If this is true, it is so tragic. Vontae had his challenges in life, but by all accounts he was a pretty good guy. I have always been biased, since I had loved him when he played for university of Illinois as well.

Below, I will link the article I came across.

I think you're dodging the question, but fine. Ebukam, Kelly, Stewart, for Justin Jefferson. Put it this way -- would the Vikings accept that trade offer?

If we offered those three guys, plus two firsts, the Vikings would say 'we don't want those players, so throw in another high draft pick, and then we'll seriously consider it but probably still tell you no after a couple hours.'

My team building philosophy is get the QB, support the QB with high value positional players, fill out the rest of the roster however you can. If it costs you a few Ebukams and Kellys, so be it.

And you're not seriously asking about a WR's playoff record, right? (Especially not a WR with four years in the league...) What was Larry Fitzgerald's playoff record before 2008? Be serious, please.

Wow, I didn’t realize how closely we were aligned from a team building standpoint. Can’t say I’m surprised. Couldn’t agree more.

For me, I just want to see AR play the whole season. Get him weapons in the draft. Let the offense jell for a year and see what we have. If the offense shows promising development this season, allow them to build continuity for 2025, and throw the kitchen sink at the defense with FA mercenaries if we need to.

That said, still hoping we plug a few more holes in the secondary before the draft.

  12. I’m certainly of the camp that it is better to do things right rather than rushed. Perhaps they are just ironing out all the details of a potential deal with Sneed.

That said, there has been way too much media attention and way too many conflicting reports. At this point, I’m going to have to accept that this is likely an Occam‘s razor situation. My interpretation is that Ballard has drawn his line in the sand, and he’s standing firm. More likely than not at this point that a deal isn’t getting done. I will be the first person to tell you that I hope I’m wrong. But this is how I’m reading the tea leaves today.

I am 56. We got a very late start on becoming parents with an 8 and 10 year old. But it is glorious that we can go to bed the same time as our kids at 8:30.

I love that for you! My lady is a little older, and we have been together for a long time. So my 2 step kids will officially both be in college as of next fall. So I will be an empty nester by 37. Life works in very mysterious ways. And there is never a linear path through it. Best regards!

In a vacuum, yes.  But they have Bosa, a premier player in a position that's actually premier.  The other three can generally be replaced/churned fairly often.

The world we live in today, everyone in every industry is expendable. So I get your point. That said, there are certainly advantages to retaining top end talent through their prime.

At the end of the day, Buck will likely end up going down as one of my favorite Colts. I just really like the guy. I enjoy having players who I like on the squad. It enhances the whole experience of being a fan.

The older I get, the more I find myself caring less and less about the “advanced metrics” of life. Sometimes we forget that it all exists for our own enjoyment. Could we turn and churn entire rosters to keep the average age down and play moneyball every year, sure. For me, though, I like rooting for the individuals who we invest our emotions in just as much as the team as a whole.

I appreciate efficiency and I appreciate effectiveness, whether it’s a company I work for or a team I cheer for. But I refuse to lose sight of what really matters. To me, that is enjoying life and stopping to appreciate the things that make it so great.

Buckner is still under contract through this season, that takes him through his prime. So, we have him in 2024 anyway. He turns 30 this week.  If he has a good season this year, Ballard may bring him back for 2 more seasons or so is my guess?

I agree with you. Personally, he is a player I am fine riding with until the wheels fall off or he hangs it up. My point was more or less, now that the dust has settled, we definitely “won” that trade.

We still have Buck playing at a high level. San Fran now has no Buckners, no Armsteads, and no Kinlaws.
