  1. It's not the first time he's said this - it was in the Denver papers weeks ago I believe.

I certainly hope that he doesn't, but I can't blame any player for doing this. If you find yourself at 27, healthy, and with enough money to never have to work again, just how important is that next contract with some extra money but a huge risk of a declining quality of life as a tradeoff. Maybe he has other things that he wants to do with his life.

From the team's perspective it's concerning because it speaks to motivation. It's odd because when he signed it was with the knowledge that the coaches were critical of his performance and wanted him to work like mad to reinvent himself. He's done the hard work, it's certainly unusual for an athlete in that position to not want to stick around for the reward. Whatever he does, I hope he makes up his mind quickly rather than retiring in the middle of pre-season or something.

  2. I liked Sanders and Rice actually bieng able to pick and mix conferences, That was great for the game I think amd threw a monkey wrench in things instead of the same ole same ole that less and less people watched over the last few years, I think thats why this pro bowl was successful actually more then any other reason. Like you though I had trouble wrapping my head around it at first...moreso because I didn't understand how it would worked but I think it turned out really well, Just my opinions

Now I'm confused. If you knew all that, why did you reply to say that you were confused?

  3. You're starting to sound like dudeski, negative just to be negative.  I did not watch the whole game, just part of the first half, but I did tune in just to see if the changes they made helped the Pro Bowl.  From what I saw the players were trying much harder and it was a more entertaining game.  As far as who they are representing, they are representing the NFL.  Nothing wrong with that.

Then perhaps you didn't read my previous posts on the topic in which I expressed enthusiasm for the existing pro bowl when many others wanted the entire thing cancelled. The "problem" with the prior way of doing it was that players played like they wanted to get back to their mai tai on the bench. That never bothered me - it's all in fun. The NHL all star game is fun when someone wins 14-13 and the skill players make your hair stand up. I watch the pro-bowl to see the best QB's lighting it up with the best receivers, not to see bone crushing tackles. It's an exhibition for crying out loud.

Ya know, I didn't watch the Grammy's today either. Something about my not being interested in enough of the scheduled performers, and either never having heard of or actively disliking virtually all of the major award nominees. Oh, and rap sucks. Sometimes change isn't for the better, and I'm not going to apologize for saying so.

However I'm sorry if you don't appreciate my posts. I'd have a better idea about whether I should be offended if I had any idea who dudeski was. Or you for that matter.

  4. Picking sides nonsense? Im confused

Having Rice and Sanders choosing up sides as if they were standing on a school yard. Silly, confusing, and completely removing team loyalty from the event.

I've been an "AFC guy" since the merger because of the Colts, but there were Colts on both teams. Of course Luck and the coaches were with Sanders which should have made it easier, but I detest Sanders.

This was all about "what players do you like" - the new trend amongst younger fans raised with fantasy football. I just can't wrap my head around it.

And again - trivial, but I can't believe they used those uniforms. What the :cuss: was that!

On the other hand, some of the other tweeks (no kickoffs, two minute treatment each quarter) sounded fine.

  5. I'm glad to hear that they tried a little harder, but I was so turned off by the "picking sides" nonsense (not the mention one of the guys doing the picking) that I didn't bother watching any of it.

Who are they representing now, themselves? Amusing because it's different I guess, but what exactly is the point of the exercise? Combine that with the God awful uniforms, and it's pretty obvious that they were trying to appeal to a specific demographic. Perhaps fantasy football fans from Oregon or something.

I'm neither, and I'm left wondering why they couldn't get them to play harder under the old system (after the SB).

  6. I agree with this.  I seem to remember that he was battling injuries his last few seasons here and it seemed that he had lost a step.  I wasn't surprised when he wasn't resigned, but I was disappointed for him.

There was one injury on one play that shall "live in infamy". His own teammate landed on his leg - I remember it vividly.

He was still effective when he came back (aside from one out-of-character fumble which cost the Colts dearly) because he was still so good at running routes, catching the ball, and communing with Peyton - but he didn't have that special "something". He was getting up in years as well.

  7. Marvin was always a class act on and off the football field, minus the shooting.

I think that would be the only thing that would keep Marvin out.

I just keep remembering that piece that OTL did on the Marvin shooting and it was quite shocking to me.

I am not sure how it played out in the courts but other than that, he is a class act and deserves to be a HOF'er. There are plenty of worse guys in the HOF.

It never reached the courts, there wasn't sufficient evidence to bring charges. To a certain extent there is a presumption of "guilt of something" on many of our parts, but that's not really fair.

  8. not me i am rooting for the seahawks, been colts fan for 50 plus years manning did a lot of great things for the colts. but once you leave your the enemy

Yes, that was evident in the poll you started.

Yet you are "rooting for" the Seahawks. Aren't they also "the enemy".

Many Colts fans are 100% loyal to the Colts, yet in a game that the Colts aren't participating in they feel a connection to the guy who "did a lot of great things for the Colts". You must have some compelling reason for rooting for the Seahawks, which sounds a bit confusing based on your being such a devoted Colts fan.

  9. Maybe you should reread said first post. Your reading comprehension is severely lacking. Not only did I NOT single you out I didn't single out anyone else. Followed by people being "player fans" and not team fans. Plenty of colts fans root for both now. My father in law team flopped to the broncos when manning left.

I never said that you singled me out - you made a blanket declaration that I objected to. You then clarified it. End of story - aside from your juvenile attempts to belittle me. I'm neither impressed nor hurt, and you likely wouldn't enjoy it if I responded in kind, so perhaps you should just stop already.

  10. Old age bring on the hostility?

What constitute a broncos fan is one who WAS a colts fan and then BECAME a broncos fan after manning left and no longer remained a colts fan. Pretty simple.

    Hilarious. Your perspective is informative.

It's middle age actually, my post wasn't remotely hostile, and any defensiveness evident on my part is a direct result from being repeatedly labeled on here as if one has failed a loyalty test - which is precisely what your first post appeared to be doing (obnoxiously confrontational for no apparent reason in the context of this thread). If you had explained your position clearly in the first post I wouldn't have responded.

So what accounts for the hostility in your post? Immaturity?

  11. He alluded to wanting to win more rings with Andrew then they did with Peyton, and people flocked here to call him classless, and throwing Peyton under the bus.

Also any time he tweets the smallest thing someone makes a thread to dissect it.

Apparently the nice and classy things aren't as fun to talk about.

His choice of words and the timing of his comments often leave much to be desired, but having witnessed his pain upon letting Peyton go, I've never doubted what was in his heart, and I don't worry too much about what comes out of his mouth.

Now the "win now at all costs" mentality evident in the Richardson trade is another matter entirely. As someone who detested the Dickerson trade from the moment it happened, it just set off warning bells that "the old" Irsay might be back. Makes me nervous as hell.

  12. I don't see anything wrong with rooting for Peyton. Now turning into a broncos fan after he left they probably weren't colts fans in the first place. They were player "Peyton" fans.

I hope he wins the retires a Colt

So what exactly constitutes "turning into a Broncos fan". This is thrown around on this site in the form of an accusation and it's really quite infuriating.

I've been a diehard Colts fan since the late '60's. Right now I'm also rooting for Peyton. Since he plays for the Broncos, this involves rooting for the Broncos. If you have any insight into how one separates the two I would be fascinated to hear it.

  13. Besides getting injured was Marvin let go because of the shooting or whatever happened?

No, I think it had more to do with refusing to take a pay cut & Marvin already had won a SB ring so why not call it a career.

I do remember that shooting incident at his bar, but he was cleared of any wrongdoing & I seriously doubt that the INDY front office would ever dismiss a beloved Colts WR over an incident that Marvin was not responsible for.

When do we get to know of Marv made it? Also do they broadcast the ceremony?

Marv was healthy at the time of being released. It was because he didn't take the pay cut.

It's highly unlikely that the issue was related to his release because the initial incident happened in the off-season prior to his final season. The prosecutor had actually finally announced that they weren't filing charges AFTER the season, and BEFORE his release.

He was healthy, but he wasn't "quite the same". Don't know about you, but I thought that the pay cut was warranted. He would have been the perfect guy to have as a depth piece, but it would have been a mistake to pay him like a super star. One of the few vet salary decisions that the FO got right during that period.

The more serious incident occurred well after he was released, and no charges arose from that either. My "take" after reading the one in depth article that was done about him is that he might well have been technically guilty of something, but that doesn't mean that he's a criminal, a thug, a bad guy, etc. He's a wealthy man who came back to his home area and tried to make a positive contribution. He owns several businesses and is generally regarded as a welcome presence and a local hero. The adversary in his drama was a local thug who perhaps resented Marvin. He clearly was up to no good. Even if Harrison is guilty technically, it's likely more a matter of defending his territory in a very rough area which approximately 99.99999999% of wealthy athletes would have run from and never looked back. I've never seen anything which suggested a reason to me concerned with his ethics. Quite the opposite.

  14. I would assume that MetLife has a heating system under the field. It should never become a sheet of ice like the practice facility might.

It's unfortunate that the inane SB publicity stunts require the teams to arrive so early. They should be installing their game plans in their own facilities as they have every other game - without discomfort or concern about prying eyes. The Broncos would also retain more of their aerobic edge by only leaving at the last minute, and you wouldn't have to worry about players getting distracted by the ego boosting attention, families looking to enjoy the sights, or other nonsense.

I never for the life of me understand the desire to treat it as a vacation. The lowest paid guy on the team can easily afford to take his family on a vacation to New York the week AFTER the Super Bowl - just put your head down and do your job.

  15. I do find it funny listening to people try to say how they hope for snow and bad weather because that is how "real football" is meant to be played. Football I've always thought of with that crisp fall weather...but that's just me. I would hope the Super Bowl would be played so that neither team would have an advantage from the field or conditions. That is why if I had my choice it would be played in the Rose Bowl every year....but that's just me. To me you would like to see both team able to play their style of game and see which one comes out on top...and not limit one side or another because of gale force winds or rain etc. But we know life isn't fair...you just have to roll with the punches and good luck to both sides for a clean game. I hope its well played and yes I hope Peyton can finish his season off...for a guy that has been through so much and put so much hard work and effort into it...you like to see him rewarded with a great finish.

thank you, dg..its not just you

    This is the basketball season

Football originally was NEVER intended to be played in cold weather cities after Thanksgiving

....certainly not at night in February

Exactly. To me traditional "cold football weather" involves your Mom suggesting that you put on a heaver jacket "just in case" before going to the end of season high school rivalry game on Thanksgiving Day.  And you usually came home chilled to the bone - remembering the more comfortable September/October games fondly and wondering why the heck you bothered to sit outside for hours with the risk of the temperature dipping into perhaps the high 40s. "Hot chocolate please.".

The first football game - ironically only 50 miles or so from the Meadowlands - was in November. For the first 90 years it was primarily a fall college sport, and when the big bowl games developed they were at warm weather sites on New Years Day..

Yes, the pro version did emerge in the mid-west, but even up to the time of the Super Bowl the championship games  - such as the famous ice bowl - were held in December. Yes, a late December day in Green Bay is at least as cold as a February day in New Jersey, but there is only one Green Bay. The first playoff game was moved INDOORS because of weather for crying out loud. Some teams in the region have actually built these crazy things called "domes".

The push to early January only started in the 70's because of more teams getting into the playoffs. I have great difficulty regarding something that started when I was a teenager as an ancient age old tradition, and the entire point of the conversation is that the push away from a warm weather or domed Super Bowl is only happening NOW. This is a spectator sport. I'm a spectator, and I'd rather be home in front of my television thank you very much. There is nothing "real" or traditional about a mass market form of entertainment taking place in uncomfortable temperatures. Winter sports are "traditionally" played indoors.

  16. Deep South accents?

    German accents?

    What is that then?

    :)

We setup a fake aura to deter visitors. In actuality, everyone here is trained as a Shakespearean actor starting in nursery school and speak as such. Visitors might want to consider taking a class in middle English if they plan on succeeding in ordering any food.

  17. the 1st 10-day forecast for Feb. 2 in NY

    between 25 and 35....light snow/rain mix at times........ugly..but playable

    //The worry was blizzard conditions...and sub-zero pain....like we're having

There's a gale warning in East Rutherford right now.

We had pretty darn close to a blizzard on Tuesday, followed by a serious temperature dip that continues. There is a "snow squall" predicted for tomorrow, and another storm next week. Basically as I'm sure you know artic weather has once again dipped down from the north affecting huge areas of the country. The HIGH four days before the game will include a real feel of 7%.

In other words, we've been having an unseasonably cold winter, but they are forecasting that it will improve more or less just in time for the game. If that's accurate, then they'll have gotten lucky, but it's too early to have any confidence that they are correct. But either way it won't be soon enough to save out-of-town visitors from being uncomfortable for most of the preliminary nonsense the week before the game.

Why anyone would pay through the nose for the chance to stroll around outdoors here is beyond me. I'd go to lengths to AVOID doing exactly that. The entire concept remains profoundly stupid in my opinion and I hope they learn their lesson. I just don't want it to affect the Broncos adversely. If weather looks bad for the game, they had better delay it rather than move it up.

  18. Wind is the thing you've really got to look out for...

The Pats-Broncos game in November was played in really windy conditions (what with Belichick opting to kick in OT... giving up possession to have the wind advantage, pretty big deal). That was probably Manning's worst statistical game of the season. Not knocking him, but those super-accurate-but-slightly-wobbly passes don't cut through the wind all that well.

The AFCCG was 60 degrees and a bluebird day, and he looked like 2004 Manning.

If I had a rooting interest for the Broncos I wouldn't be too concerned about cold, or even a little snow. But I'd be concerned if it's windy.

Absolutely, but Peyton started the year looking vastly stronger than last year as he'd worked on strength training and technique to throw with his entire body - like a smart pitcher. His passer rating through the first five games was something like 130. The degradation that you witnessed only came into play when his ankles got injured in game six against the Jags. It significantly impacted the losses to both the Patriots and the Colts at a minimum.

As an aside, you can't ignore age as a factor regardless. He wasn't quite right in their other loss - to the Chargers on a Thursday. Hardly a surprise considering the 59 pass attempts 4 days earlier and their reliance on preparation. He hadn't even been PRACTICING until Thursdays, that week they played a game.

He's still listed on the injury report for his ankles, but has looked a LOT better in recent weeks. In fact the forecast for the Charger playoff game included wind gusts in the 20's - the only difference being that they were across the field instead of end zone to end zone, and perhaps the sustained wind speed was lower. . I had significant trepidation prior to the game, but from the first series it was clear that it wasn't having a material impact.

So while you are correct, and for that and other reasons strong wind will favor the Seahawks, it may not have the impact that many expect. Lobs downfield may well be so inaccurate as to be useless for either QB, but if his ankles (and protection) are good enough for him to be able to step into his throws, most of their arsenal should still be there.

  19. If I recall correctly, the NFL said they may move the game to Saturday or Monday if the weather is really bad.  So far, it doesn't look like that would happen.  I'm hoping for a game where the elements don't impact the game.  Let both teams play to their potential

Yes,  I saw could be as early as Friday, or as late as Monday depending on the forecast......   Geez Louise..

I hope,  for the sake of everyone who has plane reservations, and Hotel reservations,  time off work, etc....  that it is played on Sunday as planned.     What a flippin' mess for everyone involved if it's not.

Just the act of moving the game to an earlier day would constitute the elements impacting the game. Peyton is obviously all about preparation, so a deviation in the schedule would likely favor the Seahawks. Friday? They'll still be practicing on Friday!

  20. Did he actually say that? I didn't hear it and if he did does that make him like that Sherman guy just wondering I think it's all right to get lose once in awhile no matter who you are...

    Yes he said it.

Peyton: Quietly endured a cacophony of "experts" and fans espousing on his perceived failings for years, long frustrating his fans with political correct answers when standing up for himself would have been welcome. He finally told "them" (no individuals specified) off - in response to a specific interview question - using an amusingly archaic slang expression that wouldn't be out of place coming from a 1950's housewife. It was appropriate, it was welcome, it was funny.

Sherman: Invented a victim sensibility out of whole cloth to motivate himself, and then screamed about his "victory" over same in a startling, rude, and barely intelligible manner in response to a generic and unrelated question. He later expanded his verbal assault to include belittling comments about a specific defeated player. I like Sherman and think he's a bright guy, but his entire performance was inappropriate, rude, and classless.

In other words, NO, it doesn't "make him like that Sherman guy", although I agree that it's nice when players actually say something honest occasionally. Many interviews are dull and pointless.

And I just don't get why more people just don't relies this just would rather get nasty about it?? Not all but a lot. But then again everybody's got a right to their opinion and i can respect that??

Everyone does "get it", they just don't have such a chip on their shoulder about it that they feel the need to make the occasional somewhat unpleasant comment of their own as a precautionary remedy. Two wrongs don't make a right, and if I can listen to your opinions without suffering permanent damage to my psyche, than perhaps you'll make it through Peyton winning the Super Bowl unscathed.
