  1. Imo the colts have plenty of time to get a QB, peyton will be back next season.. another QB is gonna be in the spotlight as always,

Ask the Broncos about that...ask the Dolphins about that....how many years has it been since Elway...since Marino.

When Manning returns, the Colts will go back to drafting at the bottom of the round...good luck hoping another "Rodgers" drops in the draft.

This opportunity is rare;a team with a HOF'er is rarely terrible enough to get the top draft choice. It reminds me of when David Robinson was out for a season with an injury and the Spurs (like the Colts) played like crap and got the first draft choice.....they drafted Tim Duncan and remained a successful franchise long after Robinson retired

  2. If you think Manning is a great QB now, wait until Andrew Luck is standing on the side-line.

Although it will be obvious that Luck will remain on the sideline until Manning retires in 2-3 years. There’s nothing that causes a great player to sharpen his skills more than a little” friendly” competition. Which means there will unlikely be any more 4-int/2-pick-6 games in Manning’s future.

  3. No we haven't been there/done that. He was a rookie last year who showed good progress at the end of the season. He also put on a lot of weight that didn't seem to slow him down in the preseason, so, saying been there/done that is pretty silly.

I do agree with you, however, on Ogbu I liked what I saw from him. As much as I hate to say it, it's probably only a matter of time until we do get to see what he can do, given our history with injuries.

Unfortunately Matthews (like too many Colts DT's) seems to play on skates and when the ball is snapped, he goes backwards.

Obgu, although not getting a lot of push up the middle, was hard to push off the line; even when double teamed, he was like a fire-hydrant. He has a very high motor but did seem to get tired quickly and start playing like the average Colts DT. I wondered if it was conditioning or if he was trying too hard to impress the coaches and just needs to pace himself.

The problem is he was playing against 3rd and 4th stringers during the preseason; I was hoping he would get some time against better competition but he never did. He might get in there and play like a scrub; if that happened, couldn't he simply be put back on the practice squad?

  4. Isn't Josh Thomas still available?? They could move him inside to DT??

At 6'5", 271, he might be a viable sub for Foster. He was awful as an end (not bad against the run though). Did he even play in 2010?

    I was kidding :sarcasm:

  5. copied and pasted from another thread:

I didn't get goose pimples (like many Colts fans) over the way the defense played against the Steelers.

The Colts defense has a reputation of showing up for a game or 2(especially if they have been embarrassed or are getting hammered by the media) before returning to their regular inept selves.

The run defense is allowing 3.3 yds/rush...8th best in the NFL!!.... Can they sustain this quality of play for more than 1 or 2 weeks???.... That is the question

  6. Are we a defense teams worry about?

One of these things is not like the others

    Pittsburgh Steeler Defense

    Tennessee Titan Defense

    Baltimore Raven Defense

    Indianapolis Colts Defense

  7. I think we did. Even though last year our D would be good one week and bad again the next....but I dont feel that being the case this year.

That is the major concern and is why I didn't get goose pimples (like many Colts fans) over the way the defense played against the Steelers.

The Colts defense has a reputation of showing up for a game or 2(especially if they have been embarrassed or are getting hammered by the media) before returning to their regular inept selves.

  8. In your very strange opinion. This is largely the same squad that went to the Super Bowl before being decimated by injuries last year. Actually I like this roster better. I would have expected them to get at least 12 wins this year and make another run at the Championship.

Are you telling me that you don't think they could be 2-0 this year with Peyton?

The Colts had the ball on the Houston 42 on their first drive but came away with nothing thanks to Collins. Collins than handed Houston two TDs with fumbles. At 17-0 early in the second quarter with Collins at QB - the game was over. Not much after that is really relevant. It would have been more like 3-3 at the worst at that point with Peyton under center, and based on all these years of watching this team I would fully expect them to win. The only wild-card is the special teams which keeps putting the Colts in harms way.

The Browns game isn't even a question. The Colts would have been up by a substantial amount at the start of the fourth just by virtue of Peyton excelling in the red zone. The Colts scored on a ridiculous % of their red zone possessions last year despite the injuries. Instead of collapsing in the 4th qtr Peyton would have put them away. I have no doubt in my mind that the game wouldn't have even been close.

With Peyton all we would be talking about now is how we seem to be hitting Pittsburg at a vulnerable time on our way to another dominant season.

Another fan who would rather just ignore the Colts' many blaring weaknesses and who has the attitude: " don't worry, Peyton will save the day  "

  9. Simple solution; when a player has an injury resulting in clock stoppage, the team has three options:

    1- call a time-out

2- take a "delay of game" penalty

3- ask the referee for an "official(injury) time-out"

If the coach wants the official to call time-out, the injured player can't return to the field for a specified amout of time (eg. one series, two series, 7 minutes of game time, 10 minutes of game time)

This would take the onus of determining if a player is "faking" out of the hands of the refs because all of the "injured" players (whether they are faking or not) are treated the same.

  10. The blame falls completely at the feet of owner Jim Irsay, president Bill Polian and general manager Chris Polian not only for failing to find a capable backup behind Manning, but also for failing to use the draft and free agency to build a talented team around Manning.

Don't blame the coach for not turning lemons into lemonade

  11. Bill Polian- Vice Chairman; Chris Polian- GM and VP; Dennis Polian-Director of football administration

What type of atmosphere must there be in the FO when you see long-time employees being fired(Powers) to give positions to Polians? Do others in the front office fear dissention or offering opinions that differ from that of a Polian?

If I worked in the FO and I saw executive positions being given to the boss’s relatives, I would become an instant “yes man”.

“…what, you want to start Hughes….Good idea”

“ …you want to move Linchenbach to center…that’s what I was thinking”

Is nepotism in the FO good for the Colts? :hmm:

  12. General comment regarding the thread I sincerely doubt if this guy is being brought in to start next week. That is not likely or feasible. It may indicate Diem moving back to RT and Pollack back at RG and they are bringing someone in who may be able to play both RG and LG as a backup. I wonder why they just didn't bring Tepper up from the PS though?

Underachieving, cut by multiple teams, hoping to get signed to a practice squad...............starting for the Colts.

    Sounds about right :sigh:

  13. We have a" team built to play defense with a lead". Unless we get the opening kickoff, that will be tough.

Peyton has made our OL "good enough". Collins isn't "built" that way.

Obviously, the Colts defense is much more effective when the Colts have a lead but it was NOT "built to play with a lead". No GM intentionally builds a one dimensional defense that only plays well if their offense can get a large enough lead to make the opposing team's offense 1-dimensional.

I'm sure Polian has been trying (but unfortunately, failing) to build a defense that can perform well regardless of the score

  14. Its a combination of both, plus the scheme. Our CB's other than Powers are simply not very good and the fact that they are coached to play so far off the reciever don't help. The DT's for whatever reason can not shed their block consistantly and are driven around by the opposing o-line at will. The media always says our DT's are undersized, but Mookie and Moala are both over 300lbs and should not be so easily handled. It has to be more of a coaching thing IMO. Chicago plays the same scheme, their DT's are no bigger than ours and yet they dominate. IMO our coaching on defense simply isn't very good, not to mention they got stuck with the wrong personel on the d-line many times yesterday. Foster should not be playing on running downs and IMO should never play DT to begin with. I've seen this defense be really good just to turn around and be absolutely horrible the next week. That has to come down to preparation and coaching.

When they drafted Nevis and brought in Harris, I thought we were finally seeing the last of Foster at DT (maybe a move to DE?)...but no, he's playing more than ever at DT

  15. Okay....I've got a problem with some of you calling out the front office on the DT issue and our inability to stop the run.

    1. The needs were addressed. Anderson has not been known for his ability to rush the passer, but he has been known for being strong against the run. Brayton, while slightly less so, is in much the same boat. Both were first round picks, not that that has anything to do with it. Nevis, a guy we have all loved, and who people have been touting as the second coming of Sapp, was drafted in the third. We kept the fan favorite Mookie and got rid of the fan whipping boy Muir. Plus the improvement of Moala has been noticable to anyone paying attention. Anyone bashing our perceived 'lack of effort' in improving the run defense is just looking at the numbers and saying 'omg We suck!!!!'

I really don't understand why all the love for Mookie...majority of the time he's a human shopping cart..if he was on any other NFL team, he would have been cut a long time ago.

    shopping cart=always getting pushed around

  16. The Colts Defense is built to excel when we are playing with a lead.

Can we all agree to stop using this phrase.

The Colts' defense plays best when the Colts have the lead but, they were not" built to play with a lead".

No GM that wants to keep his job would purposely build a defense that is one dimensional and is only successful if their offense can put up enough points to make the opposing offense one dimensional...I'm sure Polian has been trying to build a defense that can excel regardless of the score.
