  1. I think Andrew Luck is miles ahead of Alex Smith already, and I think that was the case before he was drafted. Alex Smith came out of a spread offense at Utah, while Luck was running a pro style offense under a former pro quarterback. As a matter of fact, Harbaugh had Luck teaching the offense to Smith during the lockout. Even Urban Meyer doubted that Alex Smith would have any success unless he was completely comfortable in an offense. The 49ers made several mistakes while trying to develop Smith, including changing the coaching staff more than they should have. But he wasn't the same kind of player or leader that Luck has proven to be.

The current system is deficient, absolutely, and while I'm not saying we necessarily need a WCO disciple, that is what Luck ran at Stanford, so it's not necessarily learning a new offense. It's going back to something he had already been a student of, and quite successfully.

Luck learned a completely new system is a short period of time, while also trying to get acclimated to playing in a league that's far more talented than the Pac division he earned his draft stock in. Everyone who's coached him has said he has a nearly photographic memory. During camp, the coaches allowed the defense to send all kinds of blitzes at him, and he had a bad day. Then he and Arians went in and dissected the film. They came out for another session, and he picked the same blitzes apart. He spent three weeks with Tom Moore before the draft, and Moore said he has "instant recall." He said "you'll never have to worry about anything."

Luck is special, I think. Well ahead of Alex Smith, both athletically and from a mental standpoint, and tougher mentally as well. I do think continuity would be important, but like I said, there are flaws inherent in Arians' offense that I wouldn't mind seeing walk out of the door with him. And it's nothing against Arians; he's been great for us and for Luck, from a mentor standpoint and as a stand-in head coach. But I'm not going to cry if he leaves, because I don't really like his play calling.

Ladies and Gentleman..THIS is how you post!

  2. do you think he will be on the playoff roster. i heard to expect some surprises as far as the playoff roster is concerned. could someone post the playoff roster on this board, i would appreciate it. (when it hits the wire which i don't believe they have to post till midnight)

    where'd you hear that?

  3. Only name I know for sure been seriously discussed @ Chargers Park to this point is Bruce Arians ... I am told Ken Whisenhunt is interested.

Welp..that's all she wrote..nice working with you BA..

Something to consider:  should he come and have success with Luck, he will certainly get another head coaching job.  So, if you do hire him, he might not be here long.

Same can be said about any other coordinator we bring in...the way the NFL is nowadays teams are looking for fresh faces and new blood to lead their franchise..

  4. Now that I think about it, I think there are teams that will want to talk to Whisenhunt about their head coaching job. He'd be a great fit with the Bears or the Chargers.

you have a point..but the reason those teams fired their coaches because they didn't make the playoffs...the Cardinals haven't made the playoffs in 3 seasons..I can see the Bears or Chargers bringing in someone like Bruce Arians before they bring in Wisenhunt..

  5. too many vacancies are opening up in the NFL for BA to not get a shot..if that happens Pagano needs to have  this guy on speed dial..his firing was one of the few that I did not agree with today..He'll fit here perfectly imo..

  6. Ken Wisenhunt was just fired. Now, that is a name I would be happy for OC if we brought him in assuming Arians leaves for an HC job.

came here to say this as soon as I saw his name on the wire..I think that was a bogus firing..the guy had no Qbs to work with at all..some teams around the league are overreacting a bit..all these vacancies that are opening up increases the likelihood that BA will for sure get a chance at a head coaching gig whether we like it or not..

  7. They cut the  cameras to the Texans sideline when they knew the game was over? Owen Daniels looked like he was over there re-evaluating his life. Somebody get these guys on suicide watch :funny:

I will be forever indebted to whoever can find a gif of this
