  1. Now, we get to follow up the GOAT QB with what appears to be an elite QB. Not many, if any, NFL teams have had that luxury. I'm a Colts fan, Irsay fan, and a HUGE Andrew Luck fan. Can't wait to watch this young team develop under the incredible ownership and promising new GM/HC we have. Tough, but great time to be an Indy Colts fan.

    Great post.

  2. I'm personally not looking forward to the next game with them now that Manning is gone, I still hate everything NE but it no longer has that special feel to it. For me even if Luck beats them 3 times in a row it still won't be as sweet as a Peyton-led colts win

Oh I completely disagree. In my mind Manning had long since won the who is the greatest QB argument. Only some ESPN tools and the upper half of New England still hold to Brady. And We (Colts) had pretty much IMO gotten over any hump of inferiority. Now it is just two championship teams trading blows. Add Luck into that mix and God forbid he beats Brady the first crack at the bat, we'll all be dancing in the streets...and if he loses, we'll all default to wanting to get right back on top.

It might not be the same but I dont think it necessarily has to diminish at all.

  3. Okay, personal rant on...

I purposefully stayed away from the board yesterday. I took the day off from work and sulked. Watched the press conferences and all of the rigamorole surrounding Manning's departure. And I came away with one major conclusion:

As fans, If we are to support the continuation of success, if we are to support the continuation of the standards that Irsay, Polian, Dungy and Manning set down vis-a-vis a Championship calibre organization, then we have to give Andrew Luck a lot of latitude these first two seasons.

Colts fans are acclimated to our QB being the greatest QB in the history of the game. And with that comes some instinctive expectations with regards to game play, decision making, execution and ultimately victories. But Andrew Luck has nothing to do with our muscle memory, our atmosphere or expectations. He is not Peyton Manning. He is not going to do what Manning did. He may exceed it (as I hope) or he may not. But he is not Peyton Manning.

IMHO He deserves a clean slate. No Manningesque expectations from us as "fans". All cheers. All encouragement (because you know the Krapitz' of the World are gonna open fire at the first loss. Especially if we do not fly out the gate with 10 wins). But we're not Dolphins fans. We're not Raiders fans. We're Colts fans. We've endured some of the worst football teams in the history of the league. So let's stay humble. Let's give this kid all of the support and latitude he needs (from the fans) in these first few years to be succesful. If we want to have the next 14 years look anything like the previous 14, then we have to throw everything Manning out the window (for now), focus on Andrew Luck's team and roll with him.

    ...rant off.

  4. How about the 2013 1st Rd pick? I didn't read anything that said it had to be this year's 1st Rd pick. Keeping everything under the salary cap is the biggest issue. If Peyton isn't resigned that gives us $6.5M this year and $18M next year and etc, etc. Restructure Freeney and that gives us addt'l Millions.

I downloaded the current CBA and it says the rules regarding draft picks were carried over from the previous CBA. I could not find the previous deal. Nevertheless it appears to be a concensus opinion that the gaining team loses the pick from the draft immediately following offseason FA period.

Example: Panthers CB Ricky Manning was a restricted free agent in the 2006 offseason. Based on the tender placed on Manning by the Panthers, the team would receive a third-round pick in the draft if Manning signed with another team. On April 21, the Bears signed Manning to an offer sheet. The Panthers announced on April 24 that they would not match. Manning became a member of the Bears and the Panthers received a third-round draft choice in the same 2006 offseason from Chicago.

  5. Per PFT: "Greg Aiello confirms, all business for the current week must be transacted by 4:00 p.m. ET on Friday, March 9. Thus, if Manning is still on the roster as of 4:01 p.m. ET on Friday, March 9, there’s no way the Colts can cut him before Monday morning. So, at the very latest, (Irsay) should dump Peyton on Friday afternoon, if the plan is to cut him."

  6. I reckon I grew to appreciate Peyton Manning more. I have been (and still would be) critical of his "anxiety" during games, his abandoning the run and his allowing opposing Defensive Coordinators to passive-aggressively dictate to him who he would throw to (Clark and Collie) when I have felt that we had the weapons to do whatever we wanted.

But one thing is for sure...without him, we would not have half the success we've had this previous decade.

  7. Per Michael David Smith at PFT - "...any team can sign Wallace to an offer sheet, and if the cap-strapped Steelers don’t match the offer, Wallace will cost only one first-round draft pick. Acquiring a 25-year-old who’s arguably the best deep threat in the NFL for a first-round draft pick isn’t a bad deal at all, especially if there’s a playoff contender that believes a big-play receiver is just the thing they need to win the Super Bowl."

...just throwing it out there. With the possibility of losing Reggie and the Waiter (one or both) could Mike Wallace be a FA option?

  8. Well, IMO it is obviously Peyton (not sure how ANYONE familiar with the Colts doesn't instantly recognize Peyton's mannerisms/body-language). And it appears to be Duke's practice field.

Seeing this video is very encouraging. I'm liking the scenario where a rested and ticked off Manning returns. And I am really going to enjoy watching Florio, Shefter, Mortenson, King and "Noodle Arm" backtrack from their "Manning is gone" mantra.

  9. Sadly, I have resolved that Kravitz (Noodle Arm) really stepped in it overreaching on the Manning story. And as a result cannot be considered a source of information that isn't massaged, manipulated or just plain wrong. Guys like Phil and Chappell give us the raw information. But Noodle Arm processes everything through his obviously flawed prism before he spits it out. I know that sometimes big fish talk to him (Jimmy Israel, Manning), but unfortunately he rarely conveys the real story. For me he rates with Len Pastabelli or whatever his name was. I just don't read his stuff anymore.

  10. I'll be honest...it does not matter to me right now. One thing I rest comfortably in knowing is that (when it comes to defensive linemen) neither Bill, Chris Polian or Tony Dungy will be making the decision. Gone are the days of undersized, underwhelming, unproductive DTs...and few things will ever make me happier vis-a-vis Colts defense. Grigs has a solid track record as an evaluator and Pagano is my kind of guy defensively. I am pleased they will be pulling the trigger this go'round. I'm comfortable with where we're at and I give them two annual drafts before I consider coming off of that.

  11. Another "sources say" and "unaffilated with Manning" article that really doesn't glean any new information... and the "Saturday tells NFL Network" makes me laugh.. Saturday said that live while broadcasting for the combine! There's no scoop here for the BSHerald.

Amen. Just an all around poorly written fluff piece that manages to get "Brady" inserted into the Manning conversation.

  12. So if we did happen to draft Poe AND Ta'amu.... and get a starting OG out of this draft in addition to Luck all in the first 4 rounds..... that would be the start of a very good draft.

If so, that could be on its way to becoming the best draft in the history of the franchise.
