    thought this was pretty cool.

Has some other guys other than Anthony Richardson.

I thought it was a very well-done AD that delivers some wholesomeness and promotes the brand in a positive way.

I joked with some friends that I thought it was funny that AR got the message from Brady and Hendon got the message from Peyton. Brady's more involved with our new Colts then Peyton has been LOL. On a serious note, I know Brady is one of ARs favorite players and someone he has openly admired, so this is definitely not a knock on Peyton <3.

Seems local media is going down the tubes. No more keefer and holder didn’t tweet anything from today.  Hopefully it gets better for TC.

Keefer was promoted, I think James Boyd is covering everything for Athletic now Colts related.

still doesn’t excuse colts from posting stuff.

I think Colts social teams usually post their stories/clips at the end of the day. They take them throughout and then you'll probably see a dump of them at some point. This is what happened last week at least.

Not sure if their social teams are onsite everyday or are there days different than media.

I wonder if AR is the type of qb that can unlock playmaking ability in his supporting cast. Maybe we’ll see an even better Pittman……Pierce…..Cox even? Can AR make his teammates better like Peyton used to do back in the day?

I think this can definitely be the case, just in a different way then Peyton did it.

Peyton knew everyone’s role as good or better than they did. He held the team to an expectation and forced them into spots/windows. Very cerebral and knew what he wanted.

AR, at least initially I think will help the team take advantage of off script and creativity. Allowing players to work zones and run routes that we haven’t seen since Luck. We have so many tall receivers that I think they honestly have a chance to shine with ARs strong arm. This young team will feed off the flashiness of some of the stuff we’re about to see this season. I expect an energy to this team we haven’t seen in awhile.

Actually, I said it to tamp down any arguments, not to start one.   Hopefully, people here won't focus on TENs backup quarterback when they talk about AR.  If they did, it would be very revealing.

But, to offer another comment.  If the Colts didn't draft AR at 4, he probably also would have fallen out of the first round.  While we know that Irsay said he would have taken Levis if AR wasn't there, we haven't heard any other GM say that they would have taken AR if the guy they took wasn't there.  So the idea that AR was thought of as first round talent by the rest of the league is pure speculation.

We took a QB because we needed one to start soon.  No other team needs a QB to start soon, and starting soon is a criteria by which teams use first round draft picks.  I'll guarantee you that each team in the NFL is expecting the player they took in the first round to start sometime early in the season.   And that's why those players were considered first round talent at those respective positions by the teams who selected them.

While it can't be proven, I feel strongly that a team would have taken Richardson in the first had we not. His potential ceiling at the most important position is too high for 32 teams to pass on him completely, especially with the added hype of his combine and measurables.

I actually don't think he would have made it out of the top 10 honestly. Seahawks would have grabbed him or a team would have traded up. I don't think the noise about him strongly being considered by the Panthers as a #1 pick was inaccurate.

I think he would have to retire before the colts cut him to lose that money .  Matt stayed active until his money was due and waited for the colts to cut him .

    This^.

Colts are not getting that money or cap space back. He can do what he wants after the cut and all of that is still locked in.

His post says it's not retirement but I can't see who would pick him up unless it's in a backup role for a young QB.

The roster is definitely better than 2012.  Except for the most important position.

No doubt, Luck was truly something else.

I don’t want AR to try and be anything but himself though. He has skills Luck didn’t have and vice versa. As Ballard has said, he doesn’t need to be superman for us. I think we can win games with him and it’ll be far more fun than what we watched last year.

I definitely don’t think 11 wins is realistic but show me .500. Show me at least 3-3 in the division. LFG

All those 'what ifs' could happen.  Probably won't but we thought 2012 was a building year too.

I'll go on record that I was super optimistic last season.  I bought into Ryan being an adequate QB.  I believed our GM and coaches when they put Pryor and Pinter in those spots without much competition.  I thought Leonard put his pain behind him.  And I told everyone I know to draft Hines on their fantasy team.

But I really don't think we were as bad as our record last season.  If we end up with 9 wins, I won't be surprised.  But if we have a losing record and AR5 shows progress every week, I'll still be happy.

Get out the sunglasses, the future is bright.

    Exciting times!

I think this roster is better than 2012s roster. Just need AR to show us a little magic and we can be .500 at least.

I mean, our secondary is a huge question mark, there are pass rush concerns, pass protection concerns, only one proven wideout, and a very raw rookie QB.

I don’t disagree. Without a doubt a lot of questionables but every team has that. I  don’t agree that this is a bottom 3 roster. No way in hell.

On the defensive side we will be better this year than last. Our pass rushers have another year of growth and I’m feeling a breakout. Dayo will be healthier after another year of recovery. Buck and Grover still giving us one of the best rush defenses in the league. There is talent there. They kept us in games we had no business being in almost all year including beating the SB champs. Not even including Shaq.

I don’t see any scenario that our offense is worse this year then they were last year. Regardless of which of our QBs start.

We are talking about tenths of a second here. That can be made up in a variety of ways.

I love the way Josh runs routes with his entire body, which is why I think Reggie likes him so much.

And can we please stop acting like hes slow? He ran sub 4.5.

Agree. He's plenty fast. Downs had one of the quickest short yard bursts at the combine. I think that will jump out most, hit him on a slant and he's going to push through quickly.

  11. Top end speed is overrated IMO.

I rather have a precise route runner that has great quickness and acceleration who can find the gaps in the defense. That is going to give you more consistent production and moves the chains.

EDIT:  To be clear, I am not saying it's not a good trait to have. I just don't think it's the defining factor in creating a great player.

Watched it a second time and I think I saw Irsay entering the draft room using a cane.  That was a first for me if my eyes weren’t deceiving me.

He definitely seems to be laboring more than normal. The other odd thing with Irsay was the clip of his call with Richardson.

Ballard and Shane talk to AR using the standard landline but then you see Irsay using his iPhone. With the other draft picks you see Irsay using the landline. Maybe they didn’t catch all of what Irsay said to AR and had him reenact it? Just a weird inconsistency I noticed.

  13. We are already kinda into the final phase of free agency. You’ll see movement as vets get cut/released during training camps and cap structuring for the rookies.

I don’t think we should expect too many signings at this point but maybe a few. Could see a trade or two also as the roster begins to take shape. E.g. MAC getting traded for a pick or a player.

The bold has me so thoroughly confused lol

Lol misnomer is definitely the wrong word. Basically, Ballard was saying that even the great teams that win still have weaknesses/gaps/lack of positional depth on their team. He was being questioned about depth if I recall.

To me, many fans have a misconception that the teams that make these runs in the playoffs don’t have weaknesses or are significantly better than our roster. Sure the teams are built different than Indy and I think that’s what gets to some fans. They see a specific strategy working well for a few years and it becomes easy to assume you can’t win another way. I just don’t follow that line of thinking, I think there are a couple of different ways to make a run and I think Indy is down one of those paths. Strong defensive play with high turnovers, efficient spread offense with a featured run game.

Seems players are too.  More than one said they wanted to come to Indy because they see a loaded team.  I remember before I think the Pats game last year one of the guys on the Pats said you turn on the Colts tape and think how is this team not undefeated?  I think we are so critical of the team because we are so close and tend to take the good for granted.  This is a good team with a good roster mostly built by the current GM.  Is it perfect?  No, but what team in the NFL is?

I think the unanswered question is how much did Carson Wentz hold the team back last year?  If you ask most fans, players around the league, the media that covers the league and most importantly the Colts brain trust themselves the answer is a lot.  I do think there are some fans who feel the answer is not much which is why they aren’t confident in things getting better because they don’t buy the theory the Colts seem to be selling that Wentz was the major issue.  Unfortunately we aren’t going to get an answer to this question until well into the season so until it’s probably going to be debated.

Well said, couldn't agree more. I've been trying to scream it from the rooftops for awhile now. If you listen to Ballard's most recent presser he even goes on to say that it's a misnomer that even the best teams don't have holes. All teams have strengths and weaknesses. Winning can be done a variety of ways and any fanbase including this one can definitely be overly critical.

I think this squad will be both more consistent and a more sound football team. I really like our chances at being competitive against the top teams in the NFL this upcoming season. If we stay healthy, who knows how high this team can go. We have plenty of the pieces.

Far more excited and confident going into this upcoming year than I was last season.

  16. So I've been posting positive comments in all of these other threads that are filled with doom and gloom fans...I thought to myself damn, I should just start a thread to talk about the positive and what people are excited about for the year. I've noticed this thread several times and my mind just instinctively was reading it as a thread about Colts players who are positive for COVID. I guess I should practice some of that optimism that I'm preaching. LOL

Anyways here are the things I'm most excited for this upcoming season:

    • The re-emergence of Nyheim Hines - get the ball in that man's hands with some space and he can make great things happen. Seeing his usage and role last year really upset me week after week. He can be one of our biggest offensive playmakers IMO.
    • The growth of the pass rush - new coaching, adding a proven veteran and the growth of some of our rookies has me pumped. Out of all of the positional groups I really think we see the biggest improvement here which is going to bring this defense to an entirely new level. Maybe even top 5 in points against (we were 10 last year I believe).
    • Matt Ryan - Really excited to see what he gives us. This guy wants to win, he is mature, smart, and consistent. This is literally the closest I've felt to a "Manning led team" since he left. I loved Andrew Luck, it hurt when he left. He was an incredible talent but he was also timid and kind. Ryan is a different kind of leader that I think works a bit better as the franchise guy.
    • Jonathan Taylor - this one goes without saying right? Can he have another career year? Will be fun to watch.
    • Development of our WR group under Reggie - I think people are underestimating this hire and what he can do for our young guys. He's a HoF'er, a world champion. He brings that mentality and I hope it rubs off on our guys.
    • Betting on the Colts Futures to make a little money. For those who say we aren't close to winning the division, I say check them odds because Vegas is rarely wrong. :)

Losing Glow won’t be as easy to replace as some think.

I liked Glow but was there a distinguishable difference when he was in vs Reed? Genuinely, if there are stats I would love to see them because anecdotally I didn't notice a difference. There was a reason he was splitting his reps IMO.

    Drastically better on paper?

They swapped out one middle of the pack QB for another who has been middle of the pack the past few years. And while Ryan has a much better track record, he’s also 8 years older. His MVP season was a long time ago, much like Wentz’s was as well. And he is also going to be 38. Not every QB can be Brady, Rodgers or even Rivers:

Ngakoue is no doubt a big improvement in production and performance over Turay, who was previously the pass rushing specialist. Just about any proven pass rusher would have been.

But it did come at the cost of their CB1, who finally put together a very promising season. That’s a downgrade until we see how replacement.

And starting CBs (in this defense) suddenly being less important with a better pass rush is still theoretical. For now, losing Rock offsets the pass rush improvement.

I think this team can still win 9-10 games. But if there is any regression with TOs on defense or if Taylor merely plays at a level below being an MVP…I don’t see this team winning MORE games than last year, let alone being drastically better.

There are several holes on this roster. And we will have to see how they get addressed.

If last year showed us anything, we don't need stellar QB play to win big games. We need consistent and smart football. Wentz had less INTs than Ryan but let's not forget his INTs came in some extremely critical moments, as did some of his sacks. I am confident that we will be a better, more consistent and higher scoring offense than we were last season barring any major injuries. I'm willing to bet on that.

I liked Rock and thought he was improving but CB play is not as important as line play. Better pass rush will make our entire secondary look better than it is. With the offensive rules the way they are I will take that trade any day all day because it will lead to more sacks and more punts opposed to getting beat on a 3 and 11 comeback route. I do agree that as of now we can consider it a wash until we see the proof.

There are definitely weaknesses but I wouldn't say we have any major holes. No team has every position filled with depth. One position group will always be stronger than another. We don't have stellar wide receivers, but we have two extremely talented running backs that will be used in a far greater capacity this year. Our CBs aren't great, but do we need them to be great if our pass rush gets better? We have competent players at every position group with the occasional player who doesn't have a ton on tape yet but what they have put on tape has been promising (e.g. Pryor, Pinter, Rodgers). I do hope we resign Reed.

Just curious, outside of Rock, what other player have we lost this year that you feel had the most positive impact on our team? I can't help but to look at this team and feel way more confident that we will be able to compete than I did last year.

  19. 29 minutes ago, Matabix said:

We produced a lot of Pro bowlers. 3 all pros. So far we have lost none of the pro bowlers. Gained a MVP, excellent not elite pass rusher.

Baffles me how we can have 27 pages of disgruntled fans complaining about his job.

Thank you. Anyone who says this team isn't better now then where we were last year on paper is crazy. We've improved drastically at critical positions and haven't really lost anyone that was some major talent for us, literally not one single person. Yes, we have areas of potential weakness but EVERY team does.

This team can win a lot of games, count on it.
