It was reported he told teammates on Friday.

There was a story where the LS Rhodes said he found out from a fan during the game, that showed him a text with Schefter's tweet.  Idk, maybe he wasn't there on Friday.

I think it was pretty selfless towards his wife and unborn child.  I also think he let the team talk him into trying to work it out for far longer than necessary.

Luck said himself that he was mentally broken, the cycle of injury, pain, rehab, injury, pain, rehab was too much and the only way to break that cycle was to step away from football.  He also said that he promised himself he wouldn't play through pain again.  I'm not saying he's wrong for retiring, I actually think it's the smart thing to do.  But you can't call an act selfless when the act was done to take care of yourself.

I wonder if that play wasn't edited and circulated all over the internet, does Nelson still receive a fine, i bet the NFL doesn't even take a second look ..

Even before the scream edit was released by the Colts the NFL had a clip of the block posted on their Facebook page.  Captioned with something along the lines of "this is how a guard is picked for offensive rookie of the month".  So they were well aware of the play anyway.

If everyone wants to be completely black and white about this, Luck was meeting his high expectations through 2014 as he took a step forward every year and made the AFC Championship game. After that, everything fell apart at once. Luck got hurt, our poor drafting and FA signings caught up to us, Pagano got exposed as a coach more and more, and we hit a free fall. So yes, Luck lived up to expectations in his first 3 years. However, after that, it has been a train wreck and we are back to square one in year 2 of a rebuild where Luck is almost 29 years old and just recovering fully from a major injury.

So Luck was on his way to exceeding expectations early. Has he exceeded the first 3 years of his career? Yes. However, his whole career to date has been underwhelming and for his hype, hasn't lived up to expectations through 7 years.

So he was living up to the hype until multiple factors that were completely out of his control have derailed him from doing so. Makes perfect sense to lay that at his feet.  I would love to see how many QBs could go out there with the injury that he sustained to his throwing shoulder and put up the numbers this guy did in 16.  My guess is there would be very very few, if any, but yeah that sure is underwhelming to me.

True, but it's not just that, it's also the fact that we were in every game when Peyton played. Even against the Patriots. I haven't felt that way since 2014 with Luck. Hopefully with him getting healthy that feeling will come back. It's definitely taken some of the joy out of Football the last few years.

Roster for roster, coach for coach, and GM for GM Manning has had it better in his tenure in Indy than Luck has had, and it's not even close.  IMO, your Manning idolization has completely clouded any judgement you may have on Luck.

Well no matter who the coach is they have to have talented players to call and make plays work.  Blaming the Colts problems on the coaches is over looking the other problems the team had.

Not disagreeing about the necessity of talent for the coaches to work with, but it's also a coach's job to put the players in the best position possible to succeed.  I saw very little, especially from the OC and the HC, that put the players in a position to succeed.  There was a thread awhile back about the Colts playcalling tendencies in the 4th qtr last season.  You tell me how doing something 100% of the time when you have a certain personnel package in puts those players in a position to succeed? The plays are doomed to fail when the defense knows what you are doing well before the ball is snapped, and it's compounded when you lack the talent that the guy lined up opposite of you has.  I put the overwhelming majority of the blame squarely at the coaches feet.

I would hope and expect Luck to be paying most of the costs for his teammates.

    Air faire.    Rental car.   Hotel.

    Seems only fair to me.

And I’d expect next week to be in Florida.    And the week after leads into the start of camp, I’d think Luck would work with the guys in Indy.

I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Colts aren't picking up the tabs for a lot of these expenses.

No they're not.   The young guys are making low to mid-6 figures.

Half of that goes to taxes and union fees and agents,  etc.

Of the WR's,  only Hilton and Grant are making bank.   Of the TE's,  it's Doyle and Ebron.    Everyone else is making close to minimum.     It's not as much as you think.

Luck is the injured one.    He's the one who forcing guys to travel near and far.    He's the one making huge money.    It's not required for him to do any of what I'm suggesting,   but I hope it doese it anyway.    I think it's the right thing.

I seriously doubt Luck is forcing anybody to do anything.  I'm guessing it's more of a teammate willing to help out another teammate.  Especially when that teammate decides who he throws the ball to, which ultimately decides what kind of season/(and in the much longer view) career they may end up having.  I'm sure none of these guys needed their arms twisted to make the trip to Cali.

I know this sounds silly for a long snapper but he better show marked improvement this year.  last year his snaps were slow and on PATs/FG off the mark.

And not to say he won't improve... it's like anything else, it takes practice.... lots and lots of practice.

In all fairness he was brought to the team as a LB, and took over full time LS duties when they traded the LS during training camp.  The fact that he didn't send any past Rigoberto while punting or holding, and didn't get any penalties that I can recall I consider that a huge success.

Oh the eternal optimism of youth.  lol

Your expectations may be a bit unreasonable for a guy just coming back from shoulder surgery.  It would be quite a fairy tale season though if your dream comes to fruition.  Stay young my friend.

His numbers were pretty good (fairly close to the OP's optimistic projections) with a jacked up shoulder in 2016, a healthy shoulder and a confident Luck in that shoulder, I don't see why those numbers would be out of reach.  The INTs are a little low, IMO, but with the right coaching and a safer offense (less downfield throws) even that is plausible.

well we better get the man some guys who an catch the ball and guys who can block in the offseason , I for one am not sure how his health is , I am not sure anyone noticed him on the sidelines besides me but he was doing everything lefthanded

I've noticed that too.  Even little things like adjusting his hat was done with the left hand.  Things that naturally you just do with your dominant hand he wasn't doing with his.  I'm hoping that was just his new norm since he couldn't use his right post surgery for awhile.

Have we only played 10 second halves this season?

Since they got shut out by the Jags at home, you could say they didn't play the first or second half of that game, thus leaving you with 10 second halves.

....some times you have to laugh to keep from crying.

  12. No, let Luck have the rest of this season plus the off season to hopefully be a full go once OTAs and TC begin for next year.  We would make zero noise if we did miracle ourselves into the postseason.

    With Luck?

Check the stats...  last year Luck enjoyed one of, if not his best year statistically.

You don't like Chud -- fine.

But I couldn't help but notice that you didn't really address my argument.   The posters idea to make the offense better actually would make our offense worse.

And the poster thought it was an easy simple fix...    it isn't...

Luck's stats might've been one of his best ever, that isn't my point.  How you managed to construe that from my comment I'll never know.

My point is that our offense has been predictable under Chud, which it has been, and that Brissett can't be used as an excuse because it was predictable when Luck was under center too.

  14. You can't fix stupid, and high jumping on top of a pile of players when the play is over is about as stupid as it gets.

What on earth did he really think his contribution on that play was going to be?

  15. 8 hours ago, NewColtsFan said:

Things are almost never as simple as fans think they are....

In your scenario you have just made us completely predictable.

When Gore is in,  he will run between the tackles.

When Mack is in,  he will run to the outside.

Every defense will know our tendences simply based on who we put in.

We want Mack to be able to do most everything,  certainly more than what he's capable of doing now.    Otherwise, we are completely predictable.

The Colts play calling has been predictable and stale for awhile now no matter the personnel packages used.  Chud has next to no creativity to his offense.  And this doesn't just apply to him having Brissett and needing to shorten the playbook, it was extremely predictable with Luck also.

  16. 12 hours ago, Dark Superman said:

I can see your point, but this season is already gone, so why throw Mack into the fire this year?

Keep him fresh. He's our future. Let Gore take the load this season in order to keep Mack fresh. The less we use Mack this season, the less tape our opponents will have on him.

Keep thinking long term. That's how I'm approaching this.

What good is tape on Mack going to do when there is a very high probability that the Colts are running a completely different offense next season after the coaching staff is cleaned out?

I'm sure DCs are going to watch all the tape at how Chud improperly uses his players (like running your speediest RB straight up the gut 9 times out of 10) and totally use that to game plan how a new OC is going to use Mack.

ITT: people once again trying to invalidly argue that #1 WRs never get shutdown.

It happens to the best of them, never is a word that shouldn't be used.  It just seems our #1 WR gets shut down a little too often.  But some seem to be happy with that.  I take it you're fine with his disappearing acts?

  18. 4 minutes ago, IinD said:

I get it, honestly I do. He's listed at 178 lbs, I don't think he's ever going to be beast mode.

Give him ANYTHING at #2 and I think he'd be more consistent. I don't even know who our#2 is this season.

He wants the respect that a #1 should get and he cashes the paycheck a #1 would should get,  so unfortunately for him, he needs to find a way to be beast mode, or he needs to learn to accept the criticism he gets.

  19. 3 minutes ago, IinD said:

Not singling you out, but to me it's simple.

He's a stud. You don't get rid of him.

DE's don't get sacks every game, doesn't mean they suck.

I ALWAYS jump on dumb players and coaching, but TY is at the bottom of the list to me.

515 yards this year and he'll probably have another 150 yd game or two. He's a player, even if it's for 10 out of 16 games a year.

We'd lose even worse if Ty were to go down, teams wouldn't even cover the other wrs.

I've never said he sucked.  You don't lead the NFL in receiving yards if you suck.  What I want from T.Y. is consistency.  If having a player show up 10 out of 16 games is good enough for you I don't know what to tell you, because it's not good enough for me.  A #1 WR will find a way to beat double teams.  A #1 WR will find a way to show up week in and week out.  A #1 WR doesn't act like Jeckyl and Hyde.  It's a whole lot easier to be a star on a team full of players without talent. It's no wonder that nobody outside of the Colts fanbase doesn't look at T.Y. as a top tier WR.

He's on pace for 1K this year.

    You expecting 2K I'm guessing??

With him it's hard to say what to expect because you never know what you're going to get out of him.  One of two things will happen next week in Houston, he'll go for 150+ or he'll disappear.

  21. For everybody that says just wait until Luck comes back, just please do us all a favor and revisit T.Y.'s stats from his previous seasons.  It is littered with games where he has hardly any catches and hardly any yards.  He is strictly a feast or famine receiver.  He either balls out or he ghosts out.

Even last season when he lead the league in receiving he still had 5 games with less than 50 yards receiving and another where he had 54.  Imagine if he could actually be found 16 games a season, those numbers could be off the charts good, but unfortunately that's not the player that he is.
