  1. This has been answered several times on this board. The 28 million is due before the start of the new year for the NFL. The CBA prohibits teams and players from renegotiating contracts before the start of the new year. If the Colts do not pay the 28 million by March 8th, Manning is a free agent.

It has been stated by everybody surrounding this story (reporters, fans, "experts") that Manning and his agent are able to move the date of the bonus back to a later date. Irsay and Manning, in their discussions of the future, will definitely discuss the possible postponement of this date. If both sides are willing to re-negotiate that can happen without having to make him a FA first. The problem with letting it go to FA from the Colts standpoint is that you don't want to get in a possible bidding war with other teams.

  2. Peyton will be released and re-signed by the Colts for a different contract amount that they would have agreed to before releasing him :). That is the only way the Colts retain an unhealthy Peyton, if both parties are willing to re-negotiate and Peyton wants to retire a Colt.

If both parties cannot come to an agreement on how his health will shape up in the future, the divorce is on. Irsay will not speculate, Tom Condon and to an extent, Peyton will be the ones who will want to speculate, especially if the Colts doctors do not clear him.

Why would they need to release and then resign if they are willing to re-negotiate? That can be done without making him a FA.

  3. I'm not going to say who should stay or go for whatever reasons, I'm going to trust that Irsay, Grigson, and Pagano are going to do what is best for this team in the next 1-15+ years. You can't just look a few feet in front of you because you'll run head on into a semi truck barreling down the road at you. That being said, leave it up to those who are actually getting paid and ultimately held accountable to make "knowledgeable" decisions about the personnel.

  4. Pretty much exactly what 21isSuperman said. If you have a rookie QB starting you want to have a run game to help take pressure off of him. It's hard telling if Arians will adapt to the offense we've been running, have a mixture of old plus his new, or change totally to what he knows. I've said the same thing about Pagano, I think you change to what you know. It's the best way that he can try to succeed at the job. If you try to do something you're not you set yourself up for failure. I think it will be a blend until they get all the personnel they want to have, and then the all out change will come.

  5. or MAYBE they think that if we have a healthy Peyton next year and TRADE the pick, we can better retool the team in positions of need, and then take a QB in the next year's draft (one that we would also have multiple first round picks in, if we trade the #1 this year)

Irsay has said that he's taking a QB with the pick so I seriously doubt they trade it. Although it could be his way of getting teams to come off of more picks in an attempt to persuade him to trade out.

  6. I totally understand the sentiment for Peyton and the apprehension people might have about all the hype around Luck, but I truly feel this kid is going to be the real deal. He's got everything you want from a potential franchise QB. He's got the work ethic that Leaf and Jemarcus Russel didn't have and he doesn't have half the ego that Leaf & Russel had. I just really don't see the bust potential with this kid. The biggest thing he would have going against him is that all the "Manning Colts fans" will crucify this kid if he has a bad game, when in actuality the true Colts fans should stand behind the guy and give him support. Manning's rookie year was 3-13 with more INTs than TDs, he had a great second season and had a relapse in record in the 3rd year so it took him awhile to get the greatness going, Luck should be afforded the same patience that Manning was given. Let's not break this guy down before he would even be given a chance.

  7. I still can't figure out why anybody pays any attention to what these "reporters" or "sources" have to say. The media is all about controversy and making something of nothing. Manning leaving Indy is a much more attractive story for them to run into the ground. I've refused to allow myself to get wrapped up in anybody's opinions of what's going to happen with Manning. Unless it comes directly from Manning, Irsay, or Condon I just tune out and wait for people to gossip about what they just heard. I always respond with Manning has said he wants to stay with the Colts, and Irsay has said that he wants a healthy Manning to remain a Colt, and Condon has said that Manning wants to stay in Indy and hasn't had any calls from any other teams should Manning be released (although I'm sure that would be some sort of tampering and he wouldn't/couldn't say if any team truly has for fear of league penalty). I have no choice but to take the guys at their word, but we'll see what happens because talk is cheap a $28 million bonus isn't. MANNING NEEDS TO RESTRUCTURE AND TAKE LESS MONEY!

  8. That's when Manning's bonus has to be paid. The Colts will not be the same franchise without Manning. Manning turned the Colts into one of the most DOMINANT franchises in the NFL. Manning built Lucas Oil Stadium(fans would still be watching games in the RCA Dome without Manning being here). Manning is the reason the Super Bowl is in Indy. The NFL decides the Super Bowl cities based on team performance and their stadium. We wouldn't have the stadium or the past winning seasons without Manning. The city probably wouldn't even have a professional football team. Many fans will leave the Colts camp if Manning is gone, I WILL NOT, however, I'm going to be prepared to see many miserable years ahead of us, unless Luck is the next Manning, which is highly doubtful, because Peyton Manning's don't come around too often.

I know that's when the bonus date is, but why do people insist that a decision has to be made now, or even before then? If I'm Irsay I wait until that date before I say yes or no, unless a miracle happens before then that Manning's nerve is 100%. I realize everything that Manning has done for this team, city, state, and the NFL but if the guy can't make the throws necessary due to weakness of the muscles or numbness in the arm then why should you continue to pay the man? Out of sentiment? Out of "respect"? It's always easier to spend somebody else's money. All players careers come to an end, be it altogether or with a particular team. The man can't play forever and to just say that he deserves to continue to be paid because of what he did, well then the 49ers should still be giving payroll checks to Montana. Get real!

  9. The timing is unfortunate however i see it as if there is a lot of hints that Irsay is ready to move on and Peyton is a top world athlete that wants to play for the colts more than anything. He may see it as IF he gets cut did he do everything in his power to try to show Irsay and whoever else that he does not want retire or be let go to free agent. So if i were him i would do whatever i felt was best for myself/family interest. But yes the timing of it all couldn't be worse for it all.

If Manning was doing everything in his power to stay then don't you think he should say that yes I will move the date for the bonus back if the nerve is still questionable and yes I will take less money by reworking my contract, seeing as how I just made $26 mil to rehab and cheerlead this last season. Whether Manning stays in Indy depends on Manning. Even though Irsay says it's not about the money, don't fool yourself, when you're in a business it's always about the money. Manning needs to make the concessions necessary for him to stay a Colt, because if not he won't be.

  10. It's the media's job to make something out of nothing. Manning leaving Indy is a much juicier story for them than him staying here. It's really a shame that they feel the need to force feed everybody this "Manning/Irsay fued". Take for example Manning's interview with Kravitz, where he said the environment was different and that everybody was walking on eggshells. What did people expect him to say, that it was business as usual? Of course it's different, and it feels awkward, but that doesn't mean that Manning is out the door. I would think if that was a certainty then Manning wouldn't even be around the Colts facility rehabbing the nerve. Everybody just needs to take a chill pill and relax, and regardless of what happens, it's out of our control. You'll either stand behind this team moving forward or you won't, it's really just that easy. GO COLTS!!!!

  11. I'm with everybody that says you have to give the guy time to prove himself. I understand that people might not get the best vibe or might not take to the guy right away, but that's the way it is any time there is change. There is always that feeling out period where one has to get to know the other. I'm not going to pass any judgement on the man until I start seeing what he's able to do with the personnel that he brings in. Let's also keep in mind that Irsay, understandably, has the guy on a very short leash and that ultimately it will be Irsay pulling the trigger on a lot of the decisions being made. Looking forward to the draft and FA that's for sure! GO COLTS!!!!!

  12. Here's my .02 worth. Manning said he wants to be a Colt, Irsay says a healthy Manning will be a Colt. Now it's up to both men to live up to their words and make it happen. The ball is totally in Manning's court though. The doctors have signed off on the neck fusion, but the nerve needs to be rehabbed and regenerate. Come March 7th (day before the bonus is due) if Manning still isn't at the level he needs to be then the date has to be moved. Something that only him and his agent can make happen. Peyton also needs to be more realistic on the amounts of the $ they are dealing with. It's hard not to get to bring sentiment or emotion into the matter but logically and realistically it doesn't make sense for Irsay to keep spending large quantities of money on Manning, who not even the man himself can say he's going to be able to perform at the level he needs to. Irsay will do what he feels is going to be best for this team in the next 10-15+ years, not just the next 1-3. Not necessarily on here, but I've read countless "fans" reaction that if Manning leaves they will leave, or that Irsay needs to quit "disrespecting" Manning and give him the money already. Between the new GM, HC and other staff, and hosting the Super Bowl Irsay has been quite busy with more pressing matters. Why does a decision even need to be made before 3/8? And to those who have said they'll leave the Colts fan base if Manning leaves, then I say fine, goodbye, we don't want you here anyway bandwagoners! GO COLTS!!!!
