Very pleased with this signing!
-
Its not but its not a terribly bad deal for the colts either.
Lol....I meant for The Colts ;)
-
You don't judge defensive linemen in a 3-4 by their stats.
True, the LB's get all the press and stats! I hope this happens plus I read where there was some "play" on Somali(sp?) from the Fins....gotta have a real NT to make this thing work ;)
-
And now?
Me personally I love Reggie and how he is; its the whole Miami Mentality (I think) Anyway 3 yr. 17.5 ain't bad:)
Go Colts
No, a 3 year 17.5 mil deal ain't bad for him!
-
Cory is a great start to the new hybrid 3-4! If he is signed, that is!
-
Actually, Unitas had 4 NFL Titles. Hey, check out my avitar. What memories.....
Yep and actually called his own plays ;)
-
Unitas was the greatest Colt of all time but I will give you Indy.By the way Johnny U 3 titles>PM 1
No doubt! And he didn't retire a Colt also.
-
ridiculous overreaction.Anyone who thought is was going to work wih Luck is delusional.Pm is old in football years,it's time to let Luck sew his NFL oats. They will be better off in the long run.
Guys like us who have been Colts fans more than a minute understand that things happen like this in football. I watched Unitas, Jones and Harbaugh leave....I actually feel bad for those, like FX Stryker, who have never known this feeling until now...but it was inevitable, unfortunately.
-
...and who will you be rooting for when he is doing that?
Colts fans are Colts fans......unless they rode the PM bandwagon???? Which I can see why so many did! I do however hope the best for PM unless he plays he Colts!
-
Yea....I also heard he would never play again and he was washed up, damaged goods.
I was answering her question if anyone else heard similar reports....not that I believe any of what I hear/read necessarily. Personaly I am at the point where Thursday at 4:00pm can't get here soon enough ;)

Kelly Holcomb & Doug Nussmeier were here in 98.. Steve Walsh came in 99
Thank you! I forgot about Kelly and remembered Walsh and Rypien after 1998.

Who did Peyton have to compete with to get the starting job? Who would Luck have to compete with to get the starting job? It's like people who say "Cam Newton started in the NFL right away and Luck is better than Newton, so Luck should start". But who did Newton have to beat out for the starting QB position? Certainly not a HOF QB
I think you, which suprises me, and others seem to have confused the differance beween wanting an incoming player to compete to start vs. making an already established player compete to keep his job? I, nor anyone I agree with said that. We merely don't understand why you wouldn't want the incoming player to compete? It is the only way to learn and grow as a player...it really is quite simple?
-
I didn't remember any, and I tried to google it. No luck though.
It's funny until you said that I was like there has to be a backup! I do however believe there was at least one on the Practice Squad?
-
Peyton was given the starting job, exactly why we released Harbaugh. I don't think we had another QB on the roster.
Harbaugh was traded to Baltimore and you are correct to make room for Manning. I do believe there was a practice squad QB on the roster possibly two?
-
Players that don't compete to be a starter won't ever be one.
Exactly and the "because he's Andrew Luck" comments are childish....so are the "because he is Peyton Manning" comments. I would say the same if it was RG3 or any other QB Indy drafted....
-
Of course I don't expect him to shy away from it, but there is no chance he beats out a healthy Peyton. Peyton Manning is one of the greatest QBs of all time; Andrew Luck hasn't taken a single snap in the NFL
Neither did Peyton in 1998 and he was given a chance to compete for a starting spot just like all players are at every position on the football team. If you don' give Luck a chance to show what he can do wih the first teamers then you may as well stick wih Painter.
-
Everyone should hope that Luck comes in and trys to compete for the starting job. Why would we want anyone on our team that doesn't want to be on the field? That being said, he would have no chance. But he sure as heck better try.
EXACTLY!! I really don't understand why anyone wouldn't want him to compete?
-
It would give Andrew false hope
I don't buy that for a second. If anything it would instill in him that the team has faith in him now and moving forward. I wouldn't want a player that didn't want to compete or shied away from competition regardless of whom it was against.
-
Does anyone think Luck has a chance of beating out a healthy Peyton Manning for the starting job? Anyone at all?
Thats not what the report implied, though there is nothing wrong with healthy competition ;)
-
If Luck outplays PM in the preseason then, well, I can see how the team would choose to play Luck. But to not give Peyton the benefit of the doubt as the starter...? Again. Total slap in the face.
The way it was stated was given a chance to compete for the starting job. Not that PM, if in Indy, was on equal ground with Luck. Of course he would be the 1st string QB going into camp, if healthy enough and in Indy, that is a given and nothing else was implied.
-
Getting reps - ok. Competing to be the starter - completely insulting.
You would rather have a player coming in that doesn't want to compete to be the starter at his position?
-
Good. I was hoping I was not delusional as I drove home and was drinking a large diet coke at the same time. I thought it was caffeine highs I was experiencing.
Naaah the caffeine isn't to blame this time ;)
-
Yeah, he said that on the NFL Channel. But it has to be pure speculation because no one from the Colts organization would dare say that to a reporter.
It does make sense though, if you have the #1 pick in the draft you want him to get reps. And we all know Peyton takes all the snaps in practice.
Breer made it sound like a deal breaker, but I think Peyton is more mature than that.
I would think PM would have no trouble with Luck geting reps and competing for the starting job. One of the reasons for last years debacle was the lack of a quality back up QB that knew the system and had familiarity wih the 1st teamers.
-
Jules, I heard the same and similar reports of the like.
Obviously We Dont Have A Plan

Lol another winning thread by OUM! Want some cheese with that whine???? I kid, I kid....seriously though, you need leaders on a team regardless if you are re-building or not? I know some would wanna place the big letter "C" on Drake Nevis or Mike Pollak but that ain't the way it works ;)
