I was hoping Jim would stay in college, I didn’t want us fans to deal with the drama that comes from him. He also still has pending issues with the NCAA which I’ve heard the league may choose to enforce against him should he be punished further.

Ehh.   they didn't do anything to "Pete the Cheat".  Doubt they do anything to Harbaugh.    He's good for the league IMO

I know this topic has aged a little bit.  But something just hit me.

I was having a conversation about the fan demand for Gus Bradley to play more modern Vic Fangio Cover-6 defense, and found myself having to explain the evolution to the Cover-6:

    • Cover-2:  Both safeties play back, dividing the deep field into two zones.  The corners are responsible for the flats.
    • Cover-3 (Gus's defense):  Single high Free Safety, with both corners playing back, dividing the deep field into three zones.  The outside linebackers are responsible for the flats.
    • Cover-4 (Quarters):  All four DB's play back, dividing the deep field into four zones.
    • Cover-6 (Fangio):  Used against the popular 3-by-1 offensive formations.  Divide the field in half.  On the 3 WR side, play Quarters (CB and Safety back, LB in flat).  On the 1 WR side, play Cover-2 (Safety back, CB in the flat, looking like the WR is single covered.)

And it suddenly hit me.  In order to play Cover-6 you need to have both guys playing Free Safety on both halves of the field.

Gus Bradley doesn't run the Fangio defense, not because he's stubborn, but because he can't.  He's limited by personnel.  Blackmon and Cross both play Strong Safety.  Thomas is our only Free Safety.  He doesn't play it that well, so he barely counts.  We don't play this defense because we can't play this defense.  And he won't play it next year either, unless he gets better personnel at the Free Safety position.

    Am I wrong on this?

I mentioned this in the Ballard press conference thread.     Gus uses the old school FS/SS concept instead of the interchangeable safeties like most of the league is using .   Maybe he can change but he never has that I know of.    And I believe safety is of high priority for this D

not a fan of media headlines like that. Apparently he’s a victim of being fired like Frank was. Neither of their next moves worked out, whereas the Colts move seems to be the correct one… but let’s blame the Colts

And Global warming.  Don't forget to blame global warning.   That % is everywhere

you know what is worst? NFL starting to limit viewership by making huge money on streaming apps. Im for anybody making money on their investments. I have been telling my wife that the NFL is heading to pay per view ie. 39.95 for a single game.

I had the Sunday ticket for 16 years. I figured paying 300 plus dollars a year was a lot cheaper than watching at a bar and spending 50-100 dollars on barfood and drink. We got to see Peyton and the crew for many years except when they played Jacksonville who could not sell out. Being in the Jacksonville area, the games were blacked out.

Now the package cost around 400-500 dollars. If your team is successful, Monday,Thursday and Saturday games will not be on the expensive package. To add to all of this, Youtube has to be streamed. With streaming comes annoying buffering and technical problems. In sixteen years with satellite coverage, We never missed a moment, even during September,October and November hurricanes. The designation of the first playoff game to be streaming only was chosen to be the Kansas City game by design to show how many people will watch so they can push for more of the same thing. With the onboarding of the "swifty's to see their God child one more time, there will be undoubtably a surge in viewership.

Soory for the long rant. There was a time a working man could look forward to a game Monday nite, have a few cheap beers

and not have a cable bill, a streaming bill or send more money to Bezos to line his pockets while he gives out 10 dollar Amazon gift cards to his employees for Christmas bonuses.

We got to see one Colts game this year with the Texans. I guess this will be the new norm here on out. My brother has a large farm outside Indy. Maybe we will catch some live games next year if he doesn't put us to work first.

There are streaming services that are legal.   I wont mention any names due to the rules,   But when/if you search for them check to see if they have a broadcast license.

I would rather just hope Brock Bowers falls to them at 15 or do a slight trade up for him or Nabers.

    Not arguing just convo

So you would take Bowers over a WR?       We have not seen what Woods can be.

We have the top TE from the 2022 draft    But we have yet to see what he can do.  Due to injuries

Better idea to look at WR or any other position than TE??
