That guy up in New England is reported to be a totally different person that what he shows to the public. He is not that hard nose to his players than the impression he gives to the media. Ex Patriot players has said that more than a couple of times.

I read what Bill Parcells said about coaching. He said each player responses different to different things. Some players need yelled at while others need to be left alone. Some need a pat on the back while some need a kick in the rear. The key to success is for the head coach to know his players well enough to know what works.

Like I said in my comment, this idea of a head coach needing to be a hard a-- is old and out dated.

I was talking about TB12 being that verbal out spoken leader like PM18. My point is every team needs a guy to get mad when people are giving up. Whether coach or player you better have a few guys who will yell if need be.A rally cry......If your coach is not very RAhRah you need players to be. Dungy and Billy B have had real great locker rooms. Peyton, Brady, and any great competitor in sports hates losing. They expect the best from their team mates.

Give me a coach or player with passion for winning, over the guy scared to show his passion and competiveness. I love Dungy but I felt like we should've and could have done better if we weren't always so safe and passive as an franchise in those days. Playing it safe is smart but resting players when your team is rolling is not. Too many of those teams were often too soft imo not just on D, sorry just  not how I was taught to play or compete. Lol sorry for rambling.

Just because a coach appears to be a nice guy doesn't mean he is a bad coach. You don't have a clue on what goes on behind closed doors. This old out dated opinion that coaches need to be a hard a-- is exactly that. Most of today's players don't respond to that type of coaching.

The key is having a coach who knows his players well enough he can get results on a individual bases.

IMO a mix of both can definitely be a positive. If anything it starts with real football players. Hungry and driven players. I could care less how much a HC yells but every team needs "THAT". I think Dungy definitely benefited from those leaders in the locker room starting with #18. PM was never scared to set the tone with that fire in his gut. I think that guy up in NE has that fire too. A football organization is a huge band of brothers with every kind of character flaw. Sorry I just feel like many here still want the Dungy methodology applied just a tad too much. You can win many different ways... a current  example is that team in Philly.

  3. I had been referencing that video every time someone says how long they think it has been since he had picked up a football. Sports like everything is mostly mental. If his shoulder is good I personally am optimistic. Currently it's trendy to say he is done or be pessimistic..... and you know how this country and media can follow a trend right off the cliff.

Slim to none, and slim already left town. Apple has a 6 digit pass code lock. and a limited number of brute force attempts (6?) before it locks up. Then it needs to be erased and restored from iTunes account associated with that device. Also, through iCloud, they can lock it permanent, even if 6 attempts haven't been tried yet.

I'm certain Apple reps gave teams a full set of secure tools for those devices and helped them set them up, just for cases like this.

A programmer made the software.  A programmer can crack the security. No security is impenetrable! Always keep in mind, anything digital can be digitally stolen...

Peter Schrager is the lovechild of John Lovitz and Alf.

when did he become so "cool"?

He thought he was cool the moment he no longer had to wear his retainer. Btw I agree with MTC. It's not the worst channel to put on for a NFL fan. Specifically if you want the latest NFL news bright and early GMF is okay IMO ( no worse than  ESPN), but only when I am too lazy to scan headlines online. I prefer FS1 myself.

Agreed. They are built to win now. Their draft haul filled a few of their most pressing needs but I still think they need another CB.

Their roster was better than the Colts last year as well..... But W's are the only thing that matters. I don't believe any team that is picking top 5 has a roster for winning now. Unless they draft a young Peyton somehow. Agreed that they got bigger names in the draft but no one can say Elway had a great draft until we see results. In my parts John has been criticized for flunking the draft repeatedly.... on offense at least.

  7. Broncos are my number 2 team but I see the Chargers and KC as bigger threats for the AFCW. Roster has improved yes..... But the coaching staff is Pagano-esque....

Btw I live in Denver (currently in Cozumel,  MX on vacation ). Moved from Indy to CO in '13. So I hear tons of Broncos sport talk. Still I am not sold on the Broncos winning the division. I see the Colts having a similar ( if not better) record as the donkeys ....... IF Luck is healthy and plays all season.

I only care when he is in practice getting first team reps and performing 11 on 11 drills.  That's when I become interested in the 'performance'.

Here's the difference to me.  Throwing (anything, including weighted balls) in rehab or strength conditioning program(s) is a lot different than throwing in a live practice (11 on 11) or game.  In rehab/conditioning program, there is no pass rush, no defenders sticking up hands to block throwing lanes, nobody to move the QB off his spot. etc.  The QB practices mechanics and footwork in a perfect static setting.

In a practice or game, there is a pass rush, defenders trying to deflect passes, and it now becomes a very dynamic activity - totally different than throwing 'weighted' balls.  Also, if they have changed Lucks mechanics while trying strengthen his shoulder, he may do it well in rehab but 'revert' back to old form under pressure.  It's human nature.  That is why I prefer to wait until he gets in some 11 on 11 and see how he fares then.  Hopefully with excellence, though. And without any setbacks.

Well I hope they try to ease him into those types  of drills. If they are doing that to him the first week of TC, they are asking for trouble. I would prefer a healthy but rusty Luck than another set back...

Even though he doesn't have to give us anything, I'm hoping, like all of us, that we get some legit answered questions and not given strictly cliches like progressing and trending in the right direction.

Say something specific please. Just for the fanbase's sanity at least.

I fully expect secrecy and cliches, NFL teams try to keep as much info in house as possible.

Bye bye Barkley. Now the question becomes, will the giants take chubb

If so and the giants take Chubb we trade back hopefully for a kings ransom. I definetly don't want to go in the 20s. I really am waiting to see who we use this cap money for in FA. That will help us fans have an idea come the draft.

Moves are being made left and right for mid to late round picks. We may miss our chance to grab a sought after player, if we are unwilling to part with a later pick. Especially if your scenario plays out, we could be in prime position to get even more top picks. That said, its a deep class at several position it seems; hopefully we can hit on more of our picks than in recent history. Even though I like what Ballard has done, last years draft left room for improvement IMO.

  11. Love all three guys. Marvin>Reggie>TY. But TY could years from now overtake Wayne in my eyes with a stellar Luck returning. WRs are reliant on QB play, as well as the teams offensive identity. Marvin obviously was very fortunate to play with Manning but both players complimented eachother. TY can still be the best of the three all time statistically, that reliant on things going great with Ballard and Reich...

I have said more than once my preference is what is best for the Colts and feel this is not the time to project picks

If you want to understand my view read my multiple posts in this thread if not that is fine

Fair enough, I can't force anyone to simplify such a complex scenario into just a flat out "who is better?". Obviously you feel the Colts would better themselves by not taking Barkley at 3, clearly I am on the opposite side of that coin. I know your stance well, you among many others have stated your reasoning very well. I just simply don't agree and think many of you are over thinking this whole process. Which I believe is why many hesitate on the Barkley vs. Chubb better football player question... Football is about people, everything does not always happen the way it should have. Sorry if I struck a nerve or annoyed btw.

Your opinions are fine.  I am only saying that it is very unlikely for a good pass rusher to hit the FA market, is it possible yes, but very unlikely.  Good pass rushers tend to be good pass rushers no matter where they are.  Average pass rushers tend to look better than they are when put on a team that has an already good pass rush.  When average pass rushers are on a team without a good pass rusher, they stay average.  The Colts are in desperate need of difference makers on defense, whether Chubb is that difference maker I will leave up to Ballard.

Agreed successful pass rusher often dont hit FA. Which is why we must turn over every stone in our search. Our franchise leader in sacks was not likely to achieve what he has done in his career. I also recall we had guys who constantly got pressure (Sheard), a lot of those pressures would be sacks if our coverage was less atrocious IMO. Hopefully all our guys get healthy (too many to list lol). If we can figure out how to cover better, pass rush may look a lot better for all we know. That to me is possible without any noteworthy additions at DE. I believe that is why we switched back to a 4-3. Easier to plug and play defenders. Coverage will be key in that defense.

    Friendly Reminder from TigerTown

To have a successful draft a team must use both Need based and BPA

If you go into FA and Draft with the mentality of one  contract for a player, FO personnel will be job hunting because people will not come to a franchise

Just curious because I have asked several people on your side but rarely get a clear answer. Is Chubb better than Barkley? And/or will he be eventually? If you say yes to either then okay but if it is no, why not take the better player?

And who are you reminding? No one here has any say who or how we draft, luckily.

Positional needs are always a factor but I believe BPA comes first. Teams reach when they worry about positional needs. That is why the Browns have never had a QB, even though they draft one every year.

There isn't much of a point to signing below average pass rushers, which is what they would end up with.  That is essentially what the Colts have now.  A committee of average to below average pass rushers is not going to get it done.

You assume back up players are below avg always, but is it not possible the previous team had an embarrassment of riches at that position. Or just under utilized a player. Maybe scheme fit issues... Players can improve right? Sometimes a change of scenery is just as important.

At least i am popular on this thread... Even if my opinions aren't.

    LOL

I agree with BPA in the draft, whoever Ballard has graded as BPA.  I disagree that there are plenty of pass rushers available in FA.  Good pass rushers rarely make it to FA and most of the better pass rushers are picked early in the draft, there are outliers, but in general, a team has to get a good pass rusher early in the draft.

I never said good PRs. We will likely use a lot of rotations. Keep guys fresh for the 4th Quarter. Either way we will end up with a committee on DL or RB. I'd prefer a committee of pass rushers clearly.

I asked a different poster earlier in this thread, let me ask you: Do you think these old, great RBs are relevant to today's NFL? Jim Brown played in the NFL when the forward pass was still a novelty. QBs were completing 50% of their passes. Do you not agree that the increased productivity and efficiency in the passing game has reduced the value of RBs?

In principle, I disagree with the idea that "BPA" isn't simple if you adjust for positional value. You just have to determine how to account for projected longevity and impact on the game. I don't think it's arguable that RBs have a shorter shelf life than other positions. The conversation around the impact of a RB is much more nuanced.

You want a guy for the next 10 years. I want us to always build through the draft. Which I believe forces teams to let older players walk if they want the Brinks truck. Always get the younger cheaper option (if he is better/as good as what you have). And while I agree the game has changed a lot for passing teams. Still I think Barkley would be a huge threat receiving as well so I dont see that being a huge reason not to take a RB. I think if we have a chance to draft the best player in the draft, I say do it. Especially considering he immediately would upgrade the position IMO. I am not changing my opinion, and i dont expect anyone else too either. I think many people over complicate things, I am a minimalist. I'll stick with my gut, and it says Barkley>Chubb. Take the better players when you get a chance. We hopefully won't draft this high again for awhile. I am a fan, with a fans mentality.... Either way.... GO COLTS!
