  1. [quote name='Jason' timestamp='1316409739' post='35252' cleveland would work! i would love to kn

Agreed, agreed, agreed, agreed and...agreed. After seeing what Atlanta gave up last year to get Julio Jones and what Cleveland gave up a few years back to get Brady Quinn (they also have 2 first round picks this year ;) ) I could see another more needy team giving up an arm and a leg to move up for Luck. If he's on the board when we're up to pick I would without hesitation cash in on that.

And there are so many people who complain that we never put a good defense or a good running game around Manning. Both of those things are improving right now but there are still multiple holes. If we could shore up those holes and build a formidable defense and an effective running game and THEN draft our new franchise QB. Imagine how much easier that would make things for our future QB.

  2. Even if we went 0-16 and had the 1st pick, there is no way i would draft luck or any other qb. I really believe peyton is gonna make a full recovery. If we had the first pick i would use it on a true difference maker to help peyton or i would trade it for multiple picks that could help. I bet There are some teams that would overpay with draft picks to get andrew luck. I would definetly take advantage of that if it happened. I feel like alot of you guys that are wanting us to draft a quarterback are giving up on manning. We have one of ..if not THE greatest quarterback to ever play the game on our team. He could and should have another 4 years left. Atleast. Who knows ,maybe he even plays 5 if he is able. We got to surround him with every piece we can to help HIM win. Another qb doesnt help peyton. I dont care what anyone says....we owe #18. He has single handedly put indianapolis on the map. We have a new stadium because of him. Give the guy whatever he needs to make his last years the best possible!! Spend a high pick on a qb AFTER he retires.

  3. Conversely, did anyone see what happened after the Patriots got smoked by the Lions?

For two weeks, we heard about "Terrific Tom and the Patriots poised for a run," and "Everything's humming in Foxboro..."

Then their first team gets smashed by Suh, Stafford, and the Motor City Kitties and there wasn't a freaking word about it. Nothing. An article arrives late the next day describing just how meaningless the pre-season is, and how we can't gauge anything based on these exhibitions.

When the Patriots are looking sharp, the pre-season counts.

When the Patriots look like most pre-season teams, it doesn't count.

Same with the Colts, but in reverse.

Isn't that the truth!! it's almost comical.
  4. He didn't have less. Not even close. He worked with a bigger market, and therefore, a larger attraction; better offensive line, better special teams, and a better defense. He's had studs on every side of the ball that he's then been able to pawn off for phenomenal value in terms of draft picks.

"Hoody" has had the best stock of players for almost 10 years.

If we can't spread the field with Clark, Collie, and Wayne, then it's time to call this era officially closed. Clark and Collie simple can't be covered in the middle of the field. Period. If teams start chipping Clark at the line, and doubling Collie over the top, who's covering Wayne? If teams continue to double Wayne, Collie and Clark will go to town on those poor linebackers and safeties stuck in single duty.

When healthy, the current corps put up 15 TD's to just 2 INT's in 4 games. Manning was on pace to ridiculous, record setting numbers.

I'd rather rip off 15 yard chunks at a time by dominating the middle of the field than bringing in a guy who may or may not be motivated enough to catch a deep one every once and a while.

well we will just have to see what happens. im sure the polians are on top of it and manning prolly has a little say also. i agree with what your saying... but i just dont think they will all stay healthy the whole season. why not bring him in and still play the middle of the field with a deep threat every so often. then you also have a little insurance. just my opinion. if they do sign another receiver, the colts must see it that way too. if they dont, then they must see it your way.

  5. And we aren't working to improve? You do know that the Patriots have been worse than us - even in the playoffs - the last 6 years, right?

Moss wouldn't "stretch the field" for more than his first 4-5 games during the season. After that, defenses get a beat on him with plenty of game film to reference, and then he'd become a liability: capable only of performing one route.

i agree with what your saying on moss.(dont get me wrong) but if we just used him sparingly, i think it would be a different story. when we played the titans last year at lucas, they didnt play moss too much. but i remember 1 play that they sent him in for...he made an AWESOME leaping catch for a first down right in front of me. i remember thinking that if we had him, and just used him on certain situations...i thought he could be a huge asset for us! the guy looked like he caught the ball about 2 feet over our defender. he is 1 of those guys that if you sent him in, defenses would KNOW that he has to be fully covered. i know he prolly wouldnt start for us BUT i would love to have him on the team! he could really spread out the defense with as many weapons as we have. just my opinion

  6. First of all Joe Flaco is a very good QB, and Garcons "true" spot is not a slot receiver. the colts havent played 1 preseason game yet and on paper they are filled with depth at the WR position. UNTIL someone gets hurt TJ is a waste of space because the colts have better and younger talents on their roster. WR position is not a need for the colts just like Irsay said, get it through your heads ppl.

man im really sorry. I have been tryin all night to get it through my head like you said. I just cant get it in there. I will keep trying though, so bare with me.
  7. huuuuuuh????? ive put in 13 years of watching peyton and offense go out and run the same offense over and over. i can honestly say i know the offense just as good as any opposing team......do i deserve 2MILLION DOLLARS???? lol obviously im jk but seriously ....if he doesn't step on the field...hes worth nothing to an organization unless hes a coach, and thats why coaches get paid substantially less.

Your preachin to the choir bro! I am definetly 1 that believes we should bring in a 5th receiver now for our injury prone recievers, while there is still available free agents. I was just stating that if we brought in another guy that i didnt think it would be over a 2 million bonus. Rather, i think it would be because we have 1 of the best passers of all time! If u are gonna shore up a position, i would shore up our bread and butter. Defense is just as important and i definetly believe we need help in the secondary! But 2 me, we win games because are quarterback is better than our opponents. That being said...(although i like blair white) i would bring in an experienced veteran now while they are still available.

  8. My best argument? I think all of my points have solid gold. If there is player who most at risk, gonzo is the one. His roster bonus that Phil b pointed to and his injury history make him vulnerable.

That is why if this house thing has legs it will be at someones expense - likely ag

im not saying, that i think what your saying, isnt true. because i have no idea. it very well could be. i just find it very hard to believe that the colts would cut a healthy gonzo over a 2 million dollar roster bonus. the time he has put in with peyton learning precise routes and knowing the play book cover to cover to me would be more valuable than 2 million dollars. i think he finishes out the year on the team unless he gets put on pup.

  9. I really cant understand why some of you dont want to bring in another veteren wide receiver. I just keep going back to last year with the WR injuries. man, do i not wanna be in that position again!! Of course, if we all new that the receivers we have are all gonna stay healthy....then yeah, we dont need anyone. But, the reality is we dont know whats gonna happen with collie, gonzo, clark etc.. Me personally , i would rather have moss. But there has to be some reason that no one has offered him a deal he cant refuse. Maybe its some type of (inside) knowledge or maybe GM's think he is more trouble than he is worth. i just know they have more info on the situation than me or most anyone else. i still think he would be an excellent target in our redzone offense. (just my opinion) But, one thing i will say about housh... he is the only "non colt" WR that i ever heard peyton manning publicly say that he had chemistry with. They actually both said that about each other. I think it was from a probowl that they played together in. Someone mentioned that manning wanted TJ to sign here instead of seattle and i can believe that after how i heard they admired and liked playing with each other. So, if housh comes... i will be happier than remaining "status quo." Although, like i said, personally i would rather have Moss. If the Polians know something i dont, than i would take Houshmanzahdeh. Im also sure peyton knows who he wants to play with and its his call before ANY of ours! so if the colts "DO" or "DO NOT" take on a receiver....im sure peyton will have a hand in it! This is all just my opinion.

  10. This topic is spiraling out of control. Our team from all looks and sounds, short a CB (I agree with this, and only this) is a Super Bowl team. From all reviews, as biased as they are from various in-state sources, our new additions/rookies/ and vets are absolutely tearing Anderson up.

To those who think we need a "burner". Being an NFL receiver has absolutely nothing, and let me repeat, NOTHING, to do with speed. Do you need it? Sure, but do you need a 4.3 40? Not even close. What makes our receivers so talented is what many teams lack. We are precise route runners in a system dependant upon timing. If you can shake yourself even a foot free off the line, or run a crisp out, you're going to beat the man even if you run a 4.7 and he runs a 4.30. The difference between a 4.7 and a 4.5 is a body lean, that much time difference. It is an instant reflex click-click of a stopwatch. Don't be so dependant on speed when it isn't the backbreaker. Stop spending so much time listening to has-been players who say it is all about speed or some scouts/media who rely too heavily upon that. Ask any GM, is it a factor? Sure. Will it be the end game? Not at all. (Pierre runs in that 4.5 range... he is fast, but we're not talking "burner" fast)Yet, he seems to blow the top off a lot of coverages.

We do not need Randy. I was intrigued also, I will not lie to any of you. However, as camp is unfolding, we HAVE every tool we need and the locker room is sound. Randy Moss is not the answer and possesses not attribute other than height that is better than ANY of our current starting receivers. Keep what we have, we made a splash, find a corner, see you at the Super Bowl.

i agree with you man 100%. i think the receivers we have (if they stay healthy) can absolutely take us to the superbowl! i just worry that if collie gets concussion symptoms after his first couple of hard hits..we will already be down 1 receiver. chances are gonzales will stay healthy this year but...you never know. my point is just that if we have the cap space(which, for this year it looks like we do) why not bring randy on JUST IN CASE we have a receiver get injured. in the case of the colts..passing is our strongest suit.i dont want 2 be in the same situation at the end of the year or during playoffs, that we were in last year. i think carrying 5th receiver (besides white, he is good, but inexperienced) would be a smart move on the colts part and randy has the type of size and experience down the road that i think could help us if we needed it. why take a chance on letting another team bring him out of retirement, lets go get him. AND i do agree with you that a CB is #1 priority also!! GO COLTS!

  11. cost of signing randy moss to a one year deal....3 to 5 million (im not sure) cost of colts winning another superbowl.....PRICELESS!! hopefully jim you are reading this. #1 if the injury bug hits us at receiver this year, like last year...i dont want to be caught in the same situation. #2 yes all of our receivers are extremely talented but, we dont have a 6'4" redzone target. #3 i think it would bring a sense of excitement to the city and to the team that would give us ALL a boost. #4 if we were to win a superbowl with randy, after he didnt win one in new england....well lets just say i think that would be good for peyton and the team!! cmon jim, roll the dice and sign up randy! p.s. i think you are the best and coolest owner in the league. GO COLTS!!!!!!
