  1. I play a sport that takes incredible balance, coordination and toughness. I have been to the upper echelon of the sport and know the level it takes to play there.

Now I'm old and broken down and playing with the local amateurs for fun. Sitting in a locker room listening to these "amateurs" talk about players I know and respect is painful. "He sucks", "he's a wussy", "his daddy got him a spot on the team", etc, etc.

My point here is that many of the players the "amateurs" believe are trash, are full of all the traits that add up to winning at the professional level. While I appreciate the freedoms of the 1st Amendment, I don't take the opinions/critiques/whining of "amateurs" very seriously and for good reason.

If you were to meet these players, interview them and quiz them on everything important to you, I think you would have a different ranking than what is being thrown around in the media.

I realize nobody likes being told that their opinion mean very little, but let's be real here. Our opinions mean absolutely zero to the professionals.

I enjoy reading comments on this forum, but I feel like I'm in a locker room full of amateurs squawking about things that aren't going to make our team better.

  2. I'll take a shot -

"I would rather listen to fish flatulate than listen to these whale-sized egos attempt original thoughts on topics that have been devoid of life for months."

Hopefully this quote passes the audition, if not I will shut up and just look forward to the draft.

FYI - I can read fish bubbles like tea leaves and they're saying "take Nelson and begin the team transformation to a tougher, grittier style of football".

I might be off by a bubble or two, but I'm thinking goodbye to the "finesse football" reputation we seem to have nationally.

  3. Manning

    Harrison

    James

    Glenn

    Saturday

    Freeney

    Mathis

    Wayne

    Sanders

    Vinatieri

My 10 are all players who you didn't have to worry about winning the little battles that their position demanded. I'd also add that these players acted with humility when they won and gave credit to the better team when they didn't. And no Peyton didn't throw the linemen under the bus that one time after a big loss in the playoffs.

Doyle isn't a problem for irsay.   But he is so unprofessional it's embarrassing

Our professional football team is what is embarrassing and unprofessional. You think Frank Gore will have anything good to say about anyone when he leaves. He bought into the idea that the Colts were a piece or two away from winning it all. Now look at us! Doyle is right on.

  5. Once Pagano is fired and the media puts their story together it is going to look like a highlight reel of boneheaded coaching decisions and gaudy facts like being outscored 85-22 in 4th quarters or being ranked 32nd in the 32 team league in various defensive categories.

That's because the offensive line was so bad.

I'll grant you that, but it seems like too many throws aren't accurate enough. Which in turn makes it hard to see good/great things from the guys trying to make it as receivers.

  7. Even with Luck we will lose 2-3 extra games based on coaching alone. I swear Richard Simmons could charge up a team more than Coach Pagano. He seems to be a raw-raw guy, but nobody seems to be inspired by it. 9-7 with Luck playing every game.

  8. I realize the injuries/surgeries to Luck and Newton were different, but it sounds as though Cam has aggravated his repaired shoulder and now has to sit everything out. Would it be fair to say that the Colts have handled Andrew for the better since there is no indication that he has aggravated his surgically repaired shoulder? I am all for the "don't rush it" rehab process the Colts appear to be taking with our most important player. If I was a Carolina fan, I'd be more concerned about the QBs health moving forward.

  9. And this just in from the "rumblings hotline"...

When Luck misses those 6 games, Peyton has agreed to fill in at QB. With this "news" there are further rumblings that a quarterback controversy is brewing in Indy.

Also related... Matt Hasselbeck left the ESPN office early today and was spotted rumbling westward while juggling footballs singing "Here I come to save the day".

Mack definitely was ahead of Ferguson yesterday.I thought they both had impressive days yesterday. Pagano is probably just switching it up like he did with the offensive line. We won't know how impressive anyone really is until they prove it in preseason games.

Could it be that the decision makers wanted to showcase the draft picks for the 16,000 Colts fans in the building, rather than slotting players as if on a depth chart? It was awesome to see the draft picks in action. Not sure if yesterday's 1s, 2s and 3s meant all that much in the grand scheme of things.

  11. My general observations from practice today.

The new punter looked good and all the snaps were on the money. The new holder appears to have goods hands based on the rapid fire catch drill the coaches had him do. Vinny is the same, looked to be having a blast with the new guys and the fans.

The quarterbacks were pretty sloppy so the DBs had a lot of plays on the ball. The pick-6 was a bad throw in the direction of Dorsett, although I'm not sure who read things wrong. Quincy Wilson was tight on guys although I predict we will see some flags thrown his way as he adapts to the pro game. Hooker looked to be fast and smooth in his movements which should translate to a serious ball-hawk come game time.

I'm not well versed in watching lineman so I can't comment on them.

Overall I liked the tempo of practice and how much they got done in two hours.

I see what you're saying with Payton.  I loved watching him play.  Hope Mack works on his ball security...

At practice today the coach had a tether strap on the ball and while the RBs were doing agility drills, the coach was yanking on the string trying to put it out. Never saw Mack lose one, nor any other back for that matter.

  13. Gruden would be an upgrade over Pagano IMO.

If Chuck were to get fired after this year, I'd bet he would not be hired on tv as an expert analyst. Now I do believe he loves football and loves the players he coaches, and would totally have their backs if trapped in a foxhole together. He just doesn't seem to have the superior football knowledge to out-coach the opposing coach. Chuck is a wonderful human being and a passionate football guy, but he rarely has any tricks up his sleeve to out-fox opposing coaches. If Andrew cranks it up and pulls out the win for the team, it still is not an indication of superior coaching.

Gruden's time out of coaching has allowed him to really study what wins in the NFL. To say he's going to come back rusty or out-of-date is ridiculous IMO.

  14. Yeah TY. You tell them. Whatever it takes for motivation to show them they are totally off on their assessments. Now, who them or they are, that's a good question. Who really cares?

Personally I love the "Us against the World" mentality. Many teams have taken that approach to get to the top of the mountain and make all non-believers eat crow.

  15. Fellas I see your point with drops rates. However, when your QB sees you gag in an important situation, he is probably going to be less apt to throw your way in another equally important situation. Had Dorsett been targeted more in those situations, would his drop rate gotten worse?

Honestly, I think deep down he knows he was drafted way above where he deserved to be drafted and with that he has put pressure on himself to live up to his 1st round status. His problem is between his ears.

  16. I don't see anything special with him. Fast yes, but drops important balls.

When you are still working on your route running in your third year, you sound like a typical Grigson project player.

I hope I'm wrong, but he's in tough competition for playing time now and Ballard probably would have never picked him if he was our GM during the 2015 draft.
