I have observed that you are a good poster with good insight.,

However.......  You may be missing a bit on your evaluation of JB

A QB that is innacurate, slow to read and has very poor touch on intermediate and long routes is a very bad thing

If you look through my posts........ I WAS a JB supporter.

Have you noticed that JB is looking worse and worse?

The defensive coordinators have decent tape on JB for THIS YEAR and THIS offense.

They are changing up coverages at the last second, and JB just cant find the open man.

They HAVE figured out his game

Do you remember how good Drew Bledsoe was early in his career?  He was very good, early on.  Then the defense coordinators figured out that he was susceptable to poor performance if he had rush between the center and the guard.......

ALL the teams started running blitzes and stunts there.

Drew Bledsoe became average, even before he was hurt and TB replaced him

Some people are blaming the lack of WRs......  There ARE people that are open

An Accurate QB, with touch and quick release CAN beat the defense that is set up to stop the run.  Today......  Our running attack and great OL is negated, and quite frankly WASTED, because the box is getting stacked.

Five guys cant block 8 or in some cases 9.  There is NO FEAR for JB's passing.

A decent QB can pick apart an 8 man box.  A QB with slow release and slow recognition cannot

You are a loyal Colts fans, as am I.

But.......  Watching JB play is painful

It will be more and more painful as the defenses coordinators, now know how to beat him

I think JB is a decent guy, BUT.........  QB needs more than a decent guy.......

I truly hope that we take at least a try with another QB

You nailed it!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what is happening!!!!!!!!!!! Great post. Yes, we have to try and keep trying to do what is required. The team has regressed this year and its because of JB. This injury thing with JB is a bunch of crap along with less then desired WR's. Please Mr. Ersay do what has to be done. The team will never go anywhere with this guy.

I think the fans r really going to b disappointed next year.  I don't think they will draft a qb.  I think they r all in for JB the next 2 years . They will get all their receivers back next year and probably get him another wr or TE  early.

Another wide or TE! Why? JB would not throw the ball to them unless it was to late! JB is to timid. He's scared to fail. Therefore, we have to have another QB. If we don't, i believe it will be major mistake. Oh, for all of you JB hine kissers, if you don't like threads like this don't read them. I don't care what you dislike! If you can't see the weakness in JB then ....... WOW!

I know a lot has already been said about JB’s woes in the 4th quarter  I was wondering what most of you guys thought this stems from?  Is it play calling or just JB getting rattled?

I may be wrong but I think it’s a JB problem. If anyone remembers the year luck missed half the year, I believe we led the league in leads going into the 4th quarter. I used to put the blame squarely on Pagano and his predictable play calling, but now I’m not so sure.  I think some of it’s was pags,  but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that both coaches are having trouble with the 4th quarter and the main common denominator is JB.

If it is JB, what is his problem and is it fixable?  Are teams blitzing more later In the game when the tension is at its highest?

You are absolutely correct. I said as much in another thread. I just don't understand, they know what they have in JB. Decent back up / useless started. Try something different even if its not the answer. You got to try because doing the same gets you the same results. If you don't try you will never know.

yes it has, from starting off 5/2 and leading the div. and with a bad kicking game. Then go to 6/7 losing to bad or middle teams is just Wrong. This team stinks.

No i do not believe this team stinks. However, something is wrong with this team at this time. Don't know if its the players have lost the buy in with the coach's or maybe their fustrated with how the coach's are making decisions. I don't know the answers but some changes need to be made. I would start at the QB position. I believe we should go all in on a QB even if it took all our draft picks except the Washington pick this year and even some next year. You cannot win in the NFL consistently without an elite QB. JB is not an elite QB and will never be.

I don’t think this is on ballard. Everything that could go wrong has gone wromg. It’s been a comedy of errors.

We are close. We have been in every game this year with a chance to win in the 4th.

Your last statement sounds familiar. In 2017 we were close in alot of games but lost. So, what is the common denominator, JB started 15 games. He has not improved. JB is not the answer. If we stay with what we are doing look for more of the same.

Since Luck is only making a tad over 17 million this upcoming season against the cap and with the Colts most likely cutting loose a few older players, their is potentially a good chance that we can enter free agency with 50-60 million in cap space. If Dalvin Cook is there in Round 1, I hope we snag him and give Luck a true RB, but if not, I think we need to address the defense heavily and we can still grab a RB in rounds 2-4 (it's a deep RB draft)

But if the Colts want to contend and want to be buyers in free agency (most likely on defensive players) who are some of the guys that could potentially hit free agency that you guys would like to see here in Indianapolis in 2017. Just curious to see everyone's opinion since I haven't been keeping up with upcoming free agents.

    And go.

The answer to your question has already been answered! Mr. Irsay stated at the end of last year the team going forward will build primarily through the draft. No more big name free agents! Possibly, a signing or two of players that have upside for cheap. Remember when he said the team needs to get younger? Some of you arm chair GM's either can't comprehend what you read or dismiss it because you don't like it! This is what the man said! Believe it!

If I were owner, I'd sit down to hear what the regime has to say.   I would also express how unhappy I am with the offensive play calling, which only every now and again is any good, I would express how I question the in-game decision management, and I would very strongly express my utter dissatisfaction with the lack of defensive progress five years in.

Given the extensions handed out last year and given what I consider to be a very encouraging draft this past year, depending upon what Grigs and Pags have to say, I might give them the benefit of another year.   I would make it very clear, though, that 8-8 without Luck is one thing, but to now go 7-9 or 8-8 WITH Luck is an unacceptable regression.  Ergo, if things do not significantly improve in the 2017 season, then I will be looking to intervene to right the ship.

I would evaluate Grigson and Pagano independent of each other, though.  If one makes noticeable improvement, but one does not, them I would not necessarily be inclined to make wholesale changes just for the sake of change.

The sit down you suggest happened the end of last year. I believe it was decided going forward was the direction decided on. IMHO, you can throw out the years preceding this year. Bad drafts and or bad free agent signings were discussed then. So look at it as this being year one. We got off to a bad start but got better as the year progressed. This alone says retention of jobs. Besides possibly a running back, look for defense to be given the attention upcoming. Therefore, looking at this being our first year, i think we are heading in the right direction. If you start making wholesale changes then look for the team to get worse before it gets better. This firing everyone crap is disturbing!

Yes, our players suck.  However, a good DC can coach and implement schemes that allow the players to play to their strengths and help cover their weaknesses.  Have you watched these schemes?  They have the most predictable and vanilla D in the NFL.

Can you explain the current schemes utilized and how it could be utilized more to our advantage. Why are we more vanilla and more predictable? Do you think its because of our weak LB play and lack of pass rush?

Now I gotta sit here and watch Will Fuller blow up for Houston. Already has 5 catches, and we can't even get Dorsett more than 3 targets in a game.... we're turning Andrew Luck from the next Peyton Manning into the next Jeff George.... Irsay's gonna have some tough decisions to make after the season because I don't know if fans here will keep buying the seats if we return to our 80's & early 90's ways...

If fans stop buying tickets then and only then will we see any changes being made on this team!

Every analyst during the draft thought we were drafting Rhodes because we were in dire need of a CB and he was a sure thing. Only Grigson can mess that up. I'll never forget that.

LOL every analyst! Talking heads! Can't watch pregame or NFL talk shows anymore. Pure speculation and their know it all mentality! Disgusting!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Well, this Colts offense is offensive! Really! They come out and fall all over theirselves, They pass when the running game is clicking. They stutter and stumble till late in the game and then BAM!, they wake up and start playing. The offense is where the money is being spent. Therefore, it should be playing better! Sorry!, this is bad coaching.

Now, the defense is lacking play makers. Waited and waited and waited and waited for someone to make a big play this whole game. NOTHING! No turnovers! This is not a talented defense. ATTACK! baloney! They sit back and wait for the other team to make mistakes. This defense lacks playmakers and they don't play smart. Sorry!, this is NOT a good football team!

Unless Grigson has confidence in the new coach.

There seems to be this giant leap that folks are taking, that Grigson has some sort of personality disorder that leads him to want to make all of the decisions....just because that's who he is.

Maybe he just saw enough to think that Chuck was in over his head and had to step in..and Irsay agreed.

Now he and Irsay are eager to find a coach that will let him get back to GMing.

    That's another possibility.

I agree with this. I do believe Pagano is in over his head. However, I'm of the opinion, that people can get better at what they do provided their attitude is in the right place. In this case, I believe it is! I also think both Grigs and Pags are both learning on the job. As for personality, Mr. Irsay needs to have a little chat with both of them together. What dirty laundry comes from that will determine what he must do for the betterment of the team. Nobody on this forum or the reporters from the Indy Star paper are going to convince me what Grigs supposedly is reported to have been doing did not have the blessing of Mr. Irsay. It's beyond me that so many people on this forum are so quick to judge! Do we have issues? Yes! Let them sort it out! Our star player has been injured most of the season! What did you expect! Let them air out their differences and lets get on with life. Change is not always the best way!

  13. why does anyone have to fired? straighten out the differences and proceed on. On the other hand, if you fire one without the other, this could set the Colts back for a little while. I've got a thought I haven't read on here, retain Pags and give him the full reins. If he's any good, well how about that! If he fails, well how about that! Look people, Mr. Irsay created this mess and it's him that has to fix it or not! If my memory serves me well, I remember Polian making decisions regarding this team also. Anyone remember the decision regarding going for an undefeating season or resting players!

  14. no it's not how you get someone like Werner he wasn't the best player available when we picked that year it was Xavier Rhodes. why didn't we pick him that year huh? Guess Grigs didn't think we needed him since we had Toler and Vontae yet he will take a WR when we had TY AJ and Moncrief.

If you think our wide receiver core was and is so talented then I suggest you go back to last year and look at the AFCC game against New England!

  15. Hi nnjcoltsman! So glad you and your wife had a great time! I'm one of the two colt fans you talked to at the stadium. My wife and I ended up at the security office along with the couple that had the same tickets. Security said their tickets were valid and ours were fake. How they know this I don't know. Our tickets were scanned just like theirs but we were the ones who got escorted out of the stadium. We went to the Crowne plaza and found Stub Hub who after apologizing profusely issued us new tickets in the end zone section 125. We got to our seats about halfway through the 1st quarter. Like you, I have been a colts fan all my life and like you this was my dream trip to Indy to see the colts live. We were very disappointed with the results. We purchased our tickets in April 2015 and gave a lot of money for good seats but we had to settle for what was available. Also, stadium security was unconcerned about our dilemma. IMO the stadium should have a contingency plan in effect for this. Anyway, the people in downtown Indy were very friendly and we had a good time with the exception of the tickets.
