  1. I wont be saying anything that has not been said.

Good call on the 4th and 1 , wrong personnel. Cant do anything with the QB at that point. It is what it is, and we know how GM rolls. Why isn't Taylor or Moss in? I feel bad for Goodson, dropping that. Yeah, wasn't the greatest pass, but if it hits you in the hands you hopefully should be able to pull it in. Its a shame.....

Ballard seats probably pretty hot(better be), and if things don't turn next year, its time to be shown the door. We need more than just "adequate" results. He has plenty had PLENTY OF TIME.

I know its been said and talked about. Garner Minshew played this season for a starting spot next year on another team. Fine. He has bounced around for a reason. He is not the qb that will lead you to a championship.  He is perfect for what he did with the Colts this year and/ or any other team. Great back up , win some games, holds things down to the "A" team gets back in. Glad we had him, hopefully we can hang on to him, but if not, good luck. Like I mentioned and described , he is what he is.

AR showed promise. To bad he was hurt and missed the season. This next season will still be year 1 for him as far as learning and experience. Hopefully he can be on a fast track and stay healthy. Staying injury free and on the field is priority one, If that does not happen......we are in trouble.

Before the season if I would have been told we would have been 9-8 with AR or with GM. I would have taken it. Having a rookie guide you to that or that back up, I think that's somewhat acceptable.

At times this team looked better than that , and below that other times . So I guess that's what you get a .500ish winning percentage.

"Wait until next year1".......that ones getting old and worn out.

  2. This has always been my opinion of him....overrated . Solid for sure, but he liked to play the underdog card . That got old real quick. Even if he did not have the injuries, I don't think he would ever have made elite status. Which in  his mind he thought he was. He had flashes of brilliance throughout his carrier , but it was never consistent. Does not surprise me he comes out and does this. Cant point the finger at yourself! Gotta blame someone else for your shortcomings. Never sold on the hype he got.

I must be the only person who saw it this way, but I didn't see a replay of Speed's non-call that showed definitive PI.  You can't see what EJ's doing with his back arm.  You see EJ swiping at the ball with his left hand, and after the ball goes by you see Flowers whip around and flail his arms.  He tried to sell it, but I'm not convinced EJ interfered.  Everyone seems to admit it was a bad non-call, but I'm not even sure it was PI at all...

    Agree.

That type of play/coverage tactic seems to be pretty commonplace in the  NFL DB's arsenal.

  4.

Like most have mentioned , it starts with the QB. Andrew with his talent hid many deficiencies and literally carried this team on his back most of the time he was here and made up for what the Colts were lacking.  The only reason the Colts had the record they did for his first 3 season was because of him, plain and simple. I was not expecting JB to be(AL) that by any means, but maybe a little more productive and consistent. Did his injury hamper him, TY being out, other factors....who knows. That's up to the folks at 56th street to figure out
I think most of us have been spoiled for about 20 yrs with PM and AL, and expectations on this forum seem to be high as far as having another "elite" QB. I can understand that, but reality needs to set in. There have been franchises for decade(s) who struggle in having  and finding " that" QB to lead the franchise for multiple seasons. Some muddle in mediocrity or just above, in that position too. As long as the Colts been here in Indy, from my recollection, they stumbled around looking for a long term answer, until 1998.

I can think of very few teams that had an upper echelon  QB and went right into another. Colts, Packers, 49ers, maybe a few others I could be missing, but those come to mind. Do we need a top 10 qb? Sure, a lot of teams do. Would we be happy with a middle of the pack, efficient , Jim Harbaugh type QB with a very good supporting cast?

Maybe there is to much emphasis here in Indy/this site  on having that "elite" one. There is nothing wrong to having that expectations, but like I mentioned there is a reality out there and we have to deal with it no matter what it is, good or bad. We have been spoiled for a long time...… and it was great.!

  5. I thought he did real well. Lets just take it day by day and not get to high or to low.

Lotsa ball to be played yet. I was not to worried to begin with . It was just more of the unknown.

That 17 season was an anomaly that he had on a team with an awful o line, being a 2nd yr with little experience, and being thrown into a different system. Totally unfair to judge him from that.

It will be interesting to see how he fairs and the rest of the team against the upper brass teams and defenses in the league. Jacksonville has a good D.

  6. Folks need to be patient. Some really good objective posts assessing JB, others(arm chair GM's)are  to quick to pass judgement on where he is at and ready to toss him aside and draft someone else. Unreal. Not every franchise is blessed with a top tier QB....this team had one in PM and AL....some fans get spoiled and expect to much at this point in his young career. Chris Ballard and Frank have their jobs for certain reasons. They no more than any of us ever would.

Relax for now, no reason to panic at this point.

He was 6th in the league last year having missed two games. His yard per attempt was second only to Zeke Elliot. He had a 150 yard  second half against one of the best D’s in the league. Not sure what’s left to buy into

Well put. Not sure why there are still doubters.

  8. Wow...not sure I can read 14 pages of this! Got the gist of it from the first couple of pages and random post here and there.

Sounds like a win win for both sides.

I feel positive for him. Had limited play in NE, but seem to be solid and was productive.

Came here, and a few days later was starting and playing with a dreadful O line. We all know how that went.

I am not to worried . He has had plenty of time during this off season during training camp , practices and etc to get into a rhythm and gel with the starters. He has gotten all the reps. Not sitting behind anyone. I am sure the staff has been preparing for a scenario going into the season with him. They have they're jobs for a reason, and they know a heck of a lot more than me and all of the other arm chair qb's,coaches GM's and etc...

Will there be bumps in the road? You bethcha. Give it time.  This is a real good team surrounding him and this coaching staff proved last year they know what they are doing.

I liked what he said during his locker room interview.

"I don’t want someone bull*******g on my behalf,"

    Lets go Jacoby!!!

  9. https://nypost.com/2019/09/08/why-jacoby-brissett-has-a-big-backer-in-bill-parcells/

Two years ago, when the Colts acquired quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Patriots in a trade, I spoke to Bill Parcells about it, and he gushed about Brissett. He compared the QB to Curtis Martin, Troy Brown and Willie McGinest — three of Belichick’s former players whose character he embraced as much if not more than their production on the field.

Parcells, 78 now, has known Brissett since he was 15 and playing high school ball in South Florida — not far from where the former Giants, Patriots and Jets coach spends his winters, in Jupiter. Parcells used to watch him play, then followed his college games at N.C. State and eventually became an unofficial adviser of his.

Parcells doesn’t toss figurative bouquets of flowers around on a whim, so his high praise of Brissett always was good enough for me, based on the respect I have for Parcells and his evaluation of people.

So now, with Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement on Aug. 24, Brissett is in a position to prove Parcells’ assessment true. The Colts are his team now.

“You never really know for sure until you see a player under the gun,’’ Parcells said at the time. “But I have a very high regard for this young man. He’s an awesome kid. He’s very bright. He has zero personal issues. He’s a very dedicated, committed guy.’’

Parcells, who says Brissett is like a son to him, is so emotionally invested in him that he’s preferred not to speak about him now, opting to let the kid play and grow.

The Colts, unlike so many NFL teams that are seemingly in constant search for a franchise quarterback, have been spoiled for more than 20 years. They had two quarterbacks who were No. 1-overall picks in their respective drafts — Peyton Manning in 1998 and Luck in 2012.

But with the surprise Luck retirement, the Colts now tread in unchartered waters as they open the season Sunday against the Chargers in Los Angeles.

“I know this about Jacoby: He will not flinch,” Colts general manager Chris Ballard told reporters this week.

It’s no accident that’s the Colts staved off trade offers for Brissett in the past two years. He just signed to a two-year, $30 million contract to stay with the Colts, which will seem like a bargain if he performs the way Parcells believes he will.

When Colts coach Frank Reich, a backup for most of his 13-year NFL career, sat down Brissett for a long talk after Luck’s retirement, he implored Brissett to be himself, not to try and be like Luck.

The Colts were 4-11 with Brissett as the starter in 2017 with Luck was out with a shoulder injury. But the Colts had a bad team around him then. Brissett was 276-of-469 for 3,098 yards, 13 touchdowns and seven interceptions and he was sacked an NFL-high 52 times.

The Colts’ rebuilt offensive line allowed an NFL-low 18 sacks last season. There are better skill position players around him and a better defense.

“Jacoby is going to be Jacoby,” tight end Eric Ebron told reporters this week. “He’s business on the field, in our meetings. He’s not changing his personality [as the starter], and that’s what you want. You don’t want somebody trying to be somebody they’re truly not.”

The game is not a joke to the players. Having a pro bowl on their resume does give them bargaining chips to get paid in future contracts. That is why players have clauses in their contracts to be paid for playing in a pro bowl. There are 1696 active players in the NFL so if a players gets voted into the pro bowl it does mean something to them.

Just because you choose not to watch it does not mean they are going to do away with it.

Agree to disagree....sorry but the "game" itself is a joke. I get what your saying about all the extras, thats cool, but come on...the game is worthless.

  11. 18 hours ago, crazycolt1 said:

I understand your point of view but a lot of these players have money involved. Some of their contracts pay bonuses if they make the pro bowl. I would think they would have to play the game to get their money.

It's been a long time since players played hard in a pro bowl. They have as much chance tripping over their cat and getting injured than in a pro bowl game.

The game is a joke, and I forgot they are underpaid so I guess the better go then huh?:D

Not sure why they even bother with it. I cant remember  the last time I ever watched one.

So much Luck Bashing (which happens after every loss) that it cannot be addressed in every thread. I wonder if those who complain ever go back and watch the game film to see what happened as opposed to "relying" on what you thought you saw while you were upset with the play results. Go back and look at the game and then tell me I am wrong.

Let’s look at the pass plays

    1st Series

3rd and 3 Luck hits Ebron in the stomach, and he drops the ball. (Luck’s fault Ebron DROPPED the ball?)

    2nd Series

1st and 10 the ball is batted down because KC defender grabbed Nelsons face mask (a serious penalty) shoving his head back and forced himself on top of Luck, this trend of illegal hands to the face would continue all day).

2nd and 10 batted down, again hands to fact forcing the Oline to retreat into Luck

3rd and 10 Pass to Pascal who could not get any separation and the defender knocked the ball away. (Lucks fault for lack of separation?)

    3rd Series

2nd and 16 Pass to Hilton 10 Years

3rd and 6 Pass to Ebron who instead of continuing to run stops short of the first down marker. A play that should have gone for 8 yards goes for only 5 (Luck’s Fault Ebron stopped running?)

    4th Series

    1st and 10 Pass Ebron 21 Yards

    1st and 10 Pass Inman 12 Yards

    1st and 10 Pass Ebron 4 Yards

    2nd and 6 Pass Rodgers 11 Yards

    1st and 10 Pas Inman 14 Yards

1st and 10 Luck on a nine-yard scramble (Of that’s right Luck never ran this game)

    MISSED FIELD GOAL

That is the First Half 4 possessions. Two of those ended because the TE either dropped the ball or failed to run to the first down line. One ended when the clock ran out, and we missed a FG. Only one legitimate stop by KC. Several hands to the face penalties were not called.

    2nd HALF

    1st Series

1st and 10 4 yard pass to Rodgers

2nd and 6 10 yard pass to Inman

1st and 10 Ebron DROPS 5 yard Pass

2nd and 10 Roger DROPS 9 yard Pass

3rd and 10 Pass in the flat to Rodgers are short, looks that ball slipped. Rodgers was not getting the first down even with a good pass

    2nd Series

1st and 10 20 yard pass to Inman

Note Mack with the big run called back by a holding on Smith that DID NOT OCCUR.

2nd and 17  11 yard pass to Hilton

3rd and 6 Luck was sacked. Glow allowed the DT to come straight for an uncontested sack.

    3rd Series (Following fumble recovery)

1st and 10 Bare Miss to Hilton (Several Hands to face on linemen)

2nd and 10 Strip sack. Our entire Offensive line collapsed.

    4th Series

2nd and 7 Luck Scambles for 7 yards and a 1st Down (Running Again)

1st and 10 Incomplete pass to Hilton who was covered

2nd and 15 Ball batted down (once again big push with hand to face and face mask, you can see the neck of O-line pushed back as far as possible “very dangerous”)

3rd and 15 Pass to Hilton would have been first down. Miscommunication Hilton turned inside, and Luck threw outside.

    5th Series

1st and 10 Luck threw the ball away as he was being sacked.

2nd and 10 Luck throws the ball short as he is falling backward because of Pass Rush.

    (Run for first down)

1st and 10 Throws a perfect ball to Ebron who fails to come back for the ball and the defender “catches up” if Ebron comes back to ball it is either a catch or interference. Luck could not throw the ball in front of Eborn as KC has a safety over  the top. Throw the ball out in front and its intercepted.

3rd and 9 Ball batted down. Once again blatant hands to the face to force guards backward. (I am sure Colts will file a complaint with the league)

4th and 9 Pass to Rodgers for 12 yards

1st and 10 Pass to Hilton for 29-yard Touchdown Great Throw and Catch.

    6th Series

2nd and 1 Pass to Hilton for 10 yards

1st and 10 Pass to Ebron for 4 yards

2nd and 6 Pass to Ebron for 17 yards

1st and 10 Pass to Rodgers 3 yards

2nd and 7 Pass of 25 years to Fountain who DROPPED THE BALL.

In reviewing the film, I do not see anywhere that Luck played poorly. He never held the ball too long or had a noodle arm. The Offensive line blocking in the middle G-C-G was ineffective KC interior made an immediate push. We were pretty good with blocking the edges, but Luck could not step up in the pocket which is what happened on the strip sack.  How did our G-C-G combination that had been so good suddenly fail? It is because of KC deliberately, in my opinion, decided to go hands the face once they realized the refs were not going to call the penalty. We could not stop the rush when KC could grab the facemask. This made a huge impact on the outcome of the game.

The second problem was drops. We had a least 4 Drops.

I do not know of anything else Andrew Luck could have done in this game. He was under constant pressure. His passes were on target except for the one slip. He ran for 2 first downs. He threw a TD pass to Hilton and one to Fountain that he dropped. He leads us down the field to a short FG with time expiring, and the kick was missed.

All told that is 17 points plus the TD that’s 24 and we are in the game despite the other drops and the inability to protect.

I just do not understand people complaining about Luck not playing well. That is just false.

Mahomes missed quite a few throws, and many of them from the pocket.  When the NFL learns how to control his playground antics, he'll come down to earth.  Having Tyreek Hill as a threat helps too.

Brady misses about one throw per game.

Agree. It was the same thing with Kaepernick. He was the hot new sexy qb and eventually the rest of the NFL got wise to his play and figured it out.

Once they got into the playoffs and rolled the Texans, I thought they had a real good shot too.
