And neither has your philosophy. You all have been hyping up colossal dissapointments like Miami, Philly, Cincinnatti, Jacksonville, Etc.....

I am critical of the organization when I feel they deserve it. The last play call of the year, Frank Reich, etc.

And I praise them when they deserve it. You know, because I think about what actually happened and not some fantasy world I created for myself, where all my personal opinions result in success. Its not hard to be objective and fair.

You on the other hand are pretty consistently posting the same thing 1000 different ways. There is zero nuance to your opinions. Its all Ballard hate, all the time.

His decisions last year absolutely worked. The team was drastically improved from the year before. But you would never acknowledge it. So why does your opinion matter if you cant be the least bit honest with yourself?

The only colossal disappointment in this list is Jax. The rest you mentioned are hands down miles better than this team where it currently stands. That Philly team is one year removed from a super bowl which they came minutes away from winning and they are a disappointment? Miami? Cincy? Dude, for real?

This team arguably was improved sure but to what degree? as we were playing a third place schedule of teams I believe. The only real good win was against Baltimore, and that really doesn't count because the Colts seem to ALWAYS beat the ravens in Baltimore.

I'm glad you are a fan but where you say I'm one-sided in my viewpoints of this team, the same can be said for you, only opposite.

This team is NOT close to really competing the way it should be. Yes, they can compete in a league that had more backup QB's playing this year, including us, than any other year in the history of the league I think, but that does not mean that we drastically improved as much as you think we did. If we did drastically improve, we still would not be sitting here needing to fill gaping holes at premium spots like WR, CB, and Edge Rusher. These positions, along with QB, have been void of this team with Ballard at the helm and it is why as the writer says, we have zero division titles and only 1 playoff win in 8 years now. In NFL terms, that's a long time without a sniff. Even the hapless commanders won a division title a couple years back, and they just cleaned their entire house. < Seriously, think about that a moment.

I think it's time to take the glasses off or in your case, put them on, because clearly you can't see what's right in front of your face... :funny:

no she prolly means halliburton of the pacers (the clear cut star of the franchise)

Oh gotcha. I'm not a pacers or basketball fan so that's probably right. there were other parts of the article I left out where she was comparing colts to pacers. Sorry, for the confusion, but you got it

First:  What does this mean? If you believe you have your Haliburton on the roster in Anthony Richardson.

Being conservative doesn't mean the solution is to take a big swing

Just direct more of the capital to where it should go, that's all.  Its possible to be disciplined about it.

I think she probably meant Howitzer... ie Cannon arm I'm guessing

Thats an organizational philosophy. All you complainers act like we were bringing in free agents before Ballard got here. We have never done that.

In reality, Ballard has been more active and made better decisions in free agency than any other GM we have ever had. Much better. Much more active.

Stop looking for things that confirm your feelings and try actually looking at evidence.

First of all, the FA aspect is only one part of it. So it is you my friend who are clearly looking to confirm your feelings. Regardless of whether we agree or disagree with what you call organizational philosophy, as the writer points out, it has not worked. See "results" as the key here.

As far as Ballard's decisions goes, again, can't really say they have been great when the results show otherwise.

I'm in agreement that we need to change up the way we've been drafting.  Most of Ballard's tenure, we've traded back and got more picks.  But what we wind up with are "more guys, but guys that are pretty good but not rare air".  At this time, I'd rather have "fewer guys, but high quality".

If Nabers, Odunze, or Bowers fell to #15, I'd take him.  I'd only trade back if non of those three fell to us.

    Exactly. I concur. :hat:

  6. The only reason Ballard would trade back would be if:

    A) No teams are interested in trading with the Colts so the Colts can move into the 7-12 range.

I still think the pick will be for a WR or Bowers if there is a severe run on QB's and Tackles, and if we can get into the range I mentioned.

Although I want a WR1, I would be fine with Bowers as he is going to be a game changer at that position. I know most would say that we already have so many TE's. I agree. They are a plethora of "jag" guys though. Colts have eliminated one (Ogletree), now they need to dump Granson and Cox and Woods if he cannot get healthy. Keep Mallory and go after Bowers. Granson they might keep in case Bowers is unattainable.

This team can ill afford to keep grabbing guys at premium positions that are projects in premium rounds or trading back to gain more picks from premium round slots. <This strategy, although habitual and normally predictable, has not worked.

To my bolded, my meaning here is that every off-season we sit here and need CB's, Edge Rushers, WR's, and Lineman who are PREMIUM STARTERS/TALENTED, not just guys forced to start, and every year Ballard has traded back and traded back again, and it has not brought Bonafide starter results. It has not worked. It's time to change that strategy.

At #15, we trade up, use that pick to acquire a player, or stay at 15.

You haven't paid attention to how often he was open this year.

    Dude, come on...

Did you even read my response to the moderator that you laughed emoji at?

I said IF Pierce has been open all year as clearly you and others are quick to point out then why has he not been screaming this from the top of the luc? Keyshawn Johnson style. Throw me the damn ball!!

And if you play advocate and say "Maybe he has been" then clearly there is another issue then as he has not gotten the ball/chances consistently enough and NOW, he's on the verge of not even having a GameDay spot, much less a game plan possibility. Unless you think the Colts are going to utilize 4 reciever sets exclusively next year.

You or no one else here have any idea what is being discussed behind closed doors.   You don't like Pierce and never liked the pick.   You look at everything said about him in a negative light.  It's tired honestly.

Dude are you being serious right now?

He is currently being projected as a WR4 on this roster in 2024 if he is lucky. Based on the Colts potentially going after or drafting a true WR1. If he is complaining behind closed doors, it's about not having enough cream for Steichen's coffee.

If Pierce keeps this trajectory, soon, the only thing he will be blocking is traffic so old ladies can cross the street.

Exactly. People have some weird interpretations of Ballard's comments on character, IMO.

There are reports that almost every team viewed Pickens as a first round talent, but almost every team had serious questions about his personality, and other things. The Steelers have had good results with mercurial receivers in the past, but in just the last two seasons, they've had some discouraging situations with really talented guys that just have bad attitudes. The issues with Pickens character showed up a couple weeks ago, when he decided not to block for his teammate on a potential TD play.

Meanwhile, Pierce gets one target today (officially; another got wiped out by penalty), generally gets overlooked in the gameplan and by the QB, IMO. And even last week, with Pittman out, he didn't get the Pittman role on game day. Yet he's never complained. Even Pittman was in his feelings earlier this year, which is way out of character for him. And then today, late in the game, Pierce is completely engaged and blocking for Pittman on a smoke screen. This is a play that could easily be called for Pierce to get the target, but it ALWAYS goes to Pittman. And Pierce just does his job.

And that's an example of what "football character" is really about.

Ok and? All these guys get paid a ransomed to play a game. Why wouldn't he do his job? I don't view doing your job high character. I view that as smart. Keep doing your job, keep getting paid. Not complaining about getting the targets on a team void of playmakers is not high character either, it's dumb or if it is high character, I personally don't want that from my receivers. I want my receiver to read the room and if he is so wide open every week and not being factored in by QB, Coach, or whoever/whatever then I want him to address it/complain about it behind the scenes and then publicly if need be until he gets the ball or becomes a substantial part of the gameplan.

I mean look at it in real time right now. We have a possible $$ dilemma with Pitt. Would it be easier to make that decision if Pierce had been more adamant about getting the ball and possibly gained really good results for half a season or more? Showed promise maybe other than blocking and being a good teammate?

I mean he could have flopped too, but personally I'm over this High Character crap. I don't want Alex Hernandez guys or even guys that lose their temper with their chicks, but I certainly don't want my receivers to not give a hoot about not getting targets or just happy with small gameday roles other than blocking for other guys. If that is who Pierce turns out to be then clearly, I was right the entire time. He's a bum and can take a walk because he's money NOT well spent.

If Courtland Sutton is let go to FA, getting him would be good enough, while signing Pittman too. Or Aiyuk.. there are such tier 2 WRs, who could operate at a very high level that Colts don't have right now.

As for getting Elite WR1 talent, drafting that guy is probably the right choice and you get to have him in rookie deal. It's as important as having QB in rookie deals these days, as these guys would demand close to 30 million a year later.

I agree about drafting one. I think that's the way to go at this point. Just have to hope they focus and get the right guy.

Hall of famer no  but he was definitely a WR1.

So what's a WR1 then? If it isn't someone who can make explosive plays, someone who makes the tough catches, not a perennial 1000 yard reciever, or someone who has to be game planned for then what is a WR1?

You honestly believe Hilton is comparable to the likes of Chase, Hill, Jefferson, Adams, Hopkins in his prime, Brown, and Diggs to name a few?

Hilton is more like Higgins and/or Waddle.

They can trade back and build their team and be in a similar situation as the Bears with a better team for a rookie to walk into....

    Opinions vary

    Appreciate the read and comments

My bad on Frank Smith. I really thought you were speaking of Arthur Smith. I did not know of a Frank Smith.

If someone who is explosive isn't wr1 material, and someone who can get the tough first downs/ over 100 catches a year isnt WR1 material, then who is outside of someone heading into the hall of fame?

TY Hilton WAS NOT a WR1. What are you smoking? Ha!!

He was a number 1 with us, a 2 or a slot on any other team.

There's truth to this, but the Bears have a history of making terrible decisions regarding their offense.

It's true Fields hasn't had any continuity and I may be too hard on him. The question is - have they already ruined Fields though? Is it better to cut bait and start over - new OC and staff plus new rookie QB? (this also means a contract reset before a possible big payday)

I'm thinking Fields gets traded to the Falcons, which is a very smart move by both teams. Instantly makes the Falcons Bonafide contenders in the south.

Overall like CB I built through the trenches with this draft.

Jer'Zhan Newton should make a immediate impact and help bring continued pressure and run stopping when either Grover or Buckner is off the field.

Found a replacement for Ryan Kelly who has ton of experience. Probably will try Zak Zinter out at RT first to see if we have a future replacement for Braden Smith who was also a guard in college, swing tackle or just another guard.

We got a defense weapon with Cooper who can take a few snaps at Leo as well as LB

Jermaine Burton can line-up everywhere and his ability to separate deep should allow AR to throw some moon balls

Johnny Willson will be a project converting him into a TE. Right now he's a big slot guy similar to Josh Reynolds

Dwight McGlothern is a good zone coverage CB who isn't afraid to jump a route for better or worse

Rasheen Ali is a guy I want in camp. RBs can be found and picked up but I don't want to risk losing him to UDFA.

As always let me know what you would do differently...

    This is absolutely terrible.

No way Washington trades out of the 2nd pick and the Pats 1000% are taking a QB and zero chance the Colts take a DT at 18. This year I really think the Colts will trade up or stand put. This team needs immediate playmakers. Not a bunch of guys via a load of picks that they hope become playmakers.

Who is Jim Vrabel and Frank Smith?

Well then with your eyes you can surely see that it matters who is throwing the ball.  Nico Collin’s has been on the Texans for 3 years and most thought he was a bust until this year.  The quarterback matters!  Anyone could see this!

As was said earlier it seems a bunch here are prone to panic based on recency biases.  Do you know what Strouds numbers were if you take away 1 outstanding game this season?  3800 yards, 18 TD’s and 5 INT’s with losses to both the Panthers and Jets.  Not world beating numbers.

AR accounted for 7 TD’s in 10 quarters. No reason to not be hopeful.  I bet you thought Carson Wentz was a world beater too when he had similar numbers to Stroud his rookie year and the Eagles were winning?  How did that turn out?

So go gaslight somewhere else with this nonsense.

Again... It is you who is not seeing, nor are you listening either.

I gave you both lineups from a skill position view.

If you believe that Richardson will elevate Pittman (if he is here), Pierce, Downs, and whatever TE we currently have that we throw out there, to a dynamic playmaking position that Collins, Dell, and Schultz currently possess, you are the nonsense here.

There is no secret here that I cannot stand our WR's. Downs might be okay but as far as I'm concerned Pittman can walk and Pierce flat out sucks.

I have hated the WR picks from Ballard as well as his FA signings. <<Again this is no secret.

Stroud is very good, but I can't stand watching the league hit on these WR's like Dell and Puca and we keep drafting Smells and Puke-A...

And Collins? He is a WR1. Dude has speed and route running. Dynamic Playmaker. Last I looked every QB here since Pittman arrived is better than Davis Mills and Pittman has NEVER been the playmaker Collins has been this year. So, you're whole Collins has been there 3 years bull doesn't jibe.

The entire wideout room, sans Downs, needs to be overhauled majorly.

Who would you rather have? Pittman or Tee Higgins?

Based on what?  This season?  The fact that AR was injured?  Don’t talk in nonsensical absolutes.  No reason for us to not think the Colts are a better team and would have won this division.  Colts have work to do but Houston isn’t world beaters.  We proved it twice already this year.

Based on my eyes. I swear, it's like most of you can't see.

From a skill position point, they are proving to be miles above us, other than possibly RB.

Nico Collins and Tank Dell are far superior to Pittman and Pierce. More dynamic. Playmakers.

If you argue that you are just a homer who really can't see the obvious and if you think that AR would've made Pittman and Pierce the equivalent of Collins and Dell, you are delusional.
