    I wonder if any of you have "tried to get back to your previous selves" following ONE surgery - much less TWO - on an area of the body that is difficult to place a recovery timeline on?

    Didn't think so.

    I also feel that since the fans aren't paying Shaq's contract $$$ - then we should defer to those who see him in practice every single day - and - can appropriately assess his recovery and performance!!

    Best wishes to Shaq Leonard!!

    Sorry. I love the guy too, but he’s been injured for quite some time now and is no longer special. As so many have already said, he’s tentative on the field and has lost a couple of steps. The Colts need his salary next year to pay the guys who are producing. He’ll still get a great payday next year after he’s cut, but gone he will be.

    This is the perfect time for Ballard to do his Buckner thing.  Trade our 1st pick for a young starting player in a position of need.  Even if we have to add to the 1st pick I wouldn’t mind.  Surtain would be perfect.  A young WR to eventually play alongside AR.  Maybe an ER like Burns, Sweat or Chubb.  We are going to be facing some pretty good young quarterbacks in our division for a long time now.  So an experienced ER might be a good move.. We have our young quarterback as well.  So getting a difference maker at the deadline seems like a better use of our pick then hoping our 1st rd rookie is the answer.   That’s how I see it.

    I’d keep the first rounder and use it on a WR1 next year. I doubt anyone will pay a first round price for Surtain. A 2nd next year and maybe a 3rd in 2025? Now you’re talking.

    I don't think anybody would be interested, but I'd like to see them trade Leonard.

    He's an absolute shell of his former self.

    NObody is picking up that albatross of a contract. Even if the Colts eat a large chunk of it. Leonard is a Colt through this year. Next year, I suspect he’s gone….he’ll take that buyout check and hopefully ride off into a healthy retirement.

    I don’t understand the hate, but I do get the criticism. The criticism is that the Colts are weak at the premium positions and lack depth. Some of the issues the Colts had when Ballard inherited them are still issues. And the Colts have not been able to elevate themselves to be an elite team in the AFC in his time. It’s a fair criticism.

    How long has WR been an issue? How long have the Colts needed a number 1 corner (I like what I’ve seen from Brent’s though) and corner depth in general? When is the last time the Colts had an elite edge rusher? Rainman has looked good against non elite edge rushers but LT is also in question considering the precedent set by Castonzo. And it took awhile to find the QB of the future as well. The Colts strengths and weaknesses have remained relatively unchanged in his tenure so far.

    You can’t be an elite team when your elite players are at RB, LG, and MLB. I mean it’s nice to have, but those aren’t premium positions. It’s also fair to point towards the Day 1-2 misses, that aren’t outweighed by the hits. Grover Stewart (4th Round pick) does not cancel out missing on Basham, Banogu, Turray, and Lewis (great depth player tbh). Brent’s looking solid does not cancel out missing on Quincy and Rock. The only time you can overlook a miss is when it’s offset by another move that fixes the issue. Like the Eagles passing of Jefferson but then drafting Smith and trading for Brown.

    I think some of the Ballard criticism is fair.

    I believe this is a fair review of the Ballard record. Some very good decisions; some real stinkers. And a home run here and there.
    I also agree that the premium positions in today’s NFL have not been effectively addressed by Ballard. WR1; CB1;  LT; DE; and  until last draft, QB.
    And, because Ballard relies so heavily on the draft, his consistent trading back from decent spots in round 1 to pick up extra second rounders has had mixed results at best. You’d better be extra good at finding the hidden gems when you pass on players who could fill those premium positions you haven’t yet filled. Unfortunately, Ballard’s results in round 2 have often been disappointing.

    That said, he’s also had some big hits, and it does feel like the team is belatedly headed in a good direction. So the Ballard record is a mixed bag that still has a couple of chapters left to define it. He isn’t going anywhere this year; next season, however, the GM seat could get very warm if the Colts miss the playoffs once again.

    This is a stupid statement. Dude gets hit by a 285 pound man from behind. You expect him to be able to hold on to the ball when he’s not expecting it??

    Four fumbles on two games? That tuen into multiple points for the opposing team?Sorry…. That’s an issue.

    Tagged players really do get screwed then.   Salaries 5 years old don’t seem all that relevant to me.  Wonder if the union will stand against it next CB.  It only effects a handful of players, but it is certainly not in those few player’s’ interest.

    I expect the tag to be a big issue in the next contract. When the dust settles, I’m guessing that teams will only be able to tag a player once.

    As far as Jeudy I wonder if the injury to AR and Grover suspension will have Ballard forgetting about that.

    I’m thinking the same thing. I’d like them to upgrade any way they can, but that may now be wishful  thinking given the latest rash of bad luck.

    Mainly, the people that did not want us to draft AR are coming with everything imaginable to justify why we shouldn't have taken him. From the 4 games I have seen him play, he looked above average to me. My only worry is, can he stay healthy?

    And only time can tell us that. For now, the Colts are committed to AR and their partnership is there at least through next season…..

    Anyone expecting the Colts to draft another QB is wasting their time. They have their guy. Now they need to get him a #1 WR and shore up the D backfield.

    Browns = W (4-3)

    Saints = L (4-4)

    at Panthers = W (5-4)

    Patriots (at London) = W (6-4)

    Bucs = L (6-5)

    at Titans = W (7-5)

    at Bengals = L (7-6)

    Steelers = Tie (7-6-1)

    at Falcons = L (7-7-1)

    Raiders = W (8-7-1)

    Texans = W (9-7-1)

    Colts go 9-7-1 and make a Wildcard. I had 8-8-1 before the season but I also thought through 6 games we would be 2-4. I had us losing at Ravens and we won that one. We are 3-3 so we are a game ahead of schedule.

    For the people wanting a high draft pick as in top 10ish, you guys are going to be disappointed. Our schedule is too favorable for that.

    Just don’t see it. Browns beat the Niners, for starters. I see at most another 2-3 wins. Minshew was exposed on Sunday. A middling arm and he can be panicked into mistakes unfortunately. If they go 5-12, that’s a Top 10 pick. High enough to nab a top WR (just not Marv Jr).

  10. As the “trading for a true WR 1” discussion continues, one question you have to ask is if the Colts could truly afford a contract the size of, say, Davonte Adams’. Because nobody is trading a productive player unless they’re too expensive or about to become so. You know the Colts: pay your own. I expect them to pay Pittman and a few others who are coming due. So where do the $ come from if they want to go for broke on a WR1? I’m not seeing it.

    I don't know what it is about Jeudy that has people so interested. If you want a player that raises the quality of our WR room, I don't think he fits the bill. And he's guaranteed $13m in 2024.

    If we're going to trade for a veteran WR, it should be a guy who can dominate. If we can't take that kind of swing, just stick with who we have this year.

    After some thought  about this as well as knowing the current state of the Colts’ QB situation, I think your approach is the right way to go. Jeudy is an underperforming slacker who will want big $ come contract time and shouldn’t  get it from anyone. The Colts need a #1 receiver. He ain’t it. If they can snag a top receiver from a fire sale, do it. But make it a true improvement and not a hope and a prayer like Jeudy.

    He wasn’t even running that much today. Think that aaa only his second designed run.

    But it was a designed run for him where he was injured.  I’m simply saying that those plays can be dumped if necessary to keep him healthy and he’ll still be able to impact the game with his speed.

    AR just needs to slide more often imho. Play like a QB that can run, and only take a hit when necessary in order to lower the chances of injury. His injury was on a 1st and 10 play somewhere around the Colts 30 yd line. He could of slid and gotten 1-2 yd gain instead of the hit he took in an attempt to gain two more yards.

    He definitely should continue running no matter what though. AR has the arm and pocket mobility to be a great pocket passer eventually, but he is already an elite talent running the ball. If it turns out he just can't take hits at the rate of his first 5 games, then we will have to see where a less mobile pocket AR can do. But for now, you gotta use the legs and hope he learns how to take less hits when it's unnecessary.

    The Colts can design fewer run plays for AR and be just fine. His scrambling ability is what sets him apart IMO. He throws darts on the run and can also improvise with his speed when the play breaks down. That’s where he can be special. So if they have to run fewer RPOs to keep AR healthy, so what? He can still beat you with his arm and feet.

    Players hold out all the time, which is why I've never been anti-JT about this. But it's all about leverage.

    In this case, JT's documented injury gave him a little bit of cover. He could use his recovery as a shield, to a point. I think that's run out, but I'm not convinced he won't at least try.

    If he does, the Colts would file a grievance and probably prevail, and it could result in him not reaching free agency. But then the NFLPA gets involved, they'd sue the league and the Colts, and we're back in pre-2011 times again with contract disputes. I don't want to see any of that. I just want him to play the rest of the season, and then both sides figure out the contract stuff along the way.

    This is truly Taylor’s best option. Any more shenanigans and he’s permanently damaged his reputation. No one wants to give a guy feigning injury a large contract. Nor, I’m assuming, would the owners want to reward this tactic.
    But if JT shows up to play, and produces, his leverage gets dramatically better. You’d have to figure that he now gets this. Let’s hope.

    There were too many YAC on their winning TD. We needed to hold them to a FG.

    Very true. The Secondary is far from a finished product. Safeties especially. Let’s hope it gets better over the course of the season. I suspect it will.

  16. Let’s see what Pierce’s stats look like about 6 weeks from now. We’ll have a better picture of how he’s doing then. Just too early to make any judgment calls on him. As a reminder, Richardson has played two pro games. Two. Six games from now, the playbook should have expanded significantly and that should help Pierce.

  17. Lots of great stats in this thread. But in the end, whether Pitt is a 1 or a 1.5, he’s the Colts’ #1 guy and likely will be for the foreseeable future. He’ll get paid $20+m per year. That’s the market.
    I too would like to see a superstar, speed demon  WR on the field for the Colts….. maybe next year’s #1 pick. That’s a key missing piece for this Offense.  Having  that guy, Pittman, Downs and a healthy Jelani Woods would be a formidable group.

    That's where i stand too unless he is causing a problem in the locker room then i would just trade him for anything, cut bait, and move on.

    That would be a mistake I doubt the Colts would make. If Taylor won’t play or is causing problems you suspend him. What the Colts should NOT do is send the message that being a trouble maker or an unreasonable holdout gets rewarded. Trading Taylor for whatever you can get at this point is rewarding him. Ain’t happening.

    Contrast Taylor with Pittman. He’s in the same contractural situation, and is balling. He’ll get rewarded as he should. That’s  the message to send.

    Oops at first I thought you were calling him a traitor. Lmao my bad..He wants more money cause his position is used the most behind the QB and injuries can take there careers away on any play. Yes just like any other player. Players that touch and have the ball the most and take like car injury accidents will be injured the most and have shorter careers. IMO So JT wants more money for doing nothing his whole life but train for the NFL and get paid like a PRO.... Colts should give him a legit contract offer and see where it goes from there. I'm not saying he is CMC money but he deserves a legit offer for what he has done for this team... JMO

    The market for RBs has changed as has been said ad nauseum in this thread. JT’s contract, as well as any RB not named McCaffrey, will never reflect what they do for the team. In an NFL offense, the passing game is now king. That’s where the money will and should go. It’s the harsh reality of the marketplace when there is a limited pile of cash to go around.
