  1. No, Polian doesnt believe in having a great vetran QB and replacing him with a rookie his first year... polian wanted to keep peyton and at the same time draft RGIII.... one thing i will never doubt polian on is his skills of evaluating QB's.. and i think come the combine Griffins stock is gonna rise alot.

in a perfect world some sort of a move down the draft, getting rgIII AND an extra pick would just be sweet.

say, cleveland wants luck, and we swap with them for #4 and #23....or more.

polians last jmv interview was telling.

he said TWO cant miss QB's in the draft.

  2. Because the Colts would then trade him to a team he wants to go to. Thats why I dont see him going to a team like Cleveland or Seattle. Those two teams are not close to a Superbowl. But a team like Washington or the Jets would love to have him and he may like going there to have a shot at another SB.

why would peyton want to go to washington and play eli twice a year, and prob playoffs too?

    he wont.

why would peyton want to play in nyc and have all the media attention and be in the same town as eli>

    he wont.

peyton wants to retire as a colt. if WE decide to not let him, then he aint gonna be helpin the colts, he will want to destroy them. he wont let US decide his next team....

persoanlly i think if we are dumb enough to let him go (assuming good health) he ends up with the titans or ravens.

imagine those story lines-- back to tenn/tenn still poaching colts players...or the storyline out of balti about getting the best of the mayflower bunch and all that.

  3. rebuilding is forced on a team by cap heck.

sooner or later the singing bonus money has to show on the books.

to me, if we lose manning, wayne, freeney and mathis, thats rebuilding.

you have to figure freeney is in the mix with his contract.

toss in addai, and saturday (both manning guys) and maybe garcon of he wants #1 money.

  4. ok, what about this, if you can take at face value polians assertion that both luck and rgIII are cant miss--

what about a draft gambit to trade back yet still get RGIII?

the vikes and rams are not in for a qb,

doesnt cleveland have 4 and like 22?

they want to get luck, we swap 1 for both of those, get mannings replacement, a real backup, maybe even a wildcat wrinkle next year PLUS 22.

rg needs some time to lean an nfl offense, so he and manning can get a lot closer to pulling a greenbay style transition. irsay stays loyal to his guy and transitions with a multi-year plan (as he likes to do).

use the 22 for whoever drops. or that safety...

i would suppose a good draft extorter would get more pix in the mix too....

  5. anyways it was amazing hearing him with what sure seemed like an undisguised choice for an audible codeword.

i also think that qb sneak was uh, over the top (sorry, but it fits).

cant help but compared manning non-sneak style against brees and that sneak.

  6. Let's say we go all in on Manning, trade the #1 pick for multiple picks, Manning finishes his career as a Colt and he doesn't win another Super Bowl. Would you guys consider that an epic failure or just a chance we had to take? If we keep Manning, it has to be Katie bar the door or else it's all to no avail. We would need to shove all the money into the pot, get those pricey free agents to cover weaknesses, etc.... right? With Luck, you would have plenty of time to gradually build and get there...which means undrafted free agents,etc...

lets say we let a healthy manning walk, and he wins another sb, or more, thus cementing his legacy. meanwhile luck has a greg oden career.

would you consider that an epic failure or a chance we had to take?

    nothing is guaranteed.

i think given a healthy manning its a choice between a legit chance at getting 'dynasty' (i hate that word, but you know what i mean, multi sb's and a general feeling that manning played up to potential) like elway did-- in a short window verses getting a much murkier but much longer shot at something close.

  7. I doubt that.

    he isn't ready.

The fact that we're hearing NOTHING is very concerning. it makes me believe he isn't much better.

If the team is considering trading him (if possible), you'd want the other teams "in the dark". (under the circumstaces.)

I would also think Peyton wants to keep his recovery a secret. It sure looks like it.

i gave two examples of SOMETHING we have read. did you miss manning saying he thought he might pass the physical???? addai saying 'game ready balls'?????

what sort of updates about any of the players injuries do we get?

manning is pretty much not tradeable for cap reasons, and competitive ones-- why would he want traded rather than just pick his own team? why handicap his new team by losing players/pix?

as far as 'secret, well, maybe you missed him talking about the subject he and polian were discussing when irsay called bill in for the axe--

i agree he would not play today, but he is on trcak to play day one of the next OTA's.....

  8. Honestly, Peyton's cap # is smaller than it was on his last contract...and Luck's cap # will be roughly equal to what Collins+Painter+Orlovski's cap # was this past season (and i would MUCH rather have Luck as our back up than those 3 stooges!)...

As for Freeney, i agree, he will have to restructure/extend his deal...no way we can afford to have a $19mil cap hit for him...

As much as i like Mathis and Freeney, am i the only one that thinks if someone offered a first rounder this year, we should take it for Freeney and let Mathis walk? If we also let Wayne go, we will have about $30mil in cap right there w/those 3 guys moving on, and could change things up a bit on D, and probably not be much worse for wear. Most likely wouldnt have the top of the line pass rush, but at the same time, with $30mil we could have a more balanced D that didnt give up so much easy stuff.

    Just a thought

if someone offered i bet they would jump all over it. i dont think anyone will though, and here is why. i dont think we can keep both him and mathis.

my take is mathis and wayne both wanted re-deals did not get them-- management said 'wait your turn'.... reggie sees the writing on the wall, that the only way the colts want him is cheap. he WILL go for the money in free agency, if anyone offers it (if they dont, it means he has lost the ability to be a #1 receiver),. mathis played his heart out this season, i think he was our MVP-- and he will want to get paid. he wont come cheaper than freeney this year, unless we use the tag (and i dont know what that figure is).

too many big contracts, something has to give. i have no idea what garcon will want either.

essentially both receivers and both pass rushers are going to want paid, and we dont have it to do so.

i think freeney gets cut, mathis and garcon get paid, and reggie fumes.

  9. undrstood..

........but if he's getting better.....I just wish he'd tell us THAT..

    uh, wait a second.

    1) didnt peyton toss a for scripted balls a while back? medium length passes, a dozen or more??

didnt one of the catchers make the statement 'game ready balls'?????

its not too hard to read between the lines here-- game ready means wth zip, not girly-wounded ducks, no??

    2) what about the nugget from peyton himself about that end of season physical???

didnt he say he thought he might pass it?

that the 'fail' was about getting access to the colts facility and staff???

    he HAS told you!!!!!

  10. You only get paid once to sit on a bench as the 4 time mvp.

He's not going to get paid like he is in Indy anywhere close to what he's making now elsewhere. IF he plays next season, that does him more long term good, if both sides part.

maybe you dont understand his injury? if the bone fuses, which it was well on its way to doing, and the nerves regenerate, he is fine.

the test is simple-- can he throw a few hard fastballs or not.

they will know that soon, if not already.

he wont sit on any bench-- either retire or start.

    mark my words.

  11. If it does go down that way it will be Irsay doing a final favor for Peyton, because frankly Peyton needs the Colts more than the Colts need him. Peyton is going to need to establish a street value for himself in order to control his destiny, ie.. where he goes and what he makes.

his street value is 4 time mvp. all he needs to do is show he has his arm strength back and he is golden anywhere he wants to go.

  12. i would wonder why peyton would go along with this.

he was pretty uncomfortable playing his brother, and i bet he wont want a nfc job-- he would have to play him way more often, and in the playoffs too.

if he is in the afc, he would only see him playoffs wise in the superbowl, which i bet the bros and the whole family would say would be stressfull, but cool too. the real manning bowl!!

remember he warned the colts against not drafting him-- and he was serious about ending his playing days here. he will extract a pound of flesh if we dump him healthy. he will not want to maximize the colts, he will maximize his position.

    make sense?

  13. hey, i am a homer, i root for the indianapolis colts. that being said, if they had went to LA a few years ago, i would not be a fan.

    however....

    i also follow players.

boiler fan, so i follow my players from school, and yes, former colts players.

the superbowl loss was tough for me-- conflicted as to who i should be rooting for. brees has made me a happy camper i think that took a lot of the disappointment out of it for me.

if we really 'rebuild' , the colts will not be any good for a few seasons. plus-- manning, being a free agent is gonna pick a perfect situation, and probably set up a series of superbowl wins if we let him go. he WONT want to play his bro much-- so that means an afc team-- maybe even a division team. we might well get pasted twice a year by him for letting him go!

put manning on any of our division rivals-- pair him with any of the rbs in this division.....

maybe mathis and wayne take a one season 'look what you let go' ride with him too, tennessee and jax love colts salary cap victims already.

i bet you would hear 'reggie reggie reggie' after a td pass too.

ugly, lopsided buttwhuppins. this years saints ugly.

the bandwagon would empty pretty darn fast.

remember the titans the first few years? all the manning orange in the stands?? he got a lot of cheers against the home team then.

i could see lucas chock full of 18 jerseys from both teams. him getting cheered by everyone and the 'Colts' nickname coming back.....

maybe a slightly different version of 'suck for luck' during his growing pains too.

it would be hard to NOT cheer for him wouldnt it? sort of hope for a great game and let the chips fall where they may?

i could see a lot of colts fans knowing the near term was bleak for the colts following manning, even against the home team.

    probably me too.

edit-- the 'colts nickname' had a D instead of a C, but it wont let that stand....
