  1. Yes, I am related...Chris is my brother. But it was a great experience. The first years of the Indy Colts. Indianapolis welcomed the Colts with open arms. Chris had a heck of a career going up against the likes of Bruce Smith two times a year. I remember one year, one of the sports writers wrote about an upcoming game against the Bills. And he said, the game all depended on how well Chris could handle Bruce Smith. Chris held Bruce to zero sacks and the Colts won. Chris was definately considered one of the premier left tackles in the league. Pro bowl 7 times. First OL to be named as a rookie. One of the few that was named to the pro bowl for three different positions. By the time Elway made it to the pro bowl, Chris had been there 3 or 4 times. Thanks Tfrugal for recognizing a great talent. Those were great times. I am still convinced Chris should be seriously considered for the HOF. If you look at the OL'men that are on the finalist list, Chris career is either comparable or better.

hey, your preaching to the choir! i would say that you should make your quest a thread.....it deserves a space of its own.

  2. Honest question - would you have felt better if I just simply said that his interpretation of the commercial was a stretch instead of asking if he pulled a muscle in doing so? Would that have met your standard of decency?

as the op, i will answer that.

yes, it would. it might well be a stretch. attack the idea, not the poster, no?

again, its the connecting of the dots, not the individual dots themselves.....he thought he could pass the test, game ready balls, his center talking, and the marketers re-starting peyton commercials. each can be easily shot out of the water, but taken together, they sort of reinforce each other.

  3. I have asked you repeatedly for confirmation of this, which you continue to state as fact. I would love for it to be true but I have seen nothing that tells me that is the reality. It may end up being true but today, as I type this that seems a great big unknown. Please enighten me with something official.

there is nothing official. he does not really have a fact, just a gut feeling, and a string of circumstantial evidence-- same as me.

you have a point with that, but by the same token, why does ANYONE post ANYTHING on here? why not just read the colts.com official stuff and leave it at that?? thats what 'just the facts' would lead too, no?

no, we are stuck with guessing, and connecting dots that might not have real connections.

case in point, saturday getting interviewed. no 'facts' in there from the officials, but i think that a little reading between the lines can be done. WHY would saturday make that interview? it just makes no sense to do it with no info-- you do agree that saturday and manning probably have a friendship, right? you think they live in a vaccuum? peyton himself cant 'really' know, only the doctor can make the 'official' call, right? but i speculate that peyton has a track record of pushing the envelope a bit, and i dont think he can do it by himself. so, i speculate that an informal get together happens, with some of the guys.....maybe a cookout and a little touch football. nothing official, but i just bet that anyone in that game would have a good idea if he 'has it' or not.

yeah, go ahead and blast it. i still think that the string of dots taken together have a much better chance of a good outcome than a bad one. a new commercial has a legit possibility that the ADVERTIZERS think he is coming back....otherwise they start marketing the next star on the list. same with saturday's interview, same with addai and game ready balls, same with manning thinking he could have passed the test. taken as a group, they seem to me to reinforce the possibility that he is coming back.

  4. Well I see this is going to be an off-season of "Peyton Manning coughed does it mean he's done?" and "Peyton Manning took out the trash today it's clear sign he's coming back!"

i really dont think you are trying to be funny, or make a joke, you are belittling me and my point of view. let me explain it to you--

i put up a thread with evidence (maybe not rock solid, but evidence nonethe less) that peyton is looking pretty good.

    what did you respond with?

you played strawman games-- changing it to 'manning coughed-- he is done' or manning took out the trash he is back'. thats NOT a fair characterization of what i posted, is it? its not a joke, its distorting others points of view and dissmissing them.

yes i take MY posting seriously, its an honor to be on a site like this. if you dont understand that, go play on someplace like sherdog and live in the cesspool.

when someone just decides to hijack the thread to make fun of it, i think it comes close to violating the spirit, if not the letter of the rules. you DO understand the reason there is not a 'dislike' button on here right? positive not negative. if you dont like a thread, you dont post 'its stoopid' you dont post at all. now if there are miss-statements, thats fair game.

so, maybe you and skinz can take your act back to the muppetts show-- because thats who you both act like-- the mean old men up in the balcony.

oh, as far as your 'serious' reply--

i can play too, they took peyton off the MNF opening because he was not playing, and his future was in doubt. they filmed a new commercial (yes a month ago or so) AFTER he has healed up.

  5. i loved his new commercial, but REALLY think its a signal he is gonna play next season.

he wouldnt just grab the money would he? i would say that a game of connect the dots is in order--

tossed the football after practice 'game ready balls', peyton saying he thought he might pass the end of season physical,

the tone i get from saturdays interview, and this commercial.

sure does not act like a guy sweating a failed procedure!!

    discuss...

  6. Interesting Statement. Compare Chris Hinton's NFL career to any of the offensive Linemen on this year's finalist list and you will see that his career is either comparable or better. And he did it before them. He was a premier Offensive Linemen in his time.No doubt. Talk Pro Bowls and Longevity, Trailblazing, first offensive linemen to ever be name to the Pro Bowl. First NFL player to make it in three different positions. One of only maybe three players to have reached that distinction. That is why Chris was the first player to be name to the Indy Colts Ring of Fame. When Bruce Smith was inducted into the Hall of Fame, Chris Hinton was mentioned as one of Bruce's toughest competitors. This is why he went to Hawaii Seven times...That is the pro bowl. for those who may not have got it. 7 Time. So this is why the Colt Organization and Mike Chappell should push for Chris to be selected. So after looking at Hinton's Accomplishments and compare them to the O.L. finalist of this year you will agree that Hinton should be on the list. Sometimes people may not recognize greatness when it is right in there face.

    are you related?

dancing bear was one of my favorite players back in the day. no-brainer best player indy ever had pre2000 era.

my dad and i used to go to the colts/bills game when he played. i HATED the way bruce smith would do his 'im comin to meet ya, elizabeth' fred sanford sackdance....it seemed like 3 times a game.

those were great days-- we had no idea about pro football-- but were so PROUD to have a team!

  7. one of my favorite memories is having first joined the old colts forum and realizing that the 'charge' i heard on the tv during the colts game was tuba guy giving it his all.

for some reason typing to a regular guy that was 'famous' (meaning anyone listening to the game heard the tuba) was just so cool!

  8. Public speculation at the time was that Elway didn't have confidence that Bob Irsay was trying to build a championship team. It was not hard believing him to come to this conclusion simply based on the public actions by Bob and his record of leadership in managing the team to that point. I'm sure Elway had his sources that were even closer to the situation. His being drafted in MLB was the key to his leverage. Most players only have the leverage of sitting for a year.

In John's case, he struggled for many years with Denver. It was becoming very common for the sportscasters to question his ability to win. Not being able to win the big one was becoming closely associated with John Elway when Denver developed a solid defense and Terrel Davis became the running game. With a team around him, Elway became comeback winner and final drive expert.

If a player is that dissatisfied then he is fully justified to sit and wait to what he believes is a better situation. Whether it's the right decision or not is only told by future events.

i remember them laughing at elway when he lined up under guard!

if one compares elways 'not winning the big one' to the same era of colts ball, you see the colts could not win period.

    i think thats advantage elway.

do you have any memories about how bad irsay was? i read on here someone talking about a drunk irsay deciding to fire a coach at halftime or some such.

  9. Of course someone in the media would love to get his reaction and I am certain have tried to do just that. But Manning has gone dark and rightfully so.

yeah, what would he be able to add to events? nothing but frustration.

its got to be killing him to have lost the 'inner circle' status he used to have.

  10. A 38 year old receiver coming off a knee surgery who still wants to be paid millions

a 38 year old receiver coming off a knee surgery who still wants to be paid millions and has a prima dona attitude

  11. Why should the player have the ability to say "heck no"? He has done nothing in the league. To be honest, all he has on his side is potential. If a free agent wants to bolt out of somewhere after their contract is up, that's their choice. But if a rookie who has done nothing in the league wants to come in and try to dictate where he plays, that doesn't sit well with me. The worst team gets the best draft choice and (arguably) the best player. That's how it works. Of course, everyone wants to be on a championship team, but then everyone would sit and demand a trade to teams like the Pats or Packers.

the truth is players DO have the right to say heck no. if you dont like the draft you can sit for a year, right? checks and balances work.

a player might not have the right to pick the destination, but they do and should have veto power over it. again, checks and balances.

the ideology that believes ONLY in management is un-american.

oh, "Not a peeing match and stomping your feet about being drafted to a lower ranked team. Yes, its childish.

Eli's situation had more to do with Peyton and being in the AFC with him. Do other sibilings play one another, sure.. but when its the most well know future Hof QB playing against his baby bro.. its a different situation, imo. "

this is just weak. the draft is a LIFECHANGING process for those in it. silly words like 'childish' are just wrong. funny how your hero's brother gets a pass, yet you would crucify anyone else.....same with 21 is superman-- he would spend his time as gm punishing anyone who deigned to not want to play for him, instead of stewarding his team to the best position possible.

in the NFL, there are not a lot of examples of a guy saying he wants to play on say, the west coast, and if he does not get his wish, he wont play. eli is as close to that as i can think of-- you have any other examples??

the system has checks and balances built in. it keeps management from being too horrible and gives talent to the least successful teams to keep the level of competition high.

  12. I think it's stupid and childish when a player does this. You don't get to pick where you get drafted. Obviously, the first team to pick is going to be a bad team...in fact, in many ways, they will be the worst team in the league. Shut your mouth and go play. If it were up to me, I would pick the player and if he decides to act like a spoiled punk, I would either make him sit for however long it takes or trade him to a team that is either a) very bad, or b) has a solid starter at his position

    stupid and childish? spoiled punk??

funny how ideology rears its ugly head. i would think that wanting some control of where one works would be a basic 'freedom' -- from geography to ownership, WHY should a guy not want a say in it?

would anyone want to work for bob irsay? mike brown? marge schott?

look at the difference between elway's career and hinton's.

yeah, both made good money, but one had a great careeer, and one suffered through.

i am not saying i dont agree with the draft, i am saying that in the real world one should have the right to say 'heck no' to a bad situation. it should have a cost (losing a season of a fleeting career) but name calling?

  13. Peyton is not the key to any draft, like they said its no surprise but at the same time I think he isn't telling the truth. There's no doubt in my mind that Grigson has had contact with manning.

i hear tell that grigson is the new first alternate on the doublestuff oreo team. as long as eli is in the playoffs, grigs and peyton are working out privately on team chemistry.

  14. OOM, you cannot restructure a contract in the final year. You can extend a player and push the money back that way, but in the final year of a contract there is no more years to push the money back or spread it out. We are pretty much going to take Freeney's cap ht on the chin or some how extend him and spread the cap hit out.

We are going to be stuck with Brackett for some time. The big question with him is what do you do with him. Do you really push the younger and more explosive player back outside for an aging vet who got out shined by the younger version?

i figure you have him for depth. neither brackett nor angerer are likely to play all season with no injury downtime... so i vote both inside.

  15. interesting topic.

i would think that ego/charisma/power would be a factor. polian was big, caldwell is small. we dont know grigson yet, but the assumption is he is small at least at first. will the owner fill in that vaccuum? or do we need a big coach? that is what a fisher or the chin (bill the old steelers coach) would bring to the mix.

do we need a commanding head coach to manage peyton and luck? peyton is a huge personality on the team, and if you have them both, after the first year you will have friction. you think caldwell has the ability to pull peyton in the 4th quarter of a game and let luck have some snaps? to pull peyton off the field on a 4th and 1?

i think the colts need a commanding head coach, probably a defense guy just for balance, but jim harbaugh sure seems like a good model. dungy too.

it might be that the colts keep caldwell as the seatwarmer while waiting on the guy. his tenure might well be just a matter of not having the timing right.
