This whole matter is putting perception into reality while taking care of the contract extension, cap hit, deadline, and options in one roll of the dice. Cutting the deal now only puts more pressure on the organization, player (Luck), and unnecessary attention from everyone. Riding it out to the 5th year makes much more sense from a "must do" standpoint than trying to prove a point from "King of the Hill" highest paid player before then. Not saying he doesn't deserve it. He does. However, next year makes so much more sense from a tactical move by the Colts. And puts all parties into a win/win situation without all the hype trying to reach another Super Bowl this year.
Next season becomes a "must do" instead of a "won't do" scenario.

Obviously, didn't expect anything less. When Andrew Luck is done with the NFL (God forbid injuries or anything else that bars him from playing) ... the man will leave an historic mark(s) on the NFL.

Those last two quoted paragraphs from Ryan Grigson reminded me of someone who spoke "plain-get-to-the-point" English. I'm talking about the coveted trophy every team in the NFL aspires to ... the GREAT ... Vince Lombardi!

Not for long.

Love reading stories like this. Makes me truly understand how special it is to be an Indianapolis Colts/ColtsNation fan. Nice story, Colts.Com!

That's quite a statement coming from Ryan Grigson. Wow. Impressive, remembering 8 months later. Impact players usually follow this protocol. I guess we'll see.

Agreed, Kevin. Would like to see 1R. DT 2R. S 3R. OT/ILB 4R. RB 5R. DT/OT/ILB 6R. BPA 7R. BPA

Definitely . I've watched it many times , and the Colts were killing the Jets in the first half. Should have been 20-0. Tom Matte averaged 10.9 yards per carry in that game which is still a Super Bowl record. That 13-1 Colts team beat Cleveland 34-0 in the NFL Championship game. The 67 Colts were 11-1-2. I'm not sure people today understand the gravity of that upset, and how it should never have occurred. You can blame Rosenbloom, Shula, and Morrall for that loss.
What made me so uneasy as a youngster watching this game was the total inability by the Colts to score. After witnessing the 1st & 2nd quarters, I was a wreck at halftime. 16-7 I believe was the final score and that didn't come until late as I recall.
However, you are 100% correct, The Old Crow. Yardage wise, it should've been 20-0. Jimmy Orr in the end zone made me sick.

pure recency bias! there have been better games than that. it wasnt anything special until the fourth quarter.
Are you talking about the Colts v. Chiefs or the Colts v. Patriots ... Or both?

anything that happened to the baltimore colts might as well have been a different franchise imo. dfferent city, different owners, different players, different fan base. the only things that remained were the name and logo.
should this team ever leave indy(god forbid) i wouldnt keep rooting for them
Wrong or mostly wrong on half your counts ...
1. Different City - correct
2. Different Owners - wrong
3. Different Players - mostly wrong
4. Different Fan Base - mostly wrong
5. Name - correct
6. Logo - correct
Go to - Baltimore Colts Relocate to Indianapolis - Wikipedia - read it! The Colts were "FORCED" out of Baltimore by the Maryland Legislature. Different franchise, in your opinion? Okay. That's not the way thousands upon thousands see it. Including me.

Week 2 in the 1953 season
Yeah, "that one" hurt! D.L. put B.C. on sting watch ... figure that one out ...

I could care less what happens to one, Philip Rivers, from an NFL perspective. As long as he is NEVER part of the Colts organization as a whole ... I will be happy! Forgive, yes. Forget? Not gonna happen.

Cannot agree with you more, SW1! Good advice to everyone regardless of who, what, where, when, or how opinions formulate.

To Jack Mewhort : That's "ONE" smart decision my man! Like the way you think. Put that intelligence on the field of play for the rest of your tenure in Indy, and many fans will go FAR more than just being appreciative. Nice moves can prove to be most invaluable on and off of "said field of play".

yeah nah colts vs chiefs , 2006 afc championship games were better
Colts v. Chiefs - One the best comeback victories by the Colts. The 2007 AFC Championship game (2006 season) against our nemesis New England Patriots was my all-time favorite Colts comeback. Bob Lamey's call on radio (while watching the game) in the 4th quarter was historic. It was the "in your face" proving grounds of one Peyton Manning and company.

NICE! Such great events for entire families.

Yeah, that's the focus this year, Kevin! ... Red Zone Efficiency! Not worried at all about Andrew improving on that. Neither am I worried about Matt as well. The one-two punch at QB is in all likelihood envious from other NFL teams.
-
Kevin, really like the way you answered Carter from Iowa. I certainly hope that comes to fruition.

Dunno ... 'bout 2015 ... How about this though : 2018 : 9999 yards, 100 TDs, 1 INT (to himself), 25 Rushing TDs

Agree with you, mattceinicram! If the Colts win that game it's a rematch of Super Bowl V against Dallas. Loved that game, btw. Never will forget Jim O'Brien's 32 yard FG with under 10 seconds on the clock. A lot of people called that Super Bowl, "The Blunder Bowl", because of all the turmoil plays that both teams suffered from. Colts won, though ... 16-13 ...

Sorry about this. That was "1995" not 2005. Gotta get some better glasses or pay better attention.
Or both ...

No one has mentioned Super Bowl XXIII. Best last drive in Super Bowl history by "The Master"! Ice water in his veins. Eclipses Pitts Big Ben drive to me.

2005 Steelers game. I still replay that shoestring tackle on Harper. If Roethlisberger was one inch off the Colts win that game, and probably the Super Bowl.

I'm surprised the Chargers playoff games aren't being noted that much. Those games were hard to watch. To this day, the 2007 playoff game against the Chargers was the single best punting display I've ever seen
Yeah, 21isSuperman! I will never forget when "Philly-Boy" Rivers flipped us all off afterwards. Wanted to give that guy a knuckle sandwich. And I'm no where close to being a violent person unless people mess with my family. And ColtsNation is an extension of said family. Grrrrrrrrr! I still remember that. Makes my blood boil. Very uncalled for and very unprofessional. I mean, the dude won the game and felt like he still had to insult us. Unbelievable.

Hype, focus, end goal, and a "no hurry" synopsis. It makes much more sense to wait.
