  1. I appreciate your passion, Bmore. That was a well thought out and in depth post. I agree that they wont exist for 3 or 4 years. I understand why fans want it so much, but they likely don't want to include the business as well as the personal dynamics that would plague such a decision. Fans of this team are pretty spoiled after a decade of winning. Many of them, (not all), became fans after we drafted PM. This is their first taste of serious failure and they dont really know how to deal with it. I am guessing by your name that you were a Colt fan back in the day. I was as well....since 70. We have seen many seasons like this year and that tends to give you a bit more perspective. Trust me....if we repeated this year for 3 years, half of this fan base would go away.

There is one way I see a way to make this work for ONE season. Jim tells Peyton, I need you to show me that you can still play at a high level, if you do, your a Colt for the remainder of your contract. He drafts AL, and then tells him that he will not, barring injury, back up PM for more than 1 season. That obviously leaves either trade scenario open. Again, this is just as wildly speculative as any of the other things being thrown around, but it would be possible to get them to coexist for one year. Although the posters here are correct...its not a fact, I would bet the farm and all the animals in it that there is no way on Gods green earth that PM and AL (if thats who we take) are both on this team for three years.

Personally, I want them to trade the pick for a number one next year and ? and at #3 get the tackle from USC.

  2. I see the similarity, but there were also major differences. We took Marvin, Tarik, and Adam in the 2 years prior to PM being drafted. That was solid bookend tackles, and a future HOF WR that was just beginning to take off when PM arrived. I don't see that now. Big difference.

Also, we had a team that was getting better after a long culture of losing, and now we have a team that got way worse after a long culture of winning. Again, similarities, but big differences. One thing we can agree on is,....that we want the results to be the same!

  3. Jason Brainlock. He dreams of drinking Jeff G's bathwater..........(shudder).

It is not hard to understand why he keeps his job. He stirs controversy. The Wall Street Journal use to outsell the Enquirer. I wonder now.......

This is a social media, slander each other, road rage, Jerry Springer, threaten on the internet (from the safety of your computer), and kick them while their down society now. He fits perfect. He's got us all talking about him. Sad truth is, if the thread had been about how well an article was written, it would have received 1/4 the attention at best.

  4. Fischer being interviwed today at Miami via pick-up by ther owner (ESPN). So if Irsay wants GM and coach, he can get off his duff to make things happen instaed of weeks on end-

I just cannot fathom your slant on this. Our team owner just canned his GM and VP of operations. He just gave himself a TON of work, risk, and personal challenge. The thought that he is sitting on his duff is absurd.

  5. I think Jim Irsay honestly doesn't think coaching was the main problem this year. I think he feels the main problem was a lack of talent which is why he fired the GM. I think he honestly looked at the season and said you know I am not sure it would have mattered who the coach was there just wasn't enough talent on this team to be where we want to be. Irsay talked about the 98 season and when they fired Mora on the radio tonight and said those were different times because you could look at the talent and relize you had good young players to get you where you wanted to go. He said he didn't feel that way right now.

With that said by no means if Jim Caldwell's job safe. Like Kravitz said in his story tonight he's going to let the new GM have a say in this and he feels like he owes it to Caldwell to get a shot with the new GM because he's so respected by the players and clearly if you listened to Irsay today he likes Caldwell a lot too. He really went out of his way to try to disspell some of the fans major complaints about Caldwell at the presser today. He did akowledge Caldwell has made mistakes but also said he thinks Caldwell has corrected those.

I've said all along I don't think Irsay is looking for a reason to fire Caldwell like some fans are doing. I think it's the reverse he's looking for reasons to keep him and will fire him if he has too.

Extremely well put. Nice summary. I appreciate the fact that Jim saw that the coach had a pretty empty cupboard to start with, and then held it all together long enough to see them improve. People are forgetting just how devastating key injuries were to the O and D line, not to mention the secondary. Clark and Collie were also coming back from serious injuries. Throw in the loss of PM, he was doomed from the start. No way does Fischer or Gruden being inserted at the start of this disastrous season suddenly manufacture wins. JMO.

  6. The Rams fired both coach and GM today, so it could have been done at Indy too.

We dont do things like other teams. We could copy the Raiders too, but I'm glad we dont. It could have been done, but I'm very thankful it wasn't. When Jim says I have not talked to anyone yet or contacted any franchises, I believe him. Give the guy a chance to make a decision that will affect the franchise for the next decade. Fans should be happy, not impatient....just my 2 cents. It will get better soon. However, dont expect an automatic return to the playoffs, not matter what choices are made.

  7. Whether or not you agree with everything about Bill Polian, the man has overseen the winningest era of Indianapolis Colts football history. We got a Lombardi even if some feel we should have had more. He drafted Manning over Leaf and took Edge over Ricky Williams. He laid down some monumental corner stones for this franchise in his early days. So thank you Mr. Polian for the success you helped to bring to this franchise. You had your faults and it is now time to move forward but nevertheless this is a show of appreciation for the good things you did for this organization.

Agreed. Thank you, Bill. 36 years was a long time to wait. Mr Irsay took over for his dad and the first thing he did was to fire everyone, and then hire you. You made some key decisions which resulted in HOF players, a new stadium, and a championship. Lets not forget a decade of winning. As a Colt fan since 70, thank you and good luck in your next endeavor.

  8. Time for a Python quote:

"I dont wanna talk to you no moreuh.....you empty headed, animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smellled of elderberries. Go away or I shall taunt you a second timuh".

  9. I've thought about it a lot and honestly, what legitimate reasoning do we have to say that he should be fired? Because he's 2-13? Yeah, but without Peyton Manning. Look at the talent on this team. It really isn't that good. Our secondary is terrible. Gary Brackett has been out all year. We're still small on the D-line. Our defense is only decent when we have the lead, which we haven't had that a lot this year. And the offense revolves completely around Peyton Manning. I'm not sure what people expected out of the offense this year, but I expected exactly what we've seen. There are a lot of holes on this team that Peyton covered and without him they've been exposed.

Why isn't Polian's name being brought up? He should get just as much blame. He has drafted horribly the last 7-8 years. We haven't had a good first round pick since Dallas Clark. And aside from Angerer, who is our last good 2nd round pick?? Anyone remember? It was Bob Sanders in 04. For a team that builds through the draft, they sure have done a terrible job at it. And it has clearly put us in a hole. Nothing but aging talent on this team.

We can sit here and speculate that Caldwell doesn't know what he's doing based on how he looks on the sidelines, how he answers every question post game with cliche responses, etc. but at the end of the day what do we have to go off of? I don't know how anyone can blame him for the SB loss. He's not the one that threw a pick 6. I will concede that Caldwell's timeout last year was a terrible one, but you know what.. every coach has their moments. All I know is that I've yet to hear anyone talk bad about Caldwell except fans. Everyone on the 'inside' that talks about him praises him and says how good of a coach he is. Steve Mariucci on Thursday night said he's a great coach and shouldn't be fired. Bethea said the same thing. Clearly our players like him and play hard for him.

You know. it's funny that no one talks about the losses on our D-line. We were poised to really stop the run, and our beef is not playing. Just think what this team would look like had we had Dano's ability from week one with a stout D line. I would not be surprised that we had 6 - 7 wins right now. Then his job is not questioned because.....Dallas not playing the same, Bullit gone, Brackett gone, Drake Nevis gone, Blair White gone, Ben Ijalana gone, Eric Foster gone......

He's a coach, not a magician. That would be a tough list without PM added to it.

  10. For those of you who want us to lose the last game, all in the name of a player who hasn't played a snap in the NFL; all for a player who is not a member of this team you (claim to) love, nor a teammate to the guys we cheer for every week... shame on you.

Watch this video. See the elation of the players who ARE Indianapolis Colts. Guys who have proven themselves in the NFL, and who give back to the community we are all privileged to be a part of. These are the guys that matter. Many of these are the faces we need to re-sign. These guys want to win:

    http://www.colts.com...15-14b0f08f6b27

You want them to lose? You are going to cheer for them to lose to get a guy who's not as good as any of them right now? You want that joy to drain out of them so we can pick up a guy who won't play with them? A guy who won't bring them back from this losing season because many of them will be gone by the time he plays, or will be cut to make room for his contract?

I'll admit, I understand the complaints about Coach Caldwell more than the ones cheering for a loss next weekend. The players, on the other hand, seem to think of our coach differently. While on the same video page from the link above, check out the thumbnail video titled "Caldwell postgame locker room speech."

That's a coach with no emotion, remember. That's a guy no one has respect for. He has no understanding of the game, command of the locker room, or any of the intangibles to inspire others. He's just a puppet.

I guess the player response in that video is more proof we need to lose on purpose, not only to concern ourselves with a non-factor QB, but also to get that guy in the circle fired.

As an aside, I am aware that everyone who types on the internet can have an opinion. But that doesn't mean everyone should type that opinion, or receive a pass for that blanket reason. These are human beings. They aren't products or services of a business. The brand is, sure, as is the memorabilia; they, on the other hand, are men. They play to win. They care about the guys who are there now. We support these guys because they are the ones driving the franchise we cheer for. We are not players, and I get that. We shouldn't think like a player, right? If that's true, then that also means we shouldn't decide what's best for the team they play for.

I won't call anyone a pretend fan for hoping we lose. But they know, as well as anyone with a shred of perception, that they are no better than the man they blame for pulling the players in 2009.

Thank you. I could not agree more. Wanting to lose.....so......you can get more wins. You know, you can put lipstick on a pig, but at the end of the day, its still a pig. Or to quote T.O. (seriously?), "If it walks like a duck...and it talks like a duck...........then its a freakin duck". There is no switch for rooting that one can conveniently turn on and off when you want without acquiring the fickle label.

Doog....take solace in the fact that the feeling you got, watching those wins... it's special, isn't it? I get it too. It is something that the posters giving you a hard time have either never had, or they have given it up. They can tell themselves all they want that a win means just as much to them as it does to you or I....but it doesn't. Because each win is not a number added to a season win percentage on the way to a playoff birth. It is an individually celebrated moment that is a culmination of preparation and hard effort. To see Dano pump his fist over and over was such a great feeling. I lived his joy vicariously through him.

Anyway, don't stop sharing your thoughts like this. It is appreciated.

  11. Whats the point? He learns from the best, learns the system and if Peyton goes down, the colts dont miss a beat.

warhorse, dont assume I think anything, period. I never have ever stated Manning isnt playing at a high level, so dont put words in my mouth.

From some of these responses, its obvious no one has learned their lesson. What happens when you dont have a competitive backup? This year is what happens. You are welcome to your opinion, but dont force it onto someone else by making assumptions some posters are lacking because we dont agree.

Number 1, dont tell me what to assume. Actually, I wasn't assuming anything. I anticipated the possibility of a common response and answered it ahead of time. It was not assumed that would be your thought as I used the word "if". I specifically used "if" to show that I wasn't assuming. How in the heck was that forcing that onto you. If I remove the word "if", then your response is warranted. If any mod would like to PM me and explain where I stepped out of line here, I would appreciate it.

  12. I agree that his being bent like a pretzel in 06 was the injury that started all this. But no one talks about what aggravated it. We all have heard that PM is a freak when it comes to demanding all the playing and practicing time. Well, in 2010, I believe the percentage of passes to runs went to an all time high, or close to it, in comparison to other years with him under center.

It is my belief that he had an injured spine, and he just flat out overused it in 2010 and made it flare up to the point of surgery. Would it have gotten there eventually? Probably, but maybe a couple of years later if the team had provided him with an oline and a running game so he didn't have to toss the team on his back.

    Just my thought on it.

  13. Sometimes i think its as if no one has learned their lesson from this year and what happens when your qb goes down. Do we really want this to happen again? Many commentary have stated it would only help not hurt Luck. Im not going to compare this to a Favre/ rodgers scenario or a Montana/young scenario. But this type of drafting has been done in the past and worked.

We need a competitive backup and future starter now. Who knows how long Manning has. I hope and pray he comes back, but i, nor does anyone know right now.

I would like to know when this type of drafting has happened in the past.....that being a future hall of famer still playing at a high level while a team takes a #1 pick on a QB. Please tell. BTW, if you say he isn't still playing at a high level...how do you know he won't? Next, if he isn't...likely he won't be the QB considering his age/contract/etc. PM is not going to become nurse maid for the new kid. Not happening.

  14. Look, the need for conjecture on this subject is mind boggling. Why is it so hard to just wait and see? Considering there are professionals that have spent their lives making decisions like this and are preparing for this with all they have, I am going to just trust that the right decision is made. But for the sake of dispelling two silly thoughts that are roaming out there. A team cannot pay PM his bonus without knowing he can play. That means that EVERYTHING hinges on PM providing the team with proof that he can play next season. Don't forget that Jim is a very loyal owner and will make every effort to compensate PM. He knows what that player has brought to this franchise and city. Regardless of what needy fans demand, Jim will take card of PM.

That said, if the team paid PM his contract and drafted Luck, the salary ramifications would drastically affect the teams ability to protect EITHER qb from harm through either lineman, or support from the skill positions. The other aspect that no one talks about, is the fact that PM demands the practice and playing time. That is not the environment that everyone thinks of when waxing eloquent about having these 2 QB's on the roster at the same time. Is it possible that we have not had a decent QB because the front office knows that PM makes it impossible to pay a serious backup? He is a once in a lifetime player! Live with his faults!

We might get a healthy PM. We might get a healing PM that needs more time to play. We might see him traded to another team. We might see him retire. We might see a QB drafted. We might see 2 drafted. But I do not see PM and a #1 pick living in harmony for the greater good of the franchise, just so fans can have their fantasy. I'll be more than happy to eat my crow when I am proved wrong. :shake:

  15. flexing, pointing, ok, but i am talking about winning at the line of scrimmage, every snap, not pointing at your back when you are 1 and 13, not flexing when you -14 in take aways. I am talking about whipping a guys butt at the point of contact looking down at him and going back to the huddle and doing it again, not dancing like Santonio Holmes when you are 17 down and massively under performing. Sorry we must define swagger different. Jordan had swagger dont did'nt act a fool, just kicked your butt!!!

Not getting it either. Swagger is a visable attitude. Not a performance. Just what are you saying? Marvin Harrison lit people up with his skills, but he had NO swagger.
