  1. I don't see how Pagano will have much of a say in the micro-management of the defense. That's not going to be his job. He's going to be the head coach, not the defensive coordinator. I wish people would get this through their heads. He's going to have to delegate, not micro-manage. He's going to have to motivate, not teach guys to run routes. He's going to have to instill confidence and a belief in his philosophy, not help devise audibles.

Just because he was a defensive coach doesn't mean he will be "defensive-minded". In fact, I doubt half of the people here even know what they are suggesting when they say that.

All that aside, this is an exciting time for the Colts. If/when Manning comes back, we could have a bright reign to end his storied career. Luck can carry towels for all I care.

I had to go through 5 pages of posts to find this. You saved me from posting it. We hired a HC, not a DC.

  2. What do we know?

-Irsay doesn't regret paying a man $26 million who didn't even play, based purely on what he has meant to the Colts, and what he could continue to mean going forward.

-Logically, this means he won't regret paying the man $28 million to come back, if he's healthy.

-Clyde Christensen is the only coordinator that hasn't been canned (yet). I don't think this is a coincidence. Why keep the same offense in place, unless the same QB is returning to run it? Perhaps this has been completely overlooked by those who want Manning dead and gone. I'm not saying this is the reason, but one doesn't go firing every other coach in a 48 hour span to simply 'forget' one. Maybe Clyde will be gone soon enough, or when the new HC takes over. We shall see.

-Manning is a professional, but he's also human. The recent sadness is because every coach he's grown up with, he's become family to, has been pulled out from under him. The GM that built an empire around him has been relieved of duty. He missed a game, and a season, for the first time in his career. He's recovering from a serious health situation. It's a lot to swallow. But let's not forget: this man works harder than anybody. He's a consummate professional. He will move on as he sees fit. He will play as long as he knows he can play. If he plays, it will likely be as THE Indianapolis Colts QB. He should be permitted to do so. Jeff Saturday perhaps knows him better than anyone else, after all...

If I might add to this thoughtful post, just think of the weight Peyton feels on his shoulders that HIS absence had a profound effect on a team that went 2-14....and so many of his friends were canned, He feels responsible....and probably a little lost right now. I'll bet he would trade that 26 large to have them all back and another shot with a healthy arm and spine. Just thinkin.........

  3. Think about this if you were in his shoes. If you felt healthy....and knew you were going to play no matter what and your future was bright, you would not be so down. I think PM's emotions are about the fact that he has not totally healed, and isn't sure about his future in the NFL. The change going on around the complex just adds to that. If he is throwing 40 yard frozen ropes accurately, his demeanor would be upbeat.

I am not saying that PM is done,....here or anywhere else. Peyton is coming to grips with his own mortality much more than change in Indy. Just my thoughts

  4. Yeah a team known as the Patriots with some guy named Bellichek does that..

Seriously some of you people are acting like he stole girl scout cookies or something. The guy turned a blind eye to his players recieving tatoos for memorbilia that they rightfully won. In the NFL, if players are selling memorbilia Tressel wouldn't be liable nor should he be. People act like hes some sort of immoral figure, acting as if they are holier than thou.

My guess is most all of those who are using the immoral card, have a college football bias towards him first. Here would be my question, if we were to hire a head coach that everyone was happy with (like that is possible), and then found out at 10-0 that he claimed personal charges on his taxes, or paid an illegal immigrant to landscape his property, or used a friends handicapped placard in his car for convenient parking, would they be waiving the morality card then? My guess would be Hades no.

  5. The Colts are just 2 years removed from the SB. They should not be in rebuilding mode already. Especially with the same scheme and essentially the same pieces in place. Yeah, we're spoiled as fans but we expected more. Even with Peyton hurt.

Its your title of the thread.........you say "Peyton Manning fans", as if that includes me in your thinking. It does not. Just like you said just above..."We expected more". Please make your own statements without including others that may not feel the way you do. Thank you.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion. I try to not include others in my statements, but I make mistakes too. I read my response and realized I should have said "some" when referring to spoiled fans. Peace.

  6. If Eli wins then we all have to hear about Eli being the "better Manning."

If Brady wins, people will argue he is hands down the best because of the 4 rings.

What a horrible season this truly has been.

Just for the record, the season is over. It can continue for you, however, if you want to rehash it. Me? I'll concentrate on our new GM and new direction.

This is not directed at you personally, but the only truly horrible thing I have seen this season is the exposure of spoiled fans. Onward and upward! Tally .........................ho!

  7. Rob Lowe is brilliant. He had become completely obscure, and then with one tweet (because he knows PM), be was able to resurrect his popularity for 2 weeks. Easiest popularity boost EVER. Tonya Harding could do the same thing, but she would just make a "skeptical" of herself.

  8. If I were Jim Irsay, I would hire my new coach, throw a party, hire Muse to play, and sip Mcallan's 25 year old scotch whilst contemplating my next dynasty. While I was at it, I would fund a research project that helps confused fans appreciate winning more while it is happening. Schwiiiiiiiiing!

  9. Here is a list of assumptions parading as facts:

Head coaching experience in the NFL is necessary for success.

A head coach who is conservative will not work(succeed) for the Colts.

The events that were tagged by the NCAA make JT unethical.

I find the yearly ranking of Notre Dame recruits as being 4 star (to sell publications) that rarely amount to anything at the NFL level, as being unethical. However, it is what the system is. Just as what the coach did is what the system is. The NCAA try to cover 16" of road rash with a extra small steri-strip. It is laughable. It is my opinion that there are true NCAA violations so much bigger and common than the ones JT was tagged for, its a laugher.

For all those out there who are waiving the ethics flag.....if you wanted FIsher or Cowher and you found out after he was hired that he knowingly claimed cellular charges on his taxes for a business that were actually personal calls, would you suddenly be calling for his dismissal?

  10. So are "true" fans more of a fan than "real" fans?

I need to know so when I post my next manifesto on what we should do I can look down my nose at all those who disagree with me while using the proper terms for my level of fanhood compared to theirs.

I am severely disappointed at your lack of recognition of ....

    Dedicated fans

    Old School fans

I dont know about your level of "fanhood", but I just replaced mine. It had low sone noise and 60 watt lights. Ducting in the attic was a mutha.

  11. If he did talk to Manning, he wasn't going to acknowledge that in a press conference because the next questions would be- what did you guys talk about? How is he doing? Will he return next season? Will you trade him? Will he coexist with Luck..etc...

It's easier to say that they haven't talked and Grigson will let Irsay deal with the Peyton Manning questions when the time is right.

    Spot on.

Who wouldn't want a healthy Peyton Manning? This is a non issue IMO.

  12. No offense, but the last thing I want to see is this entitled fanbase (IMO) to get the idea that they can affect change by petitioning, complaining on message boards, or calling in to radio shows. Decisions are, and should be made, by the people with the knowledge and skills to do so. We....as fans....are too emotional, entitled, and inconsistent. It would start a nightmare.

The billboard in Denver is one such nightmarish outburst. PM has given me more joy than any football player in my 40+ years of watching the game. But i will watch the game after he is gone.

  13. So we just got done with the Manning era. An era that was HIGHLY successful! Now everyone is celebrating the end of that era and the birth of the Grigson/Luck era.

The only way this new era is better than the last is if the Colts win MULTIPLE Super Bowl titles. You new era enthusiasts do know that right? You guys do know that that is very unlikely right?

So why the celebration for the end of the Manning/ Polian era to the unknown Grigson/Luck era? More than likley it won't be as rich as the Manning/Polian era.

As a die hard Colts fan.... I have to say I am very sad about all of this... I just don't understand how you guys can be happy about the possibilty of Manning done with the Colts and many other veterans. (Wayne, Mathis, Clark etc....)

The Colts might not even be the Colts any more... The players are what make the team.. Not the logo.

So tell me, were you a fan before the Peyton Manning era? Perhaps Jones/Carr...or earlier? or is this your first real experience with the beginning of a change into a new era. I can say that for me personally, SB's are great, but they are never the do all end all. In fact, it was the decade of winning football, the manner in which they achieved it, and the class that they demonstrated during this run that will likely NEVER be duplicated. So if I was to note a sad passing of an accomplishment not likely to be repeated, that would be the one.

But with a new era, if that what it is, comes new things to enjoy. Maybe this team ushers in the best defense in the NFL over time.....or the best team at running the ball. I do understand that it might hurt you to see fans jumping for joy at recent events. Only some of them are just fans of the moment, who seek change for the sake of change. Trust me....those fans will be gone if we experience a couple more years like last year. I have seen a lot since 70' with this franchise.

  14. Lets compare the two GM's. We can't obviously compare draft daftness, both because we dont know what RG brings, and just who made ALL the picks in Polians name. but lets take personna. BP was very intelligent, with a major command of speaking with conviction and belief. He rarely seemed out of sorts with his answers, as well as his plan, direction, so on and so forth. However, he also never really gave you anything you could really hang your hat on. He did his media thing pretty well, but personally, I like a little raw. I like a guy who isn't too polished.

It would be my guess that BP spent more time controlling information and less time gathering information than perhaps Grigson will over time. Again, that is a guess based upon my gut level feeling about the two. Over time, though, I will likely get the conformation on how correct I was with regards to RG. I never will know with BP because he has an exterior meant for the fans, and an interior meant for the franchise. Our owner, who shares his thoughts with us more than nearly any owner, has selected a man with a personna that is not meticulously dolled out.
