  1. Luck will be a par QB at best for Colts. Goodness, Ryan Leaf was considered an immortal pre-draft. I think Colts will go 2-14 again. High expectations by a lot of you will just lead to your major disappointment. Colts I believe under new GM will not reach playoffs for several years. They will be battling the Jags for cellar dwellars in the AFC South for long time. The Colts of yester year is over and there will not be one again. Sorry but that is my opinion only.

We are all very sad and heartbroken about losing Peyton (and in many ways wish it didn't happen), I want to preface with that. But in defense of the guy who will presumably be our new quarterback, I think it is a bit unfounded to compare him to Ryan Leaf. If anything, if we look back to the 1998 draft, Ryan Leaf was more analogous to RG3 this year. Peyton was the one with the sound fundamentals, the smarts, the size, etc. He was largely considered the #1 prospect. Ryan Leaf was considered the athletic specimen, who could have a really high cieling. He had great combine performances, and made a late push at Manning to be #1 prospect because of his raw athletic ability. What I just described is RG3 this year, not Luck.

This is not to suggest Luck with be the next Peyton Manning, because I firmly believe Peyton was the best to play the position and he will never be matched. However, Luck is also the guy in this year's draft that is scouting closer to the way Manning was his draft year, i.e. he has the size, fundamentals, arm strength, intelligence, etc. No one thinks he is immortal, but I am willing to give him a chance before assuming he will just be a flat out bust. A lot of scouts have said some really great things about this kid, lets give him a chance before we just assume he will be terrible and the team will be terrible because it will have more unfamiliar names than we are used to.

  2. This really cannot be answered until we see what the 53 man roster looks like. At this point we have no idea who we are resigning FA wise, who we will draft, who we may pick up in free agency, etc. Seeings that Peyton's rookie year the team went 3-13, I would say we need to be patient with our expectations, but you never know. People thought the Bengals were going to be awful last year and they went to the playoffs. Lets hold off judgment and see what kind of team Grigson puts together first (hoping for the best here).

  3. Peyton Manning made him better obviously, but when called upon he's reliable and good. Luck will use him and pass to him as much as Manning, imo. He's a sure thing, but Manning did make him look a bit better, but you can say the same about Reggie or Pierre or even Austin. Tamme is good player, we've seen some good games from him this year when Clark was injured or pulled from the game. He's a player who the Colts would like to keep going forward.

I hope they keep him too.

  4. I would think they resign him. They're not going to cut him and waste an early draft pick on a TE just as good. They're in a rebuilding mode and he's a young kid who is perfect for a rebuilding team. Like I said, he's going to be good going forward.

I agree I would think they would resign him, but at this point I am just not so sure. You also have to wonder how good Tamme is, or whether he was another average player made that much better by Peyton Manning (i.e. Blair White).

  5. Admittedly, the salary cap does really suck and causes things like this Peyton situation. But I agree, we do not want this to become baseball and turn the NFL into the New York Yankees type of situation. One thing that is great about the NFL is that there are surprises every year, in baseball, while there are mild surprises, the predominant contenders never change because they have the $$$$$.

  6. If the Colts get offered a first round pick for Dwight, I think we have to pull the trigger - regardless who it is from. I think it is pretty clear at this point that after dumping Peyton, the Colts have decided they are a few years away. That would put Dwight at the 34-35 year old range, so as much as I hate to say it, I think you have to pull a Pats and trade him while he still has some value before he gets old and just welters out on his own fruition.

  7. According to Schefter, Marques Colston looks to be parting ways with the Saints. We could also draft the best available WR in the second.

Unless someone ridiculously talented falls to the second round unexpectedly (i.e. Floyd), I would rather we go with one of the DTs in the second. Mike Mayock said during the combine that more of them have first round grades than will actually be drafted in the first round, so we could get a potential first round talent in the early second.

  8. I would really not be against that, but is it really worth that first round pick? No. Wait till free agency starts and lets see his asking price. If it's reasonable, then I say it's worth negotiating with him.

To my understanding it would require a first round pick no matter what, as he will be a restricted free agent this season (as opposed to an unrestricted free agent). It was the same scenario with Vincent Jackson a few years ago when he sat out, the problem being then to land a restricted free agent it would cost teams a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder and no one wanted to pay it.

  9. Once again which is it? They are your words not mine I'm taking it since you're most recently saying not to franchise Garcon that your first post ought to be edited to remove Garcon's name.

Just re-read this, you are right - my mistake, I did not mean to include Garcon in that first post. Obviously, I am not a fan of Garcon to say the least.

  10. No chance. I like Wallace, but not for the first overall pick. Considering the turmoil between Manning and the Colts right now, it is hard to imagine the Colts paying his bonus. That leaves absolutely no one to throw Wallace the ball (we found that out last year). Now if this was the Colts of old, and we were playing around with the 28th pick or so - then I would say we should strongly consider making the move.

  11. If we are going to pay Garcon big money I would rather pay somebody else on the FA market to come in. There are some names out there that won't be franchised that are much more dependable than Garcon.

Couldn't agree more. Let Garcon walk.

  12. well if he doesn't get a new contract doneby four he's going to have to deal with it.

Most would be free agents aren't going to be happy to be tagged because you aren't going to be able to talk to other teams to drive your price up and pretty much can only talk to one team. It limits options.

With that said there is a huge difference between not being happy about being franchised and being ticked off about it.

Agreed. I think it may be in the Colts best interest to franchise him anyways. He is 31, and not proven to excel in the 3-4, so this could give them a year to see if he even fits the system.

  13. do we want a totally ticked off player? I think Reggie would be more than ticked.

Potentially, but Mathis has also already said publicly that he would not be happy if he was franchised.

  14. So which is it? Possibly franchise Garcon paying him $9.4 million (which IMO is over paying for him) or let some other team over pay for him? Or is $9.4 million not overpaying for Garcon to you?

I would absolutely not franchise Garcon, or pay him 9.4 million. To be frank, I would be fine if he walks. I think we need to use the franchise tag on Mathis, or if we can get a deal done with him, then use it on Reggie. I think Reggie provides more WR skill than does Garcon, and also provides more intangibles like leadership, veteran presence in the locker room, and potentially helping ease the transition of a rookie quarterback (obviously that is predicated on if Peyton leaves).

  15. That's a good point, coach....

Just because you didnt sign doesnt mean you turned it down.

He' s probably waiting on the 'tag' deadline and the Manning situation..

I am not so sure - I think he is waiting for the Manning decision for sure, but he is also waiting to hit the open market so some desperate team will massively over pay him for his speed (something the Colts should NOT do because of his drops and flat out inconsistent play over the past few years). I do not think anyone on this team has given me more headaches over the past few years than Garcon. He flashes moments of absolute brilliance (see Washington one handed grab 2010), but then drops the easy slant across the middle to move the chains (see Super Bowl).

  16. I think we have to franchise either Garcon, Mathis, or Reggie. We cannot let all three of them hit the door - I know we are "re-building," but you cannot rebuild an entire team at nearly every single position in the span of one off-season.

  17. I actually think Hines could be a nice addition if he still has something left in his legs (a big if at his age). I think the fact that he was willing to take a pay cut in Pitt suggests he isn't demanding top dollar, and at this pace, the only receiver we have under contract is Collie. I have always heard how he is a positive role model and great locker room presence, he could really help with the development of a rookie qb as a reliable go to guy making the tough catches over the middle. Obviously, Reggie would be my first choice - but I think he wants more money than the Colts want to spend right now.

  18. And this is the reason why some folks are having an issue with Irsay - if he goes ahead the route suggested by the OP. There is a very good possibility that all of this has been scripted since 2010 and that just doesn't sit well with folks.

The suggestion that this has all been scripted since 2010 is totally and utterly absurd and completely ridiculous. Yes, Irsay would somehow want to script a man having FOUR neck surgeries in a little over a year - yup, that sounds logical. Oh, and he somehow convinced Andrew Luck to return to college for the 2011 season before three of those neck surgeries, assuring him that it is okay - Peyton Manning, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time who at that point had never missed a game in his 13 year career, will soon have three neck surgeries and be cut from the team a year later. Come on poster, get real I mean honestly.

  19. Also, to respond to a poster above, I do not think Stephen Hill is attainable. With that size and measurables, he will be rocketing up draft boards, and we would have to spend our second rounder to get him. Considering how raw he is, I think that would be a reach - this year's draft class is loaded with nice DT, and if we are moving to a 3-4 we need a big NT. Mike Mayock says he has nearly 10 DT with first round grades, I would much prefer to land one of those guys as opposed to using 34 overall on a WR.
