  1. about that much :) I don't see much more action in free agency

That was what I was thinking, thanks. So if we currently are sitting at 40-50 on the roster, and need to be up to 80 or so for training camp, how is Grigs planning on working this thing out with Freeney on the active roster?

  2. The Colts have about 40 players under contract now with Reggie and Redding signing. They have around 10-11 million dollars left to spend. They get another 14 million if/when Freeney is realesed/traded. I don't see anyway around Freeney not being let go one way or the other. He would need to sign an extension and have it restructured so they wouldn't get the enormous cap hit they now have with his current contract. That may happen, but I'll have to see it to believe it. I think he gets released.

Having 10-11 million left right now, do you know how much of that is typically used on draft picks?

  3. Guys, he is not going to sign for vet minimum. This is Peyton Manning we are talking about. While he loves football, I can hardly imagine he is willing to sign and put his neck/health on the line for chump change compared to what someone else is willing to throw at him. Sorry, but it just is not going to happen. It is sad, but we need to embrace this thing. We are entering a new era of football, and when we draft presumably Andrew Luck, we need to support him like we did Peyton.

  4. hes 6-1 over 300 pounds thats big and he was doing well stopping the run before he got hurt

I know that's big, but when you are talking prototype 3-4 NT he gives up 30-40 lbs on a lot of those guys. The big knock on him in last year's draft was not his athleticism or ability, it was his weight (he was viewed as slightly undersized for a defensive tackle). Don't get me wrong, I agree with you. I think the kid can absolutely play ball.

  5. can nevis play NT he is basically the same size as ratleff as for weight expect for ratleff being three inches taller. nevis can prentrate form what we saw last season

He can penetrate okay, but he does not really have the size to be a NT in the 3-4, who is typically more of a big run stuffer who takes up space on the line to allow the backers to make plays.

That said I am sure they will find a way to use him, he is too young and talented to waste.

  6. BUNKLEY!!!!

Seriously Irsay/Grigson, best run stuffer in the league. Denver is dragging their feet to resign him, so you guys better get on it.

    Bunkley, Redding, Nevis....beast rotation.

Redding plays DE in a 3-4. My guess is it will be Redding, Freeney, and TBD NT. We will move Mathis to an outside backer position much like Mario Williams did last year in Houston. Freeney could be the same due to his size.

But it is a major bummer he resigned, I had high hopes they would try to wrangle this guy in.

  7. i dont get it man, we had a very high 6th round pick.... that could have used for backup qb, special teams and a host of other things. now we get a 4MIL cap hit???? ON AN OT? are you kidding. We can't afford that right now????!!!!!! UGH.

Really? You think sixteen spots in the sixth round is really going to get you so much more value that it does not make sense to get a starting NFL right tackle (when we really needed one). I would be more worried about the cap hit this guy brings when we do not have much space as opposed to the value we are losing in the sixth round. But so far I really like Grigson's moves, so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

  8. So we basically moved sixteen spots in the sixth round and got a guy that just adds more depth to our spotty offensive line? Another great deal by Grigson, I like his moves thus far. We can move Ijalana inside to guard now, and stick Justice at RT - I am liking the sounds of this.

  9. I would embrace any sort of change. You have to also understand the business side of this. Oregon University has about 12 different uniforms, different styles they sell for their football team. The Colts have 2 different styles. Home and Away. BOOORING.I'm not saying that they need to completely redo their brand, but have a game or two where they are wearing alt jerseys. Something extra to sell to the fans. Variety is the money maker. I did a couple designs to what I think the Colts should wear in 2012. Get your puke bucket ready for any of you not wanting a blue helmet.

I really dig the home/away undershirt with the Colts logo on it. That would look pretty cool in real life. For an alternate helmet, while probably too bold for Colts football, those chrome helmets Oregon wore in their bowl game were unreal.

  10. I have been waiting for yrs. for the Colts to lose the "soft" and "finesse" labels they have been given. so glad that era is over with.

I second that. I am really looking forward to hearing TV guys say that it will be a tough, physical football game to go against the Colts (as opposed to the Colts are small, undersized fast defense that bends but doesn't break too much - yeah, well we saw how that worked for so many years). Praise Irsay for bringing in Pagano.

  11. Yesterday on NFL Network when Marshall Faulk wondered if Colts fan would boo him when he came back if he was with the Titans, I thought he was crazy. Judging by some of these comments, maybe he is right. Personally, I think that would be very bad form. He did so much for this franchise and it wasn't his choice to leave. He should now look for the best team for him whoever that is. He isn't going to base his decision on competing against the Colts. Give him a little more credit than that. If it is Tennessee it will be for many reasons more substantial reasons than just being able to beat the Colts. He is looking for a team that he thinks can win the SB, beating the Colts is not going to be his primary concern.

I would not boo him at all, I agree that would be in bad taste. But you cannot tell me that he reasonably thinks that Tennessee gives him the best chance to get to the Superbowl. Houston is by far the top of the division right now, and they just keep getting better year to year. Someplace like Denver makes a lot more sense where all the teams are pretty equal comparatively, and adding him to a team could make them the easy favorite.

  12. This would be tough for me because i love Peyton and despise the Titans. It would also slim the Colts chances even more of making the playoffs for the next 3 or 4 years if Peyton is still able to play at an elite level.

I second that. I love PM, but when at least four teams desperately love him, and he chose the one where he knows he would play his former ball-club twice a year, every year (and could directly prevent them from making the post season), then the choice seems A LOT more like it is retaliatory. Even despite his connections to Tennessee, hard to imagine if he truly buys into "I will be a Colt for life" that he would pick the one team that could do the most damage to the Colts for the remainder of his career.

With that said, Peyton is a classy enough person that I do not think he will be making that choice. I think he will use them as leverage to get higher contract offers from the teams he is actually considering going to. I honestly believe judging by his demeanor he was very sad to go, and loves this organization and community. He knows fans would turn on him pretty quickly if he went to his old team's division rival. I don't think he would do that.

  13. Well we still don't have a lot at WR even with Reggie:

    1. Reggie

    2. Austin

    3. Blair

don't worry about the other players, they wont sign, but Jeremy Ross has a chance.

I think there is a chance they resign Gonzo on the dirt cheap, and I think they use a lower draft pick on a flyer wide receiver. May not be the deepest we have been in the past several years, but boy it looks a heck of a lot better adding #87 back into that discussion.

  14. Bottom line here guys, Reggie is a class act and wanted to be a Colt. We all basically brushed him aside assuming he would want out, but I honestly think he wanted to be a veteran to help rebuild the organization he has loved for the last 11 years. I have a ton of respect for him to make this move and not even wait and see what Peyton did - he is a Colt and wanted to keep it that way!

  15. Cost too much...remember..we're not trying to win in 2012

.and we cant offer much of a 2012 salary, I dodnt think.

..unless the guys going to be here 6 years......we're probably not going to do it

I think they could work a contract out to differ the cap hit. We need so many positions, if we could fill at least one with a decent player that is ready to start from the get go in FA that would be ideal.

  16. It's a consolation prize that most NFL teams would trade for their several of their first round draft picks.

I think the Broncos and the Dolphins and any other team that wants PM now (assuming he is "healthy"), would want Luck more.

Yeah I agree completely, I was being slightly facetious with that statement. I am really pumped to be able to get this guy (despite being sad to see Peyton leave).
