  1. I'm a little annoyed there is no love for the Colts at all from NFL, ESPN or even Yahoo. The Colts might as well not even make the trip to Foxborough this weekend..I think everyone is forgetting even though the Colts lost to New England their last two meeting  the games were just 7 points difference mid 4th qtr till the Patriots blew it open.

How's it your area for the coverage of the game?

you're going on the road to the #1 seed who has beaten you by an average of 48-22 the last 3 times and you allowed 450+ yds rushing and 10 rushing TD the last 2 times combined.

nothing wrong with believing in your team and thinking you'll win.  we all do it.  but why would expect an impartial talking head to think so?

  2. that would be a waste of your best corner.  No corner can cover Gronk 1 on 1 because of his size, he'll just box them out like a rebound in basketball.

Also, Edelman will eat up any corner on the Colts not named Vontae.

The best way to deal with Gronk is a linebacker at the line with safety help over the top.

  3. Thank goodness you graced me with your all too brief presence, to explain to me things I already know.

Again, my point was/is simple: The way the Pats lined up is an exploitation of the rules, and that's the very reason they did it that way. An examination of the wording of the rules makes it pretty clear that they would like to have the offense declared exactly who is and is not eligible; as CBFL says, that's the whole reason for the numbering system. In keeping with the implied/inferred intent of the rule, a simple adjustment would make it so that the defense doesn't have to guess in a matter of just a few seconds who is and is not eligible.

47 is the number of a player you expect to be eligible, so boom goes your numbering argument

  4.

You are missing the most basic point, Hooman lined up in a normally ELIGIBLE position.

He was on the LOS and was not covered up, that is textbook eligible.  Same way on the LOS and covered up is textbook ineligible.

Its not the offense's fault if the Ravens football knowledge doesnt even cover the basics from Pee Wee football.
  5. jesus H, I thought Shank's act was known.

He does not speak of any part of Boston or Boston fans at all.  he is a foolish twit who's only gimmick is being a massive sycophant and troll.  He spews a bunch of nonsense in hope of getting attention for it and has made a career on it.

There's a reason Carl Everett gave him the nickname Curly Haired Boyfriend and the monicker CHB has stuck around here.

  6.   reason belichick  wins is brady .  when brady leaves so will belichick can,t win without a brady.

The Patriots went 5–11 in the 2000 regular season and missed the playoffs. To date, this is Belichick's only losing season with the Patriots, and also the only year in which Tom Brady did not start at quarterback in any regular season games. fact.

a little facetious there unless Brady's 1 quarter in the 1st game in 2008 equates to playing the entire season.

Fact is Belichick went 11-5 with Cassel at QB.

He also coached the Browns to the playoffs in 1994 and won a playoff game.  He was building that franchise and was submarined in 1995 by Modell pulling the plug and skipping town for Baltimore.

  7. Good post, thanks.

I suppose Harbaugh's gripe is with the refs then. They're responsible for holding up the snap until the defense has a "fair chance" to adjust, as I understand it. I think it just caught everyone, including the refs, off guard a bit.

why does the defense get a chance to adjust?  Thats the whole point of using deceptive formations.  If a team runs play action, the play isnt paused after the fake so the secondary can adjust...

btw, they ran it 3x.  Here's the time elapsed between the announcement and the snap:

    7sec

    10sec

    7sec

nevermind the fact that even a kid playing pop warner can tell you on the line of scrimmage + covered up = ineligible and on the line of scrimmage + not covered up = eligible.

  8. We have revamped our team less than 3 years ago. Still missing some talent in areas and aren't consistant throughout all games. Patriots have a very talented roster and have for a while now. This year is the "best ever" patriots team. If they do not win = bust.

and from 2009 - 2011 The Pats lost a ton of talent and leadership, really outside of QB, TE and D-Line they had nothing.  The last year or so they've finally restocked with Revis, Browner, Collins, Chandler Jones, LaFell, Edelman, Ridley/Vereen/Blount, Hightower, etc.

  9. the problem with the Dez play is you can easily make the claim that he made a football move and was past the act of catching the ball.

he took 3 steps and dove for the endzone.  to me the act of reaching out for the end zone (what caused the ball to pop loose btw) was a football move beyond the act of catching the ball.

to me that was a catch with down by contact/ground causing a fumble

  10. Do you think NE can beat Seattle? I don't kno about them beating Seattle because Seattle has the type of defense that can beat NE especially since Brady isn't mobile and they can get after the qb . I can see NE beating GB but I don't think they can beat Seattle . The Colts can match up a little better to Seattle since Luck can extend the play with his feet and you guys beat them before when they were an even better defense last year . The only problem is that can the Colts stop Marshawn?

dont forget the Pats went into Seattle last year and lost by 1 on the final play.

  11. Yout are right, it can change. Cold is cold however. Your face and hands don't stop getting numb just cause you live there longer.

no, but there is something to be said for being conditioned to it.  There's a big difference between practicing and playing in it year after year vs going into it from being used to perfectly controlled conditions.

  12. the Pats o-line woes are a little overblown.  when healthy they are strong (see Denver, Chicago, Cincy, Detroit games).  They have no depth though, so when one of the backups is in it becomes a trainwreck.

they are healthy again, so as long as they can keep Solder-Connolly-Stork-Wendell-Vollmer together they will be ok on the o-line.

  13. Maybe Rex would be suited better to be the defensive coordinator in Atlanta? Rex has repeatedly shown he don't know how to use or run an offense. With Rex's affection for the spotlight it might be best served not to be the main face of the Falcons. JMO.

winning 4 road playoff games and getting to 2 AFC Championship games with Mark Sanchez says otherwise.

If you ever need a laugh, go take a look at the offensive rosters from the Rex Ryan Jets.  mind numbingly terrible

  14. i think this is a close game for 3 quarters, with NE pulling away in the 4th.

30-17 is my guess, but a closer game than that score (thinking its 23-17 with NE scoring a late put it a way TD)

The Ravens front 7 will come out flying like they always do and give the Pats problems early, but i see the Pats making adjustments and eventually exploiting the secondary.

I dont see the Ravens scoring consistently on this version of the Pats defense.  The secondary is good enough to cover the recievers, opening up the chance for deception with the LB's between blitzing or showing blitz and dropping into zone.

  15. your trying to use really good players as an example for keeping their jobs players like bowman and Foles they WIN and had done it many times what the hell has Johnny done to be guaranteed the starting job

to play devil's advocate, what did Peyton do to keep his in year one?

    3-13

    26 TD

    28 INT + 3 Fumbles

    56.7 Comp %

    71.2 QB Rating

Pretty pedestrian at best.  Point being you can not judge a quarterback on year one, period.

    One more for good measure.

    Troy Aikman:

    0-11

    9 TD

    18 INT + 6 Fumbles

    52.9 Comp %

    55.7 QB Rating

  16. ignoring off field issues and judging only on football, its Winston.  He plays and excels in a complex pro style offense at FSU.  He has to make reads, make throws before recievers have made their cut and a lot of defense reading.

Mariotta is in a gimmick offense.  spread, fast, quick no read throws.  Not to say he cant become a good NFL QB, but it's going to take time as he hasn't played in or had the responsibilities of a pro style offense.

in terms of college career and playing style:

    Winston = Wilson

    Mariotta = Geno Smith

not saying Winston will be as good as Wilson or Mariotta will be a bust like Smith
