  1. I was just there as well-- they had free 8x10 photos that he signed (they were the "I am ColtStrong" sort of artwork featuring him in his uniform) and then the ones you could buy were action shots of him versus Miami. I feel your pain though OP-- I was hoping to get a mini helmet signed.

Anyways, very down-to-earth guy! He said his foot is coming along well too... hope to see him back soon!

  2. I think after the wrongful hate he got all this week, I think it's ok for him to shove the pie in people's faces.

The media is just mad because the ending if the storyline didn't happen like they wanted to.

I cannot like this post enough.

  3. I fail to see why anyone should be embarrassed to wear a Manning Colts jersey. He's the greatest franchise player of the Indy era.

This. I'll be sporting my Colts Manning jersey on Sunday night-- I never had the opportunity to see him play as a Colt in person. Last season, my first NFL game was the Colts Buffalo game. I rocked my Luck jersey with pride that day, while my mom wore my Johnny U jersey. I'm just taking it for what it is; I get to see my all-time favorite player play my all-time favorite team. If I was rooting for the Broncos, I'd be wearing a Broncos jersey. 'Nuff said. Go Colts!

  4. yes it is too bad that the colts did not leave their starters in weeks 16 and 17 in 2009 and let the chips fall as they may . . . I fully understand the concept of resting their starters and the larger goal, the SB, and that one wishes to be consistent with their philosophy from prior years, but 19-0 is a once in lifetime opportunity and it should have been at least left to players to vote on it . . .

Jeff Saturday calls it the biggest regret of his career. Poor dude.

  5. My thinking is, get to the dance as much as you can, and your odds increase of winning one. In other words , build a consistent and balanced team as best you can, and then you need a little luck , and hopefully get hot at the right time.

I agree with this year's Colts have more of the puzzle pieces than last years. What I'm not sure I agree with is the notion that Polian wasn't trying to put together a balanced team. I think some years during Manning's run, some years were more balanced than others, however, it wasn't for lack of trying. You could apply the same thinking to the Ravens, who were more defensive minded, but tried to be more balanced in the offense. It's not like Irsay and Grigson reinvented the wheel here.

As I've said, to go to Irsay's point, I understand why he had to pick and go with Luck for the long term, but it's almost like he was saying that Polian wasn't trying to get a balanced team. Now it may be fair to say he didn't succeed all the time, had some bad drafts at the end, signed some bad free agents , and hired his son, but overall , Polian did a great job for you guys. If you're fair-minded , you have to admit that. Most teams, if they're lucky, get one Super Bowl a decade, and you guys got yours in 2006. All I'm saying is Irsay should be more greatful to everyone, and not obsess on the ones that got away. It's fine if you want to go to bigger, stronger offensive and defensive lines,  and a power running game, but that may not net you more than one Super Bowl, or any at all.

Look, Earl Weaver with the Baltimore Orioles, won a single World Series during his tenure. He went 1-3, but is celebrated in Baltimore for a long period of time of continued excellence. Would we have loved to win some more World Series, sure, but sometimes you don't get the breaks, or the other team played better in a short seven game series. He now has a statue at Camden Yards.

A lot of you fans, and maybe even Irsay, have been spoiled by all the success, and not thankful for what you had. I don't get all the Polian hatred, when he, Irsay, and Manning all did a great job from 1998-2011. It's a record most franchises would die for. This is why this week, why would Irsay rake up all this stuff again, that's all I was saying. There is a time to bring that stuff up, but not this week with Manning coming back to Indy. And apparently, he is still tweeting today, with some new kind of song lyric proverb of his. Sorry, I just don't get it.

Another thing to take into consideration is that the Polian administration used roughly 70% of cap space toward tooling the offense. 70% doesn't sound too balanced to me, personally.

Source: Jim Irsay tweet 10/16 "Prelude 2 what I was talking about-ORGANIZATIONAL Model n Team building/discussed with J Bell; we committed 70% of cap on Offense n some yrs"

  6. So far the results are 11-5 and one and done. Suppose they are one and done again this year ? Will that be well rounded , or more of the same ?

Yeah true... but the x-factor is that many believe we had no business showing up to the dance last year anyway. Of course time will tell, but I'm sure I speak for many people when I say that this team has shown a much more balanced system this year over last year.

  7. Agree with everything.

That's how I took it from the start too.  I thought it was more of a shot at Polian than Peyton

I've been sticking up for Irsay all week with my friends-- I've been trying to tell them that they are on the outside looking in on a situation all of us Colts fans have seen develop over a span of years now-- Polian and son did not build a well-rounded team like Grigson and Chuck have in 2 years. It's refreshing to see Andrew throw for 188-200 yards in a game with no TDs and we get a resounding win. It is reassuring; sure, we'd all love to see Luck throw 4 TDs and 380 yds and eek out a win, but we all know the risks involved. Glad to see you and I share the same mindset Superman!

  8. Whether he meant it to happen or not, Jim Irsay's comments have caused a media storm surrounding Peyton Manning's return to Lucas Oil Stadium.

I know there has been a lot of discussion on the boards regarding this issue over the past couple of days but it can be hard to gauge the general consensus simply by reading posts. For this reason, I thought it might be interesting to start a poll on the subject.

Feel free to post in the thread but the votes are really what I'm interested in seeing.

I voted "No". Arguably, Jim Irsay could have said nothing and the media would have dug SOMETHING up about this game. This is the biggest regular season game in a long time. This week is almost like Super Bowl media week. There's no taming this beast; just have to ride out the storm.

The long and short of it all is this-- there would have been a media storm regardless. All we as fans can do is support our Colts and welcome Peyton with open arms. He is, and always will be a huge role model and motivator for this franchise, no matter what the media tries to spin.

  9. Hey ain't this the same Polian that after suffering a lost parleyed the rules committee into modifying the rules to benefit a passing team, chief among them was his very colts team . . . when one is supposed to be neutral and balanced on a committee goes out on the heels of a terrible loss and strong arms this committee into modifying the rules that coincidentally has a direct effect on his individual team should not be taken shots or speculating if another may or may not have does things fair and square . . .

when one wants to invoke fairness, good sportsmanship and all things neutral and beyond reproach then one must be their himself lest he be the one casting stones and doing the same in glass houses . . .

haha Don't worry-- no love lost with Bill Polian here; that man slashed the tires on a potential 16-0 season.

  10. I just hope Peyton comes away from L.O.S feeling like the Colts fans appreciate his contributions to their football team and are grateful for his service.

I doubt a single fan thought Irsay was taking a shot at Manning, nor would they want him to, and this whole debacle has been generated by the media. I want to believe that he can see this.

We all love Peyton and I just hope he knows it.

This this a MILLION times this

  11. Remember how Chuck said that the 49ers game was one that 5-6 years down the road, we'd all look back on and say "that's where it all started"? We aren't going to win 5 straight years worth of games. There will be bumps along the way.... and one of the most satisfying (or painful) things about last night's loss is that we can look back and see silly errors and mistakes that we made that San Diego simply capitalized on. Everything about last night was correctable. The fact that all 3 facets made mistakes meant that one side couldn't bail the other two out last night. We will correct it all. I have a good feeling about the Denver game. To be honest, I feel better about Denver than I did San Diego.

  12. Completely agree. Personally, part of me expected the chargers to beat us all week. I felt it would be hard for the players coming off 3 straight wins and all the media hype we saw over the last week to not fall into a trap game. Which is exactly what happened. I think the entire team was thinking about Sundays match up and overlooked the Chargers. Coaches included. Part of me wonders if we held Landry out for precisely that reason. Keep him fresh for Denver. Oh well if anyone can correct the mistakes, its Pages. Plus I have a feeling Reggie and the WR corp will be focusing on the JuGS all week.

Yup. Better to have this bitter taste in your mouth in October than January (God willing), and especially knowing the stakes of this week's matchup on Sunday Night.

  13. Preface this post by saying it is in no way meant to excuse this loss, or be doom and gloom.

This game is kind of how I thought we would be this year. Lots of up. Lots of down. But a growing year more so than a contending year.

Then after this 4-1 start, I think we are a juggernaut ready to roll into anyone and punch them in the mouth.

Today though we got punched, and I was frankly very annoyed. Like watching someone try to jam a square peg in a round hold for 60 minutes.

It left me questioning if I got spoiled from the start, and lost perspective that this is a very young team, that is still coming together as a whole. Far from a finished product. I sit here crushing them like they are a veteran squad, but they aren't.

That being said, I've come to terms with this loss, and am moving on. It was disappointing, but hopefully this young team learns from it.

I'm also comforted by the fact that I have very little doubt we will bounce back from this loss.

    Go Colts!

I agree with your sentiments. The worst feeling I had from this game was knowing that all facets of the team shot themselves in the foot. I take nothing away from San Diego-- they made a lot of plays. Keenan Allen is a stud (part of me couldn't help but recognize the irony that the "wrong" #13 was stealing the show). However, if we had played the way we had against the 49ers or Seahawks, this game would not have been close. This team needed a gut-check, and they got it. We will move on.
