It seems as if people are starting to mention RGIII in the same breath as Andrew Luck when discussing the number one pick. I don't think Luck's stock is falling as much as RGIII's has been on a meteoric rise. Personally, I think Luck will be the better NFL quarterback, but maybe he isn't as far above the rest of the field as previously believed?

If Fischer wants Manning for a QB w/ Luck he will wait. There's plenty of time.
So he tells all these other teams that are ready to hire him NOW that he is going to wait and see what happens with Indy? Those teams all go in another direction, and it turns out Indy isn't interested? Waiting is not worth the risk for him.

I hope Irsay doesn't drag his feet on the Caldwell decision. Fisher is a hot commodity, and if Irsay wants him in horseshoe blue, he needs to go ahead and can Caldwell and get the call into Fisher before he is snatched up by Tampa Bay, Miami, or St. Louis. I think Fisher would take the job here if he can get assurances from Irsay that Manning will be back if healthy. I mean, isn't it a foregone conclusion that Caldwell is gone? If not, why not? If so, why delay the inevitable?

Finding a good GM is harder than finding a good HC. Irsay says a "number of weeks". Caldwell is being spared until the new GM comes in. Then I think he gets the axe. These boards should be fun for a while.
They better not wait a few weeks to start their coaching search, or they will end up getting the scraps of what the other teams didn't want. Horrible strategy.

If the Colts hire Fisher, I guarantee he conditions taking the job on Manning being here next year. He will have options, so he can leverage that out of Irsay, I'd imagine.

Just saw it. Chris Mortensen reports Bill and Chris both gone.

If you think Coples will be around in Round 2, you are crazy.

RG3 is soooo talented, but I am not sold on him as an NFL QB. I could be wrong, but I just can't see justifying taking him with the 7th overall pick.
-
He's not slipping to #2. The Rams definitely trade the pick. Vikings most likely trade it as well.

So, a lot of people are saying that we should take Luck first overall because it will "set our franchise up for the next 10-15 years." So, I got to thinking, what is the success rate of drafting QBs #1 overall? All these guys were taken in hopes that they would be the centerpiece of their franchise and "set them up for the next 10-15 years." So, how many of these guys would you say are worth taking with the first pick? I went back 20 years and looked at every QB take #1 overall.
1993 – Drew Bledsoe – NE
1998 – Peyton Manning – IND
1999 – Tim Couch – CLE
2001 – Michael Vick – ATL
2002 – David Carr – HOU
2003 – Carson Palmer – CIN
2004 – Eli Manning – SD (traded to NYG)
2005 – Alex Smith – SF
2007 – JaMarcus Russell – OAK
2009 – Matthew Stafford – DET
2010 – Sam Bradford - STL
Of that list of 11 guys, I think 3 of them (Bledsoe and the brothers Manning) have turned out to be "franchise QBs." Of those three, 2 have won Super Bowls for their team, and of those two, I bet only one is destined for the Hall of Fame. Admittedly, the jury is very much still out concerning Stafford and Bradford.
So, it appears to me that all those clamoring for "the next Manning" are ignoring the fact that Peyton is the exception, not the rule. I know that many will disagree with me, and that's fine. It's just my two cents. I just don't understand why people are acting like Luck is a "sure thing" because he is projected to be the #1 pick in the draft.
-
I have a feeling that we will be hearing all sorts of posturing and deception from Bill in the next couple months. I don't think we can take anything he says about the draft, at this point , at face value.
By the way, can anyone think of a time recently that a team has actually traded the 1st overall pick. I know the Chargers did with Elie but that is becasue he didn't want to play for them.
No, but I remember the Saints giving up their entire draft for the 5th overall pick. Imagine what we could get for #1.

Every time Tommy Harris gets a sack or tackle I die a little inside.
I knew he was going to have a great year the first time I played Madden 12. He is a beast on there.
-
He won't be a backup when Manning is gone... kind of like this year; could have used Luck, a young QB with a great future vs a once great QB who has nerve problems that relate to his tricep/throwing arm that represent a shaky future.
Dude, I totally wish you could marry Andrew Luck, or at least make out with him.
-
I voted "No." Manning will be back next year. I'm fairly confident of that. So, just beef up the team around him.

1-15 is simply not good enough...
...but 2-14 is?

You play to win the game. HELLO?! YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME! You don't play it to just play it! You PLAY to WIN the GAME!
-
if the Texans do "seem happy with just winning the division" and DO rest their starters....do you think a bunch of their fans will whine and complain like little babies, like when the Colts rested their starters in 2009?
:flaming: :flaming: :flaming: :flaming:
Doubt it, but then again they won't be going for an undefeated season, now would they?
-
...that Caldwell will be fired if the Colts go 1-15. Looks like being on the hot seat may actually make a difference.

1. Pat McAfee
2. Adam Vinatieri
3. Dwight Freeney
4. Antoine Bethea
5. Reggie Wayne
Before you start giving me grief about this list, I will have you know that I got this list from Bill Polian himself. So

But KC would give up on Cassell and his 8-figure deal?..
Curious logic...but like dn says.
There is NO CHANCE that Peyton Manning will not be in Indy next season...
Cassell has had multiple seasons in KC. Palmer just got to Oakland. I dunno. The Raiders are funny about stuff like that.
-
this guy said that the Raiders have a franchise QB....ReallY?
He specifically said that Palmer isn't really a franchise QB but that the Raiders are treating him like one by giving up all that they did to get him. They are not going to give up on him this soon for what it costs to get him.

IF Manning isn't back in Indy next year, I hope beyond all hope that he ends up in San Francisco.
-
Sorry, skipped over the word "exhibition."
-
This is, by far, the most thoughtful piece I've read on the possibility of Manning ending up somewhere else, either through a trade or free agency. That being said, I continue to hope and believe #18 is back in horseshoe blue next year.
If Irsay Wants Fisher, He Needs To Pull The Trigger
in Colts Football

I think you misunderstood what I said. I meant that Irsay would need to tell Fisher that Peyton would be back IF he is healthy. Clearly, if he isn't healthy and can't play, you have to go in a different direction. What I was saying, was that Fisher would want to know that the team has no plans to cut or trade Manning if he is able to play.
