  1. Not true, there is another option. We could renegotiate his contract and then trade him. With the way that Peyton has handled his business in the past, I see every indication he would be willing to do such a thing. That way, he'd allow the Colts to get something out of him instead of taking a total loss, and he'd have more options as far as which teams he could go to. A real class move would be to see Irsay go ahead and pay him that enourmous bonus, then go ahead and trade him. Peyton deserves it, plus it'd take a bit of the heat off of Irsay for trading him.

Irsay: Hey, we don't want you anymore. We're going with this kid who has never thrown a pass. You cool with that?

Peyton: I understand. So I guess I'm free to go talk with other teams and negotiate a contract?

Irsay: Actually, we'd like to restructure your contract so that we can set your salary to make you more attractive to other teams so that we can squeeze even more out of you than you've already given us. I know we never did anything like this to build a team while you were here, but we really want to put some solid pieces in place for this unproven kid.

That wouldn't be an awkward conversation at all.

  2. I'm not sure that some of the guys you have listed will be available at the time you have them going. For instance, Manti T'eo won't make it to the second round, and I don't think Worthy will either. So, using your scenario, here's what I came up with.

Round one Pick 9- Morris Claiborne - CB, LSU

Round one Pick 25- Jerel Worthy - DT, Mich. St.

Round Two Pick 33- Ronnell Lewis - OLB, Oklahoma

Round Two Pick 34- Mohammed Sanu - WR, Rutgers

Round Two Pick 38- Kelechi Osemele - OG, Iowa State

Round Two Pick 41- Mark Barron - SS, Alabama

  3. I could see the Vikings benching Ponder, but not the Ravens benching Flacco. The team chemistry wouldn't do well and I really wonder how well Raven fan would handle a "Colt" coming into their team and taking over.

That's ridiculous. 8 TD, 6 INT, 7 fumbles, 75.4 rating? Ravens receivers and fans would gladly start Manning over Flacco's garbage.

Also, to answer the question. Keep Manning, get king's ransom for the #1 pick.

  4. Todd Mcshay who has better credentials than anyone here, said Luck will be special and has not said that about any qb's in the last 10 years. That was in response to phil simms saying that luck has not made any difficult throws.Stanford run's a power running offense with 3 tight end sets, and does not have a nfl receiver prospect on roster.

"I can't remember being in such awe of a quarterback in my decade of attending combines and pro days. Russell's passing session was the most impressive of all the pro days I've been to. His footwork for such a big quarterback was surprising. He was nimble in his dropbacks, rolling out and throwing on the run. The ball just explodes out of his hands." - Todd McShay on Jamarcus Russell

  5. If this guy is what he is "supposed to be"...you just don't pass on a talent like that.

It could set up that position for the next 10-15 years.

And we draft pretty well in other rounds too. It's like people think if we don't draft Luck, then this magical player we do draft is what will fix us now. "He" won't.

You do pass on it if it's not what your team needs. He's not what this team needs.

It could very well be a waste of a pick. Any draft pick has the potential to be great or to be terrible. I don't know why we're all acting like Luck is the greatest college quarterback to ever play and is a sure-fire franchise QB.

Nobody wants us to take a "magical player" except those who laud Luck as the greatest thing since sliced bread who will lead whatever team he plays for to multiple Super Bowls. Those who don't think we should draft Luck don't want one "magical player," we want the pick to be traded to someone who is willing to part with multiple draft picks so we can get multiple solid players to bolster the areas where the team struggles.

  6. Other teams are competing for the draft pick as well, and Jets fans are talking about losing to the Dolphins intentionally when things are all decided, s.t. they will not need to play Luck twice a year in the next decade.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. No team is that scared to play Andrew Luck. Seriously, some of you all are hyping this kid up like he is the second coming of Christ. There's no such thing as a sure thing, and if no team has ever done this before to keep from playing an untested rookie, it won't happen with Luck. Geez.

  7. Yes if need be you cut Manning, why is that so hard to grasp? This is a business and you have to run it that way. As for what Luck might or might not do, we have no idea at this point. He could be better then Peyton, put up similar numbers, be average or a bust. We have no way of knowing just like we had no way of knowing what Peyton would do when he was drafted.

I think I finally realize why your views are so out of sync with most fans'. To most of us, football isn't a business. It's a passion. And with passion, comes emotion. We get emotionally invested in these players, and we root for them because of that emotional attachment. That attachment is especially strong with a guy like Peyton who has been amazing on the field and a class act off of it.

If you are still hung up on the business aspect of it, imagine this scenario. You have a guy who has worked for your company for years and is a hard worker, a good worker, and respected and liked by all of his coworkers. Then you have a guy who has never really worked anywhere before, but you think he'll be a good worker. He is younger, so he can work longer than the first guy. Do you fire the guy who has given everything he has to your company to replace him with a guy who probably won't be as good (because the guy you have is the best you've ever seen and not likely to be surpassed by anyone) but can do it longer?

  8. 100% nonsense.

Irsay gave Manning a $90 million contract a few months ago. Isn't that the endorsement you are looking for? Besides that, all this noise is from people on the outside who don't have a clue about what the Colts are thinking. On top of that, before deciding to draft Luck or trade Manning once they take him, the Colts should probably be in the actual position to take him, which is far from assured.

The contract was before the severity of the injury was known, so, no, it's not the endorsement I'm looking for. And I don't understand what making the statement, "We will not trade Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning will retire a Colt even if we draft Luck." would hurt.

  9. I'm starting think the time has come for Irsay to add some clarity to the situation. I know that he probably wants to make teams think the Colts will draft luck so that, if he does want to trade, teams will make offers thinking it will take a lot to get the pick away from us. BUT, I think it's time for Irsay to unequivocally endorse Manning and put an end to all this speculation about trading him. He doesn't have to say that we won't take Luck, just that Manning will not be traded.

  10. How in the ____ is Manning on a "downward slide"?

10 wins + for ten+ years, he sits out from surgery and we are OHHHH and SEVEN!

Qoute me some stats, some facts, some something that shows he's circling the drain?

He's on the downward slide because DN has some weird obsession with Andrew Luck and it doesn't make sense to take Luck if Manning isn't on a downward slide. That's how he knows, without knowing anything about Manning's condition or how it will affect his game, that Manning will never be great again.

  11. Of those listed, Farve had one good season in Minn and that was about it, Montana did nothing in KC, Marino was a shell of himself at those ages due to bad knees. Elway is the exception, but he also had an incredible RB and offense around him and a pretty decent D at those ages.

Montana in KC: Took KC to the AFC Championship game, losing to the Bills like everyone did back then. Made the Pro Bowl in 1993 only playing in 11 games. I know your thing is to make asinine comments, but at least don't make assertions that are so easily debunked.

  12. Yes!I can't believe just how unloyal our fanbase really is!They have a short attention span i guess. He's the greatest football player...EVER.Let that sink in,before we start the whole trade him away for a third round pick garbage. He's earn the right to be a colt for life and walk away on his own terms. This guy is going to remain within our community for years, even after retirement,...heck maybe even become our head coach one day.And the vast majority of you people(i said you people...hahaha) want to kick him to the curb or stick'em up on craigslist like an old sofa.It sickens me and i'm glad he doesn't read the trash that they post about him here.

+1. What are the Colts if not a group of players? I understand that a lot of you are fans of the Colts as a team, but teams are made up of players, and the best player, hands down, to ever put on a Colts jersey is Peyton Manning. Honestly, what person has done more for the good of this team than Manning? I can't think of anyone. You love him when things are going great, but at the first rough patch in his career, you write him off as a has been and want to bring in his replacement rather than put pieces around him? Fickle, indeed.

  13. Lets Compare...

    Jim Caldwell first 2 seasons

    24 regular season wins

2 wins in the post season

    8 regular season losses

    2 post season losses

    3rd season 0-7 so far

Coach X who most consider DA Man

    16 wins regular season

    3 post season wins

    16 regular season losses

    0 post seasons losses...

3rd season 9-7 no playoff appearance...

Coach X coached his team to a Super Bowl victory. Caldwell coached his team out of one. Also, Coach X took over for a team that was not good and had just fired its coach. Caldwell took over a perennial contender. Also, I don't know why you don't just put Belichick instead of "Coach X."
