  1. I would think that aside from Luck at QB, Wayne at WR, Mathis at DE/OLB, Freeney at DE/OLB, Powers at CB, Angerer at ILB and Bethea at S... everything else is up for grabs. I wouldn't bypass any player in the draft because of a position- we need good players everywhere, RB included

  2. Thought this was hard trying to figure out Polian, this is a real shot in the dark....

    Round 1 Pick #1

    a. Andrew Luck, QB, Stanford

Round 2 Pick # 34 (wouldn’t be surprised to see us trade down if several guys fall down the board to pick up an extra pick or two)

    a. Brandon Thompson, DT/NG, Clemson- need for the big guy in the middle- like what the scouting report says about him http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1675640/brandon-thompson

    b. Dont’a Hightower, LB, Alabama- big, physical run stuffer in the middle next to Pat. Only concern is he would only be a 2 down LB.

    c. Harrison Smith, S, Notre Dame

    Round 3 Pick # 64

    a. Brian Quick, WR, Appalachian State

    b. Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia

    Round 4 Pick # 97

    a. Terrance Ganaway, RB, Baylor- would like to see us have the option of a little bigger of a back http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1273532/terrance-ganaway

    b. Marvin Jones, WR, California

    Round 5 Pick # 136

    a. Adrien Robinson, TE, Cincinnati

    b. Tom Compton, OL, South Dakota

    Round 5 Pick # 170 (Compensatory Pick)

    a. Donnie Fletcher, CB, Boston College

    b. DeAngelo Tyson, DT/NG, Georgia

    Round 6 Pick # 206

    a. Dustin Waldron, OL, Portland State

    b. Vaughn Meatoga, DE, Hawaii

    Round 7 Pick # 208

    a. Winston Guy, S, Kentucky

    b. Jerry Franklin, ILB, Arkansas

    Round 7 Pick #214

    a. Danny Coale, WR, Virginia Tech

    b. Micah Pellerin, CB/S, Hampton

    Round 7 Pick #253

    a. Matt Veldman, TE, North Dakota State

    b. William Vlachos, C, Alabama

  3. two things...

    1) we keep talking about freeney in 3-4, when Pagano has said repeatedly that it will be a 3-4/4-3 hybrid D. Freeney played more only on passing downs last year anyway, it probably will not be much different this year.

    2) if you are Pagano, a D-oriented coach, do you want Freeney around to be able to scheme with? I would absolutely. We have been complaining about Meeks/Coyer and their lack of creativity. We are moving from a base 4-3 Tampa 2 kind of D to some kind of hybrid that we have not seen. Could be that it is Pagano who is insisting on having Freeney to fill out some of his plans for the D. Playoffs next year or not, you have to put some tools in the man's hand to allow him to shine in his strength.

  4. Did Grigson make any attempt to get Saturday back for a 1 or 2 yr. deal that we know of? It would feel comforting to know Luck would have Wayne and Saturday for a start here.

I doubt the Broncos bring in Tamme + Clark. It's one or the other. Stokley is almost a sure bet. Played with the Broncs, fans love him, and he's played with PM. If Saturday doesn't come back then he'll be there.

I think Jeff's been a little weird about this. It seems like the only place he wants to go is wherever PM is, and he doesn't seem like he wants to come back to the city that's help make his career. A little selfish, but I still love him.

If Saturday still wants to play, Chad72 is right, he has no offer from us. Nothing. How can he be faulted for wanting to play, and oh by the way, play with a QB he knows, a franchise that wants him and he might get back into the playoffs.

Loyalty has to run both ways, if Colts aren't showing it, then good for Jeff wherever he ends up. That's not selfish that's finding a place to continue your career when you aren't wanted where you are

  5. Interesting to see several comment on our OL being better and our running game...

Exactly what upgrades have we made that make us think our OL will be better? Justice has been a second stringer, couldn't win his position with Eagles last year, McGlynn was also a second stringer last year and couldn't win his position with the Bengals.. And it looks like we are not going to keep Saturday, which kind of baffles me with Luck coming in. How does this = an upgrade (other than the fact that Link-to-a-sack will presumably not be starting next year)??

Was hoping that we might have pursued at least a quality starter, even if they were a second tier FA that we could afford. What we got was other teams backups. If we are going to upgrade, then those moves haven't been made yet IMO

  6. We get their 4th and we swap 3rds, moving 13 spots up in that round.

I'd rather see us taking that extra 2nd round pick they have...along with a 5th.

And yes, this frees up more cap space for us.

It is bittersweet, he was a great leader and taught Cushing a lot. He's a better fit in the 4-3 system, and they obviously have faith in Sharpton, who played well when Demeco was out.

I will now field any questions. LOL.

Was he just not a good fit for the 3-4? I know he had kind of a large cap #, but seems like you would make room for a guy like that....

  7. All the Texans get is a 4th round pick out of him. Just wow.. I'd fire the Texans GM.

That surprised me as well. Particularly as bad as Phil needs good LB"s, seems like they could have squeezed them for at least a #2...

no mario, no ryans.... maybe they will be focusing more on their O since they don't have to play Manning 2x a year?

  8. Colts fan since I was old enough to root for football (since Johnny U) and will stay that way... but always have a soft spot for my favorite players. don't like Denver specifically because of that ****** Elway, but will have to root for Peyton to do well.

1 Colts by a country mile

2 Adopted hometown of ATL, so Falcons a distant second

3 Agree with several of you- whatever team plays NE

4 Then I like to follow players- guys that played at my College, favorite players like Manning, etc. especially when it comes playoff time

  9. Quite obviously, to which I ask: What moves has he made so far that were mistakes?

Gary Brackett failed his physical, and was due $7 million this year.

    Melvin Bullitt failed his physical.

Joseph Addai has missed 14 games the past two years, and has managed to rush for 928 yards and five touchdowns in those two years combined. He's a 29 year old running back who can't stay healthy, and he was due $10 million over the next two years.

Dallas Clark is 33 years old, he's missed 15 games in the past two years, has 71 catches for 699 yards and five touchdowns combined in those two years. And he was due $7 million this season.

He turned around and added talent at three positions that we needed help at, and all three players have the potential to be starters right away. He resigned two very good veterans who obviously wanted to be in Indy, and did so at much less than market value. He cleaned up a tough salary cap situation, and we'll have tons of cap space next season.

JMO, I think the right moves were made in every regard here. The Manning decision was Irsay's, not Grigson's. He and Irsay collaborated on the Pagano hiring, which I think was a very good one as well.

When we get to the draft, I'll be very interested in how Grigson approaches our positions of need, but so far, I'd co-sign every single one of his decisions.

The obvious answer is "we don't know yet". What I was trying to say is that because there is no track record, some (not I, but some) have already made judgments based on their perception of his work-- and with no previous track record to stand on, a perceived failure at first becomes his track record. Just like a first date, you mess it up and sometimes there is little hope of repairing that relationship. If you feel like he has messed up in letting go of one of our players or don't like one of the players he signed, then his track record stinks. With Polian all these years, we had a track record to look back on, and maybe excuse a move we didn't like or have the patience to see it play out.... same with Dungy.

Any talk of how he has done, without the "W's" & "L's" is fruitless. And even at that, it is going to take a couple of seasons to begin to fully see what we might look like. Not much left to do but see where this is taking us.

I'm like you, I think how he drafts will tell us a lot about the initial direction we are headed and maybe give us a better context to put some of these decisions in

  10. Maybe because there is no track record for him, no GM experience to look back on.

If he makes mistakes early, then that is his track record... and some feel like he has made several already--

There are miles to go before we really get to see the results of his work.

  11. Believe the key is that this will be a hybrid.. meaning different packages on the field at different times (something we haven't seen a lot of here over the past decade or so)... Which means Freeney playing certain snaps, almost like he did this year, where he played fewer run downs. I can't imagine a defensive coach like Pagano/Manusky not wanting to have an option like Freeney to package, scheme and scare the heck out of the other teams QB.

No complaints about Tampa 2, won a lot of games- got to 2 SB's, but new coach, time for something new.

  12. I believe A. Q. Shipley will make Pollack expendable. We could draft David Molk the C from Michigan who I believe can start at G and back up Shipley at C. Add these two players to Ijalana, Reitz, and Costanzo and we have an athletic as well as strong line.

I like athletic & solid, but still would like to see a more veteran presence somewhere in the middle. Luck is going to struggle, like every rookie, to decipher defenses and blitz packages, would be good to see a vet to give him some help

  13. The one foundation we better get in place is a decently solid OL. Right now it looks, well, awful... like it did last year. If not, we won't give our brand spanking new QB a chance to do anything but run for his life.

Don't really care about weapons if you can't give a QB some time to throw and some halfway decent run blocking. Don't want to see Luck develop back problems from ducking all the pass rushers coming at him, because you know they are going to blitz a rookie QB like crazy. Would be good to see a couple of veteran OL, someone with some experience to help with protections. If we don't resign Saturday, then we need a veteran C or G to help (Pollack ain't it- Luck would be dodging him falling at his feet when he gets pancaked on every block).

  14. There are 31 other NFL teams who look on the Colts as unusually lucky in this sense. We have not had to experience the desolate and barren years of a franchise QB search, like that of the Dolphins and the Broncos, post Elway and Marino, respectively.

We have had quite a few barren years in the past- from Bert Jones to Manning was rather torturous (except for 1 Harbaugh year). And we even had a #1 overall in George

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indianapolis_Colts_starting_quarterbacks

Want very badly for him to be a winning QB, but history is not on our side. If we can keep him from getting killed by our carousel of an o-line, at least we will have a chance of watching him develop. One poster in another thread mentioned David Carr with the Texans.... that is not a pleasant thought. O-Line, IMO, is more important that WR for at least his first year or so. If he is not running for his life on every play, maybe he can learn and grow into the QB we want him to be.

  15. Portage

    2. As someone stated previously, Irsay became owner around '97. Since then he went and hired the most respected GM in the league, hired one of the best and most respected coaches (Dungy) and let them run the team, like a good owner should do. You want to bash him for the salary cap which would mean you are saying he she be one of those meddlesome owners like Snyder and Jerry Jones. How is that working out for them. He is more at the forefront now because he realized it was time to shake up the front office. As far as decision making I bet he will fade back into the background and let the people he hired do their jobs.

It's not as if he just suddenly appeared in 95, Irsay was the GM of this team from 84 until he took over as owner in 95... that's also part of his "football" record.
