First, judging any unit strictly by yardage is fallacious from the start.

But why do people act like the teams we've played aren't relevant?

This seven game stretch started against the Bills. They were starting a QB that signed 10 days earlier, who hadn't been on a roster since last season.

The stretch includes a game against Bortles, who has now been benched because he's terrible (and we gave up 300 yards and 2 TDs to him). It includes another game against his replacement, who is also terrible. We didn't have to worry about Fournette in the second game, either.

We knocked Mariota out of the game after two quarters, then finished against Blaine Gabbert.

We also played the listless Raiders (without Cooper), and the Dolphins with Tannehill fresh off an extended absence. The defense wasn't particularly good in either of those games.

The defense deserves credit for playing well, especially against bad offenses. I'm not saying they shouldn't be recognized for taking care of business, when they do. And that's different than earlier this season, when the defense got shredded by Sam Darnold, for instance.

But the opposition absolutely matters. We can acknowledge improved play from the defense without pretending the opposition isn't relevant.

You make a pretty valid point.

If we get into the playoffs I don't really care who we play, since it's been a while. I'd just like to see some January football haha

That being said, I'd like our chances against Houston either home or away. I think if we somehow steal the south, we'd have a better shot against a Pittsburgh or Baltimore at home, but if we end going to Baltimore or Pittsburgh, I don't think we'd win. KC or LAC I feel is an L.

And NE should be an L too. But if we play them, we're gonna win. Just watch. :coltslogo:

Yeah, we have not been to the playoffs since 2014. I truly miss the Colts being there. Truly took it for granted, not any more.

I think I allowed for the learning curve, the young players, and the new DC. I also mentioned the injuries, which have surely had an impact.

But I personally don't put a lot of stock in yardage rankings, so I can't say what I expected from those rankings coming into the season. I'm fine with the Colts having decent yardage rankings, but I think yardage stats provided a very limited idea of how good a team actually is, in any phase.

And in recent weeks, we've played teams with serious issues at QB: Mariota was playing like trash, then got hurt and set us up against Blaine Gabbert; Tannehill was coming back from injury but still had an efficient game; Kessler completed 75% of his throws against us (good game from the defense, but it seems like anyone can hit 70% on us); Watson was efficient as well, and the defense wasn't exactly stout on that last drive.

The defense being top 15 in total yardage isn't arguable, and it's a positive. But I don't think that it means the defense is good. And when you include a lot of other stats, and consider the opposition, and watch how they perform, I don't see how we can claim this defense is good. Especially against the pass.

They're 11th in DVOA as well.

70 percent completion rate doesn't mean much when you're throwing check downs all game. Not sure if the opposing doing that, but just saying.

At this point, I think Pittsburgh may be sitting at home come Playoff time. They could easily lose two more games with how they've looked so far.

Yeah, looks like they'll be 8-7-1

I can't believe so many so called Colts fans are on our forum talking about they can see how LVE can be seen as above Leonard as Defensive Rookie of the Year right now.  That's ridiculous.  Leonard's stats are much better than LVE's.  It's almost like you guys are advocating that LVE should get the award and justifying it.  It would be a complete robbery.  LVE only leads in passes defended (9 to 4) and 1 more interception (2 to 1).

Leonard has him beat in tackles 114 to 102, sacks (6 to 0), Tackles for loss, forced fumbles (4 to 0), fumble recoveries (2 to 0).  And here's the kicker: Leonard has missed a game and these stats include last night's game for LVE and Leonard still has to play this Sunday to pad his stats even more.  Leonard leads all rookies in tackles, forced fumbles, tied for the lead in recoveries, and is 2nd in sacks.

So as of "right now", the only way LVE gets the DROY award is through politics and politics alone.  He doesn't deserve the DROY over Leonard.  Nor does Chubb.  They've got a lot of work to do over the next 5 weeks to overtake the Maniac.  Because as of "right now" he's out front.  And only prime time nonsense and politics can take it from him.  And I'm stunned that y'all seem ok with that.

    Who is LVE?

We're holding Manning responsible for the entire offense. The 2010 Jets game is an example of why I don't think that works. Manning was 18/26, 225 yards, 1 TD, 108 passer rating. He had a solid game, not spectacular, but good enough to win. The Colts had no run game, the OL was terrible all year, and the Jets were a very good defense. The Colts only scored 16 points, but do we blame Manning for that? I don't think we should.

With the game on the line and down 2 points, the Colts get the ball at their own 20 yard line with 2:36 left in the game. They go 48 yards in eight plays and kick the go-ahead field goal with 57 seconds left. They're giving the ball back to Mark Sanchez's offense. This game should have been won by the Colts, on the road.

Instead, the kickoff team gives up a 47 yard return, then the defense gives up 40 yards in four plays, setting up a 32 yard FG by the Jets to win the game, 17-16. They were also helped by an inexplicable timeout called by the Colts head coach with 29 seconds left, when the Jets appeared to be content to set up for a longer FG, around 50 yards.

No turnovers by the Colts offense, and they delivered a lead with less than a minute left. This should have been a Colts win. Instead, we blame Manning because the offense didn't play better.

I don't really remember anyone blaming Manning for that loss; he had no weapons... I think he had Blair White lol. Should have been a win. Definitely not the offenses fault for that loss.

A lot of losses were due to fumbles or drops.

Also, I'm talking about the offense in general being blamed for losses as opposed to the defense, not Manning vs the rest of the team.
