  1. No way the 2012 team was better than the '05 team. The '05 team had a better version of Manning, better running game, better receivers, better LB core, better secondary, better defensive ends, and a better kicker (though not so much in the playoffs)

I'm just looking at talent across the board. Denver is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. I think 05 Colts were better offensively but that defense was less talented than the current Broncos D. Not to mention the ST. Holiday and Prater are damn good.

  2. Again....how is it logical to assert a 1 and done team is better than a SB championship team that had to win an away game and play all three playoff rounds?

How players look on paper is meaningless. How they perform is paramount. The 2006 Colts clearly out-performed this Denver team that you claim is better. How does that work?

Sorry didn't notice the thread was titled "Were the Broncos better than previous Colts teams in the playoffs". Must have left my glasses somewhere.

  3. We said this Monday, Snow.....didnt we?

Manning had said all year he's not 100%...In fact..he gets upset when you say he looks like he is...

This was the first truly cold weather game he'd played in...It was 8 degrees to start the second half.

He'd said he wore the glove because he couldnt grip the ball in the cold...

I wanst shocked they didnt want to take any chaces in a tie game from their own 20..

The 3rd-and-7 when they still led by 7...is a different story..because the only needed 7 yards and pass interference would have gotten them that. But anybody whomwayched the game could see Manning wasnt throwing well in the fourth Q

The irony is: The forecast for AFC championship day in Denver? 52 degrees and sunny..

If I was a reporter postgame or whatever, I would ask Manning "When choosing denver, did you realize that temps could reach as low as 7 degrees and impact your nerves?" That would be a good question. I still stand by that the 49ers were the best destination for Manning.

  4. Except that's a stupid comparison because the 'pumping in crowd noise' complaint turned out to be nothing. Spygate DID happen, and the fact is, the Patriots haven't won the Superbowl since the story broke.

Now with that said, I don't think throwing that line out there is quite the 'trump card' many opposing fans think it is. It's hard to win in this league, and you simply cant win every year. The Patriots have a chance to get back to their third Superbowl in the 6 years since Spygate broke, and hopefully this time they can silence the spygate clingers once and for all.

There was never any proof that Spygate actually lead to an advantage. Zero. Zip. Nada. BB was asked by Kraft on a scale of 1 to 100 how much spygate helped and BB said 1. You should know this.

  5. My gut says Peyton is gone after the 2014 season. His contract is structured like 1-2-2. So, he has to pass a physical after 1 year to get paid $40 mil. for the next 2 years, then after the 3rd year to get the guaranteed portions of his contract based on the timing of the contract for another 2 more years. So, Elway has safeguards. So, if Peyton does not work out after 3 years and they have no SB appearance to show for it, I expect Peyton to be let go.

I would hate for that to happen to Peyton but he can come back to where he belongs, and retire as a Colt, if that should happen. We will be more than happy to let him retire as a Colt, always :).

Osweiler has a lot of raw talent. Good physical tools. Maybe all he needs is 2 or 3 years under Peyton.

  6. Wow, I can't respond to the essays given back to me. But, I have said a million and hundred times that Peyton is one of the best ever and is going to the HOF. And that title we won with the Colts will always mean something to me and I hope and pray we can get another someday here.

Why don't people think that is enough, that I think he is an all time great HOF QB? I was a Favre fan too when he was playing and I think he choked at times too. That does not mean he ain't an all time great either but he is not the GOAT as well.

No I do not think Peyton is the best ever. And yes, in the last two years I am starting to think Brady really has been the better QB of his generation and there is an argument to be made that he has been.

I also am not saying Luck is the best thing ever and will win 6 rings.

I guess many of us just won't see things the same. But, that's fine.......

    It is what it is.

No worries. Most NFL fans think Brady > Manning anyways. There will be the Joe Montanas, Tom Bradys and then there will be the Brett Favres and Peyton Mannings. It's just life.

  7. This is a good read. Not a knock on Manning but Rosenthal breaks down various plays throughout the game and also believes Denver kneeled down on the last possession because his arm was not 100%.

I can't quote it since there are videos

  8. Some of these made me go "wow".

    ----------

Manning has more home playoff losses than any other starting quarterback in playoff history: five.

Manning has a 1-8 record in playoff games that were one score games in the 4th quarter.

Manning's playoff record is 6-6 when his D gives up 21 or less in regulation. No other QB has more than 3 losses in that same senario.

Manning has 38 regular season 4th quarter comebacks, most of any QB since 1998. But only 1 in the playoffs.

Manning is the only SB winning QB to carry a losing record overall in post-season play. Jim McMahon is the next closest at 3-3.

Manning is the only QB to throw more INTs than TDs in playoff run and still win the Super Bowl (3Tds and 7INTs in 2006 playoffs)

Manning's QB rating during his 06 playoff run is the lowest of any SB winning QB

Manning has had a top 10 scoring defense in 6 of his 12 playoff seasons

    ----

    Here's one.....

The thing is Indy's defense has them in position to win playoff games. They have allowed 21 points or less in regulation of 12 of their 19 playoff games under Peyton Manning. They lost 6 of those 12 games. That's the most prolific waste of defensive effort in the history of the NFL. 6 losses when the D allows 21 or less in regulation? No other QB has more than 3. Mannings winning % in those 11 games is .500; No other QB who has started more than 10 playoff games has a winning % below .600 when their D allows 21 or less in regulation. Most are well above .800.

    For reference:

    Marino 7-1

    Elway 10-1

    Brady 12-2

    Montana 12-2

    Young 4-1

    Favre 11-1

    Bart Starr 8-1

    John Unitas 6-2

    Terry Bradshaw 13-2

    Bob Griese 6-2

    Roger Staubach 11-3

    Fran Tarkenton 6-2

    Jim Kelly 6-2

    Troy Aikman 10-1

    Kerry Collins 3-1

    Len Dawson 5-1

    Jim Plunkett 7-2

    Phil Simms 6-3

    Donavan McNabb 9-2

  9. That's a lot of 'ifs' in that post.

But you're right...IF Peyton goes and wins the next two Superbowls and his record gets a little more respectable, he's still the same guy hes always been. The problem with your point is that the stats and records that we are using to form our perceptions of him actually happened. THAT'S the guy hes always been. You're just saying 'well if he does better next year, will you change your opinion?'

Maybe. Sure. You judge a player in historical context and in terms of legacy once he's done. But we DO have a 14 year body of work to on, and the game on Sunday did nothing but reinforce some of the opinions people already felt about him...and now the defenders are once again trying to deflect blame and provide a bunch of 'what ifs' as a way to justify his once again and all too familiar playoff struggle.

Sadly this is what it's come down to. It's no longer defending Manning's body of work because he added another loss to his repertoire. Instead we have to now start attacking Brady's body of work to make it seem lesser and more comparable to Manning.

  10. I'm just going to add one more thing. Peyton lost control before he touched it with both hands. When he pulls up you can see it slip out of his hands. Thus being the tuck rule.

I wish my laptop could get a higher quality to make it clearer.

At :45 you can see. Watch it a few times over, and you can clearly see the ball slip out of his hand.

Watch from 1:00-1:01. He sort of regains possession and it's knocked out a 2nd time by a defender. I believe that is what negated the tuck rule. Stupid rule IMO but from what Mike Pereira said, that was the reason it wasn't a tuck. The 2nd hand trying to regain possession.

  11. I used to hate the Patriots but I actually kind of like them now.

    They're consistently good every year.

It's 2013 and they're still going strong. I have to give them their props.

And I actually like Tom Bradys story.

And what team wouldn't want Bill Bellichick as their coach?

Patriots fans feel the same way. On our board, a lot of us like Andrew Luck and were rooting for the Colts against the Ravens. The hatred really isn't there anymore since Manning left.

  12. He still touched it with his left hand

In Mannings case, the defender hit his arm but Manning regained control at his groin then fumbled it. Had Manning fumbled it at the release point, it's not even the tuck rule, it's a forward pass = no fumble.

So Brady throws with his left hand then? How can you say his left hand is not on the ball?

He had his left hand on the ball as well

If you watch the video in slow motion, the defender hits his arm and that forces the ball to touch his other hand. It was literally right before Tom was going to pump it.
