  1. I think the AFC Championship game will be KC vs Baltimore, with Baltimore winning.  We may have a repeat of the Harbaugh Bowl in the Super Bowl.

As for the Texans, it would be nice to see them go to the SB, finally, since they are picked to soar above everyone else in the AFC South (why is Indy in this division again?).  Of course, I'd want them to lose in the SB.

At this moment, I sequence it like this:

    1. Check on Andrew.

    2. Re-Sign AC!

    3. Get a vet or two on D, Maybe Suh or McCoy on one or two year deals. I think we need a big physical DT.  Maybe the guy from Houston but a DT in FA for sure!

    4. I'd make a run at re-signing Funchess.

    5. In the draft I'd go OT or WR with the first pick.

    6. Top of the second I'd hope Fromm was still available, if so, I'd get em.

    7. If QB doesn't work out in the draft I'd sniff around Miami for Rosen and Cincy for Dalton.

    8. If that fails, or even if it succeeds, I prepare for a full competition between Kelly and Brissett et al for QB1 in 2020.

    9. I might with the last pick draft Rodrigo Blankenship.

    10. I would look real hard at signing Tyler Eifert if he's healthy.

Those are my incomplete thoughts! :)

I like your ideas.   I would say that Andrew is probably done, though.  Getting Dalton or Rosen wouldn't be a bad move if the draft doesn't allow for us to get a good QB or if we have the chance to take an LT (if AC retires) or a good WR if one is there.  I also agree that we'll have to be more active in Free Agency as we have a lot of needs.

  3. I think if he does, we have far too many needs not to go more heavily into Free Agency.    I'm not sure who we'd take in FA, be it an LT, QB, WR, DT, but to get starters, I'd think FA would be necessary.   Yes, build through the draft but if there are holes here, you have to fill them.

  4. I was at the LA Coliseum watching the Rams vs. Cardinals and when the Pats vs. Dolphins score hit the screen, several people around me cheered.

  5. There's always a chance.  In this case, I'd say 10%-just throwing that out there.

I think that Manning was a genius QB.  Luck is a genius who happens to have been a QB.  I don't think he had the love for the game that Peyton had.  Both are great QB's but I think Andrew's love for the game began to diminish due to the injuries and a change in direction in his life, fatherhood.   Luck weighed his misery being on IR and dealing with rehab, probably wondering when his next injury would be.

Just when I think Wilkins is not in the mix, he breaks off a 50 yarder and pretty much won the game for us. Mack got a first down on a darn near impossible play that showed his true ability. Both impressed.

I remember the days when only one RB saw the field.  Edge's body took a beating every game as he gave 100%.  It's good when they change them out when needed.

  7. I think he will but it will obviously be a while before it happens.

While I understand Luck leaving, I believe that after the KC game would have been a good time to do so.  That left Indy with the draft to make preparations.  I'm not sure what we would have done but changes to the draft agenda would have taken place.

This is actually a concern of mine. What if Luck wants to come back, & Ballard's like "That's fine, but it's not happening here, you walked away, & we've moved on. If you want, I'll trade you for a boatload of picks to any team of your choice, besides New England."

Cue Irsay "You'll trade Andrew Luck over my dead body Chris."

I like Ballard's approach on this issue-the Colts aren't one guy.  I love Andrew Luck but you don't quit and then show up one day in a year or so and say, "Well, I'm back!"   Maybe they've worked out something behind the scenes as a possibility and the retirement is a leave of absence for physical and mental health....maybe it's for good.

  9. At first, I was bummed out when I found out because we went from the greatness of Peyton and then we were fortunate enough to get Andrew.  I thought, "All they need to do is tighten up the D and the Oline and we could have a SB."  It took a while but I think Ballard was instrumental in setting the table.  I was excited when camp kicked off, thinking that Luck would return.  I was hoping to beat KC and NE in the playoffs (to get that NE monkey off of his back also).  Now, Luck is gone as is that hope for him to lead Indy to another SB.  We are starting over but this time we have much more around the incoming QB.  I'd love for Brissett to lead Indy to the playoffs and ideally a SB but he's too unproven to expect that right now.  We'll see.  It is  interesting  in regards to where Indy will go with this.

Or Joe Flacco.  Or Eli Manning.  Or young Tom Brady.  Or old Peyton Manning at the end.  It’s been a lot of good QB’s carried to the top by a great defense. But just like those QB’s somewhere along the way JB or Kelly or whomever we ultimately go with will have to win big games.  How many number 1 pick QB’s have won the Super Bowl?  I bet it’s not many.  We just need a good QB that can win us some games just don’t lose us a lot of em.

I think Jacoby will be better this time around and will win more games.  He's improved and we have better personnel around him, especially with the O-line but with the defense, also.

Look at it this way.  Now Ballard actually gets to find his own franchise QB.  Might be a beautiful thing.

I think this development buys him a year or two.  But because the team is further along the expectation will be to find a QB that they can plug in and run with...probably acquire a quality veteran QB first and draft a young guy behind him to hopefully develop into a franchise guy.

Jacoby has first crack to see if he can be the guy so let’s see what he does.

I think Ballard is doing well.  He's not afraid to invest in trading picks and doesn't go nuts with FA.  I think he's shrewd in this capacity.  I think we try Jacoby and see what he can do with better personnel, better than we had the last time he was our starter.  Meanwhile, keep our eyes open for better FA or draft picks.

I don’t know if JB is good enough to carry a bad team.  He’s probably good enough to manage the game & get us some wins though.  Maybe the best thing that can happen is that this becomes the Maniac’s team (ala Ray Lewis).  That would mean we’d perennially have a top rated defense & JB won’t have the pressure to carry the load (kinda like a young Brady did early on & got 3 quick Super Bowls).

You realized you just called him Trent Dilfer.  :default_20smile:

To be honest...Jacoby right now is probably better than the version of Andrew Luck we would have gotten to open the season.  Luck would be a broke down, heart not really in it version of himself and likely rusty from seeing little to no on field action in the preseason.  At least the players have been playing with Jacoby all off season long.  So we start the season with more chemistry than we would have with a gimpy Andrew Luck.

And....he has more Super Bowl rings than Andrew Luck!
