  1. Here's one thing that I don't think was predictable. We threw a lot against Tennessee, and didn't run nearly as much, or as effectively as I or others would've predicted.

The Titan's entered ranked highly against the pass and ranked very poorly against the run.

Yet we came out throwing and threw more than I expected. 41 passes including 25 or 26 in the first half. So, clearly Pep saw SOMETHING in the film that led him to believe that the Colts could pass successfully against them. I think that deserves a shout-out. This wasn't something he was forced into because the run got stuffed in the first half and so he had to change on the fly. Clearly Pep came in wanting to pass early and often. And it worked.

I know many here don't like giving Pep any credit (I'm not talking about SubZero, I don't know his view on Pep) but I thought he deserved a lot of credit for his play calling last week.

Those are some good points! I do like peps passing play calling. And i actually like pep for the most part. He has been able to adapt week by week and make changes that he needs to.

Last year is a great example. Hamilton loves to use 2 TE sets with a FB or 3 TE sets. He also likes to use Wayne for intermediate routes and loves how he is a great possession receiver. But once Allen and Wayne went down with injuries then he switched to a no huddle fast pace offense to fit other players needs. Hilton can stretch the field, get separation with speed, and run after the catch. While Fleener is a way better receiver than a blocker. It worked for them.

  2. All fair points and I don't think many people will argue them. Hopefully he blossoms here and even if he doesn't become superstar I'll take him being a solid starter at least for us.

I do wonder sometimes how history would have played out if Ballard doesn't get injured.

I agree he is a great guy and I am rooting for him to succeed! At least he isn't doing roids or driving drunk *cough* Landry, Rogers *cough*

I have always wondered also. I think one of the main reasons for the Richardson trade was Pep and Pagano wanted a ground and pound offense so they had Grigson go out and get him to try and complete it.

It sucks that Ballard got injured so much......sadly i think they might part ways with him by the end of the season.

  3. You understand there are 11 players on offense right? Trent has looked better this year anyone who has watched the games can see that. His ypc typically goes down hill on a few plays he still gets first contact in the backfield about 15-20% of the time I would guess but rarely doesn't at least get back to the line.

Our O Line is young and improving and Trent will improve with it. Our OC doesn't do him a lot a favors at times IMO.

If you think he is ever going make a 3rd overall pick impact then you will be disappointed for his time in Indy. It was ridiculous to take him at 3rd overall unless the plan was to build the team around him. That means blocking schemes play calling etc that is not the case.

We are building a team around the 1st overall pick Trent is a piece. He still needs to improve in my opinion but I think people need to get past the 3rd overall pick We were not the fools that made that move. Grig's traded a late first for him. Could we have done better in this years draft with that pick maybe look at Werner. It is hit or miss.

We have played 4 games this year and he leads the team in yards from scrimmage. It isn't nearly as bad a you make it out to be. IMO it will continue to improve. Time will tell.

You are making good points and I can see what you are talking about. I am not trying to say he is horrible or a piece of garbage he just has disappointed. If you take away the 3rd overall pick status he still is basically our 26th overall pick. He hasn't really lived up to that either.

My whole thing with Richardson is I feel like some people are lying to themselves in the fact that they aren't disappointed with his out put. I think he has improved and who knows maybe he could turn it up even more later this season. Who knows. But with what the most of the media, players, and fans expected he hasn't lived up to it. For people to say they are not disappointed for in him whatsoever for his out put in indy, either means they are lying or they really thought he wasn't that good.

I will say he has potential and i really am rooting for him to succeed! If he does play as hard as he has been and improves even more this season I will gladly eat my words and admit I was wrong.

  4. Again. Lol, wut? You have failed on both accounts. I need to sleep.

I can see you are having a hard time understanding. You are just lying to yourself about Werner and Richardson not producing. Its okay to look at your team and say it has holes and could use improvement. Have a good nights rest it should clear your mind and help you think a little better.

  5. Not at all, having an opinion on a player is absolutely fine.

Pushing that opinion in numerous topics, often in something that is not related and making it the only thing you post about is what leads to those accusations.

It's sad but I do honestly think there is now a section of posters who are rooting for Trent to do badly so they can be proved "right". That's got to be a very weird place to be as a fan of a team.

Oh just for complete transparency my own thoughts on the Trent affair, I wasn't too happy with the trade at the time because my own opinion is almost no RB is worth trading a 1st rounder for, same as I think there is very few RBs worth drafting in the 1st. However that's old news, now he wears the Shoe I'll pull for him. That's not to say I'm above criticising him but it won't be blind criticism. I think he gets a rough deal in that the positive things he does do are massively overshadowed by the negative sentiment on here towards him.

Richardson is a great guy and I don't hate him. I hope he does good and I do root for him. I think he is a physical beast but hear me out for a little.

What really makes no sense to me is how fans can comfortably say Richardson isn't disappointing. I want him to do good and it would suck to look back in the future and have everyone say Grigson F'ed up and traded for a crap running back. I don't want him to be a bust, he has potential and is a stand up guy who wears the horseshoe. For fans to say stuff like they are fine with spending a first round pick on him and they don't expect him to put up some 100 yard games, boggles my mind.

When he was traded most Colts fans (including me) thought he was going to be a bruising top RB who would rush for 1,000 yards. You have to admit his play has disappointed fans. He was a 3rd overall pick! He was a 3rd overall pick RB to have 2 to 3 yards per carry average, and has had some fumbling issues. His best game running wise this year he fumbled twice.

He is a young guy and he could turn it around. If he does i will gladly eat my words and send TRich a apology letter myself. The thing is fans are in denial that he has disappointed and I'm just trying to say its okay to not be happy with his production.

  6. Out of curiosity, what kind of numbers would you like to see Trent end the season with?

I think he should be putting out 1,000 yards and at least 6 TDs with at least a 4.0 average. My biggest thing with Richardson is he just underachieves. I don't think he is horrible but for a first round pick he should be producing 1st round numbers or at least starting running back numbers.

  7. How can you say they whiffed on Werner? The guy has only played in 17 games while starting 5 of them, lol. Against the Titans Trent had 99 all purpose yards. You need to actually look into this stuff & learn to look at the big picture.

Right now Werner is a wiff. Not only is his play in question, him also playing 17 games and starting 5 put a question mark on his health. He did sit behind Mathis but would have gotten a lot more snaps if he wasn't injured.

The bigger picture is he touched the ball 25 times and only got 99 yards. That is only 3.96 yards a touch. That is not a good average. Also the Colts offense averages 4 yards with Richardson in the lineup and without they average 6. My biggest thing with Richardson is he was a 3rd overall pick and was touted as the next Adrian Peterson, and he puts up mediocre type numbers. When you use a first round pick on someone it makes sense to expect him to produce high numbers. Im not saying he's a horrible player he just underachieves.

  8. So you fall into the some category? That's fine but I do get tired of the nonstop whine about him. Just me I guess.

I feel like the nonstop whine is justifiable to a degree. I mean Richardson was a 3rd overall pick, had 1,000+ yards, 11+ TDs, with a crap team, and he was injured while doing it. He was also heralded as the next Adrian Peterson. Then he comes here and has played like a back up RB at best. So for fans to be let down its understandable. Like look at Darren McFadden he isn't a bad RB but he was drafted 9th, he was injury prone all the time, and under performed his whole career. For Raiders fans to be mad about him makes sense.

Saying he is horrible and a piece of garbage is too much and i don't agree with people who say that. Cause he isn't bad he just under performs. I will say there is 12 games left and if he amps it up then I will 100% eat my words about him.

  9. I don't known what evidence there is that he's not starting-caliber. I think more than anything he just hasn't been given the chance. I'm pulling for him to succeed, if for nothing else than to quiet the so-called "experts" and everyone else who seems to just regurgitate what they say. Go Sergio!

Sergio started for the Patriots when they released Meriweather and he was bad. Also he allowed Blaine Gabbert to throw a 80 yard game winning touchdown Lucks rookie year. Sergio is a good tackler but his coverage is such a liability.

  10. TRich is leading the team in all purpose yards so I cant call him a disappointment. He blocks and catches the ball out of the backfield very well. I know some expect him to be an all star runner but it is what it is. He don't have a big contract so having him on the roster is OK by me,

I don't think he is a horrible player by any means. He has improved from last year but he still was technically our first round pick. Whiffing on Werner and Richardson two years in a row is a big hit. I will honestly say as a 3rd overall pick i expect him to be putting up all star numbers.

  11. Someone else disappointed with Trent what a surprise? I wonder how we are keeping Bradshaw healthy and fresh?? McNary is back up being asked to do a lot for someone who hadn't played in 2yrs saw his first action in wk 13 last year. He should be more like Freeman.

Surprises Kerr no one saw this monster coming Purifoy has impressed me thought that was a big mistake by Grigs I was wrong please continue to prove me wrong and don't end up with the 3 below and Shipley out of the blue and the rest of his mates.

Disappointments Rogers Mathis and Landry pretty easy on those three.

Richardson was the 3rd overall pick, he rushed for 1,000+ yards with 11+ TDs his rookie season while partially injured, and he's had the best team of his 3 year career. He should be putting up number one running back numbers. I should not expect a player we used a 1st round pick on to keep the back up running back fresh.

  12. We gave up a low level first for him plus he isn't making a ton of cash. The combo of Richardson & Bradshaw have been pretty darn good this year.

It was a low level first but after whiffing big on Werner not having a first rounder really takes a blow. Idk maybe the Titans actually have a good run D and Richardson runs wild the rest of the year. As of right now he isnt looking to good.

  13. Please give an example of me not knowing football?

You guys are excited because a guy that avgs 3ypc is leading the team in all purpose yrds. Thats because the coaches are forcing him the ball. If Herron had his touches, he'd be the all purpose yrd leader

I agree 100%. Richardson isnt doing bad but he should be performing at an elite level for what we got him for.

Also vanilla stats like yards dont tell the whole story. Bradshaw is actually the top ranked pass catching back in the NFL.

  14. I think the exact opposite is true. First, yes Luck is throwing the ball more, but it's not at the expense of the running game. They're both getting more opportunities because they've been dominating time of possession the past couple of weeks. They still ran the ball 34 times against Philly, 25 times vs. Jax and 37 times against Tenn, and I'm not including runs by the QBs. The running game is still definitely a big and important part of the offense, just like it should be.

Second, airing the ball out more and running less is what the Colts have done for the past decade. How many SB trophies did that get them? None..because the one SB win in '06 came when the Colts were able to have a successful running game that they stuck with throughout the playoffs.

I totally agree. One thing I will say is I hope they get more creative with their run plays though. It seems like they always run on 1st down and they make it so predictable.

  15. Jalil Brown is going to get a chance at safety in my opinion. He could be replacing a defensive back of ours. Someone is getting moved though for sure.

It really depends on what they do with Mike Adams. He is versatile enough to play FS or SS. If they keep him at SS then Purifoy or Brown would get the nod. Purifoy and Brown are better at coverage than run support and tackling. If they move Adams to FS then McDonald would get the start due to that being his natural position.

  16. I know the Richardson stuff gets really old. But I would invite anyone to go back and look at his runs where he gets nowhere and look how often he is met the line by 1 or 2 defenders. RBs need holes. When he gets holes, he makes things happen. This is where I think Holmes might add a bit more then Shipley. Shipley is a good pass blocker but I think he lacks in run blocking. He doesn't move the pile. I think Mewhort, Holmes, and Thornton inside could potentially move some bodies because of their size and strength. But I am sure it will work itself out. One of these weeks, Shipley will look bad and be put back on bench.

I see what you mean. With Richardson he is a physical beast. He can break tackles, is a good recieving back, is a monster in pass blocking, and is actually faster than people think. My biggest knock on Richardson is his vision. He only can run when the holes are as big as they were against the Eagles. For example if they call a power play Richardson will just run in the pile if there is a hole or not. He doesnt use his natural RB ability and find other running lanes.

  17. Now that a quarter of the season is in the books we have a pretty decent gauge of the 2014-2015 Colts! With just 4 games which 3 players have surprised you in these 4 games? Also which 3 players disappointed you? Not staying these players will always suck but in these 4 games they have just not performed to your initial thought.

    1. My number one has to be Ahmad Bradshaw. Not only has he stayed healthy he has shown he is the best runner on the roster. He has been a great reciever snagging 4 TDs, which is already more than his career total before the season. He also is the 10th best running back and ranked 1st in receiving backs (according to football outsiders). http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/rb

    2. My number 2 is Andrew Luck. The only reason why he is a surprise because I didn't think he would outperform Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Drew Brees in the first 4 games. Not only is he out performing, is he is on pace for MVP numbers.

    3. My third one is Cory Redding. I picked Redding because he filled Mathis spot as a defensive leader and he has been playing great. He has been good in run defense and also has been a good pass rusher for a 3-4 DE. He also has been rushing standing up and been really versatile.

    1. For my first disappointment it has to be Bjorn Werner. His pass rushing is the reason why. He hasn't logged in one sack in any of the games. To put it in perspective Kelcy Quarles already has a sack and he's only played 2 games.

    2. For my second It has to be Josh McNary. I didn't expect him to be an elite ILB but he hasn't even been decent. He has gotten torched in the pass game and has missed some tackles. He had a lot of promise at the end of last year but looks totally different this year.

    3. My third has to be Trent Richardson. I didn't expect him to be Marshawn Lynch but I thought his rushing would improve, especially since he has a whole offseason with the Colts. Have not been impressed at all.

    Thoughts??

  18. Last season he was a bit inconsistent. The good Vontae was Unbeatable. The bad vontae was...bad.. This year he has yet to have a bad game and hopefully never will.

True that I love the good Vontae. Hopefully he doesn't have problems with Andre Johnson like last year.

  19. Seen this in another thread wondered what the chances of it happening could be

I saw Butler lined up at safety against Philly on some plays. He is a great slot CB so i say we roll with Purifoy or McDonald.
