  1. You've got to be kidding me....this guy was a top 3 overall draft choice LAST YEAR. If we can scrap together a wild card-type season, the value we just got is insane.

Plus, if he is less than 100% right now, we can afford to be patient with him. Cleveland couldn't.

In other news, Cleveland's now so desperate for RB help they're going to bring in the Moleman to start if Mcgahee doesn't check out.

  2. It certainly looks like this could be Luck's worst game ever on paper- tough D is * off after being blown out, we're playing in their house across the country, our rookie guard making his first start gets Justin Smith as his welcoming party....I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Luck had a horrible game.

But that's why they play the game. Just because our backs are up against the wall and conventional logic says we'll get smashed doesn't make it so. I'm looking forward to see how we handle the hostile environment. I'm not expecting a win- but if we can play better than we did last year in similar spots, I'll be happy with the progress.

  3. Let's face it- I know the coaches may be paranoid about using the "r" word, but in some ways, we're still a rebuilding team. We're not great offensively or defensively yet, although we do have some key pieces in place. It's going to take another year or possibly two to get the personnel to be a legit SB contender in place, and that's if we assume our still unproven coaching staff can get the most out of them and that Grigs makes the right moves. I'm optimistic, but it's no slam dunk just yet.

I still see the trend pointing up as far as our overall talent base goes, but it takes some time to develop and gel.

  4. TD efficiency (or lack of it) in scoring position got us again.

I'm not one to play the ref card usually, but yesterday was an exception. Seemed like they were working just as hard as Miami to keep us out of the end zone. But, either way, when we convert those opportunities into TD's, we win. When we don't, we don't.

  5. Is it a league wide initiative for the refs to let the corners/receivers be more physical? After the Colts game I watched the finale of the Texans/Titans game and there were repeated no-calls by the referees there too.

I also watched the Seattle-San Fran game, and noticed the same thing. Seattle's secondary was mugging the 49er's receivers, but nothing really got called except for the play where the corner threw down the WR. Half the "highlights" they were showing of the DB's were of guys holding down field past 5 yards, not letting go of jerseys, and getting there early.

That's not to mention the other goofy calls in that game.

  6. I'm glad for Dwight. Historically, he's almost always done well against Duane Brown (seems like people trying to get too cute calling him the best LT in the game, but still a fine player), so let's see how he does the rest of the way out. Playing in the AFC West should give him plenty of opportunities with the level of LT play in that division. Maybe it's just me, but whenever I watch Clady play I don't understand what the hype on him is all about, either.

  7. I don't see the big deal in this. Frankly, he's right.

All I see is a Colts fan calling for things to be better like a lot of other Colts fans, only this particular one happens to have a lot more cash invested in that endeavor than the rest of us. I don't use Twitter myself, but I'd much rather have an owner who it's clear is an avid fan running the team over a lot of the more corporate, cookie-cutter style owners out there. Irsay brings some personality to a game that's becoming more and more refined and sanitized, and losing its character in the process. I know it's all about dollars and cents, but let's at leave some veneer of fun and "Dude, I can't believe our owner just did that" breeziness without overreacting like it's the end of the team.

  8. I think RG3 is quicker on darting moves.  Pryor has that long gliding stride where he just doesn't look as fast as he's moving.  That fooled many teams when he was at OSU.

This is from Vick's Wiki page, and we all know that's not exactly the most accurate source:

"At his Pro Day workout, Vick ran the 40-yard dash in 4.33 seconds; his time has been clocked as low as 4.25, the fastest-ever for an NFL quarterback."

Pryor reminds of Matt Jones without the crack. Like Jones, I thought Pryor could've been a standout WR with the size/speed he brings to the table. He's got the right attitude and work ethic to improve at QB, at least.

  9. Fin fan here..

I would not worry about Tannehills mobility as much as you guys seem to be doing... For some reason(dont ask why), we do not seem to move the pocket or roll him out as much as we should given our Oline and his athleticism.

I believe this could be a tight game, going either way. If we can run the ball even a little bit, we will be better than last week as i feel that clevelands D is a bit better than yours (be nice)

Our defense looked awesome...against Weeden. We look FAST and got to him with ease. Luck is more mobile and simply better than Weeden, and can beat us with his legs and arm.

Dimitri Patterson (2 int last week) left the game early and has not practiced yet this week, which concerns me. Grimes will play well at CB1, but we could get burnt at CB2 if Carroll is starting. If i were Indy, i would take shots deep to TY or DHB.

Use Fleener, we seem to get beat more often than not by opposing TE's, and you have two good ones.

As far as Miami, look for them to try to get Wallace the ball more, who only had 1 grab for 15 against CLE. Hartline and Tanne have great chemistry, and Gibson has been playing well inside.

How is your D at getting pressure without a blitz? It seems that RT likes throwing vs a blitz and can get the ball out. If you can pressure him and drop 6-7 in coverage consistantly, you should generate an INT or two.

Thanks for dropping by and good luck Sunday! Should be a great game.

    1) Seems like you guys use Tannehill in a similar way to how we use Luck in the sense that, although he can run, they usually try to avoid doing much of it. The main reason I'm concerned is that now that we've shown vulnerability to a mobile QB, I'm figuring that your coaches will adjust to try and capitalize on that until we show we can stop it.

    2) No offense taken about the Cleveland D- that's a talented, underrated squad with a great DC calling the shots. They're going to be trouble for a lot of teams that try to run on them.

    3) O-line and offensive pace is a concern for us- we will try to be balanced, but I hope we can pass a little more than last week. How we handle the pass rush will go a long way in determining that. If we can protect Luck, I think our passing attack will do some damage.

    4) As for our own pass rush, we're still working at getting consistent pressure. Our secondary can force turnovers and cover if we bring blitzers, but like any secondary, they can only cover for so long. If Tannehill buys time, Hartline will probably find a way to get open. I expect to see a few QB runs right up the gut to try and neutralize the edge rush from our OLB's and put pressure on our ILB's, who aren't great athletes.

  10. We've got to play a more uptempo game. Running only 49 offensive plays (16 less than the worst team in the NFL at it averaged last season) with the weapons we have in the passing game is simply a waste. I know there's an emphasis for building the power running game, but we need to give our offense more chances for its playmakers to make plays.

Part of that is on the D for keeping the opposition on the field, but I thought our own pace was too deliberate when we had the ball. It's only one game so I'm not terribly concerned, but it's something I'd like to see us turn around before it develops into a trend.

We also need better LB play. If they don't step it up in containment, Tannehill will also kill us with his mobility. I don't care if Pryor's a step faster -a lot of times, he beat us by more than that- and Tannehill's a better passer. Our LB's, particularly on the inside, need to take care of business a lot better than they did last Sunday.

On the bright side, our red zone scoring was stellar, and we're showing we know how to win close games . Should be an interesting matchup, and it's one where either team winning really wouldn't surprise me. We should win, but that's why they play the game.

  11. Kyle friggin' Long.

The rookie who was a punchline to a joke because of how overdrafted the draftniks thought he was, just shut out one of the best defenders in the league in Geno Atkins.

    Blanked him.

Easily the best rookie performance I saw yesterday. That dude had All-pro caliber athleticism coming out, and now that he's developing, he's going to be a force. The reports following the draft were that we were going to draft him regardless of who was left if he was available at 24, and I can see why.

  12. I hear you guys.  My point was that we don't necessarily want to NOT rush the passer when we face CK or RW.  Those guys are just as efficient passing the ball as they are running it (Russell more so IMHO).

I really think our game plan was to put pressure on Pryor but contain him at the same time.  When you do that, you can't put an all out rush on the QB because you're fearing he'll beat you with his legs.

Yes, playing against Pryor does give us practice chasing a mobile QB.  But our game plan (if I understood it correctly) would not be what we want to do against the other two.

And I hope we do get Tannihill to run.  He's no where near as fast as the others.

It's dangerous to underrate Tannehill's legs: he's run in the 4.5's and was a productive WR in college before switching to QB. He doesn't have the last breakaway gear that Kap does and isn't quite as elusive as Wilson, but If push comes to shove, I still don't like our LB's chances of breaking him down in the open field if he makes it past the first level of containment. Not unless we play better than we did today.

  13. We do need to pick our pace up because we ran a horribly low number of plays, but we scored TD's on almost half of our possessions in his first NFL game. I'm taking the same wait and see approach I did when we hired him. Patience, people.

  14. Today really exposed our lack of athleticism at ILB. That's a detail, but the main point of my post is this:

Our inability to get Oakland off the field and, to a lesser extent, our own slow offensive pace is a problem. Those two factors meant that not only did we lose the time of possession by 5 minutes (no biggie), Oakland got to run 13 more plays on offense than we did.

Most importantly, we only ran 49 offensive plays today and only had 7 full drives. Having such limited opportunities puts a lot of pressure on the offense to score every time we have the ball.  To put it in perspective, the average NFL team runs 64-65 plays a game. The Patriots last year ran about 74 plays per game, and we were third in the league at 70 plays per game. Tennessee was dead last last year and still averaged nearly 60 plays per game.

On the plus side, our red zone efficiency was superb (2-2 in converting TD's), but we've got to remedy the problem of having too few offensive snaps. All the talent in the world can't help if it stays on the bench.

  15. Angerer needs a nickname at this point...."fragile Pat", "Mr. China Doll",  The S.A.M. (see angerer mend)...."Roy Hall"

    Help me out

So guys give 100% and wind up with broken down bodies because of the violent nature of the game (Roy Hall nearly killed Cedric Killings on the field on a kickoff hit, which also seriously injured him), and we give them mocking nicknames for it?

Why not rip on Eric LeGrand for having a glass spine while we're at it?

  16. Best case scenario - Denver comes here... twice.  Then there are no worries.

BTW, thanks for going back to the old avatar.  That last one was disturbing.

I'm a man of my word, but needless to say, I was looking forward to opening day even more than usual this year  :)

  17. Thanks for the info. I didn't think it inhibited him from playing. Or effected his play.

No problem. It really shouldn't have too much of a negative effect on Cam's play (we may hold him out when we travel to Denver as a precaution) since everyone's aware of it, but it does help explain his drop on draft day as there is risk there (preventable though it may be). There's three h's to watch out for- high intensity exercise, high altitude, and heat. It shouldn't be surprising, then, that most fatalities and damage (sickling episodes can be non-fatal but still damaging) happen in summer conditioning, and typically among high school and college athletes.

With time to acclimate and Cam knowing and being honest about when enough is enough, it shouldn't be too big of an issue for him or us. He can and should be handled differently in certain situations, and we knew that when we traded for him.
