  1. Today was close to perfect for the Colts' playoff chances.

My hunch is, Pittsburgh is the team that ends up falling out. They're in that 7-win group (with a tie), but have a brutal schedule remaining: vs. Patriots, then at New Orleans, before finishing against the Bengals.

I think Pittsburgh finishes 8-7-1, and Baltimore overtakes them at 9-7. Chargers got one Wildcard spot locked up. My gut is telling me the final Wildcard spot is going to come down that Indy @ Tennessee game to end the season (which should be flexed to Sunday Night Football).

  2. I love the idea of adding a young, seemingly-talented player at a position of need. I love that he costs essentially nothing.

That said, he's one more violation away from a two-year suspension.

Let's say he performs exceptionally well here, and looks like he could be a core piece of the team, talent-wise and age-wise.

How comfortable are you people with investing in a guy who's one violation away from a two-year suspension?

  3. A backup quarterback of Jacoby's caliber is a nice luxury, but we have too many needs to afford any luxuries at the moment. Unless the trade market is utter crap, I'd ship him out to help fill gaps in the roster. It's better for us, and I'm sure Jacoby wouldn't object to being given the opportunity to be a full-time starter elsewhere.

A tie against a division opponent is better than a loss. How do you not see that.

A win against a division opponent is better than a tie.

Convert a basic fourth-and-four, and you most likely win the game.

Punt the ball, and you're looking at a best-case scenario of 1-2-1, with the possibility of losing still on the table.

    You're telling me you'd prefer a cowardly coach who's content with 1-2-1 over a coach who's a fourth-and-four conversion away from 2-2?

The real irony is, for years we've had coaches whose conservative play calling we've hated. We finally have one making a completely reasonable aggressive call, and we hate him for it.

    Craziness.

  5. I loved the team going for it on fourth-and-four. I do it again in a heartbeat in the same situation.

If you punt, you're settling for best-case scenario of a tie and a 1-2-1 record. Is anyone happy with a coach who's content with that? I'm not.

Give me the coach who goes for it on fourth-and-four with the greatest kickers in NFL history, and fights to get back to .500 any day of the week.

Sure, it didn't end up as we hoped for, but that's hindsight judgement.

  6. Leonard is #1 in ESPN's top 10 rookies . . .

    Quote

    1. Darius Leonard, LB, Indianapolis Colts

    Stats: 30 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 TFL, 1 FF, 1 FR, 2 PDs

    Previous ranking: 10

Sure, the Colts are 1-2, but Leonard, a second-round pick, has done plenty of heavy lifting, having played every snap on defense so far this season -- 211 snaps and counting.

Except its not about disrespecting the anthem.

Then why are they so insistent on doing it during the anthem? Why not during the coin toss, or on the sideline during the opening kickoff?

When you protest during the anthem, you're creating the strong impression that you're protesting the anthem, and this (rightfully) is viewed as disrespectful by a significant portion of the American population.

If you're truly not intending to protest the anthem, then you would be eager to end the confusion by moving the protests to some other time during the course of the game. But, they're not. They're insistent that they protest during the anthem. Which means one thing . . .

    It's about the anthem.

They can say it's not all they want. Actions speak far louder than words.

  8. One NFL draft expert said Barkley was the best RB prospect since Adrian Peterson. Another, Gil Brandt, went a step further, saying Barkley was the best since Barry Sanders nearly 30 years ago.

Fournette, Elliott, and Gurley were all highly-touted backs, but Barkley is simply on another level as a prospect. Barkley living up to his hype, coupled with Luck returning from injury, gives us the building blocks for an unstoppable offense, which is what wins Super Bowls these days.

  9. The question isn't simply running back vs. pass rusher.

The question is one of the best running back prospects of all-time vs. a pass rusher who would be a mid-1st round pick in most drafts.

If we were looking at prospects of the same level, then yeah, I'd probably lean towards the pass rusher, but we're not. We're talking about the Andrew Luck of running backs, to pair up with the Andrew Luck of quarterbacks.

As far as being able to find running backs throughout the draft . . . true, but the same can be said for elite pass rushers. Here are the top 10 finishers in sacks the past two seasons:

    2017

    21 (Chandler Jones)
    50 (Calais Campbell)
    34 (DeMarcus Lawrence)
    100 (Everson Griffen)
    24 (Cameron Jordan)
    16 (Ryan Kerrigan)
    3 (Joey Bosa)
    5 (Ezekiel Ansah)
    31 (Cameron Hayward)
    69 (Yannick Ngakoue)

    2016

    8 (Vic Beasley)
    2 (Von Miller)
    UFA (Lorenzo Alexander)
    58 (Markus Golden)
    88 (Danielle Hunter)
    92 (Cliff Avril)
    UFA (Cameron Wake)
    21 (Chandler Jones)
    16 (Ryan Kerrigan)
    5 (Khalil Mack)
    28 (Nick Perry)

    167 (Erik Walden)

There's plenty of pass rushing talent outside of round one.

    What if they go 1 & 2?

Then every QB in the draft is available at #3, and we've got tons of teams bidding for it, allowing us to pull in a king's ransom.

    Chubb.Barkley. King's ransom. We're sitting pretty at #3.

  11. Someone might wanna inform Josh McDaniels that Andrew Luck's backup outperformed Marcus Mariota this year, despite being placed in a much tougher situation.

With that said, it's a self-correcting situation for the Colts.

    Think about it.

If McDaniels chooses the hot mess in Tennessee over Andrew Luck, Saquon Barkley, and $80M in capspace to work with, he's basically telling the world he's the same * who flopped in Denver, and the Colts end up dodging a bullet. If he goes with the Colts, well then, maybe he's not.

  12. Eh . . . you can find great players at all positions all throughout the draft; I have no idea why people act like that argument only applies to running backs.

Personally, I'd take the potentially generational talent in Barkley over the non-elite prospects others are discussing. The thought of seeing Luck play next to an all-world running back for the next 5-10 years excites me more than any woman ever could.
