  1. Where does this say the colts are one of the teams?

Twitter works funny--when somebody "retweets" somebody else, they make their comments at the beginning of the tweet. Essentially the conversation was like this:

Ian Rapoport: What’s going on with Browns center Alex Mack? I’m told 4 teams have been in contact on varying levels. Waiting for the frenzy to die down

Twitter user: Are the Colts on those teams?

Ian Rapoport: On Alex Mack? Yes. Ravens, too.

  2. Certainly can tell Pagano is a defensive mind. He's apparently green-lighted the release of many of our offensive stars while retaining our defensive stars. Which is why I feel our draft is going to be heavily oriented toward the offense. Which gives me some hope that Fleener may be a Colts next year.

We released two offensive and two defensive guys, excluding Manning. And Manning wasn't his decision at all.

  3. nevis could play NT. TE is our biggest need

Nevis can not play 3-4 NT

Like Peytonparker said, there is no way Nevis can play NT in a 2-gap 3-4 scheme. 1-gap, yeah maybe. Nevis is now a DE, and will be more of a rotational guy. I wish we had gotten him 3 or 4 years ago, he would've been a beast in our schemes under Polian. Now, I am not sure what to expect out of him, especially after being on IR last year.

  4. When will Colts fans stop counting marginal NFL starters as "finds". The only "find" we've had in recent years was Bethea.

Pierre Garcon was, I believe, a 6th rounder? That's a find. Austin Collie was a 4th rounder. That's definitely a find, considering he was on pace to have a phenomenal year in 2010 before the concussions. Austin Collie is very good, look for him to be a huge contributor this year. Jerraud Powers, while not a "find," is definitely better than pff gave him credit for. As is Pat Angerer. Jacob Tamme lead the league in receptions once he took over as starter in 2010--that's a find.

Edit: Not to mention, they found one of the best punters in the league.

  5. What's a more pressing need than TE. Our current starter at TE is Brody Eldridge. I think it's out biggest need. There is no better player available (basing it off his projections) than Fleener. He's the best TE in the draft and he has a great bond with Luck. Also, his athleticism is one of the best I've ever seen from a TE.

Barring a FA signing, our biggest need is NT. Our defense will fail without one, and we don't have one.

  6. StampedeBlue (of course--they take shots at the Polians whenever possible) tweeted this article from profootballfocus, which points out the flaws in our past three drafts but, IMO, doesn't give us enough credit for our finds, and doesn't take into account our drafting position. However, it is an interesting, mostly objective look at our drafting, and makes me look forward to seeing what Grigson and co. can do in a couple weeks (Boy that's getting close!!!).

    http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/04/03/draft-grader-indianapolis-colts/

To improve upon this article, I think they need to compare our drafts (and draft position) to other teams, and look at injuries during each player's collegiate and professional careers to pinpoint if it was the Colts' fault for drafting an injury-plagued player or if injuries were just bad luck.

Also, if this has been posted already and/or should be in the Draft section, feel free to move it or merge/delete it!

  7. I love how you assume that all of us who like our classic look are "oldies". I for one am not old. At all.

It's also a little narrow minded to think that all older people don't want change. A word of advice for you (just so you don't upset someone in the future): don't make sterotypical generalization assumptions. I know many "oldies" as you call them that would love a change in the uniform. Likewise, I know many younger people (like myself) who happen to like the classic look we have now.

I agree with KarlKuffs that gray would probably not look good with our blue, but I also think that black with our blue would look gross. So, why even do an alternate look?

I will go back and restate something I said earlier on this thread. There are certain teams in this league that could do a more modern look, and then there are teams that need (in my opinion) to remain with their classic look, such as: the Packers, the Steelers, the Cowboys, and us. I might also add the Chiefs and 49ers to that list. It's about honoring the history of the NFL for me.

I'm not arguing for or against changing the uniforms (I would take a judge-it-once-I-see-it approach, like always), but I DO know that (at least) the Packers and Steelers have throwback jerseys that are much different than their current jerseys. You can honor history while at the same time also throwing in a touch different here or there throughout the ages. Don't get me wrong, I love the Colts unis and am glad to see them unchanged, and I recognize that little things have been changed (usually unsuccessfully) on their jerseys, but I tend to try to have more of an open mind regarding things.

  8. I agree - 8-8 is doable. Heck, we could have gone maybe 5-11 if Dan O had started earlier in the season. Looking forward to see Pagano prowling and growling on the sidelines. And a bunch of new players eager to prove themselves.

Had that happened, do you think we'd be in this situation right now? Ala, do you think Polian and Manning would still be here? I'm so excited to start this new era and get some change, but I'm going to miss those guys SO much.

  9. Of the following players the Colts currently have on the roster:

    91 Mathews, Ricardo DT

    92 Hughes, Jerry DE

    94 Nevis, Drake DT

    95 Moala, Fili DT

    97 Addison, Mario DE

    99 Johnson, Antonio DT

    64 Ogbu, Ollie DT

    Peguese, Brandon DE

    Hickman, Justin DE

    Redding, Corey DE

I think the OL coach can find at least one among them to convert into a viable NT.

Like others have said, I just really don't see an adequate NT on our team. Our DTs last year weren't even good ONE-gap players, let alone tossing them in there to play TWO gaps. They'd be manhandled. They aren't big or fast enough.

  10. Luck looked great, so did Fleener. However, for all those that are drooling over Fleener and want to take him at 34, do you not remember how atrocious our defense was last year? It would be nice if we had say the 33rd and 34th pick, in which I would definitely take a CB/NT AND Fleener (if available). However, CB/NT are bigger needs than a pass-catching TE. We are going to run the ball more, meaning we will rely on our TEs to block more. That's why we have Eldridge, who excels at blocking. Guarantee that we take a defensive player over Fleener if there is a good prospect there at 34.

  11. As a vast majority of people have suggested, prior to Dallas Clark's wrist injury, he was an exceptional blocking TE catching passes across the middle that often got him "jacked up." Even Sean Payton during the 2009 Superbowl, audio tape can be heard with Payton saying "Can somebody stop Dallas Clark please?!!!"

If Clark's wrist never does return to form, I would be hard pressed to see any NFL squad take a flyer on him even at the Vet minimum. If you can't block or catch the ball on a consistent basis, your usefulness on the field of play becomes null & void. I don't want to see Clark end his proud Colts career this way, but if I were the GM there is no way I could justify signing him to a 1 year contract either. I would work him out throwing 50-80 balls in rapid succession just to see what his pain threshold is & how many balls hit the ground. If I don't like what I see, I'm not signing him. Yes, it is cruel, but in the NFL you must balance current production Vs. locker room loyalty.

    50-80? How about a more realistic 20-40.

  12. It would probably be more alarming than interesting.

First tweet; "Can't get leprechaun to confess. Where is the gold, simple question! That UPS uniform isn't fooling me, tell me what you know. I've killed so many leprechauns and they often confess but it never leads me to their gold. They are a tricky race. Always snooping around pretending to be delivering packages".

Tweets have to be 140 characters or less. ;)

  13. Hey now don't get ahead of yourself...Wheeler isn't gone just yet (unless I missed a post or news update which is entirely possible). I really do hope we're able to keep him. I think he'd be a great addition to the new 3/4 hybrid defense. :)

I'm not sure he's been signed yet, but I believe I read he's visiting somewhere (Dolphins maybe?). I am pretty certain we won't resign him though. If we were going to, we already would have.

  14. According to Tom Condon, no talks between the Colts and Freeney have taken place regarding his contract being restructured. Take it for what it's worth, of course, but this could indicate, if true, that they are still planning on trading him or flat out cutting him, or it could mean that the are just keeping him at his current cap hit.

updated to include an estimate of Satele at $10.5MM; 3 years; $5MM upfront; 0.8, 2.5, 2.5 salaries http://espn.go.com/n...ianapolis-colts

    (all $ in MM)

    47 players under contract = $74.67

    Dead cap space = $37.83

    Total current 2012 cap hit = $112.50

    Salary Cap = $120.6

    Add 2011 cap rollover = $2.5

Add cap space awarded by league (Cowboys/Redskins penalty) = $1.6

    New Salary Cap = $124.7

    Budgeting for draft picks

    Luck = $4.20

8 draft picks (to reflect the remainder of our draft picks including compensatory picks) at rookie minimum= $3.12

    Premiums for picks #34 and #65 = $1.5

Total budgeted cap hits for draft picks = $8.82

Available Cap Space w/o budget for draft picks = $12.20

Available Cap Space w/budget for draft picks = $3.37

If this is true, we should probably stop spending. We need some wiggle room in-case there is a big injury in the season where we need to trade or sign somebody. Of course, you're using estimates of everything so I believe that it's possible that we could have something around $5-6MM if we played our cards right.

  16. i do like this signing but i also question why we sign 4 fa o-linemen? As far as i was concerned we only needed a OT and C i know about depth but Pollack is a borderline starter with only one center and guard our depth was fine but we get 4 olinemen? Where is our NT and CB we desperately need those but i am glad Luck and Donald Brown will have a solid O-LINE

Pollack is a free agent and has yet to resign with us. With this signing, pretty sure he's gone.

It sounds like another great pick up. I loving Grigs and Pags! They are hitting hard in the FA market. Hope they can hit it hard in the draft next month. Makes me excited to watch the draft this year :). The Polians draft you knew what you were going to get draft duds, no excitement and very boring to watch! Grant it they did well with Manning. Freeney and a few others. But that was about it. That was just a few.

You're kidding, right? Polian was one of the best GMs at the draft... ever. Look up some statistics some time to see how he compares to other GMs around the league. He's consistently been one of the best every single year he was here with us.

EDIT: Not to say I'm not loving Grigson thus far, by the way. Great FA moves so far, and I'm really excited to see what he can do in the draft room. The ignorance you displayed towards Polian is what prompted me to reply to you.

  17. With the Broncos I know they wanted to upgrade from Tebow but it's like Elway would do ANYTHING to get rid of him and it had to be a bigger name so the fans could understand the reasoning in the end.

Not a bigger name, a better quarterback. If you were him, and you didn't like your franchise quarterback (because he's awful as a passer) but your fanbase did (because he's a celebrity), wouldn't you have done the same thing?
