He's as big as Andrew & Ben plus he can throw from the pocket & he's just as mobile as all 3. Is he on their level yet? Of course not. But if you don't see some similarities between Bortles & those 3 then IDK what to tell you. Ben even said it himself last year prior to their game in Jacksonville that Bortles is a younger version of him.
So he's the only rookie QB to have a God awful 1st year? Ever hear of the names Peyton Manning & Troy Aikman? I'm sorry that he couldn't lead the Jags to 11-5 like Andrew did us back in 2012 or 15-1 & an AFCC appearance like Ben did Pittsburgh.
We can agree the Jags are rebuilding, right? That means they're gonna have a young team & they're gonna go through growing pains(just like we did in 1998 & 2012 with our rookie QBs & other teams in general)
Skillset wise yes he's comparable to the guys I mentioned. Obviously right now he's nowhere near their level in terms of how they can routinely take over games & how they have their teams in the hunt for AFC/NFC supremacy annually.
All that was said was that I believe the guy is gonna be good. Is it a guarantee that he will? Of course not, which is why we'll have to see hoe things play out this season & beyond. It's not like I'm putting him 1st ballot HOF & how he'll bring Jacksonville a handful of SBs.
Peyton didn't have a bad year, he had the most TD passes by a rookie ever. He just threw picks. Bortles was the worst starting QB in the NFl. Big difference.

oh my god. This "the jags are gonna be sp00ky scary!" Narrative has gone on long enough.Agreed. His skillset rivals Luck, Rodgers, & Roethlisberger.
Here's the thing, Bortles was god awful last year. With and without pressure the guy was bad, so it's not "his team's fault" at least exclusively.
In the offseason they added an injury prone receiving TE (already out for the first month), a rookie DE who tore his ACL and then was given a fully guaranteed deal (smart, Jags) and otherwise mostly just hoped for development.
Their coach that everyone loves simply because he's "high energy" has not shown in his two or three years the ability to win games. If he were a great coach you'd at least expect improvement by now, no?
And the GM hasn't shown anything either, except that he's made the team young. Youth doesn't mean anything if the players are no good, and/or aren't developed/coached well.
And then people worship Khan, when let's be honest, the only thing an owner needs to do is to pay and stay out of the way. Plenty of owners do that, including our very own Jim Irsay, and yet he is shown in a bad light by the media and consequently fans who are sheep and can't form their own opinions. Way too many people think he is a bad owner, but Khan is amazing because he built swimming pools.
When the Jags show me a reason to believe they've turned the corner I'll accept it, but I'm not just gonna sit back and comment on how scary the Jags are gonna be with no proof or reason to believe it whatsoever.
/rantoff Sorry man, this isn't so much just to you (although comparable to three of the best QBs in the league, really?) but to everyone who coddles the Jags for some reason. No hostility intended.

Ever hate a guy as a prospect but not want to be right? That's how I felt about Ball. At least it helped me avoid drafting him early in fantasy last year.
-
True. They are taking a risk here, if Luck or Matt goes down, there is no backup ready who knows the system.
If we not only lose Luck but lose Matt too, no PS eligible QB will save our season. But we should really pick up Austin Davis.

Who is that speaking in the background?
-
Seahawks fans and writers loved the guy.
-
He showed nothing. I don't care about this
-
Good guy Reggie Wayne- when he's done, signs with rival to take up spot on the team for preseason and cost them money when he asks to be cut.
-
Re-sign Studebaker, we need the STs. And pick up Joe Mays maybe.
-
Thats not blunt, that's what cutting him says.Wow, Chip Kelly is BLUNT in his assessment of Tebow...... said "Tim has progressed, but right now he's just not good enough to be our number 3"
-
Reggie Wayne has been cut, per ESPN app

Update:
A source just told me that #Patriots WR Reggie Wayne “will not be on 53.” Added, “he will not be there."

A league source tells me the Patriots are calling teams, shopping around for a big-bodied receiver.

September 5, 2015Of the four players absent, two were cut, one was placed on PUP, and then there's Wayne. He hasn't played well in preseason. The writing may be on the wall. I'm very conflicted on what I want because I don't want Reg to have such an unceremonious end but it would be nice if he only played as a Colt..

Yeah I guess I'm not sure on that. They're playing by the court's rules rather than the NFL's I think.Which is shocking to me, because the NFL CBA says you don't need that definitive evidence, so I'm not sure how the court can overturn this.
-
It's pretty clear he did it, but in court you need definitive evidence rather than a lot of breadcrumbs leading to the obvious. The biggest loss here is that now Pats fans will say it's been proven he didn't do it, which is not what this verdict means at all.
-
Stranger aka worse? Maybe not honestly. If they'd traded Kaep it would be the definitive worst IMO. Losing their starting QB is the only thing missing from this dumpster fire. Jed York is a *

Tyler Varga.

Didn't the Seahawks used to brag about this? They'd like send pamphlets to UDFAs. Did they not this or last year or something?
-
It's funny how the rest of the top 5 all had one good season then busted hard.

Wait, 92 speed? What the heck?

I know, I know: "It's preseason" but regardless of this game, I am sick of this team investing nothing but late round picks on the OL, and only signing washed up vets or mediocre players and plugging them in. Sign an actual freaking good lineman and address the worst part of the team since Luck was drafted.

Can't we just put Mewhort back at LG where he belongs?

To the last sentence,
Maybe I'm not scared, but watched him play last year and saw he was the worst starting QB in the league.
