I am actually happy. the colts got rid of a GM who was average at best when accessing talent. They got rid of a poor head coach. They cut loose a soon to be 36 yr old qb who is one hit away from being in a wheel chair, they r going to finally address the defensive deficiencies which have kept the colts from being a dynasty. sunny days r on the horizon.

he is not going to fit into the offense of the future so why not get what you can while you can. trades have to benefit both sides so we get a first rounder this year and the other team gets a pass rushing end which fits their style.
it has to be the right style of defense for him. he is not a big defensive end by any stretch of the imagination.
I am excited to see the colts going to a more aggressive and larger defensive front.. it was rediculus the players we trotted out last year. then you have GM drafting Pat Angerer in the 2nd round when he could have been had in the 4th round. polian was no draft genius by any stretch to the imagination. look how many lineman were washouts and some where even high draft picks.
-
I like the fact Irsay cleaned house. Polian in ability to find quality players, especially on defense and oline along with Dungy's small ball defense cost the colts a good 3 super bowl appearances. you look at the side of defenders on tampa bay vs the colts it was night and day.

I think Brett Farve and Payton Manning were poorly served by their respective organizations. THe packers will unwilling to get the necessary wide receivers for brett to throw to and the colts kept trying to convience totting out on defense small players who routinely got pushed around.
I wonder how many super bowls Payton Manning would have won had he played for the pittsburgh steelers. during his time they had the best defense and a running game. I bet Payton would have more than Brady has.
-
I do not blame him for wanting to get the max amount. he has a few years left to play.
-
I think he will come to Indy. we have a new offesnive coordinator who plans to inject a power run game with over the top play action. we have a new DC who runs an aggressive 34/43 hybrid scheme. we r going to get bigger on defense instead to trotting out undersized players.
-
You do not know if that is the case. Mere speculation.
ESPN reported this. Manning wanted money he really did not earn as he did not play. He could have wavied the bonus and signed a new contract but he did not. He chose to leave. I know this is a bitter pill for Payton Manning fans to believe but it is true. The same thing happned in Green Bay with Brett Farve.
-
I find it interesting how people are blaming the colts administration for this. If payton manning wanted to be a colt he could have waived the 28 M bonus and signed a high incentive laden contract. He did not want to. this is a business decision and nothing else.

you need to throw in the 4th rounder of the skins as well to make it worth the points.
according to the draft chart the #2 pick is worth 2600 pts.
the redskins pick at #6 is worth 1600, the second rounder is worth 510 pts and 3rd rounder is worth 240pt this only adds up to 2340 points even with the 4th rounder you are still short the points.

you saw how nasty the Packers/Favre divorce was. I would expect the same here. I would also expect there will be Luck haters and Colts fans who will still be wearing manning jerseys even after he is gone
-
But now, they love Aaron Rodgers. See how fickle fans can be?
i agree they love him now but it was hard times for the first year. I expect the same. i have not followed the colts as closely since Jim Caldwell was hired. I always felt manning could have been to more super bowls had colts org. invested in a better defense. it was nice to draft donald brown but when your defense is sieve it does not do you much good. the colts had too much ying and not enough yang over the years thus creating an imbalance. my hope is they do not go all the way over to the other side and be a defense only team like the ravens and niners.
-
when I say it is going to get ugly I also mean for Andrew Luck. Manning fans will continually find ways to put him down. it is just the nature of the game. so when the colts have bad times with a rookie qb, and they will you will see the cracks in the colt fans who really were manning fans.
-
My brother in law lives in Green Bay. He was there when the packers divorced brett farve. It was ugly, fans trying to tick on Aaron Rodgers booing him.
It is going to get ugly and that is just how it is.

mathis at best is a situational pass rusher in any defense. He is undersized and has been a detriment to the colts defense for years. it is not his fault the colts thought they could get away with a 235 lb DE.
-
the vikings are already happy with their de opposite allen. they have a platoon set up in Robison and Griffen. both are fairly young and they are much, much bigger then Mathis.

I just do not see Freeney fitting into the new 34 D. He is too small to be a 34 Defensive lineman and I think he lacks the mobility to be an outside linebacker. you look at the steelers defensive line their ends are tall both at 6-5 and their nose is 6-1 325.
-
robert mathis might be able to make the move to linebacker but he is a free agent. then again who wants a 6-2 235 pound defensive end.
-
Clearly the Colts are moving the direction of a 34 D. With that said, i wonder how Dwight Freeney is going to factor in the new defensive plans. He is 6-1 and 270 so he is very small to a be a defensive end in a 34D. I just do not see him becoming an outside linebacker. he is a pro bowl player who could yield some draft picks which could be used on defensive players who fit the 34D.

FYI, Luck comes from Stanford, a pro-style power running, run-first football team. You can't get more ground and pound than that. Yet he managed to throw for all those yards and TDs to raise eyebrows everywhere.
In 2011 the Stanford Cardinals did not have any wr talent yet Andrew Luck threw for 3500s. IN 2010 He threw for 3350. so them being this power run team was a load of hog wash.

If I were luck I would tell the colts not to draft me. the new head coach is a defensive guy. defensive guys do not like offense period. you can say tony D was a defensive guy but the fact is he played qb in college and became a db in the pros. The new head coach comes from baltimore where they have a very solid qb but they do not want to let him stretch his legs so to speak. If youw ant to see the future of the Colts look to Balitmore. The days of throwing the ball with manning are done. it will be 3.5 yds and a cloud of dust for the future. Same thing is happening in pittsburgh. the steelers plan to make big ben a kerry Collins or trent dilfer care takeer qb and he is not happy. Tomlin let the OC go and plans to hire a ground and pound style OC.

sure he has been a high effort rudy kind of player. it still does not make up for the fact he was over drafted. unless he makes 6 or more pro bowls over his career his pick was of poor value.
