  1. not taking anything away from big ben's achievements, but he does have a great defense.

I agree, a great defense. But he's also a great player. It seems he has had his share of great drives at the end of games (SB 43 and most recently, in the loss to the Broncos).

It doesn't diminish Peyton Manning to acknowledge the skill of another QB. Some Colts fans (not just on this board) seem to feel you're disloyal if you say anything good about a rival QB. Note that two posters "LOL"d my statement about "elite". Eli Manning elite? Why? Because he is Peyton's brother? (not saying he isn't, but compare the tone of posts about Eli to posts about other QBs).

  2. You seriously just put Big Ben and the word ELITE in the same sentence? LOL

Yep, sure did. Here's some compilation of stats from Wikipedia.

Roethlisberger earned the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2004 and his first Pro Bowl selection in 2007. He became the youngest Super Bowl-winning quarterback in NFL history, helping lead the Steelers, in his second professional season, to a 21–10 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL at the age of 23. Roethlisberger led the Steelers to a second Super Bowl title in four seasons as they defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, 27–23, after completing a game-winning touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes in the final 35 seconds.

Roethlisberger has been one of the most efficient passers in NFL history. He currently ranks 10th all-time in NFL passer rating (92.9), 5th in yards per attempt (8.06), and 11th in completion percentage (63.24%) among quarterbacks with a minimum of 1,500 career attempts. He has the fourth highest career winning percentage (.710) as a starter in the regular season among quarterbacks with a minimum of 100 starts.

You serously think you can discard those acheivements? LOL.

  3. I'm drawing a blank. Who was the elite QB?

Big Ben is an elite quarterback. He plays a different style than PM or TB. He's very effective, and is a proven winner. Steelers may have gone further had he not been banged up so bad. Had they gotten past the Broncos, they stack up well against the Patriots. After that, they would have to win the third meeting with the Ravens. What's the chance the Ravens go 3-0 against the Steelers?

  4. What? Money? Please don't get me started on those man. If we have Luck and Manning together on the roster next year, we will essentially be doing the same thing this year with what we did with Collins, only this time Luck inplace of Collins would be an investment for the long-term instead of 1 year bench warmer.

Yes - money. What did Collins cost this year, compared to what Luck will get (somewhere) next year?

  5. Call it daft, but the fact that he was finally in another commercial seemed positive to me. Usually, when he is healthy, he's in 3 or 4 different commercials. All season, he was injured, and not in any commercials. FInally, he makes an appearance in at least one (it will be interesting if he shows up in any Super Bowl commercials), and it seems to me almost like a "back to the norm" kind of thing. Hopefully he will be back in blue next season!

Maybe not playing affects his value as an endorser?

  6. Hiring Gruden assures that Peyton Manning is back and starts at QB next season..

AND that Andrew Luck is drafted to sit behind him..and take over in 3-4 years

That's the only way Gruden is gong to come out of retirement (on Easy Street) to get back in the NFL wars

Why do you want the Colts to draft Andrew Luck, but have him sit for 3-4 years? That's not a good way to develop a QB. Especially one who thinks he can play in the NFL.

If management knew Manning was healed, ready to compete at a high level for 3-4 years, why would they spend the the #1 pick on a guy to ride the pine?

  7. OK, "what if" Manning decides that he is not 100% and retires, Would you like to see him as a Colts coach? QB, OC or both ? I would love to see this happen if/when Manning decides to hang up his cleats.

This kind of thinking is due to fan hysteria about Manning playing for another team.

  8. I don't know exactly know how contracts work so I was wondering if anyone knows how it works.

Where does this 28 million exist in Peyton contract?

His base salary is 7.4 million, has a signing bonus for 4 million, a misc. bonus of 5.6 million, and I guess that means a cap hit of 17 million. Minus the signing and misc bonus does that mean 18.4 million is just "expendable money?" I could be wrong about this.

    Now here Andrew says,

Now based on Cam Newton's contract, number one draft pick in the 2011 draft, he made $375 thousand in base salary and $3.6295 million in a signing bonus. That gave him a $4.0045 million cap hit against the Panthers.

So based on this combined Peyton and the number one draft choice will be a $21 million cap hit against the Colts. I don't know where Andrew Brandt got $50.5 million total. By what Andrew says it would be around a $32 million cap hit.

Also what is the total the Colts are aloud on the Cap hit?

I don't understand the salary cap, but regardless of cap hit, wouldn't it cost the Colts $50 million to have both Manning and Luck?
