Guys he’s being compared too include Chalk and Paris Campbell in terms of the type of player he will be in the NFL.  Should push Pierce for sure.

Really? I haven't seen those comparisons, and if that is happening, I do not agree with them at all. Especially Campbell, who was a clear slot guy right from the start, whereas Mitchell is a a clear X with the potential to be a number 1 receiver as an X.

  2. I'm not sure if he is feeling some pressure to win this year, but he has definitely put on a little belly and the hair is not a good look for him. Some men (not many) are able to pull off long hair, Ballard is not one of them.

I am always an advocate for balance with leaning toward the team building concept of filling needs.  All things being reasonably close to equal, I would then opt for need 10/10 times.  This case, though, certainly sounds like BPA far out weighed need.  I have no problem with the pick.

From your previous posts before this one, it seems like you really wanted a CB. I don't understand why anyone thinks its smart to spend a first round pick on a CB when he will be sitting in a soft zone 70% of the time in a Gus Bradley defense.

There are not many benefits of deploying a defense that was at its heights in 2014 when it is 2024 and been exploited for years now, but one of the few upsides is you do not need to spend premium picks on CBs to make it work, and yet some fans want to spend first round picks on CBs. 🤨

  4. One other thing I take as a big positive is that one of the criticisms of AD was that he got a pretty low amount of targets...in the context of, why is such an insanely talented WR getting so few targets in college?

The positive I am choosing to take from here is that there are no reports of him complaining about the lack of targets, no WR diva stuff from what I have seen. I expect if he lives up to his massive talent, that won't be something that comes up in the pros.

  5. You can't be upset at the talent at all...talent wise he would have been a good pick at 15. We aren't in the interviews, so who knows, but Ballard seems adamant that its all nonsense. Cool, hope he is right.

This is where coaches are paid to coach, if Reggie and Steichen earn their money, AD has the talent to be a true number 1 receiver, and make our receiving corps complete. Hope they can do it.

  6. I normally do not think Ballard would be looking to trade up, but I just have a feeling that this could be the year. I go back to his comment about needing more explosiveness on offense, and while some of the day 2 WRs can be said to provide that, I really think getting a MHJ or Nabors would really provide a different level of explosiveness to this offense.

While your QB is on his rookie contract you should do everything in your power to support him with great weapons to help him develop. Hopefully he does develop and once you have to pay him and you can't afford to pay to keep lots of great weapons, he is then at the level that he can lift the players around him.

If you do block her let me know what the forum looks like after.  I've always imagined that like half the threads would disappear

I have and not as much disappeared as I had hoped. When you block a super high volume poster, you still see them constantly when everyone quotes them in their posts.

The last thing you want to do in a deep class like this year’s is to miss out on talent because of a need.

This is an extremely deep WR class. So need and talent overlap perfectly in this case. If they come into the season with the same WR core plus some day 3 picks, I think they are failing to give Richardson the best chance to succeed this year.

This is probably how Ballard's actual draft may look like...

I don't see it. Ballard said in the end of season press conference the team needed more explosiveness on offense, and considering they never were going to add any explosive elements in FA, that will have to be in the draft.

If you take him at his word that they really do need to add those type of playmakers on offense, I don't think he can possibly sell anyone that it was adequately addressed using all day 3 picks. There will have to be a WR/Bowers added somewhere on Day 1 or 2.

The Pierce grab was superior stuff also.

The one grab he had was great, but the contested catch he didn't make at the end of regulation that would have put the ball inside the 5 was not. Definitely not an easy catch, but you need a WR2 to make that catch with the game on the line. So far he has not shown the ability to make a tough catch when the defender makes a play on the ball.

  11. So many people here, and elsewhere online, were freaking out about Gay missing a short field goal in the preseason. Thought that was laughable then, and even moreso now.

A lot of folks like to make fun of kickers and punters, which never makes any sense to me, because they make more of a direct impact on whether a team wins and loses than many other positions on the team.

oh yeah, im not saying he beats out anybody, but he was decent and was a smaller back but man he had some energy to him, he really did have some shining moments next to Luck

I liked Herron, he was a fun little player and had a great game in the playoff victory against the Bengals. 10 carries for 56 yds and a TD plus 10 receptions for 85 yds and another TD.

Someone a bit more obscure, but I liked Brad Scioli who had a really nice year in 2002. He started 13 games and had 7 sacks at DT, which was really great production for interior lineman.

Grover has already signed a second contract. Our punter is making more then JT. Ashton Dulin was signed for more then JT.

Ok, then how about throwing Pittman a little extra money this year? It's beyond silly to suggest just giving a player more money because he is upset he isn't getting an extension. What a horrible precedent it would create.

I know colts don’t want to extend JT yet but I wonder if there was ever a thought of st lest giving him some extra money this year. Maybe it would of made him feel appreciated.

How many other players are you going to just give extra money to without an extension? Because I'd love to hear them explain to the locker room why he is getting more money for no apparent reason other than to make him feel better.

  15. The look on Ballard's face when asked about why its been so long after the surgery and he still isn't ready to play "He still has pain in his ankle" 🤣

I think those that said they are planning to use the 4 PUP weeks to try to repair the relationship are right, while still leaving options open on what to do with the PUP and tolling the contract by maintaining he still has pain in the ankle.

Can we agree that no one is paying a RB for their pass blocking?

I don't get the concern about his pass catching. He's not McCaffrey, but he can produce as a receiver if he gets targeted.

I'm still not lining up to pay a RB, but I don't think Taylor is deficient.

I absolutely think a RB's pass blocking skills are a factor in if you want to extend a RB. When you can't pick up the blitz, it limits your ability to have them on the field on third down.

Taylor is a below average receiving RB, not sure why everyone wants to make it seem like it is anything other than that. He has below average hands and has an extremely limited route tree as a receiver. If you can get him the ball on a swing pass in space and allow him to build up speed he can make big gains, but he is nothing more than a C- as a receiver. If I am paying a RB, I want him to be able to do more than what he is able to do.

Taylor is elite in a traditional "take the handoff from the QB" sense, but in all the other ways you can separate yourself in modern football he is below average.

What do you mean by "incomplete," and how does that relate to his value in the NFL?

I mean he is not good in pass protection and not a natural receiver. I've seen a lot of pushback here on his receiving...he is fine running screens or short dump offs, but he is isn't running WR routes like a McCaffrey.

If I am paying a back, he needs to be like Edge. Great running the ball, elite pass protector and very natural receiving skills. And even when we had Edge, the Colts didn't pay him.
