"We need to be more explosive"
Ballard quote
IMHO that means a field stretching WR
We can get that in round 1 or 2
I see playmaking FS, Stud DE, dynamic WR s as a MUCH, MUCH, bigger needs than a CB or TE in round 1
My hope is that we grab a DE in FA (prolly not gonna happen)
My hope is that we come out of round 1 with Brian Thomas or AD Mitchell
My hope is that we get one of the FS in draft, or in FA
I watched both players vs Alabama this year.
Brian Thomas had a so so game, he was MOSTLY shutdown by the Alabama DBs
Mitchell was many times uncoverable and made the Alabama CBs that will be first round
CBs look stuck in glue
Bowers is great to think about, but it looks like Ogletree will be playing this year, not as good as Bowers, but
there was a chemistry between AR and he, early on
Bowers could also make us more explosive. Not only is he capable of explosive plays himself, but his presence could free up some of our other guys. I’m a Bama fan, so I don’t like Georgia at all. Bowers was the real deal from day 1 as a true freshman, though. When your team played against UGA, he was a guy you definitely kept an eye on.
That said, I wouldn’t mind either of the WRs you mentioned. I just wanted to point out that we could still be aiming for more explosion on offense by selecting Bowers.

This is off topic from the thread, but I like Max Melton as a guy that we could take on Day 2 or later.

Peyton is the reason I became a Colts fan back in 1999, when I was 9 years old. He’ll always be the GOAT, in my opinion.

In that scenario. Cardinals would have the number 1 pick. Which means they would probably take Harrison Jr.
If the Cards pick #1 next year, I’d have to imagine they’d be wanting a new QB.- 2

All the hate makes me like Levis even more. Since we have no shot at Young, I’m hoping he’s the pick.
Edit: For the record, I’m absolutely fine with whatever we choose to do, though. Levis would just be my preference of the realistic options.

Why do we constantly diagnose the Stroud Georgia game ?
Can we diagnose the Stroud Michigan game ?
That’s one of the drawbacks for Stroud, for me. OSU had beaten Michigan many, many years in a row prior to Stroud becoming starter. Then, with a much more talented team (than Michigan), OSU lost 2 straight with Stroud as a starter. Maybe it means nothing, but it is interesting.

With Bennett id probably say size and age along with a few other less important things primarily. Overall for some strange reason i just think Doug feels Bennett is better than Young and its just not true at all.
Even Kirby Smart would agree that Young is better.

Your not going to win the talent argument.
Alabama is just as talented as Georgia if not more.
Who were Stetson Bennetts top 10 NFL receivers that he was throwing to ?
Let me save you the trouble of looking it up. No one.
Bennetts number one WR target decided to go back to school because he was going to be a 6th rounder.
Bennett easily had better targets and a better OL in 2022. The WR corps for each was probably about even, but UGA had the best collection of TEs I’ve maybe ever seen on one team. Look up Brock Bowers, he’s easily a future top 10 pick.

Even Mahomes is changing his playing style after a few seasons of taking hits. So is Murray. Young will physically peak in his early years, and then his size issues will only get worse as the pounding accumulates. And unlike Mahomes or Murray, he doesn't have the arm strength to revert to pocket passing. Stroud, Levis and Richardson...and even Hooker and Bennett...certainly do
In all of the controversy over his size, nobody talks about his arm talent. Its not what you want it to be if he has to cut back on his scrambling.
So you think Bennett and Hooker have better arm talent than Young?

Falcons just signed Heinicke to a 2 yr deal for 14 Mill and they love Ridder. I call this false news.
It probably is false news, but Falcons choosing to go in a different direction from Ridder wouldn’t be surprising, in my opinion.

Rumor is Panthers are deciding between Richardson and Stroud and that the Texans will take whomever the Panthers don't. So if this is true the question then becomes how much do the Colts want Bryce to move up to three? To me, the biggest threats are the Lions and Falcons. Im not sure the Lions love Goff enough to not try to trade up. Then again they are paying him a lot of money. Falcons comes down to how much they like Ridder. Seahawks and Raiders could be potential threats, but who knows after they signed QBs. The wildcard in all this that I haven't seen anyone mention are the titans. Yes their at 11, but if the Bears didn't care about going from 1 to 9, what's stopping the cards from going from 3 to 11
If Richardson and Stroud go 1 and 2, that’d be a dream scenario. I’d prefer we get Young or Levis, anyway.

The guys who play great QB in high school but are then pointed towards the defensive backfield by their college recruiters because of size.
I'm assuming that since the 1980's, there were probably lots of guys just like BY that never got a shot at playing QB in college, It not like colleges try and produce 5'10" QBs and he's the best there has ever been.
We just know that a lot of football coaches at all levels of football think size is a big deal, and I'm not going to talk myself into thinking it isn't.
Obviously you’re free to have your opinion. But I am very doubtful there have been “many” guys like Bryce Young. I think you’re severely underrating what he’s done throughout his football career so far.- 1

The degree to which the narrative is ignoring Young's size is getting out of hand, IMO.
How may football players over the past few decades, that could do what BY can do, were steered towards playing DB in college because of their diminutive size?
Young made it through the cracks and now folks are talking like he's some sort of unicorn.
There is a reason those other guys before him were recruited for and played DB.
Who are these guys you’re referring to that showed the type of passing skill that Bryce has exhibited in college? Most small guys that were converted to WR or DB from QB were guys who got by in college with athleticism.
One thing to consider is that Bryce Young played in the SEC for Alabama. It’s not the NFL, but it’s also not the FCS. And Nick Saban could pretty much have his pick at QB. But he targeted Bryce Young. He then started him at QB 2 of the 3 years that Bryce was at Alabama. This whole notion that Bryce will for sure get hurt trying to play QB in the NFL is crazy. Could he have injury problems? Absolutely. But so could any of the other QBs. Wentz is a huge guy, and he has been injured almost every year that he’s played in the league.

Well the high pressure to sack rate is a definite concern. And I agree with him being a 2nd rounder in normal years. Really all of these guys at the top of the QB list this year would normally be 2nd rounders.
If that were the case, they’d be 2nd rounders this year. We just saw 1 QB go in the 1st round last year, and there were several teams needing QBs last year.

Steichen having a direct connection with Richardsons former OC is a big thing. Wonder how much they talked about him and it does give him a direct connection to call him up and learn more. I don’t think that is who colts are taking but the connection can’t be ignored/
Given how much accuracy has been talked about, I can’t imagine that Richardson is the pick. He’s by far the biggest gamble of the 4.

As I’ve said, Saban has raved about this guy since the day he stepped foot on campus in Tuscaloosa. I’ve never heard him gush over one player so much.

Stroud or Levis for me and i think we end up with 1 or the other. Hopefully its Stroud bc i just think hes very very good. Like lets move up a pick or two good. I wont be mad at all if we pick Bryce but im going to keep discriminating on his size until Ballard shows me hes willing to go a different route as far as measurables go.
A few weeks ago I posted in here that I’d like for us to get Stroud if Young is already off the board. But after digging deeper and seeing more in-depth stats, highlights, etc. I’ve changed my mind. I’m now hoping it’s Young or Levis. I’d still be fine if we selected Stroud, but I’d prefer the other two.

I’ll be shocked if Young isn’t faster than Levis. Richardson should be the fastest of all the top QB prospects, though.

Hmmm. So you want to put him behind this Oline that showed huge regression and got Ryan nearly killed?
If our OL plays as poorly as it did in the first half of last season, it won’t matter which QB we pick. They’ll all get hurt.

So you think Young is an outlier? You might be right but do you feel comfortable gambling the future of the Colts on it?
I would feel comfortable about it. They’re all a risk. I think, even with the size concerns, he’s the safest bet.

No way are the Colts going to risk draft capital to move up for Young. If he falls to 4 maybe they take him but I don't see them taking the risk over Stroud, Levis or even Richardson.
You’re probably spot on with that assumption. I don’t think we move up for Young.

Nice try at deflection and not answering the question. Are you in politics?
It’s a legitimate question in response to your question, though. No, I can’t name a successful NFL QB his size, but prior to him, I couldn’t name an incredible college QB and potential 1st pick his size, either. What if he truly is just an outlier and makes it work with his size? Up until to this point, that’s all he’s ever done. I don’t know that he will for sure succeed at his size in the league, but neither do you.

Can you name a successful NFL QB with Young's physical size? Height and weight.
Can you name another guy his size and weight that was a phenom in college and considered a #1 pick worthy QB?

I'm sure Bryce is a great guy and has the quickest mind and highest football IQ out of the potential top QBs, however, he physically will never hold up to the pounding he will have to endure in the NFL.
I mean that’s something you just don’t know. I know it’s not the NFL, but he held up pretty well in the SEC. He missed less time than Will Levis, who played in the same league.
