What would you think of trading our 2020 1st rounder to let’s say Carolina (who’s going to be in a total rebuild and possibly a top ten pick next year) for their 2020 2nd and their 2021 first? That would give us 3 picks in the top 44 this year and ammunition to go after Trevor Lawrence next year.

I’d be all for that.  Actually, I’d even give them our 1st for their 3rd and next year’s first.  Doubt they’d do it, though.  I’d consider a straight up trade, our 1st round this year for their 1st round next year and just hope they’re terrible so we could get Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields.

The logical case for Andy Dalton:

Logic question #1 - Will we trade up into a top 5 pick to get a QB?

No, the price is just too high to trade up.

Logic question #2 - Is Jacoby Brissett the Future?

No, he is not. We've seen enough to know this.  At best, he is a Temporary Present.

Logic question #3 - If we brought in Andy Dalton, would he be the Future?

No, he is too old to be the Future.  He would be a Temporary Present.

Logic question #4 - Comparing the two Temporary Present QB's, which is better?

Dalton is better than JB as a Temporary Present QB.

My thinking exactly.  Dalton would be a 1 to 2 year starter, nothing more.  During those 1 or 2 years we could be a playoff team, though.

Just talked with a co-worker who is a die hard Bengals fan, and he would rather see the Bengals trade down to acquire players and additional picks.  He said Burrow is a very good QB, but the Bengals needs lots more than a QB, especially a rookie who would be wasting his first few years with a team that needs tons of upgrades.

Would be interesting to see if Cincy wold be open to trading down and how much that would cost a team to move up to #1.

I work with a Bengals fan and he said the same thing.  However, I don't think there is any way the Bengals will trade down.  I think they'll definitely draft Burrow even if it would be wiser to trade down and fill more holes.

  4. With the Bengals looking like they will be drafting Joe Burrow, what does everyone think about Dalton coming to Indy?  He's proven he can get a team to the playoffs when surrounded by good players.  If we draft Love, Herbert or Gordon it may be nice for them to get to play behind Dalton for a year or two before taking over as the starter.

Hey you could be completely right I dont have an issue with drafting the right guy this year. I just k how if it doesn't happen this year next year is unlikely to produce a starting level QB for this Colts team, unless they're picking top 5. Is there anyone besides Lawrence that you know of?

    Justin Fields from Ohio State.

Russell Wilson was Seattle’s guy in 2012.    Yet, they took him with pick 75 in the third round.    You don’t want to reach if you think Love falls all the way  to the second round.

Now if  they love the kid and think he won’t fall all the way,  then you take him in the first.    It all depends on your evaluation.

Wilson wasn’t necessarily their guy.  They had just traded for Matt Flynn and thought he may be the guy.

  7. No need to.  We don’t need a top 5 pick to get a quality QB.  Look at where the top quarterbacks in the NFL were drafted.  Lamar Jackson (32nd), Brees (round 2, pick 32), Brady (round 6, pick  199), Rodgers (24th), Russell Wilson (round 3, pick 75), Mahomes at 10th and Watson at 12th are the highest of the top tier qbs.  No need to trade up.  I know Manning and Luck were #1 picks, but we can get a good one where we are.
