I guess the pain wasn't that bad when he signed that contract extension.

See a stupid comment like that from a "fan" is what ruins it for everyone else.

What you fail to realize is that sure during the contract extension he was in "pain" and to your words "wasn't that bad", because it feels manageable and you feel like it will go away. Fast forward three years later, the contract extension that he signed by you before the shoulder, surgery, and multiple rehabs, is still there. That changes your perspective and if you can't slightly understand that then anything you have to say on the subject doesn't matter.

That isn’t the issue. You do this before camp. Not two weeks before the season.

Everyone thought before camp he was going to be healthy. Even after the injury coaches, players, the owner, even Andrew believed it was minor and was nothing more than a week. Its spanned over 2+ months since. So now you want them to be fortune tellers too? Yeah okay.

  3. People are on here acting like he isn't a human being because he gets paid millions of dollars.

The post game interview, he stated that over the past 4 years hes been dealing with pain during the season and throughout the offseason and continuously rehabbing.

I'm sure these same people can hardly get through a whole day with a headache, let alone 4 years of continual pain and rehabbing.

You act like you know this mans life and how he feels and everything should be okay because of money? Nah that ain't it. I'd bet that 99% of people that are in pain all the time would trade all the money in the world to be pain free.

  4. Essentially, you want the left side to be more athletic to be suited for pass blocking because its the QB's blindside because most are right handed. The right side in turn becomes more of the run blocking side because they're "less athletic" and don't move as well laterally, etc than the left. The transition from right to left and vice-versa for guard is less intense and more seamless than for tackles because you have an open side.

  5. Hey guys, I don't post here often, but try and do a mock once a year just because I get bored.

Round 1 Pick 6: Bradley Chubb EDGE 6'4'' 269 lbs NC State

I think he still makes it to us at 6. I assume 3 QB's go top 3 and then Barkley and Nelson at 4 and 5. Not much to say here that hasn't been said here, elsewhere, and what hes shown on tape and at the combine. Fills a major need.

Round 2 Pick 36: Isaiah Oliver DB 6'1'' 190 lbs Colorado

Excellent size, long arms, and good speed. He ran a 4.50 at the combine. Plays press really well and is rangy. I think he can make a solid duo with Wilson, if he can get his stuff together, and give us a good tandem to work with at both corner spots.

Round 2 Pick 37: Derrius Guice RB 5'10'' 212 lbs LSU

I was on board to take Barkley at 3 when we had the pick. I think getting a workhorse RB takes the load off of Luck and will keep the defense more honest. Guice has a good blend of size, power, and speed, as he ran a 4.49 40 at the combine. Health issues are a bit of a concern, but he shows good vision, patience, and burst.

    Round 2 Pick 49: Billy Price C/OG 6'4'' 312 lbs Ohio St

Offensive line has been a problem for years. I'm not stoked that I waited this long to address only a part of it, but there are other needs and better players at out previous picks, imo, than to go much earlier than this. Versatile, strong, and shows great leverage. I think he can play next to Kelly and if he gets hurt can fill the need at C. I'm hoping we resign Mewhort and he can stay healthy and play at the other guard spot.

    Round 3 Pick 67: Malik Jefferson ILB/OLB 6'3'' 236 lbs Texas

We've been missing a leader in the linebacking corp for a while. Jefferson is a big linebacker than can play both ILB and OLB. Has good length, size, and speed. Ran a 4.52 40 at the combine. His tackling and instincts have gotten better every year. Has the speed and strength to cover bigger and faster TE's.

Round 4 Pick 104: Quenton Meeks CB 6'2'' 205lbs Stanford

Again I wish there was a guard or tackle I think that is worth it here, but I don't. Meeks shows good technique and is long, big, and rangy. Has press man coverage skills and has good ball skills as well.

Round 5 Pick 140: Brett Toth OT 6'6'' 305 lbs Army

Finally get to address the RT position here. Shows good physical and technical abilities and is a bit undersized, but after going through a full offseason of NFL strength training I think he can fill out his frame. He is smart, coachable, and athletic and is what coaches want in their locker room.

    Round 6 Pick 178: Troy Apke S 6'2'' 210 lbs Penn St

He would be a project at safety and is molded similar to TJ Green. He had one hell of a combine. 4.34 40-yard dash, 41 inch vertical, 131 inch broad jump, 6.56 3 cone drill, 4.03 20 yard shuttle all top performances. He might go sooner because of athleticism, but I think hes more coachable than TJ Green and shows better technical skills and fills a need.

    Round 7 Pick 221: Marquez Valdes-Scantling WR 6'5'' 205 lbs South Florida

We've been needing a big red zone target WR. TY Hilton is great, but I always preferred bigger WR's than can run. He has good size and length and ran a 4.37 forty. He lacks route running abilities, but who doesn't at this level, and shows some inconsistencies with his hands, but I think both of those are coachable.

Anyways, I'm always open to criticism and there is no way to please everyone. I know people are going to say, "so and so isn't going to be available there", but no one really knows and its all speculation anyhow. Hope you guys enjoy. :]

  6. Just got bored at work and wanted to a quick mock FA/Draft as of 3/15/17. I didn't get to do a TON of research, but I did the most I could with the limited time I had. Let the roasting begin! :]

    Free Agents:

Zach Brown ILB: 4 years 32 mill 20 mill guaranteed

Dontari Poe DT: 1 year 10 mill

    Draft:

Round 1 #15: Forrest Lamp OG 6'4'' 309 lbs Western Kentucky

We weren't able to address the right side of our O-Line this offseason by missing on Zeitler and Lang. I don't think there is another prospect here that I REALLY like unless Solomon Thomas drops into the mid to late 1st round like reports are saying. Hes an athletic guard that does well in both phases and would shore up the trenches.

    Round 2 #46: Jordan Willis DE/OLB 6'4'' 255 lbs Kansas St

Lord knows the Colts need a pass rusher and although I think the signings of Sheard, Mingo, and Simon I don't think they fix our problem. I think with those signings and drafting Willis we're able to put rotate him into passing situations while polish him up on the rest of his game.

Round 3 #80: Joe Mixon RB 6'1'' 226 lbs Oklahoma

Yeah, I already know what you're thinking. He WON'T be available here, but I've done my research. There are already a handful of teams that removed them from their board, some hes still a late round pick, and some hes rising, but I've yet to see a mock (aside from on this forum) where hes gone before the 3rd round. I think hes the best all around back in the draft and if hes here great, if not... oh well.

    Round 4 #121: Josh Jones S 6'1'' 220 lbs N.C. State

Is a plus athlete that possesses the size, range, and speed that you want in a SS. His aggression is overwhelming at times and needs to be controlled, but if he is able to keep it down a notch and if he can hone his zone coverage skills think of a Kam Chancellor type player in the backfield. Would add physicality along with Geathers.

Round 4 #137: Roderick Johnson OT 6'7'' 298 lbs Florida St.

A lengthy OT that has plus run blocking strength. Is a bit on the lean side and has balance issues because of this, but if hes able to correct these issues he could start on the left side and allow Castonzo to move to the right side where I think he is a better fit.

Round 4 #144: Rasul Douglas CB 6'2'' 209 lbs West Virginia

Interesting prospect with good length. His balance and fluidity needs to get better and would have trouble with quicker, shorter receivers, but I like his size and ball skills. Could be a good press corner and solid depth.

Round 5 #158: Chidobe Awuzie CB 6'0'' 202 lbs Colorado

Going back to back corner because every year we're down to the wire in cornerback depth. You can never have enough CB depth. Fluid, controlled cover corner and possesses solid speed and quickness. I think he would be a great nickel corner for us and if he can improve his tackling he could move up the depth chart.

  7. Kevin Zeitler is a name that no one has been talking about that I think we should go after to solidify the o-line. Honestly if Eric Berry were to become available he would held out our secondary tremendously.

There are just a lot of needs at a lot of places, most notably pass rush, but I don't see any ones good enough for us to pick up this off-season.

Trumaine Johnson may come at a discount after having a poor season.

  8. This makes me seem like a terrible fan, but I think its better if we keep losing. We're not going to win the Super Bowl with this team. We need so much help on both side of the ball. I see teams like the Cowboys and the Falcons who had a decent team, but under performed and got to use some high draft picks I think we need the same. It's just unfortunate Luck is good enough to cover enough to get us a decent record.

  9. Look I'm not a guru on contracts and don't know when Shanahans contract is up or what happens if we fire Grigson after his extension in terms of contract.

What I do know is a guy like Kyle Shanahan has taken some abysmal offenses and made them decent and decent ones to absolute monsters.

His first couple years in Houston he did a solid job with Schaub/Rosenthal at QB. He attributed to RG3 his rookie year with how he played. And what hes done with the Falcons offense the past two years is astonishing. He has a knack for getting the most out of his RB's and wouldn't mind hiring someone like him as HC.

Again just all speculation and fun, but I'm not a fan with how Grigson has handled this team on either sides of the ball. Hiring someone like Shanahan will optimize the talent we have on offense and make us more efficient so we can focus more of our offseason time on the defense. Just my opinion. What do ya'll think in terms of future head coaching?

  10. Aside from Andrew Luck and a few select players, I hate how the whole team is built. I know a lot of this happens to be how you draft, but I like how the Broncos have built their team. They're smart with their money in free agency by spending it on quality players they know that are worth it. I would like to see this type of improvement in the offseasons.

Coaching: We're sloppy. Way too many penalties. I know injuries happen, but we're consistently one of the most injured teams in the NFL. Is it just injury prone players, or coaching/strength/conditioning?

Offensive Line: We addressed this a little bit, but still gives up way too much pressure. QB's like Siemian, Wentz, and whatever QB the Patriots play. All end up looking better than Luck because they have decent o-lines that make them look good and they can run the ball.

Wide Receivers/Tight End: One of our strengths. I would like to see us get bigger on WR though. Moncrief is our biggest guy, but I don't see him as a serious red zone threat. Thats what we have TE's for, but I just prefer larger wideouts. Think Brandon Marshall and Demaryius Thomas.

Runningback: Frank Gore is a solid short term fix, but we need to find a workhorse back or a good committee to run with.

D-Line: Seems to be getting better. Anderson isn't bad and Kerr has been good versus the run. I think we can get better, but solid.

Linebackers: We have almost no consistent pass rushing threats and we need to address this immediately. Dqwell is a volume tackler, but getting old and I think a bit over paid. Morrison shows promise.

Secondary: If we were healthy maybe this would be a bright spot, but I've yet to see it. Mike Adams has been a probowler along with Vontae when he is healthy, but everyone else is a question mark. I know Geathers had a nice play today and there is potential with TJ Green, but a weak point at this point in the season.

  11. "However, he does not possess the natural coverage instincts, fluidity or burst to be considered a future starter. Is comfortable and capable in press man, using his size to disrupt receivers' releases off the line, but doesn't show enough make up speed to consistently recover when beaten. Awareness in zone and off-man are only adequate. Has average ball skills but some upside as a playmaker."

"Pros: Possesses rare height for a corner with enough bulk and speed. Effective when lined up at the line in press man coverage. Uses length well and established sound initial positioning. Flashes the ability to turn and run. Flashes the ability to high-point the football. Willing to help out in run support."

"Cons:  Can be baited out of position when in zone and a tick late to diagnose underneath routes. Tall, high-cut prospect who displays some hip-stiffness. Not explosive when transitioning or when changing direction. Lacks great recovery skills when beaten off the line. Can struggle tacking in the open field at times."

The assessment pre-draft for this player is the player we now know as Richard Sherman. Give it a couple years and lets see what happens. If it doesn't work out, well that sucks, but theres no such thing as a "sure" prospect and you can't blame a GM/HC for drafting a player based on potential.

  12. I would of strongly considered moving up in the second and losing a fourth to go

    Ryan Kelly

    Myles Jack

    Andrew Billings

Billings in the third could be considered a "reach" because he went so late in the fourth, but moving up in the second we lose our fourth rounder so I'd take him there.

We lose out on a project OT, but I think Myles Jack is a premier ILB talent that would anchor the defense for the future. Reminds me of Patrick Willis.

With the issues we have on the OL and basically throughout our entire defense, why would we take a RB at 18? I mean man, we gotta bring in some young playmakers on defense and fix the OL. We can get a good RB in the 3rd. Howard, Perkins, Collins, Procise, Williams, Dixon, and a few more. I mean look at a guy like Leveon Bell who was I think a late 2nd rounder. Or David Johnson this year with Zona. He was a 3rd rounder. You can get an elite, feature back in the 3rd round. We'd be better off getting Spence, Floyd, or a DT at 18.

If you read my post at all, in free agency I filled 2 of 3 needs on our O-Line and filled on EDGE rusher with Vernon. My draft was based on us getting that free agency. I previously in my other mock filled 2 of 3 needs on our o-line and then drafted Conklin in the 1st, but then that was too much on our o-line. Can't please everyone. I don't see Spence making it to us and if DT is the best spot we can fill and Elliot is still available I'd pick Elliot.

There seems to be many colts fans who are still living in 1987.  Freaking Elliot lol.  But hey, you are entitled to your opinion.

I don't see the problem here? If I get the free agents we want we get to solidify our CB spot, fill 2 of 3 needs on our o-line, and get another pass rusher to play along side Robert Mathis for this next year. I expect Spence to be gone when we pick, and don't see many other options at EDGE rusher at 18 and picking up someone like Jack Conklin people didn't like us filling at 3 spots needed at o-line.

    34 minutes ago, 2006Coltsbestever said:

What? You don't think he will be the next Eric Dickerson (sarcasm) In all seriousness if we don't take a Pass Rusher or a solid O.Lineman I think 90% of Colts fans on this Site will freak out.

Its like I fill our main two needs in free agency and when I don't fill those same two needs with our first round pick everyones all upset, but when I have the same expected free agency and then draft like an o-lineman people don't like that fact that we spent too much on the o-line in one off season, what?

  14. 20 minutes ago, BProland85 said:

Regarding the draft, I'd rather have NT A'Shawn Robinson in the 1st, Alex Collins in the 3rd, DE Jihad Ward in the 4th, Deiondre Hall in the 5th, then trade into the 6th to take OLB Victor Ochi.

And I'm not huge into Calhoun as a pure pass rusher. Would rather have Jaylon Smith or Sean Spence here if they fall.

Picking up Jaylon Smith in the 2nd would only be good if his injury isn't that serious. Spence I highly doubt is going to drop to the 2nd round he may, but I doubt he does.

I don't see how drafting a NT in the first round really helps us all that much. Our D-Line is probably the strongest group on our defense to be honest. Our pass rush and secondary needs a lot more help, but without the right talent at the spot I would probably take Elliot who doesn't fill an immediate need, but has a bigger impact on our team.

If I were to draft a RB not named Elliot, it would probably be Kenyan Drake from Alabama around the 3rd.

Ochi wouldn't be a bad pick, but you're willing to not draft a pass rusher until the 6th round because you don't like his pass rushing ability? Calhoun is already better equipped as a pass rusher than Ochi struggles in coverage especially being so small and doesn't have the length so I question his ability to be able to get around longer armed and quicker tackles.

  15. Back at it again (Not a damn Daniel reference), after doing some more research on prospects, etc.

    Releases:

    Andre Johnson

    Trent Cole

    D'Qwell Jackson

    Arthur Jones

    Bjoern Werner

    Resign:

    Adam Vinatieri

    Coby Fleener

    Jerrell Freeman

    Extensions:

    Andrew Luck

Team Outlook/Needs: Wanted a section where I can kind of show you my outlook at how the team is now so you can get a better feel for how I would handle FA and the draft.

Offensive Line: Argument can be made for an EDGE rusher, but I think protecting Andrew Luck is currently bigger need. If Mewhort stays at LG we need to replace everyone from the center position all the way through the right side.

LB Corp: Aside from Robert Mathis who is getting on the wrong side of 30, we don't get a lot of pressure on the QB. Definitely need a premier edge rusher and someone to groom to replace Mathis once he retires. Assuming we keep Jerrell Freeman we need another ILB as well.

Secondary: Vontae Davis is the only guy we have here that I like honestly. Mike Adams has been great, but he is getting old as well. So we have question marks at both safety positions as I'm not 100% Geathers will be a quality all around starter and we need to find quality DB's to play across from Davis and in the slot.

Running Back: Again Gore is going to be okay for a while, but we don't have a long term solution for a #1 RB or for a committee IMO.

Defensive Line: People are probably going to argue this should be higher up on the list, but I honestly don't think this is a HUGE need currently. Sure we could be better at all three positions, but we have some quality starters here. Langford isn't terrible and Henry Anderson showed a lot of promise and should serve us well if he can come back and stay healthy. David Parry showed some flashes as well, but I wouldn't be against trying to find a replacement either.

Tight End: Fleener is one of those TE's that can stretch the defense, but is a bit too inconsistent, if he can find some more consistency. Finding a replacement for Dwayne Allen wouldn't be a bad idea, but not a pressing need.

Wide Receiver: This may just be nitpicking, but I hate the fact that we don't have a true #1. Someone like a Dez Bryant, Demaryius Thomas, Odell Beckham, etc. Someone that I can throw to all over the field and they can make plays after the catch, but someone with the size and hops to get the ball in the red zone. I think TY fits more of a Emmanuel Sanders role when he first joined the Broncos a couple years ago. Moncrief shows some promise, but not quite sure hes a true #1 and Dorsett hasn't been on the field enough. I REALLY wanted the Colts to draft Alshon Jeffrey in the 2nd round in 2012, but we opted for Coby Fleener instead. So in short if there is a bigger WR with some speed later in the draft I wouldn't mind picking one up.

Special Teams: A position of strength. Pat is one of the best if not the best punter in the League and AV is as good as you can get nowadays, he is getting a bit old, but until he retires I don't see us looking for a replacement.

Quarterback: Obviously set for a long time hopefully, may look into getting a cheaper option at backup, but Hassellbeck has been pretty alright.

    Free Agents:

Olivier Vernon, OLB: Its still not 100% that he'll hit the market, but if he does I would dish out the money to acquire his services.

Stefan Wisniewski/Ben Jones, C: I prefer Wisniewski as I think he is better in pass protection, but only want him at the right price. Ben Jones could be a cheaper option for C.

Jeff Allen, OG: Someone that didn't really get to shine until the 2nd half of the season, but he is one of the younger better guards in the League and would come cheaper than someone like Osemele.

Morris Claibourne, CB: Okay, I know he hasn't lived up to where he was drafted and has dealt with injuries, but if we are able to sign him for 2 years at a cheap enough price he could be a quality nickel corner and could maybe revitalize his career. I think hes more of a press/man cover corner whereas the Cowboys played a lot of zone. Hes young and has a lot of potential, low risk high reward signing.

*Trumaine Johnson, CB: I put an asterisk as I know he may get transition tagged, but if hes available and we have the cap space signing him would help our secondary tons.

    NFL Draft

Round 1: Ezekiel Elliot, RB, Ohio State

Okay, just hear me out for a second. I know another offensive player what am I thinking? Well if free agency works out the way I want like above, unless Noah Spence is available, there really isn't another need here that we would absolutely need to take. Maybe Reggie Ragland here to fill our other ILB spot, but Elliot shows all the signs of a #1 back. He shows great vision and decisiveness, ran a 4.47. Hes basically built like Adrian Peterson and has similar speed while also sporting better hands and pass blocking abilities. He would balance out our offense and would make us a true dual-threat offense that would keep the defenses on their toes.

Round 2: Shilique Calhoun, 3-4 OLB, Michigan State

Calhoun has good size and length and has had a productive season at Michigan State. Hes a leader in the lockroom and can be groomed to replace Mathis after he retires to play alongside Vernon.

Round 3: Austin Johnson, NT, Penn State

Big bodied DT, but shows a lot of energy and hustle with 78 tackles and 6 sacks. Reminds me a bit of Geno Atkins in terms of size/athleticism.

Round 4: Deiondre' Hall, CB, Northern Iowa

Long and lanky corner that doesn't shy away from contact and helps in run support had 84 tackles as a corner last year.

Round 5: Willie Beavers, OT, Western Michigan

Quick, loose, and fluid athlete. I think after a year of strength and conditioning he could be our starting RT.

    Round 7:James Bradberry, CB/S, Samford

I don't know if you've figured it out yet, but I love tall lengthy DB's. Hes another one that is probably better suited to play safety. Mike Adams is getting older and we can groom him. Shows great athleticism and closing speed, needs to work a bit on his coverage skills and is solid in run support.
