  1. The bottom line is we could have rebuilt the team around Peyton and been a Super Bowl contender for the rest of his career AND put the pieces in place to continue after he was gone.

Now we have a rebuilding time that is gonna be a struggle and we are not yet a Super Bowl contender.

Fifteen years of Luck is a low percentage at this point.

Look around the league for the past 30 years and you'll find that rebuilding isn't all its cracked up to be.  But, when you have the rare once in a lifetime opportunity to have a special player such as Unitas or Manning you make it for all its worth for as long as you possibly can!

It's a shame that there are so many Manning haters out there that we can't even mention his name in relation to a team that he brought respect to after it was lost for over 25years.

  2. Just to be clear. While I disagree that Bill (no comment on son) or Jim was as bad as many on this forum would advocate(opinions yes, but facts they are not) regardless of the length to which you denigrate them personally was not the issue that I have with Mr. Kravitz methods. I would gladly read his opinions, but it appears to me that in many instances he deliberatly baits his subjects and distorts their answers when seeking responses from other parties involved. Likewise, he has appeared(to me) to deliberately misinterpret statements made by individuals and reported as such that upon clarification prove to be in contradiction to the truth.

A 9-7 record and first round exit is a valid speculation on your behalf. My speculation differs. But, that ship has long sailed and discussion is somewhat redundant.

In response to the OP, I was simply sharing my perspective of at least one individual that can no longer tolerate the Star due to Mr. Kravitz and his writings. I in know way am trying to convince you or others to do the same and nothing I've heard or read to date gives me pause to reconsider my actions.

    That's it nothing more.

  3. My objection to Kravitz has been years in the making. Writers that criticize players has never bothered me even when I disagreed with their point of view. After all, sensationalistic journalism has always been employed to sell newspapers and give pundits means to be recognized. This was how I characterized Mr. Kravitz back in the day.

However, as time marched on I became appalled at the "lows" to which Mr. Kravitz was willing to stoop. Many times it appeared to me that he went as far to stretch, bend, or distort the truth of a player, team, coach, or owner to make some outlandish claim or castigate the object of his poisen. When reading between the lines after the last season, I felt this is precisely what he did to Peyton, Jim, and Bill. Frankly, his behavior offended me. It wreaked of the quality that has become the norm in some of the "large market" franchises. I felt that was an embarrassment to Indianapolis.

It was no knee jerk reaction when I finally stopped my subscription to the Star. My relationship with the Star/News started when I would pick up my bundle of papers at the drop point and peddle my bicycle around town making delivery. As I tell them each time they call wanting to know why I don't re-subscribe, I miss the TV section, headlines, puzzles, and comics but I cannot support an organization that will allow the hitman journalism of a Robert Kravitz.

I recognize that many do not see it that way, but that is the view from my saddle!

  4. Sure Luck has made mistakes. I'd speculate that every player that has been into a ballgame on every team within the NFL has made at least a few mistakes. Some more than others. Some more disastrous than others.

Luck's mistakes in no way account for the losses we've experienced, the record as it stands, or the general condition or environment of the team at this point.

Rookies, castoffs(even some good ones), free agents(even some average ones), new schemes, and lack of depth explain the current situation of the Colt's. Band aid fixes, creative use of personel, inventive strategies will be the tasks of the coaches for the balance of the season. Playing with heart, tenaciousness, and an unwillingness to give up will be the mark of the Colt's players this year.

It's what rebuilding is all about. ....and why it is painful to watch. What's to be cheered for this season is those players that make the most of the opportunity to show their abilities and those that have the heart of the lion.

We can only hope they learn fast and the development period is short. It appears at this time that the development of the new offense is further along than the change to the 3-4. In any case, it's gonna take a couple more years of drafts and free agent acquisition before this team can be a contender.

  5. Panic is certainly not called for. With most of the defensive line out of action on a team without much depth, not stopping the run could be expected. Getting behind early against a team controlling the clock means you're one dimensional and everyone on the field knows it and anticipates it. Luck put the ball in the air 44 times with many of them against 6 DB's and eluding a pass rush.

On the road. The rookie tight ends are developing right well.

Some runners and receivers are coming along likewise.

Linebackers are learning. Pass defenders are primarily holding their own with a few breakdowns. Of course when it comes to winning & losing, it doesn't take many.

I don't see the need for panic.

I still believe we could have made a run at a championship had we went in another direction.

Now I just hope we can come up with the needed elements before the existing ones start fading away or we'll still be rebuilding in five years.

  6. It seems I didn't see the same game as most. I thought Luck did a good job. With most of the defensive line out of action, the Colt's couldn't stop the run and got behind early. This further negated a running game that was missing some key elements anyway. So, Luck steps up and with everyone in the stadium knowing the Colt's have to pass, he keeps his poise and puts the ball up 44 times. Sure, a few misses on touch passes(or misjudged routes) several dropped balls, and Cromartie blanketing Wayne and licking his chops. When the blocking would break down, he didn't bail and set sail to try to run, but used his skill to elude and give receivers time to work open. Every time he came on the field he adopted a strategy based on the situation that would give the Colt's a chance to win instead of accepting defeat and looking at it as practice.

That reminds me of another QB that I didn't want to let go away.

  7. He's underthrown several long balls(40+). The pass to Avery was 48yds.

It boils down to whether he's misjudging the speed or doesn't have the strength to get the ball into a tight spot 40yds down the field.(without putting a lot of air under it) I suspect it's the former but time will tell.

There's also been a lack of down and out sideline throws to the wide side of the field, possibly another indicator of lack of arm strength.

In any case he's showing poise, skill, savvy, and strong determination. He'll truely be a good pro QB.

  8. I miss anticipation of a possible undefeated season or the upcoming playoffs. It'll take me a while to get back into debating over whether or not games will be blacked out or should the Colts really be ranked as the 32nd team in the league.

But, don't worry. It'll come back to me. I had 25 years of practice from Bert Jones till Peyton Manning.

...and heck I'll still have someone familiar to root for when January gets here.

  9. Ballard scored. Luck didn't. ...and if you're going for the endzone then go all out. He who hesitates pays the price!

I liked Collinsworth and the Bengals when he played and I don't mind him as a color commentator, like all I disagree with him sometimes too.
