Am I the only one who is not liking what I am seeing so far with Ballard's free agent signings?
He has signed 2 players who I guess could be considered starters in Simon and Sheard, and even they are not what I would call blue chippers by any stretch.
Other than that, he seems to be getting rid of the Colt players who were here already and just replacing them with "guys". And I am starting to get the impression he doesn't really have any rhyme or reason to his signings. It is almost as if he is signing them just because they weren't Colts.
As soon as he signed that punter a little part of me went "uh oh". I know he is just a punter but to me, it seems so much better to draft one then sign a guy like that.
And that was just the beginning. Al Woods? Mingo? Schwenke? Hunt? And while their contracts are not large, they are still for $5 million or so and it is starting to eat away at our cap space and I cannot say we are any better off today then we were a month ago.
I just get the feeling that he really doesn't know what they heck he is doing, and is making changes just for the sake of changes.
Thoughts?
I wanted him to assemble an 85 Bears like defense in free agency but it didnt happen now I'm mad too

Walden still needed upgraded. The whole linebacker group was terrible
-
He is a genius, at least compared to Grigson
-
I think he will think short term in free agency without trading away draft picks. And build long term in the draft. Even though they have a "younger and faster " thing going on

2. DEFENSE
3. DEFENSE

I'm afraid to ask, but what positions on OFFENSE need upgrades before running back?
I look forward to your answer.......
RG, RT, second Tight End, and possibly receiver. Receiver might be stretching it a bit but the first three definately could and should be upgraded before running back. Gore has 1-2 more good years in him. 1000 yard running back last year, when was the last time that happened? Granted running back needs an upgraded but NOT before the before mentioned

I don't want anything to do with Cleveland trades. I still haven't forgot the Trent Richardson escapade. They sure got the best out of that deal
-
Compared to the inept linebackers the colts had last year, I'm impressed and they haven't played the first down yet.
-
I'm glad Grigson is gone
-
There is 11 defensive positions and 4 offensive positions needing upgraded before running back. I understand best player available but there is also best defensive player available
-
Colts current secondary is sub par and needs upgraded. Secondary would be a great place to use some draft picks on

wow really? walden
He was a big part of One of worst colts defenses ever and he is calling the recent upgrade puppies. Pack your bags walden you suck

I would rather have Jim Sorgi back. At least he knows how to handle a clip board
-
There is a reason Allen isn't here anymore.
-
Considering Grigson couldnt identify defensive talent if it jumped up and bit him the nose, it doesnt take much to improve. Unlike Grigson I believe Ballard is showing he does have a plan and he is sticking to it. Obvoiusly he isnt going to let linebackers stay here that can't tackle and cornerbacks that cant cover.

Former team mates and coaches seem to say the same thing. Shows up to work and DOES HIS JOB!

I don't think the Colts will sign him but I wouldn't be opposed to it. The game is won in the trenches. You can't patch a leaky dam with play-doh, get the best available which is probably him.
-
Colts defensive talent is sub par. I think the gm recognizes that and is looking to fix that in the draft.
-
Trade him to the pats. If they would take Allen then they would take anybody
-
Wait until he drops a bunch of Tom Brady passes he wont get the Andrew Luck pep talk. ha ha
-
The question that needs answered is- will Rich Eisen beat his 40 yard dash time from last year of 5.94
-
The Colts are going undercover, top secret and all of that good stuff.
