Jerry Hughes is embarking on his third season with Indianapolis after being the club’s first-round pick in 2010. Hughes has played in 24 career games and aims to make this season one of impact. Like other veterans, he is working to pick up a new system, and he is keeping an open mind to learning and an eye toward contributing.

Indianapolis has claimed tight end Andre Smith off waivers from Chicago. Smith spent the second half of the 2011 season on the Bears’ active roster. The Colts released defensive back Mike Holmes.

Monday marked the first of 10 Organized Team Activity (OTA) practices the Colts will conduct as spring work continues. The OTAs will run in three different weekly periods, concluding on Thursday, June 7. Indianapolis will hold a mandatory mini-camp from June 12-14 in finishing its spring work.

Ryan Grigson presided over the first rookie camp of his Indianapolis tenure last weekend. Along with the coaching staff, he welcomed approximately 40 rookies to the organization as they got a first dose of the Colts’ culture both on and off the field. Grigson liked what he saw on all accounts.

T.Y. Hilton is an explosive package in a 5-9, 183-pound frame. Hilton put together a successful career at Florida International, one that produced eye-popping numbers on offense and special teams. He hopes to bring an offensive and special teams spark to Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Colts and Blue recently visited the RE/MAX of Indiana’s ‘Home Turf’ Contest winner, Lee Ann Baldridge, at her home in Mooresville, IN. Lowe’s Home Improvement was also on hand putting the finishing touches on her brand new deck. Blue provided a Colts Grille cover, door mat and flag to give the deck the Colts feel Lee Ann was looking for.

The Colts went through a final workout on Sunday that concluded a three-day, five-practice camp involving about 40 rookies. The club’s 10 draft picks and other free agents went through an intensive on- and off-field indoctrination that served as an introduction to more work later this spring.
