A potential turnaround was made longer by the fact we were turned down by seemingly every free agent we pursued(and a coach).  After the fact, Ballard tried to spin it as a conscious decision to focus only on the draft, but that wasn't the case.  Free agents simply chose other destinations.

I don't think Ballard tried to spin it he said point blank he's not paying tier 1 money to a tier 2 player.  He can't help it if player perfer more money than to play with the Colts

From accounts, he was impressive at his ability to go up and get balls, a knack, uncanny ability.  So that's where I'm coming from,,, If someone else is going to be 3 , there will be a drop-off.  I'd think we would at least be on the look-out for someone.

I think that of all the position the WR core has the most depth and the drop off from the # 3 WR position will be ok

  3. I'm hope Mack doesn't have a prolonged hammy because now Colts have some backs that will cut into his playing time.  Very interested in how these backs will be utilized.  I have a good feeling about Wilkins but, we will see what he can produce.

  4. Under this staff, Colts coaches expect adult behavior from players. When LB's do a drill wrong, DC Matt Eberflus blows his whistle and has every last one of them doing push-ups. When an OL flinches before the snap, OC Nick Sirianni pulls him off the field.

  5. I hear that Cain is having a great camp.  Also hearing Rogers is also.  Where is Cain making his mark at practice.  The reason I ask because I believe Rogers and of course TY will line up outside.  That leaves Cain and Grant for the slot position.  As great as Cain is doing so far, Can he be a starting  slot guy or we he spell Rogers for some catches.

Quincy could not sniff the field last season, and it seems like people are giving him the benefit of the doubt. Blaming Pagano and the coaching staff for inept player development. I am not buying this argument. We've seen that coaching staff play guys that should not have been playing before, but had high expectations and hype. Guys like Trent Richardson and TJ Green for example. Quincy must haven been truly awful to not sniff the field under Pagano. Wilson could not beat out NFL journeymen for playing time. In 2018, an NFL 2nd round pick should be starting Day 1. Heading into his second season, Quincy should be the team's top CB, or at least a solid #2. If this year's training camp is any indication, Quincy has not improved, and does not look ready to start and contribute. It's taboo to rip Ballard, but he should be getting some heat for botching this draft pick. Ballard has ignored FA, and has gone all in on his drafting skills. When you go this direction, you cannot whiff on 2nd round picks.

I think you may be a little high on Bond. He is going to have a tough time making the roster from where I sit. He's a pure pivot and he's currently the 3rd C on the team behind Kelly and Slauson.  I'm sure you are fimilar with Kelly. Slauson played C very well when called on in Chicago and SD. He's a very good G too and a solid free agent signing.

Haeg is seeing an increased work load at C so far this year. That doesn't help Bond's cause. I thought Bond filled in admirably last year for an UDFA pushed into duty. I like him but his lack of position flex is going to make it tough. We have 2 starting level C's already on the roster. I think best case scenario for Bond maybe the PS even that'll be tough as a pure pivot.

I'm not sure why some are down on Haeg. Joe is only 25 years old entering year 3 in the league with starting experience at G and T. He's currently showing the ability to cover at C too. That's the kind of versatility teams look for in O linemen but is difficult to find. He may never become an above average starter on the OL but reserves who can play all 5 spots are very valuable

So we are talking about a one year guy that filled in at center and for the most part held his own vs a 3 year guy that played all 5 spots and was below average for the most part... I don't know and its not he made any strides from year to year. Like someone said Bond will get pluck from the practice squad. Will like to see Bonds year two in preason and if he has improve some from year one I take him over Heag. But I get your point on versatility.

  8. Just finished watching some Marshall Faulks highlights when he was with the Colts.  That OL opened up some holes for him to run.  And then highlights of Joseph Addai.  It seems like a long time since the Colts had a run blocking OL line like them days.  Lets hope the chapter has turned for the better with this OL group.

Thanks for the clarification CBFL. I figured it was an innocent typo & you meant Warren Sapp or  Shannon Sharpe. Never heard of Warren Sharpe actually. I stand corrected thank you.

INDY is gonna surprise a lot of football pundits. Trust me.

I agree were suprisinly in contention alot of games last year for what they were working with.  This will not be the last year Colt team people will see....

This is going to be one feisty and tough team. Practice how you play! Love all the aggression, this is football baby!! I'm sooooo fricken excited!!

Another part of the process that was said was going to take place.  Feist and tough practices brought over from KC......

    Morning everybody.

I'll be heading to today's practice, which has been moved up to a 6:15 start time. I'll try to do live updates during practice here in this thread, and then once I get back to our hotel I'll do a full write up.

Does anyone have anything specific they'd like me to pay attention to outside of the obvious stuff with Luck?

Mathews Adams please. Can't wait to see him in preseason if can lay the wood like he did in college....

  12. You guys are ahead of the monster building process....  Started winning games at a better than expected paste.   Almost reminds me of Houston when people were saying the were ready to kick the door in and become superbowl bound.  The went downhill quick!!!!   I dont see that happening with the Colts...   Just dont expect the big prize for another 2yrs or so....   PHYCIAL INSIDE LB'S wanted!!!   One more PASS RUSHING OLB that puts fear in offensive coaches!!!   And until you guys can run the ball to get first downs instead of relying on the pass Man!!!  My Gaints have the same issues as you guys.  The differents is if you pressure Eli picks are coming.   Its not to hard to gameplan against you guys,  Get them to abandon the run and lets see if we can cover the passing game

  13. The Colts are not the hunters anymore, They are the hunted.  Been getting a lot of hype from the quality teams they beat last year....   If you ask me I beleive they are ahead of schedule of the monster they are trying to build!!!!   Not there yet!!!  They need to add the physical dimension of the game...    When you think of SF, Seattle, Kansas City and the other playoff teams  you talk about thier defense too   With the colts it more about Andrew Luck and there offensive weapons.

  14. Its kind of funny when people keep saying you guys are being out coached.  Dont see it that way...   When coaches are interviewed about what they can do against the colts, you hear most of the time   I think we can have success running the ball....   Not I think we can run ball,  but have success running the ball....   That tells me that teams think they can just take control of the line of scrimage.... against you guys.   I'm ok with the secondary, The two inside LBers is another story.   Until you guys can change the mindset of the league of becoming a physical team in the threnches, Things well stay the same for you guys.  Just my Thoughts...   Still wish nothing but the best for you guys..   I'm really feeling this team

  15. Would it be fair to say that booth the Chargers and the Raven has a much more physical defensive and offensive line than the Colts.  It's not like the Pats come up with a great gameplan when the play the Colts.  The just play smash mouth football on booth sides of the ball.....    Plan and Simple!!!!

  16. Surprised it's not more than 58% for Luck. I don't even think it's close. Sure Wilson is a quality starter, and much better than anticipated, but talent and intelligence wise it's not closeI

You don't think It's close!!!!  Im Luck fan to but come on my man,  and enlighten me please on the part where he is less talented and Lucks intelligence is far more superior.  This is a most hear for me

  17. As a long time Giants fan, it is in you guys best interest to lesson the load on him  right now.  Then come playoff time I would give him the most reps.  Tough hard nose back that would want all the touches if he could.  We put a lot of wear and tear on him when he was here.  Keep him fresh for the playoff!!!  Hated to see Hicks go, you guys got a steal in him and should use him more than your using him.  Long time Colts fan by the way!!!
