    You keep missing this part:

Just because Player A is graded better than Player B (especially over disparate sample sizes) doesn't mean that Player A is better than Player B.

This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I suppose you could argue that it means Player A has played better than Player B assuming a sufficient sample size. But that difference doesnt really change anyone's argument here.

The entire point of grading is to provide a relative means of comparison. That's true of any grading. If that isn't the purpose of grading then grading doesnt really mean anything at all and it's just a number. It is pretty clear PFF is trying to establish a means of comparison with their grades - especially between players that play the same position.

By the way, I am indifferent on PFF grades. I mostly agree with what you are saying in that they at least attempt to establish an objective means of evaluation. I also see what people are saying with the eye test. Maybe the discrepancy is that the objective means of comparison established by PFF could be improved upon.

  2. John Simon being cut does not make any sense unless he is injured.

I am generally a fan of what is going on in Indy with Ballard and Reich but I do not like this move at all. Scheme fit, blah blah blah. The guy just made plays, I dont care what his "natural position" is. The Colts out-thunk themselves on this one. The Colts do not have the talent, especially on D, to let guys like Simon walk.

  3. Does anyone have any insight to how well Hooker has or hasn't played in between interceptions? It feels a little like he has been in the right place at the right time on a couple of those interceptions. BUT there is something to be said about being in the right place at the right time.

Just curious if someone has been able to watch him a little closer than I have to see if he seems to be playing the position well?

Last year Werner had 50 tackles and 4 sacks in 15 games. This was in his first full season after an injury his rookie season. The acquisition of Trent Cole and his bloated salary took any opportunity for Werner, and that is a tragedy.

Cole has  only 30 tackles and 2 sacks right now and he has played a ton of snaps. If Werner had received those same snaps he would have been much more productive.

This year Erik Walden has 35 tackles and 3 sacks in 13 games. His best season ever was 60 tackles in 16 games, but it was way back in 2011 in Green Bay. He hasnt posted over 50 tackles any other season for either team. His only season over 3 sacks was last year, and he only had 6.

Don't act like Werner can't play better than the guys who are out there because he can and has.

Neither Cole or Walden are very good and both have reached the ceiling already. Werner hasnt, he is only 25. Why aren't we trying to develop and coach him up and are settling for mediocre play from high priced veterans?

Stop trying to write off every player for silly reasons like "he got trucked" and learn to appreciate what they can do.

I'm not necessarily saying we should give up on Werner but, dude, you are delusional. Walden has played very well. Werner is not even in the same league as far as production goes. Just watch the games, it's not really that hard to see. Walden actually makes a difference. He sets the edge well and has pressured the QB a lot recently. Werner is the type of guy who always looks in position but never quite makes the play. He is always a step late.

  5. Our offensive line was pretty bad today (especially GC) - but why on earth were we not adjusting to the aggressive blitz? Luck and Pep should have been dialing up quick throws (slants, screens, short passes) to slow them down a little.

I have only watched the game once but, aside for some complete blown coverages, the corners had some tight coverage initially for most of the game but Ben had way too long to throw the ball. A cornerback can't cover the receiver for 4+ seconds.

  6. If I'm a 230 lb running back with a one-on-one with only a DB on the outside 5-10 yards down the field, I'm going to take that free 5-10 yards (at least) every time. Even more so when one of my lead blockers is engaged with the other teams best tackler, and my other blockers are a few steps behind me. I understand what he was trying to do (wait for blocks), but you don't cutback into the opposing team's best tackler in that situation, especially when the next closest defender is 5 yards away from you. Go watch the play again for yourself. Pictures don't do it justice for how poor a decision it was

Hmm I wonder if the coaches would agree with you?

  7. I'm watching the game again right now, and while Mosley gave everyone fits, there were at least 2 plays that I've seen so far that was clearly the result of Trent being a poor running back. For a guy who is supposed to be a YAC player, he's had too many plays where he's brought down with one-arm tackles. On the screen play where Mosley stopped him, he had Thornton out in front blocking and had Mosley sealed inside but Trent unnecessarily cutback right into Mosley's arms.

He's just not very good, and I'm tired of this staff and this forum acting like it's not his fault. He is a liability virtually every time we put the ball in his hands. The only thing more foolish looking than trading a first for Richardson is the refusal to admit it was a mistake and keep force feeding him in an attempt to save face. That is a poor reflection on this staff and front office, in my opinion

Overall, I'm pleased with the progress the team has made so far. The offensive line is coming together, as is the defensive line. The secondary looks borderline elite, even without either of our starting safeties from last season, and the play calling on both sides of the ball has improved drastically....BUT... Trent and the team's insistence on starting him is the biggest blemish I see, and still makes me take pause when considering if this is the right front office to lead us to a superbowl

I am definitely not trying to stick up for Richardson and his play in general - but this is a very bad example if you are trying to show a Richardson mistake. Look at your own pictures - do you not see number 25 waiting to make the play if Richardson bounces outside? Are you saying that rather than Richardson stay with his blockers (2 of them were not even engaged and one of them was engaged with a raven blocking him) you think he should have bounced it to the outside where there was a completely unblocked Raven waiting to make the play?

    Hindsight is so sweet.

  8. To be honest - they don't give a whole lot of detail (which is why I was asking). It does say an on-field and meet and greet experience. It includes a ticket to the game as well. I don't understand why those packages aren't going like hot cakes - they are basically the same price as a ticket (depending on where the seats are). I have no clue where we are sitting though.

  9. We have plenty of big play guys. We need a chain mover especially with Wayne coming off the injury.

Bingo... Whalen did plenty for this team last year. There was at least one game where he was one of the few receivers moving the chains.

He doesn't seem that fast. He's not big. He doesn't seem that strong. He is shifty though and has a knack for making critical plays at critical times.
