The guys that have what it takes to run a NFL Franchise will not come this late in the process

Maybe you're right PT. It feels like there weren't any college coaches considered for an NFL HC position this year. The NFL GMs surely know better than me. But I would just like a young, brilliant offensive mind here.

This whole thing has made me respect Chris Ballard even more.  If it has the same effect on our players this might be a good thing.  The Colts are going to come out of this looking like the classy organization as opposed to McD.  If it was in McD's character that he could screw over a GM, and several assistant coaches in this way, he did us a favor by pulling this stunt and saving us problems down the road.

I agree. This unfortunate situation could unite the team.

I don't see how it could turn out good.  Irsay and Ballard need to back out of ALL contracts with ANY assistants.....you can't force coaches on your new head coach....that's no different than Ballard having to put up with Pagano for a year of cringe-worthy football because Irsay made him.  This is a disaster.

I see your point, but I will feel badly for those families if that's the course we take. I just think that Ballard will want to ensure those jobs for the coaches who made an agreement in good faith.

Well, many on here said that there’s no way he takes the job unless he knew Luck would be ok which I don’t think anyone really knows with 100% certainty. Since he’s backed out some are just connecting dots.

But he was calling assistants this morning and offering them jobs. A press conference was scheduled for tomorrow. He had agreed in principle to coach this team, which is something I doubt he would have done if Luck's shoulder was an issue. I mean, the health of the QB was probably McDaniels's first question during his interview. I'm skeptical that McDaniels received new information between this morning and now that influenced his decision. It's much more likely that Kraft just offered him the Patriots job.

I don’t think he has a choice. He may want to run a different scheme than what McDaniels’ handpicked coaches know how to run. Most coaches will want to bring in their own guys. I expect a lot of turnover with assistant over the next couple of years unfortunately.

The early reports are saying that the Colts will keep them regardless of who the HC is. You're right though. Of course any decent HC will want to pick a staff. I'm not sure how this will turn out.

Exactly. That's not really a great situation to be walking into. Especially being an obvious second choice and all.

That's why I think it's Toub as HC and Bevell as OC. Both guys with ties to Ballard.

I keep hearing about Toub but I'm not sure he was even interviewed the first time around. Bevell was linked to the team a few days ago though.

  7. Seems like we'll be keeping the assistants McDaniels hand-picked, which is admirable but puts us further behind the eight-ball. Not sure how many potential HCs would be okay with not selecting their staff. But perhaps a candidate will convince the team otherwise. I feel bad for those families.

I believe BB is under contract for the 2018  & that he & Kraft have bumped heads over Jimmy G & that BB has had a issue with Tommy Boys trainer IMO McDanials has been promised the HC position in 2019 by Kraft  EGO's are getting in the way in New England .

As contentious as the Kraft/Belichick relationship is, I still can't see Kraft letting him go for McDaniels. Belichick would have to retire and there's no guarantee that he'll do so by next year. I don't know. It seems like McDaniels has decided to leave his future up in the air instead of taking a guaranteed job.

    Was just thinking about that

I just don't get it. Brady will be gone soon enough. They won't be the NE that he's used to. Why not take a shot to be a HC without living in Belichick's shadow? We have just as much offensive talent, outside of the TE position.

I did not see this coming. It is career suicide for him. NE or bust.

Forget Irsay and Ballard, think about all the other coaches he hung out to dry, you think the Colts are the only fanbase unhappy with him, I don't think so.

Exactly. What happens to the assistants that effectively handed in their resignations? How many of those teams have already looked for their replacements?

Obviously, Kraft and company have promised him the NE job. Good for him, I guess, because it's the only job available to him after this.
