While here at the draft I asked some question people may be interested to hear...
I asked Merril Hodge about Trent Richardson and he said that it is extremely difficult to go from one system to another mid season. He said he was slow hitting the holes because he was thinking to much. He said the bad O-line play didnt help..He said he sees big things this year for Trent..he said stay the course Colts fans..
I also asked for a number % wise to the likley hood that the draft moves..head of events for the NFL said 90% to leave..I asked if it was a squeeze to Radio City because the contract is up this year. He said no. It is more of an issue that they have outgrown Radio City. .it sounds like Chicago is in the lead with LA close behind.
As I find out other interesting tidbits I will pass them along..
I hope Hodge is right about TRich. I was pretty high on the trade when it happened and was sorely disappointed in him as many fans were.

These are some big dudes. Never heard of any of them so had to look them up. Saw that the NFL got Ulrick John's name backwards (John Ulrick). I hope at least one of these guys turns out to be a long term solution for protecting Luck. GO COLTS!

Loved the video.
"half a heart beat" ... you gotta be kidding me Merrill! Anybody that is "NFL ready" and "the next Peyton Manning" will cause you to stop and seriously think about drafting this person. If you took half a heartbeat and decided that RGIII should have been the number 1 pick over Andrew Luck then you are a fool.
Now I don't honestly think that Merrill Hoge is a fool. This was more of sports media continuing to create controversy, chaos and anything else that will keep people tuning in.
The Colts chose correctly and so far it has proven out. GO COLTS!

I'm not sure this has been discussed yet, but it is something I have wondered about for months now...
When Richardson was traded to us, could it have triggered a mental block for him?
Think about it. Here is a guy who was selected #3 overall. I'm sure Mike Holmgren and the Browns and Pat Shurmur all told him he was the future of the franchise. That he was going to be the focus of the offense and the savior of the team,
He had a solid rookie season.
And then one day, the team who had picked him to help them finally make up for years of shortcommings, sends him away. Without notice. Without warning. He went from being "THE man" to "another guy".
How much would that have hurt his psyche? How much would that affect his confidence?
I think it had some to do with it. It was culture shock. It was a drastic change in his career.
I personally think it was all a little too much for him to properly handle mentally in the midst of the grind of the season. I think it hurt his confidence, I think it hurt his pride, and I think the situation was just rather rough on him. And I even think Reggie Wayne hinted that it had been when he said that Trent was relieved to not have the weight of being the starting back on him after Brown took the role.
I think it was all a little too much a little too fast for him, and now that he will have the time to settle in and do a reset, that he will handle the duty better next season,
He was thrown to the wolves here. No doubt about it. He was thrown in behind a terrible at best run blocking line. Many times there were guys already in the backfield as he took a handoff.
Is he gonna make the first we sent for him pay off?
Eh, we'll see. But next season should certainly be better from him I think.
He'll be better next season but probably not number 1 pick better. I am hoping that coaching will improve his game. Donald Brown wasn't a stud over night. There are many on here including me that thought Brown should not have been our number 1 pick. I'm glad we had him this year. GO COLTS!

I know what you mean, but I don't agree that defense wins championships anymore. Offense wins games, defense just have to survive. The way the rules are set up the defenses have little chance to be dominant.
Simply put, if you can run the ball you can do whatever you want on offense. Easily said, hard to do. But you have to have a line, which we clearly don't.
I probably put it a little too strong ... still hurting from last night. Defenses have to be "pretty good". The high powered offenses will kill poor defenses. We have to get better on defense though.

That was our philosophy, but we never did it in practice. A lot of people thought it was a bad philosophy in today's NFL. Don't waste Andrew, use his talents, etc.
The Patriots just used that exact philosophy the way it was meant to be executed.
We may be able to run the ball with a decent center and Thomas back. I don't know how we can fix that D given the cap space and draft picks left.
Defense wins championships ... always has ... always will!
Colts fans have been asking for a run defense forever and we are not there yet. I believe that we need to fix the defense before all else. Our offense will be fine with Andrew Luck. He needs experience to be able to win playoff games with very little receiving help. The running game has rarely every been solid that I can recall and the Colts have been very good to great without it.
Last night was so disappointing. It looked like New England could have thrown the ball more but chose to run it down our throats. 3rd year is the charm and I hate to say it but I will ... wait until next year. GO COLTS!

Don't want to choose between the two but if I did ... it would be Freeney because of that spin move.

I just hope Peyton comes away from L.O.S feeling like the Colts fans appreciate his contributions to their football team and are grateful for his service.
I doubt a single fan thought Irsay was taking a shot at Manning, nor would they want him to, and this whole debacle has been generated by the media. I want to believe that he can see this.
We all love Peyton and I just hope he knows it.
I beg to differ ... I thought it was a big shot a Peyton when I heard it this morning for the first time. After some time and listening to Irsay's comments this afternoon, I think the shot was small (more of a tweak) but it was still a shot. It was poor timing and just adds to a media circus that was bound to happen. I have already seen many comments about those of us that think it was a shot ... delusional, biased, etc. It is possible to come away from reading the comments and believe it was a shot at Peyton. I did ... and I am not delusional. I am biased because I rooted for Peyton for a long time but this doesn't mean I cannot reasonably come to the conclusion that Jim Irsay threw a shot a Peyton Manning.

I am strongly considering him as the Colts future #1 WR! He's certainly proven since his rookie year that he can work as the #2 and in the slot! I hope im not the only one who thinks Hilton would be a great #1 WR. Besides the only other current WR we have I could see being future #1s are Brazil and Rogers and both of those are toss ups due to suspensions and off the field troubles.
My opinion, Hilton might make a #1 receiver but not a great #1 receiver. Rogers is the only other reciever on the team that I think could be great and I have my doubts about him. Chances are our Reggie replacement is still to be drafted. Here's hoping Reggie sticks around a few more years.

Brought back some memories. Da'rick handles the ball well in traffic and after contact. He didn't fumble the ball after getting multiple hits and even dragged some defenders for extra yards. If we can get this out of him ....
-
As a Tennessee fan, I have some serious heart burn about Da'rick Rogers so may not be the best qualified to discuss him. He's big and physical and has obvious talent which I wish Tennessee had for 4 years. He took plays off and some analyst say that this was only when he wasn't the primary target. Regardless, he took plays off. His off field incidents and subsequent pouting turned the fans off.
If the Colts can motivate Rogers to bring his talent to the field, especially across the middle, we may have something. Here's hoping Da'rick turns out to be a good pickup for the Colts.

I don't have a problem with "doing it differently" because "not having a defense" and not having some semblance of a running game produced only 1 Super Bowl ring during the Manning era. Getting Trent Richardson may get us a balanced offense that was severely lacking for years. Hopefully, you don't think getting Richardson was knee jerky. I call it Christmas. Now we need to work on the offense line and the defense.
I'm not ready to give up on Grigson yet. GO COLTS

Maybe the curse was lifted ... Trent Richardson
-
the people complaining need to stop. we got a sure fire rb in trent r. and he finally gives the colts that dynamic attack they have been missing since edgerrin james left.
Just told my wife the exact same thing. I prefaced it with 1st round bust Donald Brown. GO COLTS
-
Consider it this way:
Richardson was the 3rd overall pick and certainly a top 5 player in that draft. Our first round pick in 2014 is likely to be after 20. So we went from 20 to get a top 5 player. If he can stay healthy, this will be an incredible deal
AND he will most certainly replace Donald Brown who was a 1st round bust.
-
It's an okay move, that could turn up gold or bust.
On a side note Trent is killing my fantasy team..I hope he doesn't kill our team.
Mine too. I chalked it up to being on the Cleveland Browns. Let's hope he gets more stats with the Colts.

Love the article ... glad you found it. As Superman said above, the Luck takeover took place on draft day. Any Colts fans that weren't sure of this late into the season last year, knew it after the Detroit game. This year the rest of the NFL will know it. GO COLTS!
-
And of course airhead supreme: Skip Bayless asks if Colts fans regret letting Manning go. #facepalm ugh
I just turn the channel when I see Skip Bayless!
-
I'll take all 7 to Reggie Wayne if you please. My fantasy football team needs a little help this year.
Luck should have a solid game against Oakland and if 7 TDs are in the cards ... fine but I wouldn't count on it. I want to see a running game develop and see Luck marching the Colts downfield on long drives.
-
Certainly better then the broncos?? That's a bold statement
I missed that on the first read. Bold indeed! I am sure that the statement was based in part on beating the Broncos in the 3rd game of the season last year. By the time Houston plays the Broncos this season, they will probably have "just" lost the division to the Colts. "Certainly" is not a word I would have used.
-
I chose 1 because I think the Colts management will do a better job putting a complete team around Luck and Luck appears entirely capable of being as great as Peyton Manning. I would predict the super bowl win in year 4 or 5 with no repeat which is extremely hard to do.
I have said that we need to do something about our defense for years and still think this is the case. However, we are not going anywhere if Luck is on his backside as much as he was in 2012. We have to get an O-line together quickly (this year) and sort out the defense over the next few years. GO COLTS!

There's a strength of schedules topic on here somewhere. J.J. Watt alone makes our SOS go up! GO COLTS
-
This guy is more polished, and more physical than Jonathan Banks. Better pick to me!
Some of the things he does remind me of Vontae. May even be better in man coverage than Davis.
First tape that I have seen of Rhodes also. He gets his head around well and lays out to get a hand on the ball. NFL receivers will not be so easy to detect when the ball is getting close but good coaching will help this. I like what I see.
-
The Texans are NOT pretenders (J.J. Watt, Arian Foster, Andre Johnson) but they are not as good as everyone thought. I sure hope the Colts don't have that attitude or we will be the ones losing. Can the Colts beat Houston ... sure but not easily. We need to be playing our best games entering the playoffs and last week was not a good start. GO COLTS!
lets face it, we will be in the same positon with Luck as we were with Manning

... need a vision for our defense ... This is an important statement! It appears that our defensive vision has always been let the QB get a lead and then send the DE's to sack the QB. It worked in the regular season with Peyton Manning but failed miserably in post-season. We are repeating this with Andrew Luck. What happens when we can't get a lead? What happens when the other team has a pretty darn good defense? What happens when your QB is having a bad day in the post season. Defense wins championships! Our defensive vision needs to include this. GO COLTS!
